Dear Church, One of my favorite quotes from the movie, You’ve Got Mail is when Joe writes his penpal and says, “Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.” I know I’m not alone in my love for new school supplies. This time of year, there are bouquets of new supplies greeting us in nearly every store, beckoning us with their siren call. There is something about new beginnings and fresh starts, whether a pristine package of colorful sharpies, turning a calendar page, or a new or mended relationship.

congregation, August brings a fresh start as we return from summer travels and look to reengage in new ways with our faith family. This August, we welcome much new. A new part-time Weekday Children’s Ministry Leader (pg 3), a potential Intentional Interim (pg 3), and a new chapter as God leads us to continue to build on the faithful legacy of this congregation and the sure foundation of Jesus Christ. If I could, I would send each of you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils to remind you we are writing this story together, and we are better because you are part of our story.
