APRIL

The most common response I hear when I ask someone how they came to First Baptist Church is this: “So-and-so invited me.” Maybe this is your story. Research shows a personal invitation from a friend, family member, or coworker is the number one reason people begin attending a church. Nothing else comes close, not even free coffee in the lobby each Sunday.

It is easy to forget the power of an invitation, yet I imagine we have all been affected by a simple invitation, whether to church, an event, or to share a cup of coffee.

Inviting people to church can transform lives. The church is a place where people can connect with God, find a sense of community, and receive support during challenging times. When we invite others to join us in worship, we are offering them a chance to experience the love of God and

DEAR CHURCH, Pastor Mel

the joy of fellowship. Jesus was invitational, too. He invited people into fellowship with him so they could discover his love and forgiveness.

The best invitation we can offer is to invite someone into a relationship with Jesus and that journey may start by just inviting someone to join you for worship, for Mission JC, for a Wednesday night meal, or a round of pickleball on Wednesday nights.

Let’s give thanks for those whose invitations have made a difference in our lives and let us commit to being an invitational congregation. Easter invite cards are available at the Welcome desk in the lobby. Pick some up when you join us for worship and share them with those who, research shows, are waiting for an invitation.

MISSION JC IS BACK FOR ANOTHER DAY OF WORSHIP THROUGH SERVICE

Mission JC is a morning of worship through service in our community. It began in 2013 with one church - FBCJC. Today it includes eleven churches, over 500 volunteers and over 50 projects. Hundreds of people wearing red Mission JC T-shirts serve through activities such as yard work, cleaning at schools, picking up trash, planting trees, baking cookies, tying blankets, serving meals, writing notes of encouragement and much more!

Please mark your calendar to participate in Mission JC on Sunday, April 30. With two years of hiatus due to Covid, this is the ninth year for Mission JC. There are projects for all ages and we encourage families to serve together. We ask that individuals sign up rather than as classes or groups. This will provide individual email addresses for project leaders to communicate details about projects. It is also a great opportunity to get to know other church members through service. Registration for projects will be available on April 1. More details are available at missionjc.org.
