DEAR CHURCH, August is a month of transition. We savor the final days of summer with delight and desperation while readying ourselves for the beginning of another school year. Even if you and your family are no longer tied to a school calendar, all are impacted by this community rhythm. Community pools drain the water and store away the toys for another year. Store aisles burst with school supplies, luring some of us with yet another pen to add to our collection. Transitions seem constant these days rather than seasonal in our lives and church. I know it feels unsettling and chaotic. I also know transitions are when God does some of God’s best work in us as we remember God’s faithfulness to us in the past and trust God for our future.

Despite the earnest prayers of some students and teachers, returning to school is inevitable. But on the other side, incredible moments, experiences, and forever memories await. The same is true for our church. Psalm 85 reminds us God has been faithful to us in the past, is faithful to us in the present, and will continue to be faithful to us in the future. God is with us in this season of transition and ahead of us. As the calendar page turns and we enter a new yet familiar school-year rhythm, may we be faithful and trusting students of Jesus Christ, our Teacher. May we be alert to what the Spirit of God is inviting us to be and do in this unexpected but fruitful season. Shalom,

Pastor Melissa

UKRAINE

In 2013, we officially began a partnership through Future Leadership Foundation with a Ukrainian Church Planter in Eastern Ukraine. Right after our partnership began, conflict with Russia erupted in Eastern Ukraine. The mother church was burned. Our church planter relocated to the western part of Ukraine in L’viv, establishing a new church. Now, war has come again, and this church is welcoming hundreds of refugees fleeing war in the east while also fearing for their own lives. We recently received this message from the pastor of our partner church. “I beg you - don't give up! This is my fight. I'm deadly tired. There are more and more refugees in our church. It scares me. The horror of war breeds despair. Elderly people get strokes and heart attacks. Young people cut their veins - and constantly think about suicide. It happens near me and constantly! I preach every day, but there are more refugees than my words. We are under tremendous pressure. And I, like David, say to my soul: DON'T GIVE UP! I also ask you to DO NOT GIVE UP. Keep standing with Ukraine! Keep praying! Keep supporting! We can only win if we are together! We will only win if we keep the faith to the end! I thank God for you!” As of July 20, 2022, we’ve collected and dispersed $30,280 to three partner churches and organizations in Ukraine, including this church. These funds are used to care for refugees remaining or stuck in L’viv and Kyiv. They are providing bedding, food, first aid, toiletries, and immediate needs. Your prayers are needed. Your financial gifts are needed as well. 100% of your donation will be used to support both ministries at this time. Visit fbcjc.org/Ukraine to give online, mail a check to the church office, or place it in the offering boxes on Sundays. In addition, we are collecting cards and notes to send to encourage the church staff and volunteers and the refugees. You may drop off your unsealed cards and notes to the church office by August 17. Please include notes of encouragement, prayer, and scripture. Do not include comments critical of any government leaders or actions whether Russian, Ukrainian, or American. Let us encourage their spirits in these difficult days. "Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord." Psalm 31:24 Stan Farmer and family in the death of his aunt

hands on MISSIONS THE RETURN OF SUMMER MISSION TEAMS KENYA After two summers of limited travel due to COVID-19 concerns, we celebrate the return to mission immersion teams at home and around the globe. In late June, four participants (Kris Crawford, Christina Hudson, Blake Meredith, and Josh Pridemore) along with trip leaders, Melissa Hatfield and Rand Swanigan, traveled to the Well in Naivasha, Kenya, to serve with our partners, Oasis for Orphans (o4o.org). This was the first trip to Kenya for all four, the first international mission trip for three. The team spent five days at the Well, building relationships, constructing a large wooden bleacher for the new basketball court, doing soccer and basketball camps, and assisting the classrooms with reading and arts and crafts. Over the past two years, the children have grown tremendously in multiple ways. They are healthy and happy as the excellent staff tends to their holistic needs. Over the 12 years of our partnership, we’ve seen a lot of changes. After this trip, we believe the Well is thriving like never before. We give thanks for the partnership and the opportunity to introduce new people to global mission immersion experiences.

YOUTH MISSION TRIP In July, a team of 49 youth and adults traveled to Arlington, Texas, in partnership with Just Jump Ministries (justjumpministries. org). Throughout the week, the youth partnered with three organizations as we continued to educate our youth on the variety of ways in which people, churches, and organizations live the Gospel. Those organizations were Mission Arlington, Buckner International, and World Vision. Upon our return, the team presented a Homecoming Concert with songs and testimonies about the week. We encourage you to watch it on our Facebook Page at (https://fb.watch/emvpCR2Xhu/). The youth did a tremendous job sharing what they learned and how God grew them through this experience.

SOUTH DAKOTA Last summer, the only team we were able to send out was a team to work with Habitat for Humanity on the Crow Creek Reservation. This summer, we sent another group of 9 who were there when this report was submitted. We look forward to sharing more about their trip soon. You were a part of all these trips through your faithful prayers, giving, and investment in people. We thank you, and we look forward as we continue to living out our core value of sharing the love of Christ in word and action at home and around the world.
