Have you ever noticed how tough it is to transition from brainstorming to execution of a plan? There is an old saying, "The devil is in the details." But in our case, I believe "The Spirit of God is in the details." We have spent the better part of two years in a season of prayer, spiritual discernment, listening and dreaming together regarding the future which God has for FBC JC. Now, the dreams must morph into action. In fact, our imagery and choice of words are changing to reflect that shift. "Imagine If" now becomes "Setting Sail." Five sailing "crews" (teams) will be leading in the implementation of our five big dreams. Remember those? God‐centered worship, life‐changing faith, authentic relationships, community transformation and global partners. As we launch into uncharted waters, an overall Implementation Lead Crew is in place to enhance coordination and communication among all involved. The leaders for these crews were elected at our June 1 business meeting. I don't know how to say this any plainer: The real work is just beginning! And some of the hardest work will be emotional, as we deal with change. In fact, the approach of Appreciative Inquiry, which many of you have used in your workplaces, states that a visioning process is not effective unless it "requires a reworking of your structures and makes everyone a bit uncomfortable." Beginning late summer, our crews will be rereading material and then in the fall, preparing possible initiatives. To assist us in our thinking and doing, between now and February, 2017, I'll be preaching a series of sermons on each of the five dreams. These are exciting days at FBC JC. We need all hands on deck! Your prayers, attention, questions and participation will be vital. Let's set sail together. Grace,
