t the last annual general meeting I indicated that the year we have just completed would be a year of change. And indeed it was. If you have visited the Club recently you will have noticed many exciting changes. These include a new reception area, and the relocation of the bistro and gaming to ground level. We now have an alfresco dining area and also a children's playground. Our catering team is providing Italian food both modern and traditional together with improved service. In one small paragraph I have described major refurbishments and reorganisation at the Club, produced at considerable cost and significant effort by a dedicated team of professionals. For those members who have not already done so, I encourage you all to come along, together with family and friends, enjoy a meal and soak up the atmosphere at our newly refurbished Club. Last year I also indicated that in the past, the Club had not been travelling well financially. The year ended has shown significant improvement, but because of the interruptions caused by the refurbishment, the final result is not what we originally anticipated. The main difficulty was being able to attract the desired functions to maintain a break even point during the last three months of the financial year. Our budgeted prediction for the current twelve months is expected to produce a very positive bottom line. It is now essential that we attract additional patronage, including new members and the wider community to our Club. Future focuses . Maintaining a high standard for food and service; Conversion of mezzanine floor to a welcoming member friendly environment; Addressing maintenance items in need of attention; Review and update of the Club Constitution; - Promotion of our sporting and recreation facilities; - Promotion of Club memberships; Promotion of corporate and function facilities; - Implementation of a marketing strategy; Focus on youth and the younger generation. The Committee is committed and will continue in its endeavour of reinstating the Club back to its former status. Indeed, we want to make use of our excellent location and promote ourselves community wide. We need the support of all

Members to "pick up" on this theme together with family and friends. Traditionally our popular events continued. These included the Club Anniversary, and what proved to be the enormously successful Christmas Picnic and the Sagra di San Marco. Una Notte Sotto Le Stelle was a fun filled night even though the fireworks display was cancelled by our local Council due to the high fire danger, and then we had a downpour! Our traditional Castagnata was another great day. Even though we have had some setbacks, our sports continued to thrive. The drought affected soccer grounds and tennis courts are a concern and we are still hopeful of good soaking rain. The Bulleen Zebras 10 year contract expired and they elected to seek greener pastures elsewhere. Junior soccer continues to enjoy enormous success with over 700 players, both boys and girls. We will be working with the Juniors and the Football Federation of Victoria to ensure both senior and junior soccer have a permanent home at the Veneto Club. Bocce is strong and successful and has been very generous in their financial support. Other sports doing well include basketball, tennis, squash, the popular gymnasium and dance classes. Behind each organisation there are groups of people who are the heart and soul of the Club. Without these people we simply would not exist. It is with great pleasure that I thank in no particular order the following . The Ladies Auxiliary who give countless hours of time and donate their hard earned dollars back to the club.

The Maintenance Group who somehow find the materials and provide sweat and labour to maintain or upgrade our premises. The Associations who provide support via the many functions they have and uphold our traditions. The Volunteers who run and support committees of various sports. And those who simply help in what they are asked to do. The Staff who professionally run the Club and under somewhat difficult circumstances during refurbishments. It would be remiss of me if I did not give our
General Manager, Joe Morello, special mention. Joe, with his professionalism is providing the impetuous needed to revitalise the Club. I also must congratulate him on winning the "Community Club Manager for 2006" awarded by the Club Manager's Association of Australia. In closing I thank my Committee for their time and effort during a difficult year. I believe that together with our Members we can keep our club very much alive and actively progressing. Relazione del Presidente,

ll'ultima assemblea generale dei soci io avevo indicato che l'anno che abbiamo appena trascorso sarebbe stato un anno di cambiamenti. E lo stato certamente. Chi ha visitato il club recentemente avra potuto notare molte interessanti innovazioni. Fra queste posso indicare la nuova area per ricevimenti, la rilocazione del ristorante "Bistr6" e dei giochi al piano terreno. Ora abbiamo una nuova area del ristorante all'aperto e anche it recinto per i giochi dei bambini. Il nostro personale per la ristorazione provvede una cucina di stile italiano moderna e tradizionale con un servizio migliorato. In un piccolo paragrafo io avevo descritto un importante rinnovamento e una grande riorganizzazione del Club, eseguita ad un considerevole costo e con un significante impegno da un gruppo di professionisti. A tutti coloro che ancora non l'abbiano gia fatto, rivolgo it mio invito di venire al club, assieme alla famiglia e agli amici per pranzare e immergersi nell'atmosfera del nostro rinnovato ambiente. L'anno scorso avevo anche indicato che nel passato il Club non andava bene finanziariamente. L'anno appena trascorso ha mostrato un significante miglioramento, ma a causa dell'interruzione avuta per it rinnovamento, it risultato finale non 6 quello che originalmente avevamo indicato. La maggiore difficolta a stata quella di essere capaci di attrarre le funzioni necessarie a mantenere una stability di introiti durante gli ultimi tre mesi dell'anno finanziario. La nostra previsione di stima per i dodici mesi correnti 6 di stabilire una linea di base veramente positiva. E ora essenziale che si aumenti l'afflusso della clientela, sia con nuovi soci e sia dalla comunita in generale. Punti di impegno per il futuro: - Mantenere un elevato standard nel servizio e nella cucina;

have been an active member of the Veneto Club for over 30 years and would like firstly to thank all members for electing me as part of the Committee of this great club during the last 12 months. As you are aware we have been actively working on renovating and refurbishing the bistro and new gaming room to improve facilities for existing members and promoting the new facilities to a younger community. To this point I would like to single out our Club Manager, Mr Joe Morello for his tireless work in promoting the club and assistance during the last 12 months. Lastly I would like to thank all members for your continued support and contribution to this great club and invite you all to spread the word and invite all your family and friends to enjoy our great facilities. nce again the Club can be proud of the progress made in the last 12 months. Continuing on from the foundation laid by the previous committee, this year we have further increased the focus in the Club's financial management and preparing the Club for the future. The committee has been driven by being as transparent as possible with members, as well as providing strong management to ensure the future viability of your Veneto Club. As has been said in the past this cannot be done by the committee alone, and once again on behalf of the committee I take this opportunity to thank the many people that make the Club the great place that it will continue to be. Our manager Joe Morello has continued to improve service levels and processes across all dimensions of the Club' services. Joe has worked tirelessly to oversee the renovations and has worked closely with the committee to make the renovations as successful as possible and to put the Club in a position to benefit from the investment made. The Club has a long-standing tradition of being supported by volunteers and this year is no exception. The Ladies' Auxiliary has done an outstanding job in supporting the Club in many of its functions, and continues to be an integral part of the Club's cultural fabric. In addition the Maintenance Committee has done an outstanding job in making sure that many of the facilities that the members enjoy are kept in good working order — all at not cost to the Club. A particular mention must be made of the work the Maintenance Committee and other volunteers have done to upgrade the Veneto Club's famous "baracca". The old shed at the back of the soccer grounds has long been a foundation piece of the Club's history and through the work of the Maintenance Committee and other members it has had a much-needed facelift. As the Club moves into a new age with significant renovations and improved facilities, sport of all kinds will continue to be a cornerstone of the Club's tradition. This year Junior Soccer has had record numbers of up and coming young stars sign up for its program. Given the challenges we have had over the last 12 months with soccer this is an incredible effort that the Junior Soccer Committee should be congratulated for. This is a testament not only to their hard work but also highlights the strength of the Junior Soccer program.
Dallila Sabbadini Second Vice President / Acting Secretary Personally I am proud of what the Veneto Club Committee has achieved this year and it has been an honour for me to play my part. The Club has again moved forward this year and with the exciting changes being made the future is looking strong. Dahlia Sabbadini

ear Members, The financial year just ended has once again continued to be an extremely trying period for our club. The realization of our commitment to refurbish and increase the profile of our establishment has obviously impacted on our financial performance this year. The magnitude of this project is the main reason for a fall in sales over the past 3 months, and unfortunately this is a sacrifice we needed to endure if we as a united club are to move forward in the years ahead. The increased expenses of financing the loan for our redevelopment will fully impact in the coming months. It is imperative that once the new facilities are in full operation the members and public embrace the new look and enjoy all that the revamped club will have to offer. The moment of truth is upon us and this is our one and only chance to ensure the financial viability of our great club is assured for many years to come. On a positive note we have budgeted for a significant turnaround once the new amenities are in full operation. The projected Net Profit for May 2007 to April 2008 is approximately $ 265,000. If we can achieve this result in the coming 12 month period we will be well on our way to consolidating our future, and once again enjoying the recognition and benefits that are gained by running a successful operation. We are extremely fortunate to have the services of such a dedicated and committed General Manager as Joe Morello. I am very confident that Joe along with the committee will ensure that all areas of operation in the coming months run at an optimum level. We must take full advantage of our new direction and it is imperative that our quality of food and service is first class, only then will our venue be a serious contender to our competitors. Decor is important but friendly courteous staff and fine dining is what will attract people through our doors. In business there is a saying that you are only as good as your staff, you can have the best management in the country, but if your employees do not have the commitment or desire to implement the direction of management, then your business will be doomed to failure. The loss incurred by our club last year was $220,000, and this financial year our loss is substantially less. We obviously have to turn the negative to a positive and hopefully in this article next year we will finally be able to achieve our goals. We have being going backwards for a number of years,
Lucio Tumolero Treasurer
and we must all do our best to ensure we again become the number 1 Italian venue in Melbourne. Two groups that always give their all year in year out are the Ladies Auxiliary and the Maintenance Committee, and a special thank you must go to these people who are the backbone of our club. The traditional functions held at the club each year take an abundance of resources and manpower to organize. The people behind the scenes who are there at every event, rolling up their sleeves, making sure the venue is set up to cater for various functions are to be commended for their passion. I sincerely hope for all members, but especially for these people that the club thrives and becomes a vibrant and exciting place to be in years to come. I must commend Frank Rossato on his commitment and determination towards striving for a better club, a club who required tough decisions to be made. Frank was relentless in his pursuit to ensure that the decisions once accepted were carried through. The committee members have also shown great team spirit and I have enjoyed being part of this group, and the decision making in the past 12 month period. The Veneto Club is a proud club a club which celebrates its 40th anniversary since its foundation. Times have changed but the pride and the tradition of the club have not. It is now up to all members to embrace our club, and also welcome members of the public, from all walks of life, to enjoy and experience the resurgence of a wonderful establishment, that has been a part of Melbourne culture for many years in the Italian community. ari Soci,
Ovviamente noi dobbiamo cambiare it negativo in

ast year in this magazine I mentioned that the next year would be challenging, indeed it has been. I have seen the Club transformed with the new renovations into a modern, family friendly facility. The newly renovated Gaming Room and Bistro are something to be proud of. The transformation of the old Sala San Marco into the gaming and bistro area is nothing short of incredible. The downstairs area has taken a lot of effort to achieve by many people. By moving gaming and bistro downstairs not only has this given the venue a new lease of life, it has also given the Veneto Club a lot more scope to attract a new demographic. Firstly gaming and bistro are more accessible and welcoming to everyone and we now also have an extra function room to utilise. The new Gondola Room has great vista over the soccer grounds and is an ideal sized room for meetings and medium sized conferences. We can now comfortably accommodate 120 people plus or more in a theatre style conference. The Rialto Room which was completed in December 2006 now houses Bingo and is also utilised for functions up to 200 people. The Club is now structured to enable us to explore new and exciting opportunities we can take advantage of. There are so many facets to the Veneto Club that require time and effort. This is a huge responsibility, but one that I enjoy and hope to be able to continue to improve upon. The effort of many people especially the volunteers must not go unmentioned. I don't give these people anywhere near enough credit for their efforts, and I'm talking about the Ladies Auxiliary and the Maintenance Crew. These people are here day in day out helping out wherever possible. A special mention should also go to Celio Stocco and Paul Sgarbossa from the committee who also assist the Club whenever asked. The next year will see the Club really develop, with the renovation now complete all effort's should be focused on consolidating the area downstairs as well as securing new functions and conferences in the newly opened Rialto and Gondola Rooms. I also believe the Club can improve a great deal in sports. This is a very important part of the Club that has not reached its full potential. The renovations will see many new faces in the

This past year the Ladies Auxiliary volunteers, working together with the Maintenance Committee Volunteers held two successful fundraisers at the Baracca.... One, "Renovation of the Baracca" and the other, "Porchetta al Fresco". Together with income from these functions, donations from the Associations and their support, we were able to raise $8,500. A further $3,500 was donated by the Ladies Auxiliary making a total of $12,000 which was paid for the carpets and blinds needed for the new Rialto Room. Once again, thank you to our loyal friends who come along time and again to participate in our functions ... your support is so important and with the exciting changes at the Club, we all look forward to a wonderful year ahead.

Tennis Hi Tennis Fans, I am sure you are all interested in what has happened to our Tennis Club over the last twelve months. Due to a lack of financial sponsorships, we had to abandon our intention of having a team in the State Grade Tennis Competition this year. This was unfortunate, as the team had had three great seasons, during which they won the flag the first year and were runners up the next. It is a very expensive exercise to enter a team into the State Grade Competition and without external sponsorship the Tennis Club could not afford to sponsor it alone. It would seem that our members' enthusiasm for tennis is waning. Our junior ranks have dramatically declined and even our adult members playing competition have significantly fallen. The most likely cause of this is the lack of new members joining the club, and the ageing of existing membership population. We should all try to encourage our friends and families to join the club to maintain our reputation as one of the strongest and most desirable tennis clubs in Melbourne. Juniors Report
Carlo Travaglini and Donato D'Augello, winners of the"Brutti" competition.
In the current Autumn season we have only 3 junior teams playing competition tennis. This is along way short of our peak when we had 12 teams. If any members have children that would love to play in the Saturday morning competition please contact us. The three teams are all doing well and we anticipate at least one to reach the finals. Thanks to Vida Tennis for coaching the juniors and for organizing the competition; and thank you to all the parents who help out when needed. Ladies Tennis Report Unfortunately we do not have any lady members playing in the Wednesday Night competition this year. We are down to one team, Section 4 in Tuesday's H.D.T.A. competition. They are currently in 5th place but are confident of winning the next couple of matches, thereby making the finals and hopefully bringing home the flag. We also have one team in the Thursday competition which starts early May. Good luck ladies. Thanks once again to Alma Zanatta for organizing the ladies' day tennis and for looking after the tennis room so well. Men's Tuesday Night Competition In the current Autumn season we originally entered 9teams, but when stage 3 water restrictions where introduced we were forced to reduce the number of teams to 6. This consists of 2 teams in the open competition and 4 teams in the Veterans Competition. This confirms our ageing membership. Luckily one of our other teams was able to secure courts at Deepdene, and continues to play under the Veneto Club umbrella. We are currently mid way through the season and nearly all the teams are in the top four. If this continues we should bring home some flags. In the Spring season of 2006 we were lucky enough to win two flags. Congratulations to Section 5 consisting of Romeo Crema, Philip Price, Raymond Barro, Nick Longo, Anthony Zannoni and Alex Cosic; and to Vet's Section 8 consisting of Tony Trovato, Philip McCrone, Val Di Felice, Frank Casciaro, Vince Di Grazia and John Amadio. Belli and Brutti Competition At the end of last season we again held this traditional competition. For most members this is the highlight of the season. It allows the members to socialize whilst playing competitive tennis, due to the handicap system, and enjoy a few drinks and a barbeque on the final night. I would like to sincerely thank Carlo Travaglini from Allepat and Taylor for his most generous donation of wines and beer for this event. I would also like to thank Philip Price (the handicapper), Romeo Crema for organizing the teams and cooking the BBQ, and everyone else who chipped in and helped when needed. Once again it was a great event with Vince DiGrazia and John Amadio winning the Belli Section and Carlo Travaglini and Donato D'Augello winning the Brutti Section. Annual General Meeting This year's A.G.M. will be held on 16 July at 8pm.I would encourage all members to come along and discuss the current status and the future direction of the Tennis Club. Unfortunately over the past 2 years it has been left upto three members to run the Tennis Committee. It would seem most members have become apathetic and are not prepared to contribute any of their time to help run the Tennis Club or even to help
Louis Crema and Tony Cecchin
organize certain functions such as social tennis events. I hope we have some members with a new lease of enthusiasm that can join the committee. So please come along to the AGM and have your say. Finally, I would like to thank two other members of the Tennis Committee, Alma Zannata and Romeo Crema for their dedication and hard work through out the year. Regards Tony Trovato President of the Veneto Tennis Sub Committee

ur Golf Club is now midway through its 3rd year of intraclub competition and travelling very well. Games played so far this year include Bundoora, Yarrambat, Yarra Bend and Kingston Links. Participation in the monthly games remains steady and all our golfers continue to exude a fine balance between fun, enthusiasm and competitiveness. Current membership stands at 37 (32 gentlemen and 5 ladies). New members are always very welcome. In particular we invite and seek an increase in our ladies membership. So we encourage all you ladies that have an interest in golf to come along and join our current group of lady golfers ...whether you are an experienced low handicapper or an enthusiastic beginner our club has something to offer. Veneto Club Golf promises to be challenging and enjoyable for every member. 2006 Veneto Club Golf Championship As in the previous year the 2006 Veneto Club Golf Championship was contested and decided on the aggregate results of the 10 annual games played monthly between February and November 2006. Unlike 2005 where the Championship was decided on the result of the very last game the 2006 season saw a 'runaway' winner who had the championship won with 3 games still to be played. Congratulations to our 2006 Veneto Club Golf Champion, Marino Rech, for a year long display of very strong, steady and consistent golf. Giulio Lunardi Runner Up: 3rd Place:

Ringrazio tutti i membri del "Bocce SubCommittee" ed in particolare tutti i nostri sponsors che ci aiutano nelle nostre competizioni: Bruno e Pierina Grollo, Stephe Papal Advance Stone, John Peruzzo Gasco Pty Ltd, Provinciale Funerals, it Veneto Club, Rino e Damien Giacomin, Veneto Club Ladies Auxiliary e Gervasi Foodworks; a tutti un caloroso grazie. he past spring and current autumn squash pennant season has been very active and with mixed results. In the spring pennant season, Team 1 after winning most of the home and away matches did not make the finals, however Team 2 found the opposition a little too strong, so it was decided to move to a lower grade El, with some more rewarding results. The current autumn pennant season is fast approaching and a significant result is possible, with Team 2, fighting eager opponents in the finals — with such optimism and enthusiasm — a flag is possible. The Veneto Squash would like to expand to incorporate other teams for the coming Spring Carnival. So, any enthusiastic male or female who would like to join the teams, or formulate mixed teams at any grade or level, please contact the Veneto Club. Lou Dalla Riva Secretary

C'era it nostro Babbo Natale, e tutti i bimbi ansiosi di vederlo e andarci vicino a ricevere it regalino.

Katia Bacchin Segretaria APM Melbourne

ASSOCIAZIONE TREVISANI \EL MONDO Inc T
