FROM PASTOR ROSS I am excited that we are getting closer to recommending to the church our mission, discipleship strategy, vision, and goals. You may remember that during the spring we had a number of opportunities for input and reflection. I have spent the summer reflecting, synthesizing, and praying through this information. The ministerial staff and I met on the first Tuesday of September to reflect on some of the ideas developed for the mission, discipleship strategy, vision, and goals. I have also met with the deacons to review some of these “rough draft” ideas. As I write this, I’m preparing for the feedback times for Sunday night, September 27 and Wednesday night, September 30. As I receive feedback and sense clarity, we will have an opportunity this fall to vote on the mission, discipleship strategy, vision, and goals. I’ve enjoyed this process, and I look forward to what God is going to do in and through this time. Another exciting development is that the Relocation Committee is ready to make a recommendation for the architecture firm that will be tasked to develop our master plan. This is an exciting development. We will be sharing more about this, and have opportunities for Q-and-A when a vote will take place during October. Please continue to pray about this process. There is a lot that is taking place right now that will set our future direction as a church. This will mean this is a potential time for excitement and anxiety. The key now and in the future is to remember that ultimately this is Christ’s church, and He will lead us. We have the privilege and joy of walking by faith and seeing God do what only He can do as we trust Him. 4

A LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This has been a very hard week for me, so as I have been thinking about what to write, the Lord said to write about the power of prayer in today’s message. Bro. Ross has asked us to continually pray for wisdom for him as he pastors our church. On another prayer note…as some of you know we have two grandsons with Epilepsy. There have been four or five ER visits in the last month for them. This past Wednesday was the scariest when our sixteen year old had a grand mal seizure in the swimming pool, while the team was practicing. I had been watching him closely as he was moving rather slowly which is usually a sign, but by the time I got the few feet to where he was, he was in a full blown seizure. I screamed for the coach who grabbed him and pulled his head as far out of the water as possible until the guard got on the other side and they got him out of the pool. This was not an easy job, because he was still convulsing and he was slippery. It seemed like forever before he stopped convulsing, but in reality it was about three minutes after they got him out of the pool. I say all of this to tell you how much we have relied on prayer this last month. We went to Scott & White via ambulance and got him checked out. We got out of there around two and half hours later. Around ten that night he had another grand mal seizure, so this time he was taken by ambulance to Houston where his Epilepsy doctor is. He stayed in the hospital for two days because of his oxygen levels, but got home around dinner time on Friday afternoon, and worked all day at his job on Saturday. This quick recovery is the result of so many of you praying for Tyler and Matthew constantly. Somedays I do not know what or how to pray, but I know God hears my heart. We may not realize how important our prayers are to someone, but let me tell you we see them working in our lives all because of all our Christian brothers and sisters in Christ have been lifting us up before the throne of God. We can never say thank you enough for each and every word uttered in our behalf. Do not be discouraged that you may not be able to participate in some of the church’s activities, because it is the prayers lifted up that make mission trips and activities a success. We can pray anywhere and everywhere no matter our health or abilities. Our next big thing you can help with is the mission trip to Colombia. Pray for safety and all who will be blessed by our team of volunteers while there. Then there is Operation Christmas Child coming up soon. Have you started collecting items yet? I’ve been collecting all year when I found good sales. There will be an announcement about packing day coming soon, so watch for that. I hope you are enjoying our somewhat cooler temperatures with fall coming in. Blessings, Reba Pair 9
STUDENT MINISTRY The massive traffic jams near my house are a good indicator that school is back in session! But…despite the crazy teen drivers racing through my neighborhood, the piercing sound of school bells, the smell of cafeteria food, and kids with tons of homework it all equals “routine”. It’s always nice to get back in the groove after a crazy summer. The Student Ministry had a Fajita Fiesta to kick-off our new Wednesday night All-In. I was thrilled to have nearly 60 students and 10 adults despite the fact that many of our students had school commitments that conflicted with All-In. After the Washington County Fair break and Homecoming break, the Student Ministry will be hosting a competition called “Life” with six teams headed up by the student leadership council. These teams will be receiving points for attendance, preparedness, and participation in All-In and the winning team will get an all-expense paid Lock In/Lock Out later in the year. See You At The Pole, an international day for student-led prayer in schools, was Wednesday, September 23, 2015. Many of our students, all around Washington County, were leading out in prayer at their school’s flagpole before school. This is an awesome opportunity to make a stand for Christ in their primary mission field. Please continue to pray for our students as they are often facing tough decisions while still finding their identity. Faith and Family Night at the Washington County Fair was a total blast! Flame and Matt Maher were both fantastic and it’s always so encouraging to join with our sister churches in the area for a common goal. We live in a great community so if you didn’t get to make it, be sure to plan on it next year. The Colombia Mission Trip is literally days away. I know you’ve had plenty of opportunities to support this mission trip so I just want to ask one thing – please PRAY! Pray as the Spirit leads you, but here are a few ideas to get you going: health of our travelers, safety and traveling mercy, the hearts of the orphans we will be ministering to, the hearts of people we come in contact with in street ministry, and the church we will be partnering with. Thank you so much for supporting the Student Ministry – I’m looking forward to a great year! Bro. Chad

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY “14 ‘You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 School has re-started, football and volleyball are in full swing and cooler weather is coming our way. Fall is near. This year our church will be reaching out to the community to share God’s love on October 31 in a new way. We will seek to be shining lights throughout our community. We will do this by encouraging church members to host fall parties in their front yard all over in our community. These parties will gather the members of our small groups together for fun and fellowship while being visible to potential passers by who might want to stop by for some candy. The church will provide the candy and a card to give. If you would like to make your home a city on a hill, call Alex and we can set you up to be a Light in the Night. His Servant & Yours, Bro. Alex
THANK YOU Thank you to Arlen Thielemann for faithfully co-hosting our Core Essential shows in the schools and to all the storytellers that assist us: Sandy Batt, Heather Kirby, Preston Smith & Nancy Fritz.

PRESCHOOL MINISTRIES SUNDAY MORNINGS IN OCTOBER BASIC TRUTH: GOD MADE ME. KEY QUESTION: HOW CAN YOU BE BRAVE? BOTTOM LINE: GOD CAN HELP ME BE BRAVE. MEMORY VERSE: “BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS. DO NOT BE AFRAID … FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD GOES WITH YOU.” DEUTERONOMY 31:6 NIV It’s Super Kid month – a favorite among our little ones and mine too. This month, we are going to be STRONG and COURAGEOUS because God is always with us. Each of our stories this month is about a person in the Bible who God helped to be brave. We start the month with Gideon who trusted that God knew everything and followed His directions going into battle with only torches, jars and trumpets. This is such a fun story to retell with the preschoolers yelling, “For the Lord and Gideon!” In week two, we tell a familiar story but will focus on a hero that doesn’t often get recognized, Miriam, Moses’s older sister. We’ve told the story of Moses and how God had a plan for him many times, but we’ve never really concentrated on the role Miriam played in the story. She was strong and courageous as she stood in the reeds watching over her brother and then walking up to the princess and offering the best solution of all. Talk about God putting her in the right place at the right time! Because Miriam was brave, her mother was able to care for her baby brother during his preschool years. Hezekiah is the brave man in week three. Hezekiah is able to lead his people and defend his city because he knows that God is the one true God and so very powerful. God sends an angel to defend the city! I cannot wait to have fun with this one. We end the month with Daniel and the Lions. Our kids love this story because there are lions. It’s a great story because Daniel did the right thing even when he knew it would cause a BIG problem for him. Daniel trusted God to be with him, and he was. Daniel was strong and courageous for sure! And, because he knew God was with him, he was able to be brave. So, we are getting ready! It’s time for the most super month ever! It’s Super Kids!
Stacey Thank you to everyone who supported our Preschool Ministry with donations for our Christmas in September this past month. Our kiddos raised $1,900.00 with your help. This money was sent with the Colombian mission team to purchase supplies to go into handmade toiletry bags that our Encore group made, as a blessing to over 100 young girls at the Para del Nina orphanage in Colombia. THANK YOU again. Happy Birthdays! Abigail Becerra 10-15-10 Wyatt Clark 10-23-13

FROM TROY’S HEART I was a fearful child. I was afraid of the dark, the boogie man, bumps in the night, of getting lost, of being away from my mom and grandmother and of anything new that might cause me to fail. Now that I am all grown up, all of those childish fears are gone aren’t they? Nope. Just last month, Kelley and I were in Chicago trying to get back to our hotel late at night with a GPS that had us all turned around due to a programming error (I was the programmer). We were off course and in a split second my childhood fear, feelings of being lost and separation from home, came rushing in. My heart raced, thoughts flashed and feelings that were over 45 years old, came to the surface in an instant. It was as if I were transported back in time to re-experience the fears I thought I had put to bed a long, long time ago. Instantaneously, I was a nervous 6 year old in the back seat of a car memorizing street signs so I could get home in case I was lost or left behind. Fear is a paralyzing emotion packed with a powerful, long-lasting punch that can come out of nowhere. What I experienced in Chicago reminded me of a few things: 1. I am not as big as I think I am. There is still a susceptible, scared little boy in me. Sometimes that is good. Sometimes not. 2. Many of us have a dark feeling from our childhood that shapes our present and future. Fear? Shame? Regret? Lonliness? Anger? Abuse? Abandonment? Self-doubt? 3. Jesus knows me, comforts me and wants to bring me home. I was reminded of how many times Jesus approached his friends with these words, “Do not be afraid!” 4. I am not home yet. One day. I love you, Troy 15
