Relazione del Presidente Mi rivolgo nuovamente a voi tutti, can soci di questo nostro amato club, ancora nella mia mansione di Presidente, da voi conferitami e da me orgogliosamente accettata. Siamo infatti giunti alla fine di un altro anno amministrativo. Sotto it profilo finanziario questo a stato uno di quegli anni magri che si vorrebbero evitare ma che purtroppo avvengono e che ci mettono in grandi difficolta. In queste circostanze it comitato deve lavorare di pill e deve trovare nuove risorse per poter progredire. Ma non 6 sempre facile. Ognuno ha dato del suo meglio, ognuno si e impegnato al massimo portando molte idee e tutta l'esperienza in suo possesso. Speriamo che questi nostri sforzi non siano stati vani e che possano portare nuova ricchezza e nuova vita in un futuro non troppo lontano.

Un prirno passo che a stato fatto, nella convinzione che sia quello giusto, a stato quello di assumere un "General Manager". Mr Keth Jackson, questo a it suo nome, ha preso le redini della direzione del Club e cerchera di stimolare tutte le attivita possibili, introdurra it club a nuova clientela e divulghera tutte le potenziali agevolazioni che it nostro club puo offrire. Sicuramente le cose non potranno cambiare dall'oggi al domani. Ma i risultati dovrebbero farsi vedere molto presto.

Coraggio e buon lavoro Mr Jackson!

Dal mio punto di vista desidererei che noi veneti di vecchio stampo ci riunissimo pill spesso al club e che portassimo con noi i nostri figli oppure che ci facessimo portare al Club da loro. Noi possiamo offrire loro la nostra ricchezza culturale, la nostra esperienza, it nostro calore familiare e se necessario anche la nostra disponibilita pecuniaria.

Dimentichiamoci di appartenere a quella specifica provincia o a quella particolare parrocchia; pensiamo invece che siamo lontani dalla terra che ci ha dato i natali e che siamo tutti veneti e che qui, in questa grande ed ospitale terra, possiamo riunirci pill spesso e, senza vivere di nostalgia, possiamo godere della nostra cultura, della nostra lingua e delle nostre tradizioni, cosi come se fossimo nel Veneto. Questo era to spirito dei fondatori del nostro club e questo to spirito che tutt'oggi ci deve pervadere.

Altri club finiranno con to scemare della generazione che li ha costituiti, facciamo in modo che it nostro sopravviva poiche, con tutto it lavoro che stato fatto, ne ha la possibilita.

Sotto it patrocinio del Veneto Club si stanno organizzando due avvenimenti straordinari per la prima volta in Australia. La famosa "Partita a Scacchi" con personaggi viventi che si celebra ogni anno a Marostica, sara a Melbourne nel prossimo novembre. Duecento persone che fanno parte del gruppo "Scacchi di Marostica" saranno ospiti del Veneto Club e altrettante persone di Melbourne saranno impiegate come comparse per la manifestazione. It secondo avvenimento di grande importanza, sara l'allestimento di una grandiosa "Fiera Veneta" dove saranno esibiti in Australia prodotti e tecnologia del Veneto. La Regione Veneto sovvenzionera in gran parte entrambi gli avvenimenti.

Termino ringraziando it comitato del club per la continua e preziosa collaborazione e tutto it personale dipendente del club per la grande dedizione. Un particolare ringraziamento to rivolgo alle insostituibili signore ausiliarie del club e a tutti i lavoratori volontari che con la loro abnegazione danno un sostanziale contributo al Club.

Auguro al nuovo comitato e a tutti i soci un futuro prospero con tante soddisfazioni.

President's Report 1 turn to you once again, dear members of our beloved Club, still in my role as President, a role conferred upon me by you and by me proudly accepted. We have, yet again, reached the end of another financial year. In financial terms, this has been one of those lean years we all would like to avoid, but that unfortunately comes about and places us in great difficulty. In these circumstances, the Committee has to work harder and find new resources in order to move forward; but it is not always easy.

We, each and one of us, have given our best and have worked as hard as possible to bring forth many ideas and all our available experience. We hope our efforts have not been in vain and that they will be able to carry forth renewed wealth and life to our Club, in a not too distant future.

One of the first steps we have taken, in the belief that it is the right one, has been to employ a General Manager. Mr Keith Jackson has taken over the management of the Club and will try to stimulate growth through all possible activities. He will introduce the Club to a new clientele and will promote all the potential benefits our Club has to

offer. Obviously, the changes will not occur overnight, however, results should begin to surface very quickly.

Have courage and all the best in your work, Mr Jackson!

For my part, I would like to see us, the old Veneto folk, meeting more regularly at the Club and to see us here, in the company of our sons and daughters, or, better still, to have them bring us to the Club. We are able to offer them our cultural wealth, our experience, our familial affection and, if necessary, our financial help. Let us forget that we belong to a particular province or parish. Let's instead think that we are far from our native land and that we are all Veneti. Being here, in this large and hospitable country, we can meet more frequently and, without pining, can enjoy our culture, our language and our traditions, just as if we were in the Veneto.

This was the spirit of our Club's founders and it is the spirit that still needs to exist today. Other clubs may fade with the generation that established them. Let's ensure that our Club will survive, since it has all the potential to do so, given all the work that has been done.

Two outstanding events are being organized, for the first time in Australia, under the patronage of the Veneto Club. The famous Living Chess Game that is celebrated biannually at Marostica, will come to Melbourne next November. Two hundred people, who are a part of the Schacchi di Marostica group, will be guests of the Veneto Club. And, just as many people from Melbourne will be employed as extras, for the performance.

The second major event will be the hosting of a great Fiera Veneta (Veneto Trade Fair), where Veneto's products and technology will be exhibited in Australia. The Veneto Region will subsidize the greater part of both events.

At the Club, we have under way plans for yet another great event: the 30th. Anniversary of the founding of our club. This celebration will take place in early December.

In concluding, I would like to thank the Committee of Management for its continued and highly valued collaboration, as well as all the Club's employees for their great commitment. I would like to extend a special thank you to the irreplaceable Ladies' Auxiliaries and to all the voluntary workers who, through their efforts and sacrifice, make a substantial contribution to the Club.

I wish the new Committee and all the Club's members, a prosperous future filled with much success.

First Vice-President Report Dear Members We have reached the conclusion of another financial year, which certainly has been one filled with many interesting events, developments, club improvements and changes.

As you well know, this year is the 30th.

Anniversary of our club and this in itself suggests our club is ageing and there is a great need for maintenance, renovations, and member support.

As the Liaison Officer for the Soccer, I have had the pleasure and opportunity of meeting experts in the sport and working with them to the best of my ability. Associated with the tennis for 25 years, this has been a new learning experience for me. As the saying goes.... "Learn the art and put it aside". Best of luck Bulleen Zebras.

Dal Secondo Vice-Presidente Cari Amici Membri E stato un gran piacere per me poter servire i membri del Veneto Club durante gli ultimi 12 mesi.

Posso dire di aver imparato una buona lezione. E senz'altro meglio fare i filosofi che esprimere veramente se stessi. In tutti i casi ringrazio tutti voi, che cio malgrado, mi avete dato it vostro supporto alle ultime elezioni. Nonostante che sia deluso dei risultati ottenuti, avevo ambizioni diverse, devo dire che it comitato, in genere, si e adoperato al meglio delle sue capacita. Lo sport delle Bocce ha dato buoni risultati, con sempre maggiore partecipazione alle competizioni, delle quali ne abbiamo avute parecchie quest'anno, inclusa la gara Australia contro China, avvenuta all'inizio di marzo, promossa dalla Australian Bocce Federation.

It has been a great pleasure to serve the members of Veneto Club for the last 12 months. Although I am disappointed with the results; my ambitions were different; I can say that generally the Committee has performed at the best of its capacity.

The Bocce sport had good results, with constant increase in interest in the competitions, which where numerous this year, including, Australia v China, at the beginning of March, promoted by Australian Bocce Federation. My thanks, to all those who gave me their support. Congratulations to the Ladies Auxiliary for their effort and result. My appreciation to all the staff, hanging on there Guys. I wish all of you dear members a prosperous future as well as for our Club. To all of you, but in particular to the more senior, good health.

SECRETARY'S REPORT Dear Members, I have been procrastinating with this report for the past two weeks, not because I didn't want to write it, but simply because I wanted to present it differently. However, "same ol same ol".

The membership statistics are a little concerning.

We have a total of 1928 members (a downslide on previous years and not counting gaming members).

This figure is made up of 14 Life Members, 371 Foundation Members, 864 Ordinary Members, 641 Associate Members and 38 Honorary Members. Of these, Life and Honorary do not pay an Annual Subscription; so consequently, we have 1867 Financial Members (as at the time this magazine went to print). Bear in mind though, that over fifty per cent are on Aged Concession Rate (only pay half). So, it would appear that we are not really going forward with our membership even though there has been a minimal increase this year.

The Annual Financials will be explained to you in detail by our Treasurer Fury Bortolotto. The figures may seem disappointing but it is extremely important that you bear in mind circumstances beyond our control (such a the downslide in gaming and increases in Insurances). Another factor, which should be pointed out, is the usual CPI increases which has resulted in a cost increase to us of approx 5% across the board from ALL our suppliers and which we have not passed on to our members. The reason I have ventured into this area (which is not really for me to do so) is because I can assure you that our President, our Treasurer, and indeed the entire board has done it's utmost to curb the overheads and general expenditure, a fact which can be verified when you peruse the Financial Report.

Annual General Meeting; what an important time for our club. I know I have said it before, and I will continue to do so, but PLEASE, I sincerely urge our young members to come forward and take an active role. At this point I would like to say thank you to Fury, Orlando and Tiziana for doing so, it has been a pleasure working with you over the past twelve months.

To club members wishing to nominate for committee, it is extremely important (a) that you have the time to spare (any task requires a good deal of time if it is to be done properly), and (b) that you understand fully the "Fiduciary" duties and "Statutory" duties of each committee member.

Management is the duty of the Manager. Policy is the

responsibility of committee. Once a person is appointed to management, the committee must allow him/her to manage. Every committee member has a "Duty of Care, Skill and Diligence", and in recent years there has been clear evidence of the shift towards higher levels of care and skill required of the committee.

• The committee must take reasonable steps to place themselves in a position to guide and monitor the management of the club.

• Committee members cannot escape this liability by being passive; they need at least to have a rudimentary understanding of the business of the club.

• Committee must ensure that proper accounting and control procedures are in place.

• You should at the very least have a basic understanding of how this operates as well as a basic understanding of financial accounts.

• Be sure the club is solvent.

• Attend all committee meetings.

• That you are able to identify any conflict of interest, and know how to resolve same.

• Make proper use of Club information.

To avoid this personal liability, the best remedy is to make sure that you are actively involved. But, active involvement does not mean you have to participate in every day-to-day activity. It does mean, however, that you do have an understanding of the Club and how it operates. A Breach of Article 7.2 in the "Duty, Diligence and Care of Committee" may lead to a Civil Penalty of up to $200,000-00.

Therefore, consider all the above when you nominate, but more importantly, it is every member's responsibility to choose their committee very carefully. Which brings me to Item 8 of this year's Agenda and the reason why I have proposed that the committee members be reduced to no more than seven (7).

I truly believe that it is absolutely essential that the members VOTE for whom they believe would best represent them. This under the current constitution does not seem to be happening as it is always difficult to arrive at thirteen (13) candidates, and consequently, as we have seen in past years, the committee is usually elected by default. Further to this, with the appointment of a General Manager committee portfolios have been greatly reduced and a seven Gent/Lady team would suffice.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new General Manager Mr Keith Jackson. Keith comes to us with a wealth of knowledge of the Hospitality Industry and even after just a short month we are seeing results. Thank you Keith, you have certainly made my life a lot easier.

people who make up our community. Starting with our President, John Peruzzo, a more loyal and dedicated man would be hard to find. To my committee colleagues, thank you for a great year, we have worked well and have faced the many challenges together as a team. To the Veneto Club SubCommittees, Associations of the Veneto Region, Ladies Auxiliary, Voluntary Workers, All Members of Staff, in particular administration with whom I work very closely with (Tony, Marina, Florence and Mario) a huge thank you for I know that very often you work way and beyond the call of duty. Thank you to our members who so loyally support our club, we look forward to your continued support and seeing you often at our premises. And last but not least, a big thanks to my wonderful family who truly support and encourage me always.

Relazione Del Segretario Cari soci, io sto temporeggiando con questa mia relazione da due settimane, e 66 non perch& non voglio scriverla, ma semplicemente perche vorrei presentare qualcosa di diverso. Comunque, "1 6 uguale a 1".

La statistica del numero di associazioni al club e un po' preoccupante. Noi abbiamo un totale di 1928 soci (numero inferiore rispetto all'anno precedente, non contando i soci del gioco alle "Poker Machine". II totale dei soci e formato da 14 soci a vita, 371 soci fondatori, 864 soci ordinari, 641 associati e 38 soci onorari. Fra quest, i soci a vita e quelli onorari non pagano la sottoscrizione, e quindi abbiamo 1867 soci paganti alla presente data. Da tener presente inoltre che circa il 50 % dei soci paganti sono pensionati e pertanto pagano solo meta della quota di associazione.

In conclusione, si pu6 ben vedere che non andiamo troppo lontano con le quote di associazione nonostante quel piccolo aumento che c'e stato quest'anno.

Il bilancio finanziario che presentera it nostro Tesoriere Fury Bortolotto, spieghera in dettaglio tutta la situazione. Le cifre possono sembrare deludenti ma estremamente importante tener presenti le circostanze che non possono essere sotto il nostro controllo, come la diminuzione delle presenze al gioco delle Poker Machine e l'aumento delle polizze assicurative.

Un altro fattore che bisogna evidenziare a l'usuale aumento del CPI che a risultato di circa del 5 su tutte le forniture e che non 6 stato passato sui costi ai nostri soci. La ragione per cui mi sono avventurata in questo settore (nel quale non avrei neppure dovuto), 6 per assicurarvi che it nostro Presidente, it nostro Tesoriere, e veramente tutto it Comitato hanno fatto tutto cio che sia stato possibile per diminuire il deficit e le spese generali, un fatto che potrete constatare quando esaminerete la relazione finanziaria.

Assemblea Annuale dei Soci; quale importante evento per il nostro Club. So di aver gia detto questo prima, ma continuer?) a ripeterlo: PER FAVORE, sinceramente esorto i nostri soci pift giovani di farsi avanti e prendere un ruolo attivo nel Club. A questo punto vorrei dire grazie a Fury, Orlando e Tiziana che lo stanno facendo, a stato un piacere lavorare con loro durante i trascorsi 12 mesi.

• Per i soci che desiderano candidarsi per il comitato, e estremamente importante (primo) che abbiano abbastanza tempo da dedicare al Club, (ogni lavoro richiede una buona parte di tempo se deve essere fatto bene), e (secondo) che siano perfettamente a conoscenza dei doveri di delega e dello statuto costituzionale del club a cui devono attenersi tutti i componenti del comitato. La direzione e dovere del Manager e la politica di gestione o linea di condotta e responsabilita del comitato. Quando una persona stata incaricata di dirigere, it comitato deve dargli possibility di svolgere la mansione. Ogni membro del comitato ha un "dovere di cura, capacita e diligenza", e nel recente passato c'e stata una chiara evidenza di uno spostamento verso piu alti livelli di cura, capacita e diligenza richiesti al comitato.

• Il comitato deve prendere ragionevoli misure in modo da porsi nella posizione di guidare e controllare la direzione del Club.

• I componenti del comitato non possono esimersi da queste responsabilita rimanendo passivi; essi devono perlomeno avere una, se pur rudimentale, conoscenza della natura degli affari del club.

• Il comitato deve essere certo che adeguate procedure di contabilita e di controllo siano applicate.

• I componenti del comitato dovrebbero avere almeno una conoscenza basica di come ci6 funziona, cosi come possedere una minima conoscenza della contabilita.

• Devono farsi sicuri che il club sia solvente.

• Devono partecipare a tutte le riunioni del comitato.

• Devono saper riconoscere ogni conflitto di interesse e sapere come risolverlo.

• Devono fare use appropriato delle informazioni del club.

Per evitare questa responsabilita personale, la

miglior cosa a quella di essere coinvolto attivamente. Ma coinvolgersi attivamente non significa partecipare in tutte le attivita giornaliere.

Significa invece avere piena conoscenza del club e di come opera. La non osservanza dell'Art. 7.2 del "Duty, Diligence and Care of Committee" potrebbe portare ad una multa fino a 200.000 dollari.

Pertanto, quando qualcuno intende candidarsi per una posizione net comitato, deve considerare quanto sopra detto, ma pia importante a la responsabilita che i soci hanno quando devono scegliere un candidato per essere rappresentati nel comitato. Ci6 mi porta a considerare it punto 8 dell'agenda di quest'anno e la ragione per cui io avevo proposto che i membri del nostro comitato fossero ridotti a non pia di sette (7). lo credo fortemente che sia assolutamente essenziale che i soci votino per chi essi credano che li rappresenti meglio. Cio sotto la presente costituzione sembra che non avvenga poiche a sempre difficile arrivare a tredici (13) candidati e conseguentemente, come si a visto negli anni passati, it comitato a usualmente eletto senza voto per mancanza di nomine. Inoltre, in seguito all'assunzione di un "General Manager", gli incarichi devolti al comitato sono stati sostanzialmente ridotti e sette membri potrebbero essere pia che sufficienti.

Vorrei esprimere un caldo benvenuto al nostro nuovo General Manager, Mr Keith Jackson. Egli viene da noi con un bagaglio di esperienza nel settore dell'ospitalita e, soltanto dopo un solo mese nella sua

mansione, gia si cominciano a vedere i primi risultati.

Grazie Keith, mi hai reso la vita gia molto pia facile.

I miei sinceri ringraziamenti vadano a tutte le magnifiche persone che compongono la nostra comunita, cominciando dal nostro presidente Giancarlo Peruzzo; un altro uomo leale e devoto come lui difficile trovarlo. Grazie ai miei colleghi del comitato per un fantastico anno di lavoro; abbiamo lavorato assieme affrontando le molte sfide come una squadra compatta. Grazie ai sotto-comitati, alle associazioni regionali, alle Signore Ausiliarie, ai lavoratori volontari, ai dipendenti del Club; in particolare al personale dell'ufficio col quale io ho lavorato assieme (Tony, Marina, Florence e Mario), grazie per aver lavorato motto di pia di quanto it dovere vi richiedeva.

Grazie a tutti quei soci che cosi fedelmente danno it loro sostegno al club. Contiamo sul vostro continuo supporto e speriamo di vedervi molto spesso nei locali del Club. Ed in fine un grande ringraziamento alla mia meravigliosa famiglia che realmente mi appoggia e sempre mi incoraggia.

TREASURER' S REPORT Dear Members, This is my report as Treasurer of the Veneto Club for year ended 2003, which shows an end result of $271,177.00 loss.

I will attempt to try and explain how this result has come about. We had an Insurance blowout of $198,000.00 for the 2002/2003 year, as compared to $98 000.00 for the previous 2001/2002). We had a down turn in gaming profit of $74,000.00 caused by gaming areas becoming non smoking (approx 12% slightly lower than that of the state average) and this trend is likely to continue. The rest of the loss is probably attributed to just not getting it right. What I mean by this is management changes, staff movements, people sitting in comfort zones and unable to achieve proper margins and cost controls in some areas of the club.

I must say that over the past year every effort has been made to "tighten our belt" and spend wisely. We have revised all contracts and services provided to the club and with careful scrutineering and vigilance, by our Office Manager Tony Squillacioti, have been able to save in most areas.

We have secured new insurances and reduced our cost by approximately $100,000.00 for the 2003/2004 insured period. With the introduction of new registers (Point of Sale) we will create proper stock and management control, as well as providing loyalty rewards to our members, this will give us an incentive to patronize the club even more and be proud to be members of the best Club in Victoria.

The appointment of a General Manager of the Club was a new and bold step. I feel sure this will provide an offering and service to our members and guests to be proud of.

Since the introduction of gaming, and the explosive profits made by the machines ("Le Vachette") I believe that in the recent past we may have forgotten how difficult it is to make and save money. We have become comfortable with past views that the Club has plenty of money. This mentality is hard to change. However, it is the most important part of the change, because the business environment is not getting easier. All our Members, Sub Committees and Associations must remember that competition is good and it keeps us on our toes.

We are a large club, we have huge fixed costs and competition is often hard against smaller clubs or venues, which may operate with a very high percentage of volunteer labour. Club loyalty must prevail over small amounts of dollar differences, which the club will give back tenfold to its members.

There are many changes that this New Year will bring and many more in the coming years in our endeavour to "get it right". The cost of this may be that we may have to forego some traditions, but nevertheless, changes necessary to improve the viability of the club in the future.

Relazione del Tesoriere Cari Soci, Vi presento la mia relazione come Tesoriere del Veneto Club, per l'anno 2003, the rivela una perdita di $271.177 per l'anno finanziario.

Cerchero di spiegare come si a arrivati a tale risultato. Prima di tutto, abbiamo avuto un aumento imprevisto nei costi delle polizze di assicurazione di $198.000 per l'anno 2002/2003 (in confronto ai $98.000 dell'anno precedente, cioe, it 2001/2002).

delle sale da gioco che deriva dal divieto di fumo nelle sale stesse. Lo stesso effetto si e risentito in tutto lo stato del Victoria e la nostra perdita risulta di circa ii 12% in meno della media statale.

Ho previsto un probabile continuo scemare di reddito dai giochi d'azzardo. Il resto della perdita dei guadagni si puo attribuire, molto probabilmente, al fatto che questa volta proprio le cose non sono andate bene. Cioe, mi riferisco ai cambiamenti di direzione, agli spostamenti dei dipendenti, al fatto che ci sono persone che operano in una zona di agio e che non riescono a ridurre costi nelle varie funzioni del Club.

Devo ammettere che in quest'ultimo anno, ogni sforzo e stato fatto per cercare di risparmiare e di spendere con cautela. Abbiamo riveduto ogni contratto e servizio reso al Club e con attenta e scrupolosa cura e vigilanza da parte del nostro Capoufficio, Tony Squillacioti, siamo riusciti a risparmiare in quasi tutti i settori. Abbiamo trovato nuove polizze di assicurazione che ci hanno permesso di ridurre it costo di circa $100.000 per il periodo assicurativo dell'anno 2003/2004. Con l'introduzione dei nuovi registratori di cassa ai punti di vendita, potremo mantenere un vero controllo di inventario sulla nostra merce e sui nostri servizi.

Abbiamo assunto la facile idea che il Club abbia molti soldi. Questo atteggiamento e molto difficile da cambiarsi, ma si deve cambiarlo poiche gli affari diventano sempre piu difficili. Tutti i nostri Soci, i Sotto-Comitati e le Associazioni devono rendersi conto che la competizione sul mercato a una cosa buona che ci tiene attenti e pronti, ma il nostro e un grande club ed ha delle grosse spese fisse e la competizione con delle piccole associazioni, spesso condotte da lavoro volontario, e molto dura. La fedelta al nostro club dovrebbe comunque prevalere anche di fronte al risparmio di pochi dollari che in ultima analisi ii nostro club ci restituisce decuplicata.

Ci saranno molti cambiamenti che vedremo in questo nuovo anno e molti altri ci saranno negli anni venturi nel tentativo di raddrizzare gli affari. Il costo di questi cambiamenti potrebbe essere quello di avere la precedenza su alcune tradizioni, ma comunque i cambiamenti saranno necessari per permettere al club di indirizzarsi verso il futuro.

Manager's Report It is with great pleasure that I start a new phase in my life with the Veneto Club after working in the tourism and hospitality industry for over 30 years. I hope that the experience and skills gathered over this time will be of great use to the Club.

Following the completion of degrees in Business Studies and Marketing I worked in Florence, Italy for 12 years in several marketing positions. I moved to Australia with my wife Jane 20 years ago where I have since owned several restaurants, ran a pub, managed a four star hotel, managed promotions and advertising for Mt. Buller Resort, managed the Ski Club of Victoria and the Warrnambool R.S.L. and learnt to ride horses.

From The Ladies Auxiliary The purpose of the Ladies Auxiliary is to find ways of raising money in order to contribute to Charities and Deserving Groups that work in our Community, and also to assist in various ways to benefit the Club and our Members who regularly use our facilities, in particular the Sunday Night Family Restaurant in the Sala San Marco. This could not be done without the ladies who come along every week and generously volunteer their time and effort on both Saturdays and Sundays. Thank you for your continued loyalty.

Bulletin Zebras Soccer Club

The 2003 Premier League Season commenced under coach Mr. Harry Chalkitis and assistant Mr. Jim Kalambokis, with Mr. Sean Keogh as Goal Keepers Trainer, along with Team Manager Mr. Joe Sala and his assistant Mr. Adriano Giansalvo.

The season got under way slightly better than last year, in that we have performed relatively well away but have been disappointing at our home games.

In the Italian Cup played prior to the commencement of the season, we were second to Essendon Royals, with Ben Harbinson being the top goal scorer for the tournament.

I believe that our players can perform a lot better providing they fully dedicate themselves to the Club, the Committee, and staff, and particularly to all our supporters.

Tennis 01; BBQ - Club Championship

To mimic that well-known celebrity, "What a big six months it has been in Tennis!"

The last tennis report covered the period to November, 2002. Since then we have had the completion of the junior's NEJTA spring 2002 season, and the night, NENTG spring 2002 season.

Plus of course, the summer mens' handicap "Belli e Brutti" competition.

In recent times we have been going through a period of "changing of the guard" especially in the administration, organizational and maintenance personnel of the (tennis) club. Romeo Crema has taken over from Maurice Poloni in organizing and running the night competition. Julie Anania has taken over much of the Juniors' portfolio from Elena McCrone, and with reduced numbers on the Committee, it has meant that we each had to take on a greater "leadership role."

JUNIORS: NEJTA — In the Spring, 2002 season, the juniors continued to perform strongly. Nine teams competed, (5 girls teams and 4 boys teams), and seven of these teams made the fmals. Congratulations to the Girls Section 10 and Girls section 19 for winning through.

NIGHT COMP: NENTG — Spring, 2002 Season 19 teams competed in the night competition. (6 Mens, 7 Veteran Mens, 4 Womens and 2 Mixed Teams). Once again, this season proved to be successful for the "Big V".

One of the true measures of the standing of a Tennis club is how it performs in Pennant (Victorian Tennis Series Competition). With the highly professional coaching academy (VIDA) operating at our club, we have seen what it is possible to achieve in this competition. To be successful, however, we need to achieve a certain degree of continuity and consolidation, areas that we, as a club, are still learning about. This is no easy task — it requires commitment from players, coaches, parents and committee people. No pennant teams were entered in 2003, but we hope to resume better than ever in 2004.

Not too many tennis clubs can claim to have bar and restaurant facilities available to them. The club encourages the tennis members to utilize these facilities.

Gaming Manager's Message Dear Members and Friends, As this is my first annual report allow me to introduce myself to those whom I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting. My name is Paul D'Angelo, I have been employed at the Veneto Club for the past two years as the Assistant Gaming Manager, and more recently have been promoted to "Gaming Manager".

My experience within the hospitality sector varies from working in some of the biggest hotel groups in Australia, Race Courses and most of all clubs.

Managing the Club's Gaming Room this financial year will be quite difficult as new "No Smoking" legislation is now in place. It is rewarding to see that the effects of the legislation only impacted the club by a 12% loss in revenue whilst the average Victorian drop was 18%. Under the circumstances I am sure that with all the ongoing support from our members and friends that once again this year will prove to be another success. By now most members will have seen the Rialto bar renovations, with that the new smoking lounge is now finished, the gaming lounge has also seen some attention with new four 1 cent

The Clubs quarterly News letter, has almost come to an end and I stress that all members should read the Veneto Club News for upcoming events, discount prices, and entry forms to participate in our "all new" exciting promotions, such as "Linen and Manchester Hamper Give Away" and in July "Voucher Madness". My aim is to ensure that the club's facilities stay competitive to the ever-changing market trends, providing the Italian community, as well as all other communities, with a fantastic venue, that supports the older generation and attracts the younger generation, "Our Future".

Further pleasing news, the Gaming Room is still Number one in the Tatts Service Excellence Program.

This program is designed for all venues across Victoria who compete with each other in service.

Each month we receive results from our mystery customers, who determine the top venues in service.

Finally, we look forward to having a fantastic year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all Staff, Committee, and Members for their continued support.

May I congratulate Mr Anthony Canil on his new appointment as Food and Beverage Manager, and thank him for leaving the Gaming room at a high standard, for myself to continue in this role.

Veneto Squash Club Bert Caneva President/Treasurer

Ron Barbano, Nat Surace and John Coleman, all three members have played more than 500 Pennant Matches for the Club.

The Club competes in the Club Circuit Division of the Victorian Squash Racquets Association. Two Pennant Seasons are held each year; Spring and Autumn.

As we went to press in 2002, the Club's top team was leading the A-3 Grade competition and went on to play off in the Final. Unfortunately they were narrowly beaten on points in the Final but gained promotion to the A-2 Grade for the Spring Season 2002. Anthony Bucello and his team are to be congratulated on their fine performance.

The Club entered 4 teams for the Spring Pennant.

All teams were competitive but none reached the finals.

Captains and Best Players for the respective teams were as follows: Best & Fairest Captain Grade Brad Grinter Anthony Bucello A-2 Marc Odorico Tony Panaccio B-3 Richard Lyons Richard Lyons C-4 Lou Dal Santo John Coleman E Autumn 2003 Currently the Club is competing with four teams in the Autumn 2003 Pennant season. The Club had entered five teams but were forced to withdraw the A2 Grade team due to the unavailability of a number of players.

Captains of the respective teams were as follows: Mario Siliato B-3 Grade Nat Surace D- 1 Grade John Cassar D-2 Grade John Coleman E Grade As we go to press, the best placed team is Nat Surace's D-I team which is well clear on top of the competition. A Champions Pennant appears certain for this team.

E Grade winner Dominic Nicolazzo, congratulated by his Bentleigh Club opponent.

embra quasi impossibile che siano gia passati sei mesi, ma nel frattempo abbiamo raccolto tanti buoni risultati. Abbiamo it ricordo di tante gare di bocce, inclusa la grande gara a quadretta. Abbiamo fatto una visita al Marconi Club con un autobus pieno di 64 persone. Da Mt Gambier (SA), it Lunedi di Pasqua (Pasquetta) sono venuti giocatori di bocce per competere nella gara alla "Raffa" alla quale hanno partecipato pill di 60 persone. Dopo c'e stato un grande BBQ. Nella gara serale vi erano a competere pia di 80 persone. Un numero cosi alto non si era mai avuto nel passato.

Fra i giocatori dello "State League", tre sono del Veneto Club che si sono qualificati per la gara Nazionale che avra luogo in Queensland. Questi sono: A.Parlato, V.Brecevic e E.Colla. Anche fra le donne abbiamo avuto una che si a qualificata per la Nazionale.

Super Mixed - Bocce Quadretta La competizione "Super Mixed" di bocce ha avuto luogo al Veneto Club di Bulleen con Bertocchi Smalgoods, Pantalica Cheese Co. e Veneto Club Tatt's Pokies sponsors maggiori; Veneto Club, Montagna Homes e Costante Enginering sponsors minori. La competizione ha visto la partecipazione di 60 giocatori, it primo fine settimana di marzo.

Risultato finale: 1° Valter Brecevic, 2° Mario Angeloni, 3° Emilio Colla, 4° Giovanni D'Alessandro.

Nei due giorni successivi it monte premi era di $3500 e quindi si e assistito ad una forte competitivita. Le squadre provenienti, dai van Stati e dalle provincie hanno trovato difficili i campi di bccce del Veneto Club e sono rimasti delusi del loro risultato, mentre i giocatori locali hanno dominato fm dall' inizio.

Quando i due gruppi (round robin) sono stati decisi, 4 squadre attendevano i risultati per i piazzamenti alla finale. La semi finale fra le squadre in quarta e seconda posizione e durata 3 ore. Punteggio finale 13-7. Nella finale si e visto un bellissimo gioco di qualita.

Femminile 2002/2003 Non so trovare le parole adatte per esprimere la mia grande soddisfazione. Anche quest anno posso dire 6 terminato con tante vittorie e piazzamenti, non abbiamo tante giocatrici, ma mi sento in dovere di congratularmi con tutte, non solo la serie (a) ma anche la serie (b).

DON'T GET STUCK WITH BAD TENANTS! When discussing real estate no doubt you have heard people talking about bad experiences that they have encountered with problem tenants in their investment properties. Or you may have seen terrible stories in the media about tenants "trashing" properties, not paying rent and leaving Landlords out of pocket and devastated by such an experience.

Although this is a reality for some landlords much hardship can be alleviated by taking careful steps to ensure that your interests are truly protected. When leasing a property a Landlord has generally two choices: (1) Manage the property themselves (2) Engage an Estate Agent to lease and manage the property on their behalf.

For Landlords who choose to manage the property themselves the risks are high as they cannot access many of the tenancy databases that record bad tenants. Many of these databases are only accessible by licensed Estate Agents, which means that private Landlords may take on tenants that are recorded as undesirable tenants. If a tenant moves in and then fails to fulfill their responsibilities many private Landlords are confused by the legislation which dictates what action they can take to evict the tenant and recover money for rent, clean up and repairs For those who elect to use a mainstream real estate agency they are certainly more protected however need to be very selective to ensure that the Property Managers who are taking care of them are sincerely dedicated to protecting their interests. One major concern with some agencies is that Property Managers are paid incentive commissions on the number of properties that they lease. How does this affect a Landlord?

Property Managers are driven by bonus dollars and will do anything to let multiple numbers of properties. This can mean that the processing of applications becomes tardy and any tenant will do, as long as it results in another commission for the Property Manager.

Comunita Montana dei Sette Comuni di Asiago Sezione di Melbourne L'anno 2003 e stato molto attivo, le feste sono sempre ben rappresentate, non solo dai nostri soci ma anche da amici e simpatizzanti della nostra comunita.

Gerrietville week-end 22 - 23 Febbraio.

La serata italiana organizzata dal Sig. Bruno Spiller e stata fantastica: una buona cena, it coro di Myrtleford, it Gruppo Folcloristico Trentino con musica e balletti, una ricca lotteria e tanta bella musica per ballare. Questa 6 l'inquadratura della festa, ma ancora piit importante era la possibility di aiutare la raccolta di fondi per "Camp Quality".

Per it Picnic Annuale del 9 marzo l'idea nuova e riuscita bene. Molti bambini hanno partecipato alla competizione di pittura e "face painting" (pittura del viso), con carta e pennelli e si sono dimostrati molto attivi. Hanno presentato delle bellissime pitture da rendere difficile la scelta della migliore.

La piccola Olivia Mehlfeld (Guglielmi) ha vinto it primo premio, it secondo e andato a Jennifer Cora. Tante belle faccette pitturate da Ashlea Rizzato mettevano tanta allegria e ci siamo divertiti molto.

Anche le "frittole" offerte durante la competizione erano, senza dubbio, molto buone. I1 titolo di Re 6 stato assegnato al Sig. Dino Rigoni (Sanga).

La Serata Familiare del 6 aprile era stata organizzata per incoraggiare i giovani a partecipare assieme ai genitori , ai soci e agli amici. La festa e riuscita abbastanza bene.

Ente Vicentini nel Mondo MELBOURNE Noi Vicentini di Melbourne alla vigilia del 20.mo anniversario della fondazione del nostro Ente in esso ci ritroviamo come in una vera famiglia. Ci incontriamo spesso per celebrare e vivere le nostre origini. Negli scorsi 12 mesi la partecipazione alle escursioni e alle feste organizzate dal comitato a stata molto alta, tanto che ho pensato che it messaggio di auguri per la Santa Pasqua del Ministro degli Italiani nel mondo, On Mirko Tremaglia, fosse rivolto proprio a noi. Si 6 infatti espresso nei nostri riguardi con la seguente frase: "Abbiamo arricchito it mondo con quel patrimonio che a la straordinaria capacita della nostra gente, voi siete oggi, in tutto e per tutto uguali agli Italiani in Italia".

Ci sono voluti ben 46 anni per riconoscerci it diritto di voto e la doppia cittadinanza. II 2003 ci porta finalmente Ia possibilita di esercitare it nostro diritto di voto con it referendum del 15/06/03. Resta pur sempre it far conoscere agli Italiani in Italia "l'Altra Italia" e consolidare i legami tra la madre patria e le comunita Italiane nel mondo.

La Regione Veneto, ormai da tanti anni si fa sempre pia attiva nei confronti delle Comunita Venete nel mondo organizando conferenze, corsi universitari e soggiorni sia per i giovani, sia per gli anziani. Per noi di Melbourne, a fine Novembre di quest' anno Ia Regione Veneto ha organizzato la "Settimana Veneta" che include la presentazione dal vivo della "Partita a Scacchi di Marostica". Dettagli pia precisi saranno pubblicati prossimamente sulla stampa italiana e sui quotidiani locali. Il Veneto Club sta raccogliendo le adesioni di coloro che desiderano far parte dello spettacolo come volontari. Ho l'impressione che si stia andando nella giusta direzione nei nostri confronti e spero proprio che vi sia un maggior interesse da parte dei nostri giovani per tutto cip che non solo l'Italia ci p&p offrire, ma anche i vantaggi che ci vengono dalla nuova Europa. Siamo tutti reduci del conflitto iracheno: ci consoli it fatto che, se con le nostre tasse dobbiamo sostenerne i costi, abbiamo contribuito a liberare un popolo dalla tirannia di un despota. Quello che auguro al mondo e che questa sia l'uttima guerra per sempre.

Vicentini grazie al Cielo stiamo mantenendo un buon numero di iscritti e tutti sempre pronti a partecipare a tutte le funzioni che it comitato organizza. Sento come mio piacevole dovere it ringraziare tutti i soci, it comitato e i volontari che ci aiutano in ogni occasione. Associazione Padovani nel Mondo Inc. Convegno delle Associazioni di Padovani Durante l'ultima edizione dell'Eco del Veneto, 2002 la nostra Associazione stava organizzando it Convegno Biennale della Padovani nel Mondo. Si 6 svolto a Melbourne il Sesto raduno nazionale con delegazioni giunte da Adelaide, Sydney e Perth.

II VI convegno nazionale delle Associazioni Padovani nel Mondo ha avuto luogo a Melbourne durante il week-end dall'8 al 10 Novembre, 2002. Vi hanno partecipato 65 delegati da Sydney, Adelaide e Perth. Tutti gli incontri in programma, dalla cena danzante di benvenuto nella sala Venezia del Veneto Club la sera di venerdi 8 Novembre, alla visita della citta e al BBQ-picnic di Domenica, hanno avuto un carattere amichevole, sereno e gioioso.

La cena di gala ha costituito la manifestazione piu importante, con gli interventi dei presidenti. Nel mio ruolo di segretaria dell'Associazione, ho presentato gli ospiti: it presidente del Veneto Club, Giancarlo Peruzzo, i presidenti delle Associazioni: Luigi Cecchin di Melbourne, Ivano Ceccato di Sydney, Anna Picozzi di Adelaide, Francesco Cecchele di Perth.

Sorpresa e viva emozione ha suscitato la lettura da parte di un giovane del Comitato, Con Antonello, di un breve saggio sulla "Storia di Padova" preparato da Aaron Cecchin, un ragazzo di 14 anni che ha scoperto con orgoglio le sue radici padovane e ne ha fatto motivo di una ricerca culturale.

Il presidente Luigi Cecchin ha rivolto ai commensali un saluto caloroso, seguito da una panoramica sulla storia dell'Associazione e alcune riflessioni dense di significato e appropriate alla circostanza di "ricordare i tempi dell'amicizia, della fratellanza e festeggiare un sentimento unico". Luigi si 6 detto ottimista sul futuro delle nostre Associazioni perche i giovani di origine padovana hanno un fondo di cultura e di sentimenti che ha un forte richiamo. "Vedo un futuro distinto ed imminente per le nostre associazioni" - ha concluso it presidente. - "Dobbiamo incoraggiare i giovani a sostenere le nostre associazioni, a mantenere la nostra cultura, le nostre abitudini, quel carattere di unicita che ci distingue."

Dopo i saluti dei presidenti delle Associazioni ospiti e del presidente del Veneto Club vi 6 stato lo scambio dei doni. La serata proseguiva con una deliziosa improvvisata: la Signora Antonietta Carraro

recitava, in puro dialetto, una simpatica poesia che esaltava le bellezze della citta di Padova. Gli applausi del pubblico erano forti e spontanei.

Chiudendo la parte ufficiale, mi sono ricordata un motto popolare adattato alla circostanza: it proverbio dice "Dietro ogni uomo di successo c'e una grande donna" e, davanti ad un Comitato di successo c'e un grande presidente."

Nelle giornate di sabato e domenica i visitatori/ospiti degli altri Stati, accompagnati dagli amici di Melbourne, hanno apprezzato le bellezze della citta e hanno festeggiato l'incontro con un picnic al Veneto Club, tanta musica, allegria e la promessa di rivederci tutti insieme ad Adelaide nel 2004.

II 20 Luglio, 2003 nella sala San Marco del Veneto Club si terra I'assemblea generale con elezioni del nuovo comitato, e rinnovo della tessera.

Un sincero ringraziamento a tutti i soci per la loro costante partecipazione.

Desideriamo ringraziare il Veneto Club per il supporto che da alla nostra Associazione.

Associazione TREVISANI nel Mondo Inc. Un altro anno a passato e, dando uno sguardo a quello che e successo, per l'Associazione Trevisani nel Mondo net 2002, possiamo ancora una volta essere soddisfatti, almeno dal punto di vista sociale.

Anche quest'anno furono organizzate le solite attivita con l'aggiunta di un pranzo, molto ben riuscito, a Werribee dove la Trevisani conta parecchie famiglie originarie dalla "Marta Gioiosa".

Naturalmente it culmine delle attivita sociali fu l'incontro a Brisbane di quasi 1000 persone in occasione del V Congresso Nazionale A.T.M. Dall'Italia vennero 120 ospiti con vane autorita politiche e religiose. Da tutta l'Australia ci furono rappresentanti delle vane Sezioni e da Melbourne eravamo una novantina. A detta degli organizzatori la nostra comitiva fu la pill allegra, la pill disciplinata e la pill entusiasta. Approfittando del Congresso molti per la prima volta ebbero modo di visitare bene Brisbane e dintorni e fare soste a Noosa e Fraser Island. Andata e ritorno in aereo e visite a luoghi interessanti in lussuose corrier°.

Al Congresso si discusser° le origini, it presente e progetti per l'avvenire. Come\sempre la spina che stenta ad essere sradicata 6 la quetione giovani.

Sara questo uno dei progetti a cui ledicheremo parecchio tempo per il futuro. All assemblea generale verso la fine del mese di febbraio ci fu una novita a cui col tempo ci abitueremo ad accettare.

Prernettiamo che la nostra Associazione ha avuto inizio nel settembre del 1973. Quindi 30 anni fa. Fin dall'inizio fecero parte del primo nucleo quattro soci che tutt'ora sono attivamente coinvolti. Essi sono Peter Ferronato, Oreste Barro, Rino Bergamin e Bepi Crema. Dopo quasi trent'anni di vita attiva come membri del Direttivo, Peter Ferronato e Oreste Barro quest'anno cedettero it posto a nuovi membri.

Tutti i soci sono grati a Peter e Oreste per it contributo che hanno dato con generosity e costanza in tutti questi anni. Dopo una carriera di quasi 29 anni, interrotta solo per due anni a motivi di salute, il leggendario Bepi Crema decise di cedere it suo posto di presidente dell'Associazione ad un'altra persona. Pur rimanendo nel Direttivo, ricuso di essere rieletto presidente. Anche a Bepi i soci sono grati per it lavoro svolto in tutti questi anni, soprattutto agli inizi quando bisognava

mettere basi solide e sicure.

Al posto di Bepi Crema, come nuovo presidente, fu eletto Andrea Bettio da Hoppers Crossing ma nativo di Paese, vicino a Treviso. Il posto di Peter e Oreste fu preso da Giuseppe Brunato da Werribee e da Giuseppe Bolzonello da Bulleen. Tutti i membri del Direttivo si sono impegnati a continuare la loro collaborazione sempre uniti e sempre per it bene dei soci.

Fino ad ora abbiamo organizzato due feste: it picnic e la festa in onore del patrono di Treviso, San Liberale. Sia il picnic che la festa del 27 aprile furono un gran successo. Una volta si diceva che "chi ben comincia 6 a meta dell'opera ". Abbiamo cominciato bene, ci auguriamo di continuare bene.

Dicevo all'inizio che socialmente il 2002 fu un anno di successi. E vero. Tutte le feste che abbiamo organizzato hanno avuto successo. Finanziariamente le cose non sono state cosi floride. Non che ci siamo messi nei guai dal punto di vista finanziario!

Abbiamo un tesoriere in Roberto Pamio che sa quello che fa e se la barca fa acqua sa come ricorrere ai ripari! Abbiamo donato migliaia di dollari per van appelli, sia dall'Argentina che dall'Italia in occasione del terremoto del Molise. Il costo delle feste aumentato abbastanza fortemente e quindi aumentando le spese diminuiscono i profitti. Noi non vogliamo che i soci ne risentano per questo, quindi abbiamo cercato di "starci dentro anche se un po' stretti "... In conclusione, niente strapazzi, niente rischi inutili, ma cercando di soddisfare i soci e lavorare sempre di pill per il bene di tutti. Con questi propositi ci accingiamo ad affrontare it 2003.

Naturalmente un grazie al Direttivo del Veneto Club che ci da la possibility di usare le facility di cui esso dispone per le nostre feste.

Anche quest'anno noi veronesi di Melbourne, anche se siamo una piccola comunita, abbiamo svolto le solite funzioni con molto successo. Come al solito e stata celebrata "Santa Lucia" con un ricco picnic e molti sono stati i partecipanti. Nel mese di marzo abbiamo avuto la serata a base di gnocchi che, come di consueto, al Veneto Club sono squisiti ed abbondanti.

Con piacere avevamo in sala, quali ospiti, it presidente del Veneto Club Giancarlo Peruzzo e Signora Paola.

Tutti erano entusiasti della serata e ci auguriamo che i nostri soci ed amici siano sempre cosi numerosi. Ora it prossimo incontro si terra sempre al Veneto Club it giorno 3 di agosto per celebrare la Festa della Famiglia.

Fra i prossimi incontri ve ne e uno molto importante ed una gita a Griffith nel mese di settembre. Per chi fosse interessato puo mettersi in contatto con noi.
