Dear Church,

Twenty-five years It’s hard to believe that a quarter of a century has passed since I began serving as a pastor at First Baptist In January 2000, I was called as the Associate Pastor of Youth and other things (recreation, children, and finally, missions for most of those 23 years )

In February 2023, I was called as the Lead Pastor of this congregation. Reflecting on this milestone, my heart overflows with gratitude for the journey we have shared together thus far. Before I express my thanks, let me take a moment to describe something central to my life and ministry and the mission of this congregation: life-giving relationships

A life-giving relationship is one where love, grace, and encouragement are abundant, whether a relationship with God or others. These relationships breathe hope and purpose into our lives, lifting us when we are weary and celebrating with us when we rejoice. They are relationships that remind us we are never alone and that are lives are bound to one another.

As I reflect on these past 25 years, I am profoundly grateful for the lifegiving relationships we have built together. Your support, generosity, and love have been a constant source of encouragement to me Whether through a kind word, a shared memory, a tear of sadness or a moment of laughter, you have blessed my life in ways beyond measure

You have taught me about perseverance, humility, and the beauty of community You have reminded me, time and again, of the strength that comes from walking this journey together. Thank you for embracing me not only as your pastor but also as a fellow traveler on the journey.

As I look to the future, my hope remains steadfast that we will continue to lead people into lifegiving relationships with Christ and each other Let us lean into the mission God has given us, trusting the best is yet to come May we be a church where people encounter the transformative love of Jesus and experience the joy of being part of a community that truly cares.

SERVE GENEROUSLY

FEBRUARY COLLECTIONS TO BLESS BABIES IN OUR COMMUNITY

It’s all about babies (and their families) in February. First Baptist Church is hosting two separate drives for infant supplies. A “Baby Bottle Campaign” is among the ways that First Baptist Church supports the Pregnancy Help Center, an outreach providing a multitude of services, all free of charge and confidential. The Pregnancy Help Center offers pregnancy testing, ultrasound scanning, risks associated with abortion, a wide range of classes, and counseling with licensed professionals for both men and women. Since some potential clients lack transportation, a mobile unit brings pregnancy testing and ultrasound to surrounding communities.

During February, empty baby bottles will be available in the church lobby, which can be filled with donations to help provide the important services the Pregnancy Help Center provides.

OKLAHOMA MISSION TRIP

First Baptist Church will also be hosting a “Baby Wipe Drive” in February It benefits Common Ground which, in partnership with the Capital City Diaper Bank, helps to provide both diapers and wipes to families in need Common Ground keeps 4-5 packets (25 each) of each size diaper on hand as well as 6-8 packages of wipes They are able to re-stock through the Diaper Bank as needed Clients can get diapers once a month after filling out a form with their information

Common Ground reports back quarterly to the Diaper Bank how many families and children have been served Packages of wipes can be placed in the mission boxes near the door entrances at First Baptist Church or can be dropped off at Common Ground Community Building at 1015 East Atchison.

We are returning to Oklahoma from March 26 - 30 to serve alongside our partners at the All Tribes Baptist Church in Geary and the Watonga Indian Baptist Church in Watonga Projects TBD but will include some construction, landscaping/gardening, and relationship building

Registration is open at fbcjc org/mission-trips until February 18 A deposit of $50 is due at the time of registration There are limited spaces Cost: $175 shared room; $225 single room

Team Leaders: Ken Enloe and Melissa Hatfield
