NOTE 16. HOTEL/MOTEL LODGING TAX

The City has levied a 5% lodging tax. The Official Code of Georgia Annotated 48-13-50 requires that all lodging taxes levied of 5% or more be expended or obligated contractually for the promotion of tourism, conventions, or trade shows. For the fiscal year ended July 31, 2012, the City collected $98,203 of hotel/motel taxes. Management represents that $98,206, or 100%, of the lodging tax received during the year ended July 31, 2012, was used for the promotion of tourism.

NOTE 17. EXCISE TAXES ON RENTAL MOTOR VEHICLES

Under the provisions of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated Section 48-13-93, the City has imposed and collected an excise tax on rental motor vehicles. The Code section requires the City to expend taxes collected for the purpose of promoting tourism, conventions, trade shows, etc., and promoting the City and business therein. During the year ended July 31, 2012, the City transferred all motor vehicle excise taxes to the Downtown Development Authority, where it was used for the promotion of tourism. The following schedule represents the revenue and expenditures pertaining to the tax for the year ended July 31, 2012:
