FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH J E F F E R S O N C I T Y, M O

With the arrival of summer comes a busy season with vacations, weekends at the lake, and traveling sports teams. We imagine travel this summer will be more active than usual after a long year of staying home due to Covid. And we give thanks for this! As we look back on the past year, we can find plenty to grieve and mourn. But, there are also glimpses of good and opportunities for growth. Perhaps we savor time with family more than ever before, embracing tighter and longer than in the past. Maybe we are saying “no” more to protect the margin we’ve come to appreciate in the slower season of quarantine. Perhaps we have a greater awareness and gratitude for the essential workers we often take for granted. At FBC JC, one of the opportunities for us this season was the push to move our services online. Immediately after

Covid closed doors in March 2020, we moved to prerecorded services, premiering them Sunday mornings online. We did not miss a single Sunday, thanks to fantastic servant volunteers like Ken Satterfield. And, later this month, after our transition to fiber internet is complete, we will move from prerecorded services to live streaming both services! What an exciting new chapter in our story. Wherever you and your family happen to be on Sundays this summer, we hope you will continue to engage in worship with us via Facebook and Youtube as our guest preachers (listed to the right) proclaim God’s word to us. For this growth opportunity from this challenging season, we give thanks! With Christ’s hope and love,

Pastors Melissa & Rod

G I V I N G OP T ION S COVID PROTOCOL UPDATES Beginning May 23, we no longer require masks in the building. We encourage those who are not vaccinated and those who feel more comfortable wearing masks to continue to do so. While we are not entirely free from the effects and risk of Covid, we have determined with guidance that these adjustments are safe. The following are the steps we will continue to do to keep you and your neighbors safe until time to reevaluate in the near future: 1. Maintain distancing of 3 ft or more between you and others not in your family. 2. Wash your hands. 3. If you are sick or at-risk and not vaccinated, please stay home and join us for online services.

T RA N S I T I O N U P DAT ES JUNE 2021 TRANSITION COMMITTEE // The Transition Committee spent April finalizing an interim pastor job description based on our informal assessment of our church’s current needs. Additionally, we created a series of interview questions to guide us in meeting with potential interim candidates. Currently, the committee is evaluating profiles of prospects who have indicated an interest in serving our congregation as interim. Our next step would be to select those who seem to be a “good fit” for an interview. Representatives of our committee recently met with the Pastor’s Search Committee to update them on our progress. Please continue to pray for our committee as we seek God’s will in filling the interim pastor’s position. (Committee Members: Sharon Nelson, Chair; Susan Bell, Mandee Carney, Gary Collins, Travis Ford, Stephen Mathis) PASTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE // The following members were approved at the April 18 Quarterly Business Meeting to serve on the Pastor Search Committee: Sondra Allen, Cari Collins. Margaret Craighead, Lory Feeler, Terry Heiman, Gary Hemphill, Glenna Honich, Todd Pridemore, Rand Swanigan. Cari Collins was approved as the chair of the Pastor Search Committee at the May 23 Special Called Business Meeting.
