Lent

AT F B C J C

“The Songs of Spring, God with Us,” is our theme for Lent 2022. We will focus on lectionary passages from the Psalms and other texts to invite us to worship more affectively and poetically. The book of Psalms is at the heart of the poetry section of the Bible. We will focus on the affective, feeling-based appreciation of God to help us draw closer to God. Each Sunday, worship will be centered on a psalm. To supplement the poetry of the psalm, a modern poem or other literary form of expression may be matched in the sermon in our exploration of the poetry of worship.

LENT DAILY DEVOTIONS / We will publish our Lenten devotions Monday through Saturday via e-mail beginning today, Ash Wednesday, through Easter Sunday. We hope the words and images provided allow you to pause, focus and draw closer to God. The psalms, scriptures, original words, images and found works have been put together to facilitate this affective Lenten journey. If you don’t receive these but wish to, email mary@fbcjc.org.

SERVE GENEROUSLY WHEN MISSION JC RETURNS IN 2022! Mission JC will return on April 24, 2022. Help us become a “church without walls” that day as we cancel traditional Sunday church services and go out to serve our community through various community projects the morning of April 24. This unique worship/mission opportunity, founded in 2013, has been missing for the past two years due to COVID. In 2019, we drew over 800 participants from ten local churches. And now, we’re back! So, mark your calendars and plan to join this ecumenical event on Sunday, April 24. Registration will open April 1. Janet Wear-Enloe and Holly Schroer are coordinating the 2022 Mission JC and will be looking for volunteers of all ages and abilities for a variety of projects and the opportunity to minister to our neighbors. More information about participation and volunteer sign up will be coming your way soon.

W E D N E S DAY N I G H T S I N L E N T TO THE CROSS Adult Small Group: Led by Noel Blythe 5:45-7:00 pm, Room 326 The last 24 hours of Jesus ministry here on earth were eventful to say the least. So much happens in his journey to the cross that sometimes we lose track of many of the little things. We get into a hurry to get to the “big event”—the crucifixion—and we miss the significance of so many of these seemingly chance encounters and coincidental happenings along the way. Join us for this five-week study as we journey that last day with Jesus, guided by Dr. Christopher Wright in his book, “To The Cross.” Begins March 9 and ends April 6

Melissa Hatfield to the work of the Gospel Ministry. Her ordination service is planned for Sunday, April 3, at 6 pm in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church. L E A D PA S T O R S E A R C H S U R V E Y The pastor search survey is now available for you to complete at fbcjc.org/transition. The responses to this survey are anonymous and vital to the work of the Pastor Search Committee. Your responses to the survey questions will aid the Pastor Search Committee in creating a church profile that describes FBC to potential candidates and a candidate profile for the committee to use when evaluating applicants. Surveys are available now, and all responses must be submitted by March 21, 2022. You can use your phone, tablet, laptop, or computer to fill out the survey. Completing it online allows us to compile the data most efficiently, but if you cannot access this technology or require assistance with completing the survey, we can make special arrangements for you. If you need assistance filling out the survey or require a paper copy to complete, please contact Mary Huhn, Administrative Assistant, at 573.634.3603 or mary@fbcjc.org. Your input is important. We ask that each and every person who considers FBC their church home complete this anonymous survey so the committee can seek and find a senior pastor who best meets the needs and expectations of our congregation. Thank you. The Pastor Search Committee Sondra Allen, Cari Collin (Chair), Margaret Craighead, Lory Feeler, Terry Heiman, Gary Hemphill, Glenna Honich, Todd Pridemore, and Rand Swanigan
