FI R ST BA PTIST CHURCH / JEF F ERSON C ITY, MO

UPCOMING At our recent quarterly business meeting, our church adopted new statements of purpose and direction: VISION: Compelled to be Christ’s love and hope. MISSION: We WELCOME warmly, GROW faithfully and SERVE generously, leading people into LIFE-GIVING relationships with Christ and each other. TAGLINE: See what Love can do. These words and phrases bubbled up from our congregational conversations when we launched our discernment/visioning process which has become known as Setting Sail. Before these statements were brought to the church for official adoption, various groups convened to carefully consider each word. The statements took shape over many months of thoughtful prayer and conversation.

I am particularly pleased with the brevity and clarity of the sentences. As we share our mission statement, we will always strive to use upper case letters for the key words (WELCOME, GROW, SERVE and LIFE-GIVING). But note how the adverbs (warmly, faithfully and generously) further describe us, capturing the essence of who we are and why we are. I’m curious. What words or phrases are you drawn to? What stands out and speaks to you? I’d love to hear from you. All during 2019, in dozens of large and small ways, we will attempt to live into our vision, mission and tagline. I pray that you will be engaged each step of the way. I love you all and am so grateful to be your pastor.

Grace, Doyle

A SP ECIAL WO R D FR O M O U R L E AD PASTO R Dear FBCJC family, As you know, the winter weather this year was brutal, causing the cancellation of Sunday services three times within eight weeks. Added to these “missed Sundays,” we will also be out of our routine on Sunday, April 28 for Mission JC as we worship through serving our community. In order to insure that your contributions to FBC continue regardless of Sundays away, why not consider automated electronic withdrawals, online or mobile giving? Call the church office if you need assistance with any of these options. Obviously, when you are unable to place your gift in the offering plate on Sunday, you may also mail your checks to the office or drop them off personally. We count on regular, systematic giving in order to live out our vision, “Compelled to be Christ’s love and hope.” Thank you for your faithfulness.
