A LETTER FROM PASTOR ROSS During this month, we will have the opportunity to hear preaching from two speakers on different Sunday mornings.

Associate Pastor Troy Sikes will be speaking on August 7th. I’m thankful for Troy and the gifts he brings to our church. It is always a blessing to hear him speak. On August 21st (the day before the first day of school), we will welcome Brenham native, Jon Peters, to come and speak. Jon was a record setting pitcher for the Brenham Cubs and was on the cover of Sports Illustrated on May 8, 1989 while still in high school. Jon is a graduate of Texas A&M. He has two children, Kyle and Jake. He works for EPIC Management Resources, LLC in Houston as a Business Development Manager and has begun a speaking ministry. Jon’s mom and step-dad are church members, Ruth and Glen Le Doux.

Jon is using his story to point people to Jesus.

I also want you to begin praying about an important process that will be happening this fall. Our Relocation Committee (David Baker (co-chair), Brandon Musser (co-chair), Heather Kirby, Robert Haydon, Stephen Puckett, and Arlen Thielemann) has worked hard during the summer. This fall, we will have opportunities to look, review, and provide feedback concerning a master plan and phase one construction. Hopefully, after we receive feedback, we will have an opportunity to bring a proposal for both a master plan and a phase one to vote. Ultimately, this is going to be a faith process. Please begin praying about how God will grow us during this process.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has been involved in the various ministries during the summer. As we conduct Vacation Bible School, camps, mission trips, etc., your service allows us to invest in people becoming followers of Jesus Christ and growing in their faith. It is such an encouragement to see everyone serve.

Thank you, as well, to everyone on our staff, especially Chad and Alex. Summer is the busy season for our youth and children’s ministries, and I appreciate all of the time and hard work they have given this summer.

ADULT MINISTRIES CONTINUES PIECE MAKERS Piece Makers is joining Encore VBS in August and will provide fabric kits, sewing machines and instruction during craft time August 1st and 2nd to make pillowcases for the Brenham State Supported Living Center. Piece Makers members are currently working on baby quilts, lap quilts, mission quilts and an entry in the Washington County Fair to be auctioned for the benefit of the church school in the spring. BIBLE STUDIES & MORE HOME TEAM CELEBRATION STORY Here’s the story of how the Widow’s & Single Ladies Home Team began.

In 2013 while traveling on a tour of the Amish back roads country I was looking out at the beautiful countryside and I felt the Spirit say to me that there was need for a support group for widows. I had become a widow prior to making this trip and I was still dealing with the grief of my sudden loss. I also knew of two other ladies that had become recent widows after their spouses became suddenly ill and passed. Of course, after the loss of a spouse your life completely changes and support of others walking in your shoes is very helpful. There were a couple of ladies from FBC on this same tour. One was sitting directly in front of me and the other lady was a few rows forward. I asked her to come sit with me and the other to turn around so I could discuss this idea with them. They both agreed that this group was definitely needed. We met with Troy, discussed a Bible study curriculum

and started our group. We had our first meeting February 3, 2014 with seven ladies present. The length of widowhood varied from two months to twenty-seven years. Before that session ended, we had eleven ladies attending. Jolene Koenig was gracious to open her home for our group time.

Each of us discovered there are bumps, detours and collisions that bring our joy to a screeching halt. It’s certainly not a lack of faith. It’s life on this planet. Where we are today is no accident. God is using the situation to shape us and prepare us for the place He wants to bring us to tomorrow. We must trust His plan even if we don’t understand it.

We are now preparing to begin our 7th session. We’ve grown together, cried, laughed, comforted and supported one another. If any of you reading this know of a widow that would benefit from this group, please tell them about our group.

August 3rd - A day trip to the Dunham Bible Museum at H.B.U. Lunch will be at Luby’s (dutch treat). Leaving at 9:00am and returning mid­-afternoon.

A LETTER FROM REBA Dear Friends, As I was preparing to write this, I had just returned home from a gathering in downtown Brenham to honor and support our law enforcement community, as well as the Dallas Police Department in the wake of last week’s assassination of five officers. This hits us close to home since we have several law enforcement officers in our family and one living with us right now as their home is having repairs from the May flood. I have seen the stress level rise as things continue to happen in communities across our nation. It may be easy to say God will take care of you, but it can be so hard to really and truly believe that. We like to have the control in our lives, but I don’t believe that is what God wants for us. He wants to lead and guide us every day, especially in troubled times. I have seen on the news for the last week a lot about the evil in our world, but then, I have also seen our nation lift our concerns up to God in these troubled times in our nation. It has been refreshing to see leaders step up and say let us pray for all of our officers and then do so. God wants us to have His peace every day. Sometimes just greeting someone with a smile will soften their heart if they are having a bad day. Every Christian should

always bring a positive attitude to the world. In John 16:33 Jesus tells us “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!

I have overcome the world.” We need to remember why we are here, and who we serve. There are many scriptures telling us to let Jesus handle things for us, we just need to let go and let Him do exactly that. Read Romans 12 and then set it as your goal and let’s go out and show our world, right here in Washington County, who our Redeemer is and what hope He brings to our world.

STUDENT MINISTRY It has been a full summer and it is coming to an end soon‌ At this very moment, it is mid-week during the Honduras Mission Trip. We are about to go to church and worship with our Honduran brothers and sisters in Christ. There is nothing like worshiping our Lord and Savior in two different tongues but, with one soul, mind, and heart‌ We have been blessed this week to share the Gospel in many homes, in several villages. We have been a part of planting seeds, and watering seeds that were planted by others, which is exciting. We have had the privilege of seeing two people, thus far, give their life to Christ for the first time. I leave you with some pictures of the week and look forward to sharing more, with the rest of the group, at a later date.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY “Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:4 (NASB)

Good Morning, “You have to look behind you every now and then because a green mamba may be chasing after you.” These words of wisdom are one of the few things that I remember from when I attended pre-teen camp as a kid. They were from a couple that has been missionaries in Africa. Due to this lapse in my memory, my team and I strive to make camp more memorable for the kids that go with us.

If you were to ask the kids who went this year or have gone in years past what they remember most, I imagine they will answer: “the zipline”, “the pool”, “the waterslide”, “the food”, “the trapeze”, or for the first time this year “the swing.” Some of them might say they enjoyed the band, but I would guess they would not know the name. Even less memorable for them would be the name of the camp pastor.

So, why do we still go to a “church” camp?

Why not just go to a sports camp or a

wilderness camp with no requirements for “church” stuff? Answer: We are building a foundation. When some one admires a building’s architecture, seldom do they compliment the foundation or admire the beauty of its stability. They speak about the elements that are most visible.

However, the building would not stand if it were not for the foundation. Church camp does not often serve as the line in the sand or the pivotal point of course change for a person’s life. However, it does frequently lay the foundation or sure it up for future construction. It is the later changes that people notice and compliment.

This year’s camp may not bring memories of profundity, but I pray that the future lives of those that went represent strong stalwarts of the faith. Parents and church, what are we doing to add to the foundations of these lives?

PRESCHOOL MINISTRIES

Wow, a new school year is starting up and as we have done in the past, we are beginning the year reviewing ALL THREE basic truths. Our preschoolers will hear how God made them, God loves them, and Jesus wants to be their best friend forever all month long.

This will be a great month full of exciting stories and fantastic activities as well as a really cool theme! We’re blasting off this month into a space Stacey odyssey.

Basic Truth: God made me. God loves me. Jesus wants to be my friend forever.

Key Question: Who loves you?

Bottom Line: God loves me.

Memory Verse: “Nothing can separate us from God’s love.” Romans 8:39 NIrV

I am so sad to say goodbye to our fun-loving kindergarteners (or should I say new 1st graders). It has been such a privilege to watch them grow up.

I am also so excited for our 3 year olds that get to move on up to their new preschool Sunday school class. They each get to venture into a whole new world. Thank you parents for allowing us to love on your children. Parents remember that August 21st is our promotion Sunday, where all our kids move on up to their next class.

I am so sad to have to say goodbye to one of our sweet preschool workers. Kourtney is leaving us to go start a new chapter in her life at LSU. She will be studying to be a Marine Biologist. We are so proud of her and will all miss her dearly. Our kiddos have fallen in love with this amazing young lady. We hope that she will come back to visit us each summer.

Please be in prayer for her and if you get a chance on August 7th (her last day with us) stop by and give her a BIG HUG! Love you Kourtney!

FBC SCHOOL & EEC School days are just around the corner! Our first day of class will be August 22nd. In the days to come, we will be preparing classrooms and hearts for our students. We are restructuring our parent teacher organization in order to build community among our families. We have recently promoted Megan Pritchard to the assistant EEC director.

She has been with FBCS for several years and will be an asset to the leadership team. Melissa Franke will be our part-time advancement assistant. She will be the point person for fundraising. She has several ideas for FBCS and has great organizational skills.

We are so fortunate to be able to partner with the church in this mission. Please pray for the staff as they prepare for the kids. Pray for the families and children we serve. We continue to strive to serve the Lord with all that with do!

FROM TROY’S HEART Entering the third month of the summer, August begins the transition between lazy summer days and the routine of school.

Over the next few weeks, parents will begin back-to-school planning. Clothes shopping, campus visits, and supplies will be gathered by busy families up until the first day of school.

Getting ready for a new school year requires preparation, but it also brings anticipation. As parents create their “to do” list, students begin to wonder what the new year will hold in store. New friends, new routines, new teams, new clubs, new teachers and new fears are all a part of a new school year. Whether you are a student or an adult, new things come your way from time to time.

When we approach the beginning of something new, we usually feel some excitement, but also tend to have reservations, worries, doubts and questions. It is only natural when we face the unknown.
