[ December 3 ] Adult Christmas Musical 8:15 and 10:45AM Sanctuary

[ December 13 ]

Many years ago, a pastor told me that church members enjoy hearing updates about their pastor’s family. So here goes. Our oldest child, Tamara, and her husband Tim live in Liberty, MO, where she teaches music at St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School in KC and is minister of music at Chandler Baptist Church, Liberty. Tim enjoys his work at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. Their son, Campbell, is a high school senior, daughter Maryn is a freshman and son Quintin is in the 6th grade.

Our other daughter Kristen is completing her PhD work in counseling psychology at the University of Kansas. She will defend her dissertation this coming spring. Her doctoral research focuses on clergy burnout and selfcare.

Our son Joel and his wife Jeni live in Columbia, where Joel is co-owner, curator and artist in residence at the Sager-Braudis Art Gallery. Jeni has a very fulfilling job here in JC, at Kids First. They have three sons: Oliver, 5th grade, Finn, 1st grade and Sebastian, who is 2. Janet and I are blessed beyond measure. We want to thank you for all of your love and kindness toward us and wish you a Merry Christmas and a blessed, happy New Year. Grace,

Each Sunday in December, Lori Hodges, will park in the spot normally reserved for Pastor Doyle. The amount she paid went toward the youth mission trip.

Whether you’ve been on a cruise ship or not, you may not realize how much work goes on below deck and in the corridors that run the length of the ship. Although you can’t always see the immense amount of work happening below, it is happening or you’d be stuck at sea. The same is true for Setting Sail. It may not look like much is happening but teams and staff have been working diligently to implement God’s dreams for our church based on Setting Sail. • • •

A part-time Communications Associate has been hired. (See page 3) Todd and Carolyn Pridemore have been enlisted to serve as Authentic Relationships Coordinators. The Lead Crew and staff are in final conversations with Firehouse Design Company regarding our new logo and brand. We plan to reveal that in January, 2018. Guest Services Coordinator, Chris Wallace, and her greeting team is doing fantastic work with our first impressions ministry. The Praise and Worship Task Force is bringing final recommendations to the Lead Crew and pastors. Spiritual Faith Formation Coordinator, James Preston, along with Hannah Coe, have built a strong Faith Formation team to help guide us in expanding faith formation for all ages. Personnel Committee will share recommendations on staff realignment and responsibilities based on Setting Sail at the December 13 business meeting.

Wednesday, December 13, 5:45pm, in the Fellowship Hall. Agenda items: · Proposed 2018 FBC budget · Proposed 2018 FCI budget · Proposed 2018 housing allowances · Enlistment Committee recommendations · New ministry descriptions for pastors in light of Setting Sail strategic plan.

This is the time of year when many people have the opportunity to make a special end-of-the-year gift to support our church’s ministries. We are grateful for your faithful gifts. To be credited to 2017 giving, contributions must be in the Church Office by 5:00pm Friday, December 29; postmarked by Saturday, December 30; or placed in the offering on Sunday, December 31.

“Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.” Psalm 71:9 (KJV) The goal of our homebound ministry to keep our members who are no longer able to attend services and activities regularly connected to their church family. We want them to know we have not forgotten them. If you know of a church member who is living in a residential facility or is still living in their own home but unable to attend church, please call the church office. You can further help our church live out Psalm 71:9 by becoming a monthly visitor for a homebound member. Let Rod Maples or Sharon Nelson know of your interest. You and those you visit will be truly blessed.

We will resume Friendship Singers’ rehearsals on Monday, February 5, 10:00am! We will rehearse in the choir room. All senior adults are invited to join in on this ministry!
