Critic and editor Cathleen McGuigan was the Editor in Chief of Architectural Record from 2011 to 2022. Under her leadership, the magazine won numerous editorial awards, including the Grand Neal Award, the top honor for business-to-business publications. She began her journalism career at Newsweek, where she rose to become the architecture critic and the arts editor. McGuigan received a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and spent a year at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design as a Loeb Fellow. She sits on the Board of Trustees of the Skyscraper Museum in New York.

She is currently working on independent editorial projects, including a biography of the critic Aline Saarinen.

Senior Scholars

Jared Davenport, a native of Texarkana, Texas, is graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture. Jared joined the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design in the summer of 2020, right at the onset of the pandemic. During his time at school, he worked in the fabrication labs, assisted with the research of four different professors, and participated in numerous workshops led by pioneers in the field of architecture and design.

He served on the executive team for the American Institute of Architecture Students and Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society, and was a member of Freedom by Design and the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students. Additionally, Jared was a student at the Honors College and received the university’s Presidential Scholarship in 2022 and 2023. He has accepted a position at SCM Architects in Fayetteville, Arkansas, which he will start after graduation.

Morgan Clupka Bachelor of Interior Architecture and Design

Morgan Clupka, a first-generation college student from Siloam Springs, Arkansas, graduates with high distinction, earning a Bachelor of Interior Architecture and Design. During her time at the Fay Jones School, her work was selected to be showcased in the 2024 Spring ELEVATE Exhibition in Little Rock, Arkansas, and her group’s neighborhood design was chosen for construction in Sheridan, Arkansas. Her work was also featured in the school’s Speculations 2024 Spring Exhibition, and her group received an honorable mention for their 2024 IDEC Competition submission. Leading up to graduation, Morgan was awarded the Medal of Excellence for Interior Architecture and Design and was recognized by the Arkansas Alumni Association as a Senior of Significance.

Outside of class, Morgan served as a teaching assistant for four different courses and worked in the Materials Lab in the Fay Jones School. During her summers, Morgan studied abroad in Rome, Italy, and worked for Hollis & Miller Architects in Kansas City, Missouri. These experiences, combined with her academic achievements, have pushed her to grow as an individual and allowed her to flourish. Upon graduation, Morgan plans to join WER Architects/Planners in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She believes that the school has provided her with a strong foundation for success, and she is forever grateful for the faculty, staff, and students who have made her time at the school so impactful.
