A team of editors/leaders is in place to begin daily devotions to accompany each Sunday’s sermon (beginning this fall, and taking summer breaks). The search continues for a Communications Associate to assist with messaging, both inside our congregation and to the larger community. The Praise and Worship Task Force has already visited several churches in other parts of the state. A leader has been enlisted for the Spiritual Formation Leadership Team and the remaining team is being formed. The work moves forward in putting together a Missions Leadership Team. A detailed study has begun regarding our appropriate staff configuration, to align with our strategic vision. We have started work on fresh branding and an updated mission statement in light of Setting Sail. A leader has been enlisted to guide our guest services (with the help of our deacon body, we identified as an early priority the work of first impressions, engaging and involving new people). A study will begin soon to evaluate our church’s entire recreation ministry and its place in our strategic mission.

MISSION TRIP DONATIONS The following are needed items for our summer mission trips.
Reader Eyeglasses—This is for a medical mission trip to Moldova in September through The Baptist Home Foundation. Several church members are attending. The strength need is from 1.5 to 4.0, with the majority need in the 2.5 and 3.0 strengths. Please, no prescription glasses. (Needed by August 20)

SMALL FRY PRESCHOOL TO SHARE SPACE WITH FBC JC Small Fry Preschool is a fully licensed and insured, not-for-profit cooperative, established in 1970 to promote the social, emotional, and physical development of children, and to encourage intellectual growth through creative play in a healthy atmosphere. Small Fry is the only parent-owned cooperative preschool in Jefferson City; parent involvement is required for each family, as parents assist in the classroom each day and run the school’s board. In fall 2015, Small Fry contacted FBC to ask if they might use a room in our church for their preschool. The preschool has met at First Church of God on Southwest Boulevard for 15 years and was looking for a new facility. After months of careful thought and discussion among church staff, Administrative Committee, Children’s Team, and our preschool Bible teachers, we are moving forward with welcoming Small Fry to use space in our church. Small Fry will begin their school year (August 2018) in our building. Small Fry meets Monday through Friday from 9:00am-11:30am, and hosts approximately 15 children per day. Small Fry will compensate the church on a monthly basis for energy costs and for equipment wear and tear. Small Fry carries their own liability insurance and a certificate of insurance will be kept on file at the church office. Small Fry will use room 303 (a currently vacant room in our preschool area) in their preferred configuration and will store their classroom supplies in 303 as well. Small Fry is permitted to use 304 and 305 for art projects and classroom work, but will keep these rooms set for First Baptist use on Wednesday and Sunday. To review our detailed contract and room covenant, please contact Hannah Coe in the church office and she will provide a copy for you. The Setting Sail process further clarified our church’s desire to be “in and for” our Jefferson City community. We believe this use of our preschool space is a great expression of community engagement and our desire to be a blessing to the people of Jefferson City. We look forward to welcoming Small Fry into our building and are grateful our space can be used on a daily basis by our community’s children and families.
