Entertainment Districts approved for downtown and Pinewood Forest development Locals and guests spending time in certain portions of Downtown Fayetteville (see map below) and all of the new Pinewood Forest mixed-use development are now allowed to possess and consume alcoholic beverages outdoors when using cups bearing designated labels provided by the City. These Entertainment Districts have been created in order to further promote tourism and economic development in Fayetteville. Establishments serving alcoholic beverages for outdoor consumption must be located within the Entertainment Districts, and they must provide patrons with the designated Entertainment District cups. Establishments must verify legal age before refilling an Entertainment District cup, and minors are never allowed to possess an Entertainment District cup, whether empty or filled. The City Ordinance 0-13-19 also provides allowances for alcoholic beverages to be sold in movie theaters and qualifying event centers.

It looks more like a quaint mountain getaway, but that new building greeting guests at The Ridge Nature Area is actually an upscale bathroom facility. Generously built and donated by Fayetteville-based MEJA Construction, the bathroom facility went online in late April after power, water and sewer utilities were connected. The Ridge Nature Area, located at the end of Burch Road on the west side of Fayetteville, is a 308-acre preserve offering more than seven miles of trails for hiking, trail running and even mountain biking. It is owned by the City of Fayetteville and managed by Southern Conservation Trust.

Fayetteville’s sanitation contractor Waste Industries has been purchased by GFL (Green for Life) Environmental. Starting this month, all new customers will receive GFL garbage containers. Some of the newer Waste Industries trucks will be painted in GFL’s signature bright green color scheme, while older ones will not be painted but will bear the new GFL label. Existing customers will receive uninterrupted service during the transition, and company contact details will remain as they were under Waste Industries.

The best of the best bus drivers took part in the Fayette County Public Schools “School Bus Road-eo” recently, and several Fayetteville Police officers were on hand to help with the judging, including (above) Richard Gaines, Kistom Forrester, and Eddie Hernandez, and (below) Deputy Chief Robert Mask. Fayetteville’s public safety agencies along with Mayor Ed Johnson and other City Council members helped welcome American Legion National Commander Brett Reistad to the city on April 30 as he attended a 100th anniversary celebration at the Post #105 Log Cabin.
City gives preliminary approval for two new Downtown Fayetteville residential developments Walton Communities in March was approved to build a 270-home neighborhood that will face the City’s new downtown park with commercial space on the first floor, and now the City has approved preliminary development plans for Meridian on the Square, which will be built on seven acres along West Lanier Avenue (Hwy. 54 westbound) and North Glynn Street (Hwy. 85 North). The latter project
is located at the northwest corner of the Courthouse Square, and it will offer 223 apartment housing units as well as several restaurants and other businesses. Last year, the City of Fayetteville purchased around 10 acres of land along Stonewall Avenue to build a new city hall complex and vibrant park space. These together will be located adjacent to the Fayetteville City
Cemetery. These developers have recently offered images of what their developments may look like, but the concept images (below) are not final drawings. Details about these mixeduse projects must still be reviewed by City staff and the Fayetteville Planning Commission before construction may begin.

Fayetteville’s ailing gazebo is being replaced The recent demolition of Fayetteville’s Lane Brown Gazebo, which was located in Jack Day Park across the south intersection of Hwy. 85 and 54 from the Old Fayette County Courthouse, drew lots of emotion from many local residents who had grown fond of the landmark. City officials had to make the call several months ago due to concerns for the safety and upkeep of the original structure. Downtown Development Director Brian Wismer said a concrete slab is expected to be poured mid-May, and he said the new structure (similar to what is pictured at right) should be built by the end of the month, weather permitting. The new Lane Brown Gazebo project is funded by the City’s Hotel/Motel Tax.

A new web page on the City’s website, fayetteville-ga.gov, has been launched to help tell the story of Fayetteville’s downtown development. To access the page, web site visitors may click the Downtown link on the home page or access it directly at fayetteville-ga.gov/downtown. The centerpiece of Fayetteville’s downtown development over the next few years will be the new city hall building, which will be located along Stonewall Avenue next to Fayetteville City Cemetery and on the same spot where the vacated Fayette County Board of Education headquarters building is located now. Stretching
south from the city hall property will be the new Downtown Fayetteville park, which will include open spaces and engaging amenities for guests of all ages and abilities. News of the very important private developments are updated on the Downtown page as well, including what’s happening with the Walton Communities project that will be built on the south side of the new park and the latest on the Meridian on the Square mixed-use development, which will be located across the northern Hwy. 85 and 54 intersection from the Old Fayette County Courthouse.

1. Pinewood Forest - Tiny homes averaging 856 square feet are expected to be completed in late June.
2. Pinewood Forest - Capstone Apartments is expected to begin construction soon.
3. Pinewood Forest - Spotlight Theatres will begin construction soon on an upscale, eight-screen venue.
4. Pinewood Forest - The Capstone mixed-use building construction near the main entrance has begun.

Clown volunteers needed for June 21 Free “Moovie” Night event at amphitheater Main Street Fayetteville is calling for happy (non-scary) circus clown volunteers to participate in the Friday, June 21 Free “Moovie” Night at Zac Brown’s Southern Ground Amphitheater. Featured that night is the 2017 film “The Greatest Showman” starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron and Michelle Williams. Fayetteville Police & Fire take second in annual Public Safety Games A combined team of Fayetteville police and fire department personnel won several events during this year’s Fayette County Public Safety Games, placing second behind the Peachtree City Fire Department in overall points (465 to 350). Fayette County Fire earned 210 points, and Peachtree City Police earned 85. Fayetteville took top honors in several competitions, including sand volleyball, bowling, shooting, spikeball and golf. The Fayette County Recreation Department and Special Events Coordinator Blaze Jeffery organizes and oversees the month-long Fayette County Public Safety Games each year.

John Ford Coley & Firefall in concert Saturday, June 1
1970s legends John Ford Coley and Firefall will perform together Saturday, June 1, in Fayetteville at Zac Brown’s Southern Ground Amphitheater. Coley, who was half of the Grammy-nominated duo England Dan & John Ford Coley, ventured beyond
singing and songwriting to become a producer and even an on-screen actor. Firefall, still performing with three original members, is best known for its hit “You Are the Woman”, but they recorded nearly a dozen chart-topping hits on their way to earning three gold
albums and two platinum albums. Tickets for the June 1 concert start at $20 and are available online at SouthernGroundAmp.com. Gates open at 7, the opening act will go onstage at 8, and John Ford Coley & Firefall play at 9.
