FROM PASTOR ROSS August will mark two important milestones in my life. First, I will graduate on August 7th from Dallas Baptist University with my Ph.D. in Leadership Studies (Ministry Concentration). The title of my dissertation is Revitalization in Seven Previously Declining, Established, Baptist General Convention of Texas-Related Churches. This has been a long journey for my family that began in the summer of 2008. My family and I are excited to be done! Second, August will mark two years since I was called and approved to be your pastor. As I think about the past two years and reflect on the future, a number of things come to mind (in no particular order): • I appreciate the emotional, financial, and spiritual support and care you show to my family, the church staff, and me. • I apologize for any ways I’ve disappointed or failed you as a pastor. I know that as I make decisions, fail to notice someone or something, etc., I’m disappointing people. I don’t like to do this, but I know it happens. I apologize. • Thank you to everyone who stayed during some of the most difficult days in the life of our church. It would have been easy to leave, but you stayed. I pray you will experience the joy and excitement of a revitalized church. • I’m excited about the shoots of renewal that are beginning to spring forth from within our church. They are only shoots right now, but I’m thankful for even the small amounts of renewal God is bringing to our church. I’m praying for revival and renewal in the life of our church. I also believe there is so much more God can and will do in our church to bring about spiritual and cultural renewal! • I hope we will continue to work on welcoming people. We need to be willing to ask ourselves questions: How can we do a better job of welcoming guests into the life of our church? How can we invite people into our lives? How can we connect people into small groups (Sunday schools and/or home groups)? How can we give up “our” seats in the sanctuary for guests? In other words, I want to encourage us to take up the challenge of becoming the warmest and most welcoming church in Washington County! • I enjoy spending time with you. I really mean this. I like when we gather together, and I get to spend time and talk with you. • I enjoy our administrative and ministerial staff. Each of us has our own unique gifts and personalities. There is healthy “laid-backness” to our staff that I appreciate and believe is important. • I’m praying for more opportunities for us to engage the community “outside the walls” of our church. I pray one of the ways we will become known in our county is by the way we serve. I could go on. The main thing I want you to know is that I’m thankful that I get to do life with you. Please pray for me. Pray for our staff. Pray for our church. Pray that we will see a fresh work of God in the days ahead! Thank you for allowing me to be your pastor. Ross 4

A LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Dear Friends, Today as I was preparing to write this column I began thinking about the ones we have lost from our group in the last few weeks. As I did a little research I found a book on my shelf about the great hymn writer Fanny Crosby. She wrote many hymns that we have grown up singing. I found one that I thought was fitting for remembering those we have lost the last few weeks. The name of the hymn is “Meet Me There”. It goes like this: Meet me there, meet me there, Where the tree of life is blooming, meet me there; When the storms of life are o’er, On the happy golden shore, Where the faithful part no more, meet me there. When the storms of life are o’er, meet me there; Where the night dissolves away into pure and perfect day, I am going home to stay------meet me there.” Fanny Crosby once said “that if at birth I had been able to make one petition, it would have been that I should be born blind? “ She was asked why and her reply was this: “Because when I get to heaven, the first face that should ever gladden my sight will be that of my Savior!” As we go out into our community, let us all be a light to everyone we meet wherever we go. Blessings, Reba Pair BIBLE VERSE OF THE MONTH They will see His face and His name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light or lamp, or sun for the Lord God will be their light and they will reign forever and ever. Revelation 22:4
THOUGHT OF THE MONTH “All the darkness will be past when I get home, I shall stand before Him; Gladly I’ll adore Him; Ever to be with Him when I get home.”

STUDENT MINISTRY Wow! What a summer! I put the pedal to the metal at the start of June and didn’t let off the throttle for six weeks. I started out by getting to be a part of a wonderful 30-person mission team to Honduras. We distributed food in the mountain villages, taught English in a village school, did a one-day VBS in four different villages and we zip-lined across a waterfall, explored behind the waterfall…and my favorite adventure of all - I got to share my love of my mighty Savior. I came home for a few days and then joined in my first ever Family VBS. Another three days after that I got to attend our Encore VBS. I love this event! I get so excited to see our senior adults worshiping, making crafts and fellowshipping around the table eating. After another three days, I was off to youth camp in Panama City Beach, Florida. It was a great time of bonding and growing for our students, as well as, for me. We saw beautiful beaches, crystal clear water and enjoyed great worship and Bible teaching. Just one day later I was off to Camp Tejas where the Lord showed me that He is alive and moving mightily in our children. I had the privilege of leading worship for the campers, but it wasn’t long before the kids themselves were leading out in singing. Church, I wish you could have been there to hear those kiddos worshipping. Many times I backed away from the microphone to hear them singing at the top of their lungs to God. At Camp Tejas I also got to do something I haven’t done in many years - go FISHING! It took me a little while to get the hang of it again…tying the knots just right, baiting the hook, casting, and remembering not to pull the bait too soon. The one thing I had totally forgotten about was PATIENCE!!! You have to have patience while fishing and if one bait isn’t working you have to try something else. There’s waiting and not giving up. It was super hot and it was a lot of work, but I caught one of the biggest bass I have ever caught. I wonder sometimes if we miss out on what the Lord has for us because we get tired, too hot and uncomfortable or it just gets too hard and we quit. Church family I want to encourage you to be patient with what the Lord has placed on your heart to do for Him. Our reward is not an earthly one, but it’s eternal. I look forward to the day when I hear My Savior say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Keep fishing! Try a new bait and don’t quit. You never know what the next cast will bring! Love Y’all, Bro Chad 10
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY “Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” James 4:14 I know that August has just begun, but for most families summer is over, if not officially so. The camps and activities are finished. The heat is reaching its peak and fall sports are cranking up with practice. Football and volleyball are around the corner. Parents are looking forward to the return of a steadier schedule. I hope that you had a relaxing and fun-filled summer. Maybe you had the type of summer that could become a future movie narrated as one who grew wiser and broadened their horizons, as a result of the activities of the summer of 2015. Maybe your summer was the type that makes you welcome the fall so that June, July and August might be forgotten as they slip into the past. http://www.fbc-brenham.org/kids-klub-news/august-newsletter-2015/
THANK YOU Thank you to each person who played a part (coordinating, funding or volunteering) in the summer ministries of VBS, Camp Tejas and 2:4 The Mission

PRESCHOOL MINISTRIES SUNDAY MORNINGS IN AUGUST
BASIC TRUTH: KEY QUESTION: BOTTOM LINE: MEMORY VERSE:
GOD MADE ME. GOD LOVES ME. JESUS WANTS TO BE MY FRIEND FOREVER. WHO LOVES YOU? GOD LOVES ME. “I HAVE LOVED YOU WITH A LOVE THAT LASTS FOREVER.” JEREMIAH 31:3 NLV
It’s time to lift off into another new year! August is the month where we say good-bye to summer and say hello to a new school year. It is so EXCITING! Now don’t get me wrong I enjoy summertime but I also look forward to school starting. It’s a new and fresh start. That is why in August we are beginning our new year with a review of our three basic truths. What an incredible way to remind our teachers and parents alike what we’re trying to install in the hearts of our smallest church attenders. We will begin this month telling preschoolers that God made them. He made their hands, eyes, and feet. He made each and every part of them. The second week, we’ll explain that not only has He made them, but He has a plan for them. He has a special plan for everyone! Then, preschoolers will hear the story of the lost coin and how God loves them even more than the woman loved her coin. God loves them so much and will always seek them. Finally, they will hear how God loved them so much that He sent Jesus to be their friend forever. Jesus is an amazing friend and loves each and every one of us so much. We’ll finish the month with fun review games and activities. It’s going to be an amazing month with lots of awesome crafts, activities and storytelling.
Stacey THANK YOUS I am so sad to say goodbye to our fun loving kindergarteners (or should I say new 1st graders). It has been such a privilege to watch them grow up. I am also so excited for our 3 year olds that get to move on up to their new preschool Sunday school class. They each get to venture into a whole new world. Thank you parents for allowing us to love on your children. Parents remember that August 23rd is our promotion Sunday, where all our kids move on up to their next class.
Christmas in September – More information coming in soon!
Happy Birthday!

FROM TROY’S HEART As I write this article, we are busy packing up the church office in preparation for the relocation to our main building. Like any move, we are going through files, boxes, shelves and drawers of old things trying to determine what to keep and what to throw away. Sometimes the decision is easy: A file labeled, “All You Need to Know About the Internet”, from the 1990’s...throw away. Sometimes the decision is harder: A box of collected keepsakes given to me by various people throughout the years that I no longer display on my office shelves... hmmmm?? In our lives, we are also faced with the decisions of what to throw away and what to keep. Here is a quick list I made: Throw away negative thoughts. Philippians 4:8 “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable...think on these.” Keep your friends close. Prov. 17:17 “A friend loves at all times.” Throw away your sinful past. 2 Cor. 5:17 “If any man is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old is gone and the new has come.” Keep watch over your heart. Prov. 4:23 “Guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life.” Throw away past hurt, forgive. Matt. 6:12 “Forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Keep praying for people. James 5:16 “... pray for each other so that you may be healed.” Do me a favor. Sit down and go through the files and boxes of your life. Make a list of what you need to keep and what you need to throw away. Next time you see me, stop me and let’s go over your list. I would love to hear about your relocation! I love you, Troy
