One of my biggest thrills related to our recent Mission JC occurred very first thing on that Sunday morning, before we even sca ered to do projects. It happened at the gathering for fellowship and worship inside the Capital Mall. A sixth‐grader walked up to me, handed me her offering envelope and said, “Here’s my the for this week, since we aren’t mee ng for worship services at the church today.” Wow! What a mature, unselfish act from someone who is showing us how to remain faithful.

Through this young lady’s gi , I began to think about the marks of a healthy congrega on: 1. A healthy New Testament church is able to trust God to provide when we step out in obedient faith (we actually had a really good offering on Mission JC Sunday, without passing the plates). 2. A healthy New Testament church is able to do more than one thing at a me (we can carry on exis ng ministries even as we launch out crea vely, implemen ng our Se ng Sail vision). Bill Hybels once said that the most difficult me in a strategic vision is not at the beginning or near the end, but in the middle, where the messy details bog us down. With the Spirit’s help, however, we keep moving. Several work groups are being formed and have made a start. A Se ng Sail report was made at our last business mee ng and you can read updates on page 6 of this publica on. 3. A healthy New Testament church is able to pray, worship, love, give, witness, serve and make disciples—not because those ac vi es are programs, but because they are our way of life.
