TREASURER It is with pleasure that I present my Treasurer’s report for 2018. This is my third such report and I am pleased to announce that we have had another successful year on a number of fronts, namely financial, cultural, heritage and sport. We have celebrated our 50th year of foundation with many activities focused on this special achievement. Many members have taken the opportunity to utilise the anniversary membership $50 voucher and we thank all of you for your patronage and many complimentary comments and reviews. We now look forward to the next period of development of the Veneto Club.

The Bistro continues to operate at a high level with its revenue increasing by 14% on last year. Sala Venezia and Gondola Room also enjoyed significant revenue increase of 10% and 15% respectfully.

The Committee is excited by the public reviews the Club has received particularly in regards to the cultural activities and high standard of meals. These have a strong relationship to the success of the Club and patronage.

Of note, the Club has been able to grow by a further 105 new members since June 2017. The last 2 years has achieved the largest increase in membership for many years with a significant portion of these as ordinary members. Voting members at April 2018 stood at 1,212.

The overall financial performance for the year was a great success. Revenue now exceeds $12 million. Contribution from gaming revenue and functions was a significant increase on last year.

Gaming revenue was 14% up on last year while function revenue was also 12% up on 2017. The new activities and initiatives during the year were a great success and we look forward to continuing these and new programs in order to further improve our members experience and our financial performance.

With regard to the sporting activities, our largest activity, football, had a successful season in all parts of FC Bulleen Lions (FCBL). We continue in the highest level in Victoria. The Club together with Veneto Management were able to significantly increase revenues from sponsorship, enabling better funding of both senior NPL teams. During December 2017 to February 2018 we replaced the senior pitch with a new 3rd generation synthetic grass and infill including shock pad. The new pitch now has FIFA accreditation and was built at a cost of $624,450. By all reports, players, officials and pitch experts have commended the Club on its quality. Our Sports Department has made significant improvements in various other sports with a facelift of the squash courts, new tennis agreement with increased members and Veneto Club representative teams, and increased utilisation of the sports stadium.

The net profit for the year was similar to last year’s figure of $309,327. It highlights a reduced dependence on gaming and improved performance of food and beverage as well as increased return to members through direct discounts.

In relation to the Club’s cash position, during the year we had a further loan drawdown of $601,907 for the synthetic pitch replacement. Last year I reported a loan balance of $1,000,071.

In the last 12 months we have repaid $650,000 of that loan and now have a loan balance of $350,071 from the Bistro works plus $601,907 for the soccer pitch. Total loan is now $952,043.

A strong cash position is needed to enable the Club to work through its facility improvement plan which is constantly under review. Recently we determined that a review of major building repairs should be assessed together with a major enhancement of Sala Venezia. We are examining the opportunities this will provide for the next generation and determining the capability of the financial return of this project from the significant investment. We plan to identify this over the next 12 months.

The Committee is focused on continuing to improve the Club’s financial position in all areas in order to present to its members a strong growing facility that continues to support the Veneto heritage and culture, forward into the future. This vision cannot be achieved without the continuous support of our Management Team, their staff and the many volunteers that have contributed during the year to enhance and advance the Veneto Club for the benefit of all members and I thank them for their hard work.
