Dallila Sabbadini Presidente
President’s Report
by adding more events to our already busy social calendar for our community.
Veneto Club and are always available for the Veneto Club and for this I thank you.
Football has yet again been a pillar of our presence and provides us with a conduit for youth who will hopefully become the Club members and patrons of tomorrow.
To ALL our volunteers who come from all walks of life, I extend my sincere appreciation for your hard work, tireless efforts and continued support which you have provided to the Club all year round.
We also saw the book launch of ‘A Small Corner of the Veneto’, celebrating our Veneto migrant community and their achievements spanning over 40 years.
O
ver the last six years as President, I have seen many achievements reached at the Veneto Club some major some minor. 2014/15 despite the many challenges I have faced has been no different. I am pleased to report that during the 2014/15 year our membership has grown, we have been profitable, reduced our debt and made some investments within the Club through a diligent maintenance program. From an operational perspective, our plans to extend the kitchen are progressing well. The Club has appointed a new Executive Chef, in Alannah Fox and she has been responsible for mentoring our kitchen staff and enhancing our menus across the bistro and functions. We continually strive to provide to our members with a product that you can all be proud of and with the proposed kitchen improvements our focus is to provide a better and more efficient service and improve the overall dining experience for our members and patrons. A big thank you to all the kitchen team and the front of house staff. The sporting and cultural sub-committees of the Club continue to work hard in promoting their individual areas and working towards increasing membership
Researched and authored by Jenny Mountstephen, we were fortunate to have Sir James Gobbo AC, CVO, QC officially launch the book in April 2015. I encourage all members to purchase a copy and share our proud history with your family and friends. This is an achievement that I am very proud of. At the time of writing this report we were about to go live with our redeveloped website. I am pleased to advise that we have included a section for our cultural associations which will keep everyone up to date with all their events. We continue to increase our social media presence and activity, a platform that in this day and age is very important for any organization. I would like to thank our longstanding sponsors and welcome our new sponsors on board. The fact that we have been able to have sponsors who have been with us for over 15 years demonstrates both their commitment to us as well as our commitment to them. Your continued support and generosity does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated.
I encourage everyone to take the time to thank our volunteers and acknowledge the work that they do in what can sometimes be difficult circumstances. If we are to strive to further grow our Club effectively and proudly handover to the next generation, it is vital that we demonstrate through our actions respect for one and all. I am particularly grateful to our General Manager, Joe Morello who manages a team with integrity and a strong work ethic. I cannot thank you and your staff enough for all your hard work. Our members should be proud as am I, in the manner in which Joe and his team have conducted themselves and represented the Veneto Club not only towards members but to all visitors to our Club as well as our partners and suppliers. Finally, I would like to thank those on the Committee who have made a positive contribution to the Veneto Club over the past twelve months. Dallila Sabbadini President

was honoured to have been elected to the position of Vice President of the Veneto Club in 2014, and recently reminded that I continue to have a strong endorsement from many members. My portfolio of gaming has provided an insight of the challenges ahead, including the Victorian government’s requirement of all gaming venues to adopt a pre-commitment of expenditure which may lead to better outcomes for some individuals. The rollout of “Pre-Commitment” is in progress with implementation expected later in the year.
Youth Committee and then graduating to the position of Veneto Club Secretary under President Rino Tessarotto in the mid 1980’s, I am acutely aware of the responsibility that the Club Committee has to foster the Veneto culture through food, sport, entertainment, social and community interactions.
I
t is with great pleasure that I present my first report as Vice President of the Veneto Club. My involvement with the Club dates back over 40 years when as a young boy I would follow my father Francesco (‘Checco’ to his mates) almost every weekend to an area of land in Bulleen that was set aside as the future meeting place for migrants from the Veneto region that had decided to make Melbourne their home. Over the years I have enjoyed many hours being involved with liked minded peers immersing myself in my cultural heritage at the Club and endeavouring to pass this on with pride to my children. Having spent a few years on the Veneto
Over the past 12 months our General Manager, Joe Morello and his wonderful team have overseen another year of overall financial stability and continue to focus on ensuring that patrons have a positive experience when visiting the Club. A big thankyou to Joe and his team for their dedication and hard work during the past 12 months. My thanks also goes to all sub-committee members and volunteers who have contributed their valuable time for the betterment of the Club. One area that we have made great progress recently is in the area of Social Media. Having had a Facebook page for a number of years that has attracted over 1000 ‘likes’, we thought it important to stay in tune with social media trends and so at the beginning of April the Veneto Club opened an Instagram account. Instagram is about visual sharing and our aim is to share the Veneto Club story through regular posting of photos and
It gives me much pleasure to interact with many members of the Club in particular a group of members who wish to endorse the Italian settlers, including my heritage and recognize their early contribution in making the Veneto Club world renowned. Hopefully we can unveil this symbolism of gratitude in the not too distant future. Forza Italia! Oscar Forte Vice President
videos depicting various functions and more specifically food produced by our team of chefs. Although in its infancy, we see this media as an important way of connecting the Club to a greater demographic. You will also have recently noticed that the Veneto Club website has been updated. Website technology has developed at a very fast pace over the past few years and the Committee and management of the Club determined that we could benefit greatly by having a much more interactive and user-friendly website as the digital face of the Veneto Club. We see this new website as a significant contributor to gaining additional business particularly in the area of functions. My personal thanks to Phoebe Hinton, the Club’s Marketing and Membership Co-ordinator for all her hard work in the area of social media. In closing I would like to thank the members of the Veneto Club for entrusting me with this important position. It has truly been an honour and privilege to serve you over the past 12 months. Secretary’s Report
Carissimi soci del Veneto Club,
Dear Members of the Veneto Club,
It is a short time that I have been in the privileged position of Secretary of the Veneto Club. However, it has been many years that I have been part of our beloved Club as a son of a founding member Antonio Rosa.
Auguri a tutti i soci Oscar Rosa Segretario
I was elected recently, taking the place vacated for reasons of personal health, of the ex-Secretary Dennis Dalla Costa. His contribution to the Veneto Club is worthy of being noted. I was elected with the stated intention of working for a Veneto Club that works clearly for the purpose of promoting our beautiful Veneto culture. I have been part of few decisions about the future of our Club. However, I can say I have seen people who are volunteers and also employees of the Club who work hard to ensure the viable future of the Veneto Club. It is important that it is so and that this great Club honors for all time the legacy of those who created it. Congratulations to all Members! Oscar Rosa Secretary

Treasurer’s Report

013/2014 was a challenging year for the Veneto Club. The additional gaming costs imposed on us by the State Government combined with increasing expenses and depreciation have provided a slightly disappointing result in that our Net Profit has slipped compared to last year. The financial result was still a profit, but less than last year and below our capabilities.

The good news is that gaming revenue was steady, and our revenues from food and beverage increased. Managing costs remains an absolute priority. The Club continued to better align its business to the ever changing economic landscape, customers’ needs and the members’ evolving requirements. But we desperately need to embed risk awareness, accountability, management and compliance into our activities. The Committee is not vigilant in its evaluation of the economic and regulatory environment, and continues to focus on less important matters. Our members, our management and the Committee must be united in its goals to continue the financial success of the Veneto Club. We need to refocus on maximising the performance of food and beverage because this is the only area of our business that we can control. Gaming is not an area that we can control and because of this, it must be treated as a risk at all times. In 2015/2016 our objective is to improve our bottom line, and this can only be done with membership support, a focused management team and a strong, coherent Committee. To improve our bottom line, we must; • Improve member and customer experiences, and • Build a culture of accountability, performance and delivery I thank the members for their continuing support, the volunteers for their hard work, and management and staff for their commitment to achieving our goals. E
Joe Morello Direttore Sociale

General Manager’s Report
is dedicated to the exciting challenges ahead – including the Club’s renovations, new gaming legislation, and the potential for new business through increased promotion of functions and sport.
I
t is very positive to note that the Veneto Club is still consistently busy and that the venue is again showing revenue growth in all business drivers. Our bistro is constantly full in the evening and especially on the weekend. Financially, the results are still very strong, with some reduction in overall profit due to the recent increase in gaming taxes. Good news is that the Sunday Buffet has become very popular and it is wonderful to see so many families enjoying this weekly event. It has nearly become necessary to book for the special Veneto style Buffet on the first Sunday of each month. Recently we have made changes to the management team to ensure we are geared up for the challenges ahead. Our new Chef, Alannah Fox, has added an interesting new dimension to our menu offerings and this has been well-received by our patrons. Heath Szyrko the new Gaming Manager will assist with the challenges ahead in gaming and the new Pre-Commitment legislation coming in to play on December 1, 2015. Vanessa Grainger the new Functions Department Manager, comes to us with a wealth of experience in large hotels and will ensure our function and corporate business continues to grow. My team
We are always proud to be the home for functions raising money for charity and this year one of our special events is the Blush Gala Ball for CanTeen. This year, not only are we hosting a Gala Ball, a number of events are planned to add to the potential amount of funds raised and also to raise the profile of our efforts which generally go un-noticed. Thanks, as always, to the hard-working volunteers who help our venue operate so well, without your help so many things just would not get done. We are constantly looking at ways to improve our facilities and continue to welcome any feedback from members about ways to further improve facilities, in order to meet the evolving needs of our patrons. It’s pleasing that our membership base has been growing for the past few years and we look forward to continued, consistent growth in the coming years.
Members are enjoying the added benefits offered by the Club. Planning for the important kitchen renovations are nearly complete, with Tenders due back before the AGM on June 28, 2015. Our book, ‘A Small Corner of the Veneto’, was successfully launched by Sir James Gobbo AC, CVO, QC on April 30, 2015, in a function held here at the Club. What a great achievement! The feedback so far has been overwhelming; this book is a wonderful testament to the founding members of the Club who worked so hard in those early days to build a magnificent Club that we all appreciate today. The book is now available for purchase here at the Club, Members’ price: $40; Non-members’ price: $50. A heartfelt ‘thank you’ to all our valuable event sponsors that make our events even more successful. Your support is always very much appreciated. Finally, thank you to all the hard working staff of the Veneto Club for their wonderful efforts throughout the year. Joe Morello General Manager

The other two of the three new additions to personnel, Heath and Vanessa, are in the Operations team and they are responsible for ensuring their respective departments continue to be developed to the highest of industry standards, as we know the year to come will again be one of sustained growth and evolution.
I
t seems like it was only a few months ago that I was writing my last report for our 2014 magazine, and that only reinforces the fact that we have had yet another busy and successful year here at the Club. Over the past 12 months we have witnessed even further growth within all facets of the business, from our Bistro and Buffet patronage numbers, to the participation in fundraising events and special events including cultural offerings both new and traditional. During this time we have experienced some of the busiest periods the Club has ever encountered, especially the 2 weeks prior to Christmas within our Bistro, and I am proud of our team’s efforts to deliver such high quality food and customer service to our Club members and guests not only during peak seasons but throughout the entire year. It is important as always to acknowledge the generous support we get from suppliers and volunteers each and every year as we simply couldn’t achieve all the things we do without the generous contributions of time and product we receive, so thank you to all who have supported over the past year. As Joe mentioned in his report, we are fortunate to have strengthened our team with some key personnel this year, especially our new chef Alannah, as we continue to strive for higher standards in the quality of offerings and customer
We have had a strong focus towards the continuation of promoting our Veneto culture and I was very privileged to be given the chance to participate in a Veneto Region cultural education trip which included formal training from Associazione Italiana Sommelier (AIS) Master sommeliers and degustation dining at restaurants from the Gruppo Ristoratori Della Marca Trevigiana. The intense course was the first of its kind; a 12 month Level 1 Diploma course was condensed into just 5 days for a group of Australian professional operators of Italian businesses with the intention of promoting Italian wines for the Australian market. The course was extensive in its content and it covered a large scope of the fundamental principles and the science behind the production of Italian wines and other beverages including spirits and beers, and also how each type of beverage pairs with which type of food and why. I am honoured to have been involved in such an experience which has given me a new found appreciation for many Italian wines and spirits such as Prosecco and Grappa just to name two. During the course I travelled through many wine regions within Veneto, and we based our studies at the Scuola Enologica Conneligano which is renowned as one of the oldest and most important schools of oenology in the world to this day.
due to my determination to learn what was previously an unknown “old world” of Italian wine, I am proud to say that I was able to achieve the top marks in our group of Australian business operators and that I am now qualified as a AIS Level 1 Diploma Sommelier. Now that I have this training and knowledge behind me you can expect imported Italian wines to make a resurgence in numbers on our wine lists and to feature in future Wine and Food Dinners this year. Our objective is to offer a selection of quality wines predominately from the north of Italy as I personally believe this is where some of the best Italian varietals originate from. It is with great pleasure that I am able to put my newly acquired knowledge of wines back into the Veneto Club through our wine listings and Wine and Food Dinners. I look forward to being a part of another successful year – witnessing the Club grow and evolve with its members and the local community. Finally, I wish all members a safe a prosperous year ahead and hope to see you around the Club soon. Chris Sier Operations Manager

Functions Report food fare. With bustling bars and an array of roaming entertainment and children’s activities, guests enjoyed the festive atmosphere whilst escaping the elements of Melbourne weather. A day of fun and leisure was enjoyed by all who attended. We would like to thank all the volunteers whose tireless efforts continue to make Festa an ongoing success.
O
nce again 2014 has been both challenging and gratifying for the functions department. We have had the pleasure of organising many diverse celebrations for both Veneto Club members and new patrons. Melbourne’s unpredictable weather forced this year’s Festa Di San Marco on Saturday 25th April, to be held indoors in the mezzanine level of the Club. The Rialto Room housed a variety of food stations providing guests with traditional
Veneto Club was host to Festa Della Repubblica, held on the basketball court. All who attended were entertained by a variety of guest artists who performed on a large stage which was erected inside the court. Beverages flowed from a pop up bar and outside a vast marquee offered multiple Italian food stations. A highlight of 2014 was the introduction of ‘Aperitivo Cena’ every Friday night under the stars in La Gondola Café. With the main ingredients being spritz, cicchetti and jazz music, this was a perfect recipe to finish the working week. Wine and Food Dinners continued to provide an evening of fine dining and
exceptional wines in a stylish and intimate ambience. Featured wine makers continue to interact with guests who are keen to learn the secrets of producing the perfect wine. Our annual Blush Ball supporting CanTeen was a success due to the efforts of management, Committee and numerous volunteers. Blush will continue to support CanTeen in 2015 and we once again ask you for your valued support for this special organisation. We thank the functions and catering teams for their tireless efforts and continuous support in providing our clients with memorable celebrations at the Veneto Club. We would like to further thank all the members and patrons for choosing the Veneto Club to celebrate their special occasions. Thank you to management and Committee for their ongoing support and we look forward to a prosperous and eventful 2015 for functions at the Veneto Club. Francesca Daniele Functions Manager

irstly, I would like to thank the entire team for such a warm welcome over my first few months here at the Veneto Club. After a long tenure in sometimes soul-less city hotels, it has been a pleasure to join the ‘family’ here. My coconspirators in leading the kitchen team are our Sous Chefs; Charles Roussety and Romina Lamanna. The functions kitchen has kicked off the year at a cracking pace, with Saturday Night Dinner Dances and evening functions keeping the team on their toes. Our focus in functions this year will be on really honing our product and service into a force in the local market, and improving on our day conferencing output. With
the addition of Vanessa Grainger as Functions Manager, an improved functions package will be released, as well as a focused package for weddings and special events. Our bistro also continues to thrive, with a strong mix of regulars and visitors filling our tables day and night. The specials board is the star of the bistro, with all our chefs being involved in creating new and exciting dishes for our diners every week. I am a firm believer in collaborative menu design, as happy chefs make better food, and specials are an ideal way to nurture young talent, whilst ensuring variety for our members and guests. Having welcomed renowned Veneto Chef Luca Chemello into the team late last year, our ability to create true Veneto cuisine has been considerably
strengthened. Luca is involved in all menu design and implementation, to ensure we stay true to the history of the Club, whilst allowing our chefs to learn and improve on their knowledge of traditional regional fare. Every week we showcase a different option for Veneto cuisine, from our monthly Veneto Buffet in Sala Venezia, pasta master classes, both in the bistro and for private functions, and of course Festa di San Marco, where Luca prepared the famous Bacalà alla Vicentina to much acclaim. Lastly, a huge thank you to our amazing team of chefs and kitchen hands, for the hard work and dedication that ensures our guests are consistently satisfied and keep returning to the Club week in, week out. entertaining match. The two teams were separated by a wonder goal that sealed the silverware for the Club; not only did the women accomplish this, but also were desperately unlucky not to make the final of the league after going down in the semi-final.
T
he last twelve months have flown past and once again we start to wonder where the time has gone. Nevertheless, 2015 is upon us and we continue to grow as a business, and expand and build on what has been another positive year. Our sports facilities are one of the best in Victoria. This is clear to see by the amount of patrons who access our grounds. It gives me great joy to be involved with such a highly skilled and motivated group of people who make this all possible. The FC Bulleen Lions is now in its second year of the newly formed National Premier League (NPL) as we continue to be at the forefront of football in the state. Many community sporting clubs continue to utilize our facilities, helping establish a healthy and thriving community with many of our past and present families. FC Bulleen Lions Senior Men were on course for a promotion spot mid-way of last year, but unfortunately the young lads could not continue their dominance on the league, eventually finishing fifth for the year. This entertaining, attacking style of football saw the team achieve 64 goals for the season, with a top league scorer and NPL1 player of the season, if he was not ineligible due to a red card. As dominance faded in the Senior Men, it was our highly skilled Senior Women’s team that brought home the silverware. The State Cup win over South Melbourne was a truly

Junior Football at the Club is always an area of high interest across both young boys and girls. Our teams had mixed seasons across all age groups, some highs and some lows. I would like to thank all of the coaches, team managers, parents and volunteers for helping their teams through the season and continuing the strong tradition of football at the Veneto Club. Special thanks must go to Karen Daley for all her hard work in the office and making sure everyone is looked after. Thank you. To tennis and squash, I would like to congratulate all Club champions for their successful 2014 seasons. I wish you the best of luck for the upcoming season and will undoubtedly hear positive stories of success for the year to come. We have seen a substantial growth in squash membership this year and the recent activity in this area is a testament to the work being done behind the scenes. Our facility growth at the Club is on a high and we remain extremely popular with schools and locals. The Veneto Club was very proud to host the 2015 National Bocce Championships in June. Spectators and players arrived from across the nation placing the Veneto Club back in the national spotlight, as all patrons at the Club were eager to watch the tournaments proceedings. Australia’s top bocce players competed in singles, doubles and team competitions. It never ceases to amaze me at the amount of work our volunteers at the Club complete daily to make our lives easier. I’d like to personally thank Emilio, Aldo and all the
bocce volunteers for their amazing work and contribution to the Club day in, day out. Our golf members continue their monthly outings thanks to the efforts and coordination of Frank Pezzin. I urge anyone seeking a social, fun environment to get along to a couple of rounds on the greenery and join as a member. Italian days at the Club continue to be popular with the primary and secondary schools from local and afar. This has seen students get involved with Italian cooking with our Italian Chef, Luca Chemello, football training with our senior players and bocce with our volunteers. We have hosted numerous events in the past year including the AFX Cup, hosted by the Melbourne Chinese Soccer Association (MCSA), The National Police and Emergency Services games and National Special Olympics Games to name but a few. Thank you all for supporting sport at the Veneto Club and I hope as members that you see the changes being implemented across our facilities and the positive influence it is making to the community. All of this would not be possible without the help of every single member. I would like to thank each and every one of you for making our Club what it is today, and we will continue to take this Club to new heights in the years to come. Bring on 2015! FC Bulleen Lions Technical Director’s Report 2
014 saw the birth of the National Premier League of Victoria and we were proud to have been chosen to form part of this exciting direction for football throughout Australia. Every state has introduced this concept whereby the “best play against the best” and in so doing have a situation where the players development is accelerated, coaching standards are put in place. The National Curriculum must be adopted and followed by all participants which hopefully, when all added together, will facilitate Australian football producing our own Messi and Naymar. Our Club’s results in 2014 were fantastic. We were one of three Clubs that had five of its’ teams make the finals and we were the only Club that won two premierships and so we can proudly say we were the best Victorian team throughout the National Premier League (NPL) – well done everyone!!! We cannot rest however and we must strive to have every one of our teams winning titles and just as importantly, playing a style of football that the supporters can recognise and enjoy. I would like to thank all of our coaches and Committee members for the job they do at the Club and a special thank you to our sponsors for their kind donations to our great Club. ootball at the Veneto Club goes handin-hand with the Club’s history and a key element of its proud Australian-Italian culture. Coincidently, the Club’s new book ‘A Small Corner of the Veneto’, launched in April contains a chapter on football over the decades. Despite the many changes over time football is as strong as it has ever been, as our children have come to love it, breathe it and live it. We extend our thanks to the Veneto Club’s President, Dallila Sabbadini, for her strong leadership and support of football and Treasurer, Tino Campesato for his financial expertise and support. We thank the Veneto Club Board collectively for their ongoing partnership and support of all things football, sharing our rich history, culture and community. It was a historic year in Victorian Football and at FC Bulleen Lions (FCBL) with the inaugural year the National Premier League (NPL) in Victoria. For this reason, our Committee was freshly established following the March 2014 AGM and elections. It was also a highly successful year for our Women’s Senior WPL team taking out the Women’s State Knockout Cup in August. FC Bulleen Lions extends our appreciation and gratitude to our Technical Director of Football (TDF), Sergio Sabbadini, and Assistant Technical Director, John Waddell for their technical leadership and development of our accredited football coaching staff and direct player support. The FC Bulleen Lions Committee is made up of volunteer parents of players to administer football operations for FCBL for the direct benefit of players and families, and work closely with staff including, the Technical Directors of Football, coaches, FCBL Administrator, Karen Daley and the Veneto Club Sports Manager, Karl Hodge. Our efforts are focused on running an efficient and responsible football club

as well as creating a respectful and safe Club for players and coaches to thrive and focus on their football development and experience. As such, it is also important for us to create social occasions for parents who spend many hours a week at the Club, allowing them to foster connections and have fun. On behalf of the Club, I thank our outgoing 2014/15 Committee members for their commitment and efforts including, Sam Campo, David Del Monaco, Carlo Luciani, Michael Accardo, Andrea Waddell and Paul Sgarbossa! Key achievements in the 2014/15 season include; • Committee governance, systems and process • Improved financial management: budget review, approval process and monthly reporting • Increased applications for grants, including for improved change room facilities which benefit the Veneto Club • Improved Game Day systems and hosting presence • Issues management – coordinated FCBL response and resolution process for players, parents and officials • Creation of improved and affordable sponsorship packages for small and local businesses • Refreshing the Lion’s Den space, membership packages and benefits in order to attract new members and increase revenue while looking after existing members • New Website to be launched in May – improved usability and information • Participation in public relations and awareness campaigns, FFV and other • Organised 4 pre-season Gala Days: with information booth, raffles and food.
Over the 2015/16 season we will; • Continue to work harmoniously together for the benefit of the Club/s • Implement financial managementreduce expenses and increase revenue • Host FCBL social events: including an 80’s Dance Party, Pasta and Prosciutto Night and an A-League pre-match dinner • Senior women to run school holiday clinics in July • Create fun and engaging events to promote the Club/s and our programs and facilities • Actively recognise the contribution of our sponsors and volunteers • Increase our involvement and support to local community Clubs and local schools • Attract opportunities for higher educational sporting programs and other educational programs for disability access. We welcome our 2015/16 Committee Members (including some dedicated returning members), Sam Campo, David Del Monaco, Carlo Luciani, Michael Accardo, Andrea Waddell, Rob Rossi, Dino de Bortoli, Joe Nicolazzo and Joey Garofalo! FC Bulleen Lions Senior Men 2
014 saw the introduction of the new NPL football structure and with it a new era for FC Bulleen Lions. Already a leading participant in competitive senior football, FC Bulleen Lions has moved one more step forward in its endeavours of being a top ranked Club playing at the highest level. A strong focus on player development, recognition and pathway was clearly evident in both the U20s and Senior squads. The U20s led by coach Fausto De Amicis and assisted by Giuliano Febbrarino finished top of the league table (2014 champions) with 56 total aggregate points. They impressed all with their mature and disciplined approach to the game and consistency throughout the season proved to be the catalyst to their success and with that being said has seen two players, Anton Nardella and Billy
Romas, being promoted to the senior team for season 2015.
Second half of the season proved more of a challenge as opposition teams strengthened after the transfer window and some opportunities were lost in cementing our league standing.
The senior team led by Coach Fabrizio Soncin and assisted by Shaun Barbera finished 5th on the league table with 44 aggregate points.
A concerted effort to regain momentum saw the team forge once again a presence and the run home saw the winning flag raised on many occasions.
A dream start saw the seniors 2nd on the league table at mid season and the trend forecasting a final top tier position. Outstanding performances against rival teams both home and away were not only entertaining but proved testament to the team’s commitment and professionalism. A (round 11) 6-1 win away against Sunshine George Cross was certainly a highlight of the 2014 year. By this time a number of players had made their mark on the seasons stats, in particular Matteo Ballan (Captain), Joseph Katebian, Bardhi Hysolli and Takanori Nishimoto.
Overall 2014 NPL1 season 1 was successful and rewarding, paving a definite way forward in the pursuit of excellence in technical and personal development of its players, coaches and staff. Recognition of this was evident in the accolades presented by the Football Federation Victoria (FFV) to Matteo Ballan (League Best and Fairest), Joseph Katebian (League 3rd place Best and Fairest and Golden Boot). Congratulations to all for a job well done! Sam Campo Senior Operations Manager

nother terrific year with many boys achieving personal bests and teams making the finals.
This is one of the highlights of any junior football player at FC Bulleen Lions.
It is great to see the continued success across all Junior Teams and with several junior players being promoted into Senior Teams it cements our vision and philosophy as a Club to have players come from our junior ranks.
The cultural, sporting and belonging feeling will remain with them forever.
Under the guidance of our Technical Director Serge Sabbadini we have seen teams very focused and achieving results. Serge has certainly been a positive influence to coaches and players. Another successful Bassano tour was held in 2014 in Italy and yet again the U16s Squad are looking forward and preparing for the trip in 2015.
We will continue to harness the development of our Junior Players with the objective to elevate them through the ranks to senior football. I would like to also welcome all new players, parents and coaches we trust you will enjoy your stay at FC Bulleen Lions. Finally, many thanks to the Veneto Club, Managers and Staff for their continuing help and support, and to all Club Members, Sponsors we urge you to keep supporting FC Bulleen Lions in 2015. he Veneto Club Melbourne Fiveaside Competition was again a huge success.
Team entries once again exceeded 90 teams and we are pleased to see that many teams are re entering each year. This year we again had teams from Ringwood, Box Hill, Bulleen, Kew and Collingwood to name a few. We hope the popularity of the tournament continues. The Veneto Club and its facilities are second to none for the Fiveaside Competition. The Fiveaside competition caters for a broad spectrum of the community with teams ranging in age from U6/U7 right through to Open Men. Our competition was fiercely competitive and all look forward to returning in the 2015 year. Fiveaside runs from early October for 10 weeks until mid December. The Fiveaside competition ran three nights a week – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – on the ‘David Barro’ Synthetic Pitch. Karen Daley Administrator Relazione Annuale 2015

hat can I say about the 2014 season except that it was nothing short of an outstanding one for the Club, with our Women’s Premier League (WPL) Senior team finishing second in the league and winning the State Knockout Cup. Our seniors were crowned State Cup Champions after defeating the much more fancied South Melbourne team, 2 nil, in what was not only a phenomenal effort by our young team but and an historic occasion for the Club winning its first major Women’s trophy. This achievement is made all the more special given that last year was only our second season in the Women’s Premier League, so from small beginnings and with a lot of hard work behind the scenes, we have quickly established ourselves as a real force that is here to stay in the top tier of Victorian Football. Finishing top two seemed to be the theme for 2014 with our even younger WPL Reserves side putting in a mighty effort to finish second in what was the most competitive Reserves League to date and the State League 3 team demonstrating the depth of talent at the Club by also finishing second and winning promotion to State 2 Division.

014 was a transformation year at FC Bulleen Lions (FCBL), with the introduction of the FCBL Skills Development Program. The future looks very bright with our Under 12s, 14s and 16s doing well in the A leagues of their age groups and our U9s and 11s showing enormous promise under the watchful eyes of WPL Senior players who have taken on coaching roles.
There is great optimism about the long term success of Women’s Football at FCBL and why wouldn’t there be when you consider the quality of people involved together with the great facilities and continued support of the Football Sub-Committee, Veneto Club Board and Veneto Club Operations department.
the ages of 9-11, as part of the National Premier League (NPL), as well as continue the delivery of training to the girls’ teams. Our summation of 2014 has been one of immense satisfaction, knowing we have seen a quantum leap in the development of children in playing a brand of football, which is clearly unique to Bulleen. Like any institution, its foundations underpin its success and the aim of our MiniRoos Program is to provide those foundations in creating junior players, who are intelligent and technical, which ideally go to play in our seniors and better still, create the next Mark Bresiano or Matthew Leckie. The children have enjoyed and learnt via the thorough efforts provided by our Coaches and support staff in a great environment, and their support and efforts are greatly appreciated. Our success is reflective of the time they have put towards the children. Arthur Papas MiniRoos Technical Director
Bassano Tour 2014
Exploring Coverciano – The Home of ‘Calcio’
O
n Saturday 20th September 2014, the U16 Boys team set out to experience the tour of a lifetime to Bassano, Italy.
Walking through the streets of Padova (L-R): Regsan Watkins, Sebastien Lock, Zach Ahmad, Karl Giacchi, Nicolas Gentile, Jonothan Christopoulos, Adam Puccio, Adrian Piacente, Dion Sadiku
The tour – overseen by Italian National Youth Director Maurizio Viscidi and conducted by Stefano Esposito- allowed for the group to experience a thoroughly professional setting which placed great responsibility on the team, thus presenting fantastic opportunities to develop both on a footballing and personal level that all were eager to embrace. The theory and practical sessions were thorough and precise, each planned with an exact aim and purpose. In every session, players and coaches alike were actively encouraged to ask questions and present their own interpretation in order to expand their footballing knowledge. The prospect of working with such adept tactical minds such as Maurizio and Stefano was one the group eagerly anticipated and took part in. Whilst the results were not what the team expected, we were delighted to test ourselves against the best Italy had to offer, playing highly competitive football against teams such as Vicenza, Cittadella and Inter Milan. One also cannot ignore the wonderful cultural experiences Italy has to offer. From the many different pasta dishes served by the wonderful Hotel Belvedere, to learning how to make Prosciutto from an award-winning prosciuttai, to practicing our varying degrees of Italian in the many different towns we were able to visit, the group equally enjoyed their off-the-field happenings as on it! The Bassano Tour is the perfect summation of the FC Bulleen Lions’ Junior Football Program, providing the perfect stepping stone into senior football. The 2014 Tour in particular can be considered a great success, with ten players having been promoted to the U20 squad for the 2015 season.
Team Photo prior to the match vs. Cittadella TOP (L-R): Samuel McRitchie, Nicolas Gentile, Gabriel Nigro, Brayden Constantini, Stefan Rankovic (GK), Sebastien Lock, Oscar Bertelle, Deni Sirgoski, Karl Giacchi, Stefan Cardamone BOTTOM (L-R): Jonothan Christopoulos, Dion Sadiku, Joseph Sgambati, Daniel Roccioletti, Adam Puccio, Zach Ahmad, Adrian Piacente, Xavier Pietrobon, Daniel Pappas, Regsan Watkins
Having had the opportunity to reflect back on the tour, it is one we all look back with great fondness and encourage all who have the privilege to grasp every opportunity that such an experience facilitates. ‘Molte grazie’ to all who contributed on both sides of the world to make the tour a fantastic two weeks! Wishing all the best to the 2015 Bassano Tour. Zach Ahmad

he Committee of the Veneto Cycling Club is pleased to report on the progress of the cycling group. The last event that we held was on Sunday the 14th of December 2014. We combined with the Italo Cycling Club’s annual Panettone Ride, leaving from Carlton and riding a 60km loop to finish at “La Baracca” at the Veneto Club for a mid morning brunch of “Panettone and Moscato”. A good time was had by one and all who participated with seven members of the Veneto Cycling Club joining the large group of Italo Club riders. Until the next organized event, we encourage our members to ride with the Italo Club Training ride every Sunday morning leaving at the corner of Faraday St and Lygon St, Carlton at 7.30am.

Your objective should be to get these tasks off your list and into the hands of a professional team as soon as possible! Our specialty is providing a very cost effective, fully scalable and flexible ‘Back Office Team’ that will take care of all of these tasks for you. n behalf of Fermo and Patricia, I would like to take the opportunity to welcome you all to this long awaited and much anticipated grand 90th birthday celebration. May you look back on all those years with much pleasure. We have in our prayers our loved mum Giuseppina and brother Renzo who we miss so much but are here in spirit. Fermo has carefully planned this celebration for some time and has really wanted to share this day with each and every one of you and just wishes that you all enjoy yourselves. You’re in for a big feast and you will not be leaving until you eat every course served. Fermo, congratulations on reaching this amazing milestone. You have achieved so much throughout your life and you have touched so many lives. You are a unique individual who always does things differently and impressively. Everyone in this room has had a special moment and some wonderful memories of you. Please share your memories with one another today – whilst there are some serious stories there are so many hilarious. You have taught us all to work hard to achieve your goals and to live life to the fullest and always look forward, dream big and fight on. You have the ability to bring out the best and the worst in our selves and I can certainly admit to that! Fermo, a happy belated birthday to you. May God give you the strength to celebrate many more anniversies and beautiful sunsets with us. You are already halfway to your next birthday so I hope that you throw us another grand celebration. Have a wonderful day full of happiness and may you look back all those years with much pleasure. Remember that at 90, you are not old – just a classic. Leo, Son-in-law of Fermo Marchetti

quash at Veneto Club is going through a transition due to several new players joining the ranks and eager to play competition within the various grades. C-2 Runners-Up L-R: Diah Hammoud, Daniel Conncallato, Adrian Cassar, Richard Smaldino and John Cassar.
Last season pennant results were mixed with our C-2 Grade coming runners-up in the final, only just. However our E-Grade team did manage to alleviate top spot, premiers and well deserved for the hard work. The other teams finished strongly, however did not quite make it into the finals. Congratulations to all members! Currently, in the Autumn season we have at least 3 teams playing extremely well, with the possibility of three pennants. Best and fairest awards for the last spring 2014 season were, C-2 Grade Adrian Cassar, C-3 Grade Mitch Williamson, E-1 Grade Oscar Morandini and E -2 Grade Bart Marguglio. More information is available at www. vidatennis.com.au MAINTENANCE It is pleasing to report that in the next few weeks, there is a considerable amount of time and effort in restoring the courts with a new layer of en tout cas, maintaining and pruning the tree branches overhanging into the courts and obscuring the lights from all the courts. This restoration work will bring the courts back to a top standard for our members to use. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT On behalf of the tennis Committee we would like to thank Alma Zanatta for organising the Ladies Tuesday Competition and also for keeping the tennis room in perfect condition at all times during the year. Alma’s dedication and hard work cannot go unnoticed. Veneto Club
Ladies Auxiliary I

Picnic annuale: Lidia, Tina, Maria, Elio e Gabriella

Gruppo Trevisani in gita in Tasmania
L
L

Manuela Scremin
