KenyaMissionTrip
June begins the hectic travel season for so many of us. Family vacations, traveling sports teams, summer camps, missions trips, and more Summer is a season of memories and adventures! I'm a big fan of traveling, often reflecting on Mark Twain's wise words, "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one ' s lifetime" So, get out of those corners through travel, books, or conversations with those who have experience in corners other than your own.
When you ' re in town, we hope to see you on Sundays. When you are on the road, we hope you'll watch online or listen to our podcast to help you stay connected with God and us.
I'll also be traveling a lot in June, with a trip to Italy with my newly graduated nephew and Kenya with our church mission team. In my absence, we are grateful to welcome back our Rev. Todd Pridemore to preach on June 18, 25, and July 2 Todd and I will preach a summer series titled "Asking for a Friend" Each Sunday in June and July, we'll discuss a stand-alone question about faith that you or " a friend" might be asking
There are many ways to stay connected and in community this summer besides Sunday morning worship and Bible Study classes We look forward to seeing you between summer adventures.

Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans. That familiar saying rings true for the Missions Leadership Team (MLT) as we seek to respond to the need for more local, widely accessible mission opportunities, as revealed in our recent mission survey. As MLT members pondered the next steps, a new mission opportunity appeared on our doorstep, specifically, in the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday nights.
Meanwhile, our established missions continue at First Baptist Mission JC, under the leadership of Holly Schroer and Janet Wear-Enloe, attracted 428 volunteers from about a dozen local churches who worked on 48 different projects in the community on April 30.
FBCJC’s partnership with South Elementary School, led by Linda Wiseman, has been selected to receive the Outstanding Partnership Award for the 2022-2023 school year! The Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce presents this award You will be hearing more about the recognition and opportunities to become involved with the students and teachers at South School.
Six others will join Pastor Melissa and Rand Swanigan on a ten-day trip to the Well orphanage in Kenya from June 23 – July 3 Interim youth leader Mark Leesman and a corps of experienced youth leaders will hit the road with 54 youth and adults for a mission trip to Washington, D.C., in early July. The Friendship Singers for adults 60+, led by Interim Pastor of Worship, Jeanie McGowan, will head to Nashville October 1620 for their annual mission trip.
Details are still being finalized for a work mission this fall in partnership with a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity at the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation in South Dakota The weeklong mission typically involves small onstruction and repair ojects. Anyone interested in articipating can contact yndi Tandy at 573-690-4851 Marlene Medin at 573-61912.
dditional missions for the oming years are also being ored with Native People in ahoma and in southern souri, historically ranking ong the poorest in the on sions go on – some iculously planned, others a e more spontaneous. These exciting times at FBCJC!
For the past few months, our weekly church supper has been blessed with an increasing number of unhoused persons, as many as two dozen on some Wednesdays A few members already on hand for other Wednesday night events and activities have taken the opportunity to break bread with the newcomers. Chef Micha and his team will prepa scaled-back meals for churc members and communi friends on Wednesday nigh throughout the summer. All this means additional cos and the MLT is considering ho to accommod trend continue Chef Michael staffed during months, so opportunity fo participate in local mission summer.
