II Presidente Fiorino Bortolotto (Fury)

PRESIDENT'S REPORT Dear Members. Another year has come to an end, which may I say, at such speed that it has caught me by surprise. The year has been marred by our financial status and in particular the food and service problems that have plagued the club. We seem to take two steps forward and three steps back. The committee has still looked forward, and we have made some serious adjustments in the way we deliver food and service. The most serious and significant was the appointment of Mr Joe Morello as General Manager of the club. He comes with strong credentials and back ground in the hospitality industry and his appointment, only recent, shows fresh signs in his ability to take charge and regaining control of the staff and facilities at the club. I would like to welcome Joe and ask all members to welcome him to the Veneto Club, as we all know the challenge is great. We have recently changed all our key cooking staff, therefore, with Joe, and a new appointment of a head chef and bistro chef, already there are signs of a better and consistent product and service. We hope that the members come and try the new cuisine on offer at the club, and we will continually monitors this. Your feed back and information will assist Joe to ensure we get it right. A commitment by my committee and Clubs Victoria early this year was to look at the past performance of the club and try to identify the problems which have occurred over the past five to six years and see if we could come up with "why" we are in this current position and produce a strategy for the future of the club by implementing a proper 5 year plan. We came up with some key points, and may I say,
as you would all agree, the major problem has been the food and service component of the club, we need it to be of better quality and more traditional Veneto offering. Another key point is the age of the facility; while our competitors have been refurbishing their venues the club has been quiet in this area, and our facilities have dated dramatically. So this brings me to our 'Mud plan' for the future of the club. In keeping it brief the main focus would be, bring all the main business of the club, that is gaming and bistro downstairs and creating a pizza area, al fresco piazza and further create an atmosphere which will appeal to a larger member base and customers, and have a special member and conference area on the second floor. However the committee and management is very mindful that before entering such venture the club must stabilize its current position, it should also continue with the project and plans to be ready to move forward and realise the project in consultation with it's members this year. May I say that we have worked very hard in trying to unify the club with it's associations, the second "Sagra" was very successful, and I believe the future of junior member won't be whether they are Trevisani, Padovani, Vicentini or Veronesi etc. but VENETI (polentoni) and I urge that the presidents and their committee take the necessary steps now to unite, do thing together as one group before its too late, at the end of the day "unity" will work. All sporting groups have show great enthusiasm with the Bulleen Zebras regaining their form of last year and constantly showing their commitment to the Veneto club in the usage of the facilities and bars

around the club and I like to welcome the Essendon Royals as tenants at the club which gives us soccer every Monday at the club. The tireless effort of the junior soccer committee around the club with the introduction of a girl's team in their line up has shown our maturity in the community of Manningham. Tennis and squash and the formation of a new golf sub committee makes us a club in which we are able to offer a large variety of sport to all new members and their friends. Bocce has had a success in the area of women champions and we can boast of our own Australian womens' champion The gym has shone with a great athlete being part of our team in dealing with both old and young requirements and the growing use of our stadium with more outside use. The tireless efforts of the ladies auxiliary have been again a big part of the clubs offering from the "Sagra", "Una Notte Sotto le Stelle", the Christmas and chestnut picnic and probably a top up of helpers would be great to share the constant demands put on a small few. Maintenance at the club continues to plague us this year with a major blackout and a burst water main and pipes that are corroding, may I say that because of the swift action of our maintance committee we have had little or no down time, however cost of maintenance is up. The recent Special General meeting was a good sign that member still believe in the clubs ability to

regain its status as the best Italian club in Melbourne and I believe some sound foundations and measures have been put in place to achieve these goals. Finally I would like to take this opportunity in thanking my wife Grace and family for their understanding of my commitment to the Veneto club. Thankyou to my committee, the Ladies auxiliary, volunteers, member and friends with whom I have bounced ideas off, managers and staff for their tireless endeavours, and for their trust, loyalty and support over the past 3 years. General Managers Report It is truly an honour to be working at the Veneto Club, although I have only been at the Veneto Club for a short period of time, it is easy to see the very hard work that's happened over the years to get the club to where it is today. I am looking forward to a long and prosperous association with the club. I would welcome all members, when next in the club to introduce yourself to me and say hello so I can get to know as many people as possible. I am looking forward to the enormous challenge ahead as the General Manager of the Veneto Club, I understand this position comes with a great deal of responsibility, and I'm sure with my past experience in the hospitality industry spanning over 20 years I can make a real difference. To succeed in this role I will need support from the committee and members alike, I believe for the club to have a vibrant future, some changes will need to take place. We can no longer rely only on our members; we need to attract new clientele to the vast facilities of the club whilst still maintaining the history of the club. There are many issues facing the club at the moment, however with right commitment and support team I know the future can be bright again. Once again I will look forward to a long association with the Veneto Club. Regards, Joe Morello General Manager.

Treasurer's Report Dear Members The financial year just ended in April 2005 has not been a fruitful one. As indicated in the financial reports, our losses are at an all time high. The principal reason for this is loss of custom and obviously resultant revenue. The result as can be expected has placed tremendous strain on our cash resources. In April at an extraordinary meeting, members were asked for approval to increase our overdraft facility. Following your approval, our Bank increased the facility with the proviso that strict monitoring of cash be followed and periodical results be forwarded to the bank for perusal. This was agreed to. What happens now? A General Manager has been appointed who will work closely with the Committee to rejuvenate our food and service in the first instance. It is very critical that we win back our members and customers. While this is happening, cost cutting and monitoring practices will be implemented wherever possible. When this is achieved we will start looking at the proposed plans presented at the extraordinary meeting. In closing I would like to thank the members and volunteers, in particular the Ladies Auxiliary and our Maintenance Committee for their continued support and help. Thank you to the staff for their efforts, and in many cases their voluntary support. Frank Rossato - Treasurer

Ladies Auxiliary Annual Report June 2005 The Veneto Club Ladies Auxiliary was fortunate late last year to be presented with the Victorian Award for Excellence in Multicultural Affairs for Meritorious Service in the Community, by Mr John Landy the Governor of Victoria. Our receiving this award was made possible by you, the members, who have supported our efforts over the course of many years, for this we thank you and hope that you will continue to do so.

We have recently moved our Sunday Night Family Restaurant upstairs to Sala Venezia, a change which has enabled us to speed-up the service and improve the selection of meals and now also includes a "Children's Menu". We hope this will encourage more of our members to bring their families and friends along on Sunday nights for a very reasonably priced meal in a friendly, family atmosphere. To those who come along regularly and to the new volunteers who help with the service, a sincere thank-you.

The last half of the Bocce season has come to a finish quickly, and the keen Bocce players are looking forward to another year. Over the years the numbers of "keen Bocce players" are diminishing and new Bocce players are not coming forward. Perhaps the format of playing a Bocce competition over a full day 9AM-8PM no longer appeals to the majority of players, and a negative trend is developing that will soon need to be addressed. Having said that, the Veneto Club still has its fair share of "keen Bocce" players, and the results which they have achieved still make the Veneto club a force in the sport. Congratulations to E. Stangherlin, A. Giacomin for making the Women's Victorian team and V. Brecevic and G. Favaro for making the Men's team for Victoria. That makes 4 of the 8 representative for Victoria, Veneto Club players. The new committee for the 05-06 season has remained unchanged with the following persons in charge for the new season. President: D. Alberti Vice President: E. Colla, Secretary: E. Gatto Committee: R. Bordin, A. Giacomin, M. Giacomin, L. Iacone and P. Montagna. The committee to work harder to cover the absence of Dominic. We hope after his holidays he comes back refreshed and ready to continue the good work he has achieved for Bocce. The best competition for the year by far was the "Bruno and Pierina Grollo Classic". I can see this becoming a major event on the Bocce calendar. This year we attracted teams from Morwell, Canberra, NSW and the metro clubs. The word will definitely spread and we can look forward to this competition getting bigger and better. Thank you to Bruno and Pierinia Grollo for supporting the vision that Emilio and Agnese had to bring a major Bocce competition to the Veneto Club. We thank the sponsors for the 04-05 Season. Especially Lago Smallgoods who every year since I can remember have sponsored the Ladies Bocce competition, Rosalba Stocco has certainly made this the Lago Ladies Competition. Tony Frigo from Il Provinciale has done likewise, every year Provinciale supports the friendship cup between Marconi and Griffith. Rino Giacomin late last year played an integral part in repairing the Bocce courts and this

season we welcome him and his company as a sponsor. Hopefully all the sponsors find their involvement with Bocce rewarding and continue to support us for many seasons to come. The "Wednesday Night" competition defies the trend, providing solid numbers (60-80) and regular competition. Players seem to enjoy the short competition, and it is as much social as it competitive and it caters for diverse range in skill levels. Renzo Bordin and Emillo Colla have done an excellent job in replacing Dominic Alberti with the running of the competition. It's good to see so many other persons assisting them in getting the job done. The Royal Children's Hospital competition is another that defies the trend and keeps growing every year. Every year the Mario Angeloni Family and a committed group of Volunteers manage to showcase Bocce and raise over $5000 for the worthy cause. This year over 130 players, together with major sponsorship from the "Veneto Club and Di Oro Jewelry " provided the basis for the success of the competition and the results. Congratulations to this year's winner: Currently the Veneto team in the BFV Club Championship is sitting in second position with one date and three games to be played. By the time you read this article the winner will have been decided. Emilio Colla has accepted the arduous task of trying to select a winning team over the 6 dates. I know it's not an easy task and players need to question their ability and commitment to the sport rather than thinking they have a right to represent the side. The Istrian and Sunshine Club have improved their player in the last 3 years and for Emilio to pull of a win is going to be hard. A second position is a realistic result and one to be proud of. Late January the Veneto Club hosted the annual "Raffa Bocce Competition " Vs our friends from Mount Gambier. Renzo's commitment to the project needs to be admired as he work day and night to get the courts ready sourcing and preparing the material and then helping set up the courts. I think this sport has the potential to eclipse the "volo" style we play. The game has color, action and the throwing skill can be learnt very quickly. The players enjoyed the re-
VENETO CLUB - 2004/'05 Annual Report - Page 10
union in competition once again. We thank Frank Capriotti once again for visiting us and look forward to returning to Mount Gambier next year and taking back the trophy. Congratulation to his winning team. The Sydney trip / Marconi Competition this year was also a success from all reports and the participants and guests had an excellent time in Sydney and at the Marconi Club. Thank you to all the players that participated in the invitation competition throughout the year. Competitions like the Cooma cup and Griffith cup and so on. Every year the same group represents the Veneto Club. We look forward to seeing new faces to this competition next year. As every year the committees and volunteers that put valuable time and effort to bringing their bit to the sport and the club need to be admired for their efforts, and before members and players criticize, they need to see the other side of the fence. I challenge all Bocce players to have a positive input for season 05-06, if we all work together next season will be bigger and better.

Tennis Report Hello Fellow Tennis Members, This year the Veneto Tennis Club has had a great year as will become evident from reading the following report. State Grade Team Following the success of last year we again entered a team into the State Grade Competition. There are only 8 teams accepted, making this a very exclusive and prestigious competition. Our club is therefore ranked amongst the most elite tennis clubs in Victoria, such as Kooyong and Grace Park. So far the team is doing really well have won the first three rounds of the competition. We also have two A Grade Pennant teams and they are also in the four. Entering a team into the State Grade Competition is a very expensive commitment, and it is only due to the generous donations of several sponsors and the proceeds from the Tennis Party Nite that we have been able to do so. Thank you once again to the following sponsors: Mario Rex Jewellers Bergamin Paving Ital Biscuits L & D Electrical Services Pty Ltd W.O.W. Travel Vida Tennis National Australia Bank Veneto Club It would be greatly appreciated if members could show
their support towards these sponsors. Juniors Report In this years Autumn competition we have five teams competing. They have all played really well and three teams are into the finals. Well-done and good luck. Thank you once again to Pablo, the team managers and all the parents for supporting the competition and helping out when needed. Without their help the competition would not survive. So parents, if you can help in any way, please offer your services. Ladies Tennis Report Three teams played in the Autumn 2005 Wednesday night competition. Unfortunately the teams where not as competitive this year compared to last year, and so no flags where forth coming. Congratulations to the ladies in the H.D.T.A. Tuesday competition and section 6 in the Thursday competition for winning their respective divisions. Keep playing great tennis. Well-done Alma Zanatta for doing a terrific job in organizing the ladies' day tennis. Men's Tuesday Night Competition In the Autumn 2005 season we entered 9 teams, 5 of which were in the Veterans Competition. In the Men's Open, Sections 6 and 7 both won the grand final and in the Veterans Competition Section 1, team 2 were way to classy for their competitors and brought home the flag. Well-done boys. Thank you to Romeo Crema for organizing the Tuesday night competition. A job well done!

Tennis Party Nile This year we decided to change the theme from a dinner dance to a "party nite". This was held on 4th June and about 150 guests attended. We provided the three most important factors for a good party. A warm and colorful room. Good food and beverages and great music. It was then up to the guests to enjoy themselves and so far every person that I have spoken to said they had a terrific time. It was very pleasing to see some of the younger players attend the night and have a great time. Our sincere thanks to Daniella Crema, Gianna Trovato and Paul Bisiani for organizing a fantastic night. Annual General Meeting The A.G.M. of the Veneto Tennis Club will be held on the 4th July at 8pm so please everyone come along and participate. Finally, I would like to thank the Romeo Crema, Val Di Felice, Paul Bisiani and Alma Zanatta for their hard work in the committee. Kinds Regards Tony Trovato President of the Tennis Sub Committee

SPORT CENTRE REPORT Dear Veneto Club members, It is with pleasure that I am able to report to you the on-going success of our sports centre. In the last 12-month period (May 04 — May 05) we have sold over 350 gym memberships, showing just how important the gym is when it comes to introducing new people to the Veneto Club. The gym is a hive of fun, enthusiasm and activity during its peak times and it's a pleasure to see so many people strive to meet their goals whilst enjoying a very social atmosphere. Changing the gym hours? Due to an increase in members we are currently conducting a survey in which members have an opportunity to record their favourite times to workout. The results will be out soon! Our gym turns 8 years old! Our gym turns 8 years old this October and we still have many members with us who joined up back in 1997. Our gym is known for its social, relaxed environment and this is largely due to these loyal members. I thank them all for their support over the years.

Comunita Montana IA, Gf, )0uti! dei 7 Comuni fi-4."11. di Asiago Sezione di Melbourne Another busy six months for the Comunita Montana, with our usual Harrietville "Camp Quality" weekend in February. See Photo's. We had another successful Annual Picnic in March at the Baracca, and yes, as usual, it did manage to lightly rain in Bulleen, to spoil the "Pignata Competition" but the kids loved it anyway, so what if we did get wet. We had our Monday Pasquetta again at the Veneto Club, Sala San Marco at Easter attended by 180 members and friends. Our AGM was held on the 12th June, with 190 members in attendance. The Committee was disappointed to see Mr Bruno Rodeghiero decide to retire from the Committee, as he has done a fantastic job for the Comunita Montana serving as Vice President, Treasurer and Committee Member over the 30 years since our group has been formed. I am sure that we have not lost him completely as we still need his services in the barbeques and spit-roasts and salami making. It was decided by motion at our AGM that we make Mr Bruno Rodeghiero a life member, and we welcomed back Mrs Mirella Rebeschini as committee member. - Ciao for now. Luciano Benetti President

Mi unisco a tutto it comitato nell'estendere a tutti i nostri soci ii grazie piu' riconoscente per la vostra generosa fedelta' all'ente.
Piergiorgio Cappellotto Presidente F.A.V.
tanto rosea. Sentitamente Piergiorgio Cappellotto Presidente

"Veneto Club Golf'
G
olf is a new sport for the Veneto Club. The new golf club is called "Veneto Club Golf' and played its first game earlier this year on Sunday 6th February 2005 at Kingston Links. This inaugural game and the season so far has being a great success. The games are played with a sense of fun, enthusiasm and competitiveness. Competition is held monthly throughout the year, and is contested vigorously by all members. With the format being to play only once a month on a different golf course, variety is not a problem and being only once a month this puts little pressure on precious family time. Prizes are an integral part of each monthly competition.
Players score points on each hole according to a point system that takes into consideration each player's handicap. The monthly winner is the player with the highest score at the end of each game. The Veneto Club Golf Championship Cup is awarded to the player with the highest aggregate points score at the end of the season. As golf universally climbs to new heights of popularity, people of widely varying ability are drawn to the game. Our new golf club currently has 44 members including five ladies. There is always room for more, so if anyone would like to become a member, just contact any member of the Golf Committee ....whether you be an experienced low handicap golfer or an enthusiastic beginner our new golf club has something to offer. Veneto Club Golf promises to be challenging and enjoyable for every member.
The games are played using the Stableford format.
