hank you for considering FaySummer as an option for your camp experience. Whether it is for one week or multiple weeks, choosing a program that fits your child’s interests and needs is extremely important.
FaySummer offers dynamic, hands-on programs for children entering Pre-Kindergarten through ninth grade. Our caring counselors and expert teachers provide an engaging, nurturing, and safe atmosphere that encourages exploration, creativity, and lasting connections among children and adults. Our Day Camp, for children ages 3 to 15, features a busy day full of fun camp activities for campers grouped by age. Campers who want to pursue a hobby or interest in more depth can choose our weeklong Specialty Camps, which offer a half-day focus on one topic coupled with a half-day of traditional camp activities. Swim lessons take place each day for campers in both programs. We also offer Overnight Programs for campers ages 10-14. Finding a summer camp program that fits your family’s needs can be challenging, and I’m eager to introduce you to our staff and programs. OUR PROFESSIONAL STAFF The high quality of our summer program is built on the high quality of our counselors, teachers, specialists, unit leaders, and dorm parents. Our team is composed of Fay School’s faculty and staff, teachers from the local community, professionals in their fields, and college students with experience working with children. Our staff’s experience, professional skills, and passion for working with young people create a summer full of meaningful and enriching experiences.
FACILITIES FaySummer takes place on Fay School’s 66acre campus in Southborough, Massachusetts. Students have access to all of the school’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the pool, athletic fields, tennis courts, gyms, indoor rock climbing wall, outdoor adventure course, theater, visual arts center, and Innovation Lab with 3D printers, woodworking tools, and other supplies for “makers.”
SAFETY At FaySummer, safety is of primary importance. Our staff participates in extensive training in preparation for their work with campers. Low camper-to-staff ratios make quality supervision possible at all times. Swimming instructors are lifeguard certified, and camp staff are trained in first aid and CPR. FaySummer also has a nurse on staff each day.
Fostering good nutrition is a key component of our program. Campers eat meals together in Fay’s dining room; our kitchen staff prepares meals from scratch with high quality ingredients, and there is a major emphasis on local sourcing and environmental sustainability. Day campers have the option of purchasing a lunch each day for $5, or they can choose to bring a lunch from home. Lunches are posted each week and include an entrée, drink, access to the salad bar, and dessert. Please note: Fay’s Dining Room is a ‘peanut aware’ facility. If your child has severe allergies, it is recommended that he or she bring lunch from home.
FAMILY CONNECTIONS We want families to be part of our summer community too! Unit leaders are available every day to ensure effective home-camp communication, and they send home regular updates so parents and campers can discuss the day’s activities. For day camp families, we host two summer barbeques so families can meet the staff and enjoy the camp environment.
EXTENDED DAY FOR DAY CAMPERS Extended morning care is available from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. for an additional cost of $50 per week, and extended afternoon care is available from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. for an additional cost of $75 per week.
Program Highlights What makes FaySummer so special? Whether your child is participating in our day or overnight programs, here are just a few of the highlights that make our summer experiences so memorable. SWIMMING FaySummer's swim instruction program follows the Red Cross swim lesson guidelines. Day and overnight campers participate in a swim assessment upon beginning camp so instructors can place children in appropriate groups. Small instructional groups help children learn water safety and build swim skills in a safe, supervised, and positive setting. In addition to daily swim lessons, all campers may choose free swim.
SPORTS AND GAMES Ever played Gaga Ball? Ask any FaySummer camper, and he or she will tell you that the spirited gaga tournaments in our custom gaga court are a high point of the summer! Traditional camp games and teambuilding activities are a key part of every camp day, as well as sports such as soccer, baseball, flag football, and basketball. Fay campers get to enjoy the great outdoors on our beautiful rural New England campus, and they stay actively engaged in fun activities that help develop motor skills, collaborative skills, and team spirit.
OUTDOOR EDUCATION FaySummer’s outdoor education program is based on a “challenge by choice” philosophy, providing safe experiences that challenge campers to push personal limits, take reasonable risks, and build leadership and collaborative problem solving skills. Daily camp activities include natural science, the ropes course, leadership activities, archery, and outdoor skills. Our ropes courses, located in a wooded corner of campus near the Sudbury Reservoir, include high ropes and low ropes, supervised by trained educators who work on these courses year-round.
CALLING ALL “MAKERS” Campers have access to our brand-new Innovation Lab, a 3,000 square-foot space that includes everything you need for inventing and making, including 3D printers and laser cutters, as well as “lowtech” woodworking tools and art supplies. Campers have opportunities throughout the summer to design and build in this safe and supervised setting.

PERFORMING ARTS
Find your inner (or outer!) artist! Summer is a perfect time to express yourself in new ways, and our studios offer a range of media to explore, from watercolor and oils, to printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics.
Whether you’re a seasoned actor or just beginning to wonder if you’re meant for the spotlight, drama is a fun part of every camper’s schedule. Campers participate in improv games designed to build confidence and creativity, as well as short scripted performances.
WEEKEND TRIPS For participants in Overnight Programs, summer weekends at Fay are a terrific time to explore New England, including historic landmarks in Boston, Cape Cod beaches, and local amusements and attractions.

Please note that we plan each week carefully to ensure a healthy variety of experiences, particularly for campers who spend the whole summer with us. As a result, not all activities are offered every week to every age group.

Fay Day Camp for ages 3-15 Nine one-week sessions, June 22 – August 21, 2015

ay Day Camp features busy days full of fun camp activities and many opportunities to explore, discover, create, and connect. Campers are grouped by age, and daily schedules include swimming lessons along with an ever-changing mix of activities. While younger campers have a more structured schedule, older campers have increased privileges and more choice in their daily activities.
JUnior CamP ages 3-6 • Entering Pre-School - Kindergarten The Junior Campers are Fay Day Camp’s youngest campers. With small groups, low camper-tocounselor ratios, and a safe, structured environment, children have the opportunity to try new things while developing new friendships. This program is led by Fay’s Primary School teachers, who are experienced with young children and trained to meet their individual needs.
Junior Campers are grouped by age for their daily activities and have a consistent routine designed to build camper confidence in a comfortable environment. Daily activities include swim lessons, games, sports, drama, visual arts, and science as well as downtime after lunch to recharge. Junior campers must be toilet trained by the start of camp.
Day Camp
The Junior Camp program is designed to keep pace with the energy of young children and incorporates fun, enrichment-based activities that build gross- and fine-motor skills as well as social skills.
LOWER CAMP Ages 6-8 • Entering Grades One and Two
MIDDLE CAMP Ages 8-10 • Entering Grades Three and Four Our Lower and Middle Camp programs provide structure as well as variety for campers who are beginning to be more independent. Our nurturing and child-centered environment with low camper-to-counselor ratios offers support, encouragement, and guidance throughout the day as campers build friendships and develop new skills. Daily activities include swim lessons, sports, arts and crafts, drama, science, outdoor adventures, and team-building games and activities. Campers interested in pursuing an interest in more depth may also sign up for Specialty Camps, which offer a half-day focus on one topic coupled with a half-day of Day Camp programming. UPPER CAMP Ages 10-12 • Entering Grades Five and Six
SENIOR CAMP Ages 12-15 • Entering Grades Seven through Nine Our Upper and Senior Camp programs focus on developing camper independence and leadership through choice and the pursuit of individual interests. With the appropriate blend of structure and freedom, the Upper and Senior Camp programs are designed to complement the interests and developmental needs of our campers. Our experienced counselors are on hand to provide guidance and a supportive social environment as campers build friendships. Upper and Senior campers are eligible to sign up for Specialty Camps, which offer a half-day focus on one topic coupled with a half-day of Day Camp programming (see pages 10-17). Each afternoon, our Upper and Senior Campers team up with participants in our overnight programs, providing them the opportunity to make friends with young people from around the country and around the world.

We have partnered with outside organizations and our expert Fay faculty to offer a wide range of focused instruction in athletics, arts, and enrichment. Please note that Specialty Camps must have a minimum enrollment to run. If a program has low enrollment, campers will be able to transfer to another Specialty Camp or to Day Camp.
ARDUINO CIRCUIT BUILDING & PROGRAMMING

BASKETBALL
in partnership with Fay Athletics The Fay Athletics faculty is excited to offer a fun and rigorous basketball program for girls and boys. Morning clinics will focus on improving the fundamental skills of dribbling, passing, and shooting as well as individual and team offensive and defense strategy. All instruction will be hands-on, and coaches will work in small groups based on age and skill level. Each session is designed to guide players from individual skill training to team play, culminating with 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5 games and scrimmages.

CHESS Fay welcomes U.S. Chess Life Master Lou Mercuri for this camp, where students will learn the basic moves of chess and beyond—including checkmating patterns, opening strategies, tactics, famous games from the great players, and how to visualize at least a couple of moves ahead. Players will have the opportunity to play each other in a supervised setting with helpful tips and advice on how to improve, and they’ll also work in small teams to take on problemsolving challenges together.

Specialty Camps
Students will use SparkFun Inventor Kits to build 15 basic circuits and control them with an Arduino microcontroller. From simple flashing LEDs to controlling servo motors, students will use solderless breadboards and a variety of electronic components as they create their own inventions and learn how to modify existing computer code to get their circuits to perform in their own unique way. What will you create?
Specialty Camps CIRCUS ARTS The circus is coming to Fay! Jed the Jester brings over 20 years of performing and teaching to FaySummer’s unique Circus Arts Camp. In this weeklong session, campers will learn the secrets and skills of circus arts performers, including juggling, balancing, stilt walking, balloon animals, and basic magic. At the end of the week, we’ll welcome you to our Big Top with our own circus arts performance!

DREAM IT, DESIGN IT, DO IT If you can think it, you can make it! Flex your imaginative muscles and experience the engineering, art, and design processes as you develop creative confidence in Fay’s Innovation Lab. Campers will choose from a host of hands-on, open-ended projects and design challenges as they learn and create through experimentation and exploration of software, machinery, and art materials. Boost your skills and marvel at what you’ve made as we keep Fay’s vinyl cutter, sewing machine, laser cutter and 3D printer busy this summer!

GOLF CAMP
In partnership with Fay Athletics and GolfRite
FaySummer is excited to offer a one-week professional golf program that will teach campers the game of golf. Skip Guss, a PGA professional and current coach of the Women's Holy Cross team, will direct the afternoon program, which will focus on golf fundamentals. Campers will learn proper swing techniques, putting, chipping, driving and etiquette. Campers will go offsite to a driving range and will have a chance during the week to play a local course. This program is designed for campers who have a basic knowledge of the game and some playing experience. HORSEBACK RIDING In partnership with Century Mill Stables
Specialty Camps
Fay Horseback Riding Camp, which is hosted by Century Mill Stables, is a fun and interactive way to learn the basics of horsemanship and riding or to continue to develop a rider’s skills. Each day campers learn the basics of good horse care through grooming, general knowledge of equipment, parts of the horse, and colors and breeds. The riding portion of the lesson includes steering and control while riding at the walk and trot, correct rider body position, and some horseback games. Century Mill’s program is fully licensed with experienced instructors; the stable has an indoor ring and heated/air conditioned lounge area, so classes run in all weather. Their barn follows industry best practices for safety and horse care and has an excellent safety record, with healthy, well-rested, and happy horses and ponies for the campers to enjoy.

Specialty Camps IMPROV THEATER Theater improvisation is a great way to learn to think on your feet! Playing games, creating skits, and imagining new characters are all vehicles to learning how to think fast, listen, and be in the moment. Campers will work on their improv skills and learn some of the rules and structure behind theatrical improvisation.

This summer, the Fay Athletics faculty is delighted to offer a leveled lacrosse program for girls and boys. Clinics will focus on improving fundamental skills as well as developing an understanding of game concepts, offensive and defensive principles, and team play. All instruction will be hands-on, and coaches will work in small groups based on age and skill level. Beginners are welcome in both sessions Note: Boys must bring a lacrosse stick, gloves, shoulder pad, mouth guard, helmet, and arm pads. MUSICAL THEATER FaySummer is thrilled to offer two one-week experiences in musical theater! Each week, campers will work on pieces from a play and prepare a selection to be performed at the end of the week. Campers will work on ensemble pieces as well as solos, duets, and small-group songs, with lots of dancing, singing, and acting!

ROBOTICS Imagine building your own working robot! At FaySummer’s Robotics Camp, campers explore science and develop creative problem solving skills as they learn how to program robots that use a variety of sensors to respond to their environment and solve simple tasks using the NXT-G programming language and the LEGO® MindstormsTM NXT platform. By the end of the week, campers will create their own robot and program it to drive and interact independently with its environment.

SERVICE CAMP In keeping with Fay’s core value of Dedicated Service, FaySummer’s Service Camp provides students with the opportunity to make a difference. Through a variety of leadership and service activities, students will learn about hard work, compassion, and commitment to both the local and greater community. Campers will head off campus each day to work with local nonprofits, including farms, food pantries, and other service organizations.

FaySummer has partnered with Abbey Villa Soccer Club to offer a half-day of soccer instruction with a half-day of traditional camp activities. Soccer Camp is a great fit whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player: our program is designed to help players of all skill levels improve on the fundamentals of the game and enhance technical and tactical soccer skills. Campers will be divided into groups by age and ability.

WOOD SHOP Learn how to go from bare wood to completed project at this camp, which provides an introduction to basic woodworking. Campers take on projects specially designed to help them learn about creating and executing plans, choosing and cutting wood, assembling pieces, and finishing. With a focus on safety and making smart choices, campers take projects from concept to completion.

Specialty Camps KODÁLY VOCAL VACATION CHOIR CAMP in partnership with Kodály Music Institute Kodály Vocal Vacation Choir Camp is a two-week singing program for campers ages 6-15 offered in partnership with the Kodály Music Institute. Vocal Vacation Choir Camp is a cross-cultural summer music choral festival for youth to gather together in friendship and song. The program provides in-depth music experiences for young performers, including daily group music classes taught with the Kodály approach, choral rehearsals, and other arts-related activities. Music classes and chorus are taught by master Kodály music educators and are observed by teacher participants attending the Kodály Music Institute as part of their training. The Kodály approach is inspired by the Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály, who believed in teaching musical literacy through direct experience of the folk music of one’s own cultural heritage. This exciting program is for singers who have a strong interest and a solid proficiency in singing. The goal is complete immersion in the joy of making music.

We welcome students from all over the country—and all over the world—for a summer adventure that is guaranteed to be full of learning, growth, and fun. Whether you are interested in robotics, creative writing, learning English—or even if you want a traditional sleepaway camp experience—FaySummer has the program for you. BOARDING AT FAY Fay Overnight participants stay in double or triple rooms in an intimate, home-style setting with a common room and shared bathrooms. Teachers and counselors live in the dorms with the students, providing 24-hour supervision and care. All students enrolled in our overnight programs have access to Fay’s state-of-the-art facilities, including our 3,000 square-foot Innovation Lab, a dining room for family-style meals, swimming pool, athletic fields, tennis
OUR TEAM As an internationally recognized junior boarding school that is home to middle school students during the school year, we are experts in making the boarding experience a positive one for adolescents. Our team is composed of Fay School’s faculty and staff, teachers from the local community, professionals in their fields, and college students who have experience working with children. All are trained in their areas of expertise and well versed in helping young people make the transition to living away from home.
WEEKENDS With Fay located just 25 miles west of Boston, it’s easy to take advantage of everything the area has to offer, from the mountains of New Hampshire to Atlantic shoreline. Each weekend, students will head off campus for fun and educational day trips that showcase the best of New England.
Please note that any student who is a non-U.S. citizen, who has an international address, or who is not yet fluent in English, must register as an international Camper. Upon arrival at Fay, these students will be assessed for English proficiency and will then be assigned to either English immersion, academic adventures, or overnight Camp as requested based on their written and spoken English skills. Overnight Programs
When you sign up for Fay Overnight, you’ll choose one of our three options: Academic Adventures, Overnight Camp, or English Immersion. Each option offers a different day program, but for afternoons, evenings, and weekends, students from all the programs come together for activities, team building games, field trips, and social events. It’s a great way to expand horizons and meet students from all parts of the world.

Academic Adventures for students entering grades 5, 6, and 7 (ages 10-14) Two two-week sessions July 12-24 and July 26 – August 7, 2015 Now’s your chance to try something new: build a robot, write a poem, create your own business, solve a crime....the choice is yours! Academic Adventures is a two-week boarding and enrichment experience that is more than just a camp. It’s an opportunity for adolescents to make lasting friendships, build independence, and participate in learning that is hands-on, meaningful—and fun. THE PROGRAM After students register for Academic Adventures, they choose a “major”– Arts/Humanities or Science/Technology. Based on the major they choose, students are enrolled in two workshops that meet each weekday during the two-week session. Students may also choose one course from each major. These 60-80 minute classes are hands-on learning labs, where students are actively involved in fun projects that can lead to a deeper understanding of the subject area and conjure excitement about new ideas (see page 22 for course descriptions). Students also spend a part of each day in “electives” of their choice, which can include swimming, ropes courses, sports and games, arts and crafts, and drama and music.
WHO MAY REGISTER? Academic Adventures welcomes students who are entering fifth, sixth, or seventh grade (ages 10-14). Students must be prepared for a lively academic program filled with projects and discussions. Students in this program spend afternoons and evenings with students enrolled in FaySummer’s Overnight Camp and English Immersion programs (also for grades 5-7), and our diverse multicultural community offers an exciting way for students to learn about new languages, cultures, and traditions. Rising fifth graders also have the option of attending Academic Adventures as five-day boarders, and all students may register for both sessions. Please note: Any student who is a non-U.S. citizen or who has an international address must register as an International Camper. Upon arrival at Fay, these students will be assessed for English proficiency and may then be assigned to Academic Adventures if written and spoken English skills are sufficient.
MEET OUR DIRECTOR! Tim McCauley is the Director of Academic Adventures. Tim came to Fay in 2008, and during the school year he serves as the chair of Fay’s science department. Tim earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of New Hampshire; he lives on campus with his family and enjoys his multi-faceted role as educator, dorm parent, advisor, and coach.

Join the Academic Adventures CSI Team as you follow an imaginary murder mystery from crime scene to forensic lab. Learn about the principles of the scientific process as you analyze fingerprints, identify blood types, compare handwriting samples, and build a case to solve the crime.
Get your pens (or your laptops) ready to write! In this workshop, you’ll have a chance to express your creative ideas in all kinds of forms, from poetry and plays to short stories and more. robotics Develop your creative problem solving skills as you learn to design, build, and program robots using the LEGO® MindstormsTM platform. Can you make a robot that can navigate challenging terrain? Your challenge will be to build your own robot and program it to interact independently within its environment.
inventor Lab If you can think it, you can make it! In this workshop, you’ll be spending time in Fay’s Innovation Lab, which features rooms for designing, inventing, and fabricating. You’ll have access to our computers with 3D rendering software, our shops with tools for woodworking and modeling, and our 3D printers, which can make just about any design idea a reality!
The Ultimate Chain reaction: make a rube Goldberg music Video Check out the music video called “This Too Shall Pass” by OK Go (at http://tinyurl.com/y9lgsms) and you’ll see our inspiration for this class. Students will build a giant chainreaction machine—similar to the ones created by artist Rube Goldberg—and then we’ll create a music video to show the intricate workings of our brilliant creation!

news 2.0 Read all about it! This course is for writers and investigators who like to be in the know. You’ll create your own newspaper, do some investigative reporting, and learn about how new technologies have changed the way we create and read the news.
a Walk in the Woods Does the great outdoors inspire you to express yourself? In this workshop, students will take advantage of the many nearby natural wonders—the Sudbury Reservoir, the Nashoba River, and Mount Wachusett, just to name a few— and we’ll use these beautiful places as inspiration for writing projects, from poetry to original stories and personal essays.
Young Entrepreneurs: Business for the Greater Good Do you have a million-dollar idea? In this workshop, budding entrepreneurs work together to create a working business with a business plan, a real product for sale, an ad campaign, and a production and distribution strategy. Students will see their project through from design and sales to production and delivery—and then they’ll research and select a charity where they can donate the proceeds.

Overnight Camp for campers ages 10-14 Two two-week sessions July 12-24 and July 26 – August 7, 2015 THE PROGRAM Fay Overnight Camp is for campers ages 10-14 who are looking for a unique overnight experience. During the days, campers participate in our Day Camp program. Overnight campers may also register for Specialty Camps. In the afternoons and evenings, campers participate in activities that bring them together with the students in our Academic Adventures and English Immersion programs. In addition to sports, games, and field trips, campers also participate in service projects and teambuilding activities.

MEET OUR DIRECTOR! Kara Ashley is FaySummer’s Campus Life Director. Kara came to Fay in 2004, and during the school year she serves as one of Fay’s Learning Specialists. Kara earned her bachelor’s degree at Simmons College and her master’s degrees at Lesley University; she lives on campus with her family and enjoys her busy life as an educator, dorm parent, and advisor.

English Immersion for students ages 10-14

MEET OUR DIRECTOR! Alina Argueta is English Immersion’s Academic Director. She is the chair of Fay’s World Languages Department, where she oversees curriculum and instruction for French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Latin. Alina came to Fay in 1997; she earned her bachelor’s degree from Universidad Evangelica and her master’s in teaching from the School for International Training. Alina lives on campus and works closely with FaySummer’s Residential Director and FaySummer’s Director to ensure the quality of every student’s experience.
THE PROGRAM English Immersion is open to all international students ages 10-14 regardless of their level of English proficiency. It’s the perfect summer program for international students who are serious about developing their English skills, and it all takes place in a friendly, welcoming environment that provides the appropriate level of challenge and support. At the beginning of the session, teachers assess each student’s skill level and place him or her into one of three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced. Each morning, students participate in courses designed to improve their English writing, reading, and speaking skills. In addition to daily coursework, students are expected to complete approximately one hour of homework each night. During the afternoons and evenings, students put their English language skills to work while participating in activities with students who are enrolled in other summer programs. All English Immersion students may choose to sit for the TOEFL, Jr. at the end of the session. 26

REFUNDS
All registrations are processed on a first come, first served basis. All registrations must include all completed forms and deposit. The deposit amount is applied toward the total tuition, which is due June 1, 2015. FaySummer deposits are non-refundable. Some payment plans may be available; please contact the Camp Office for details.
FaySummer is not obligated to refund tuition for any applicant or participant who withdraws for any reason, including illness or injury. Th refund or reduction in fees is possible for a child who arrives late, leaves early, or attends only part of a session.
This camp complies with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (105CMR 430.000) and is licensed by the Town of Southborough Board of Health.

*Each overnight camper is required to maintain an incidental account (IA) to cover the cost of miscellaneous expenses that he or she may incur during the course of the summer. Such expenses may include the cost of special student activities, travel expenses, and personal allowances. At the end of the summer, the camper’s family will receive a statement of expenses incurred, and the remaining balance will be refunded. The student’s IA must be funded at the time of registration.
