While we are not there yet, we look forward to welcoming an intentional interim at First Baptist Church in the near future! This may leave you wondering, What exactly is an intentional interim? We’re glad you asked! An intentional interim has two primary purposes for the time they serve a local congregation, First, he or she provides pastoral leadership during the transition between pastors. An interim collaborates with the ministerial staff in preparation and leadership of congregational worship each week. He or she will also provide pastoral care to the congregation. An intentional interim also engages the congregation in preparing for the next pastorate at FBC and will equip our Pastoral Search Committee with the
knowledge and vision necessary to find the pastor who matches God’s plan for our congregation and mission. These are exciting days as we continue to move forward in faith and obedience, trusting God with our todays and our tomorrows. Please continue to pray for our wonderful Transition Committee and Pastor Search Committee. We are grateful for their leadership and service during this significant time in our journey as a faith family. An update from these committees can be found on page 3. With Christ’s hope and love,

On Sunday, August 8, we will remember our late Lead Pastor, Doyle Sager, who passed on January 22, 2021, from cancer. There will be special presentations and reflections as we remember and give thanks for Doyle’s life and ministry, and as we remember and give thanks for the resurrection hope we have through Jesus Christ. After each service, Doyle’s family will be available in the sanctuary to receive guests.

TRANSITION UPDATES T R A N S I T I O N C O M M I T T E E U P DAT E // We’ve been in a season of transition for over a year now at FBC JC due to COVID and our Lead Pastor’s cancer diagnosis and passing. While it may seem slow at times to some, we are taking significant and intentional steps forward on an important and lengthy journey as we follow the leading of God’s Spirit. Thank you, FBC JC family, for your continued prayers for our Transition Committee and our Pastor Search Committee. The Transition Committee has done an excellent job recruiting preachers for Sundays throughout the summer. In addition, the Transition Committee is busy interviewing potential candidates to serve as our intentional interim minister. PA S TO R S E A R C H C O M M I T T E E U P DAT E // The 9 member Pastor Search Committee was elected by the church membership at a Special Business Meeting on Sunday, April 18, and began meeting on April 29. The committee is currently discerning what the pastor search process should be, assessing the needs of the church, coordinating efforts with the Transition Committee, and praying for God’s guidance and wisdom. The Pastor Search Committee looks forward to the appointment of an Intentional Interim Pastor who can assist with the pastor search process. R E N OVAT I O N S A N D R E O P E N I N G S In May, a water leak in a 4th floor bathroom caused significant damage to the library and hallway on the third floor, and the restrooms, choir rooms, and office suite on 4th floor. Our amazing maintenace team has been hard at work cleaning up, removing carpet and drywall, painting, and now laying new carpet after drywall was installed by a local company. In the months of July and August, they will work in the office suite to renovate each office with new carpet and paint - one office at a time. Thank you for your patience as we work in a bit of physical chaos for the next couple of months. We can’t wait for the finished reveal. Our library will be back open for business beginning Sunday, July 11, thanks to the hard work of Jan Steele, our Library and Media Specialist. You may visit on Sundays between 8 am and 12 pm. The library is located on the 3rd floor across from the Maintenance Office.
M I S S I O N O N T H E M OV E The Covid pandemic still interrupts the outreach of Diamond Willow Ministries to children of the Crow Creek Reservation in South Dakota, but First Baptist Church has found another way to express love and solidarity with the native American community there. A six-person crew from First Baptist will be in South Dakota from July 18-July 23 to work with the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Jeff Feeler, Dale Feeler, Tuck Feeler, Cooper Feeler, Bob Bell, and Ron Otto will join local volunteers in repairing existing homes under the guidance of Sister Charlie Palm, an 85-year old nun who started and manages Dacotah Tipis Habitat for Humanity. Team members will be paying most of their own expenses but are receiving some financial assistance from FBC’s missions budget and the Salt & Light Sunday School class that has donated money to cover the cost of food for the team. The vision of Habitat for Humanity is “a world where everyone has a decent place to live.” FBC’s Missions Leadership Team joins in that vision and looks forward to the not-too-distant future when the church can continue its fellowship with and ministry among the youth of the Dakota tribe on the Crow Creek Reservation. Special thanks to Cyndi Tandy who has served as FBC’s link to Diamond Willow Ministries and Dacotah Tipis Habitat for Humanity. Please pray for safe travel and a successful mission experience. The Missions Leadership Team also made additional allocations at their June meeting to local organizations and partners. $2,000 was given each to Samaritan Center, Salvation Army, River City Habitat for Humanity, and Building Community Bridges. $10,000 was given to Transformational Housing.
