NICHOLAS KOTSIRAS MP MEMBER FOR BULLEEN

It gives me great pleasure to send my warmest greetings to members and friends of the Veneto Club. , Victoria's multicultural communities have been an integral part of the building of our State and an essential part of our cosmopolitan nature.

Victoria is indeed privileged to be home to a large Italian community which has had a prominent and enriching influence in Victoria's development. Your contribution to our social, economic and social life is worthy of recognition.

The Veneto Club was founded in 1967 and today is the largest Italian club in Australia.

Your aim to provide a meeting place for the Veneti of Melbourne; to provide facilities for all age groups and to provide a means whereby the Veneto culture and heritage can be expressed and appreciated not only by first generation arrivals in Australia, but also by future generations is what multiculturalism is all about.

The Club's huge appeal is evident by its membership base. There are many members not only from other regions of Italy but also from other cultures. I am indeed very proud to be a member of the Veneto Club.

The Victorian Opposition, under the leadership of Denis Napthine, is keen to continue to strengthen the very good relations that have been developed with the Italian community over the years.

I look forward to working very closely with the Veneto Club to ensure that it continues to grow in strength and scope.

I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate the President, Cavaliere Agostino Martini and all the members of his Committee for their commitment and hard work in meeting the needs of their members.

Relazione del Presidente Cay. Agostino Martini

Cari Soci, siamo giunti alla fine del nostro hanno finanziario e pertanto dobbiamo tirare le somme di quanto abbiamo fatto.

I lavori iniziati per la trasformazione della sala giochi sono terminati e sono stati conclusi con grande successo, come ogni socio puo constatare. Essi comprendono un elegante ascensore che da l'accesso anche al piano mezzanino oltre che a facilitare l'ingresso nella sala giochi e nella sala Venezia. Quest'ultima a stata corredata di un nuovo e piu moderno palco per l'orchestra. A questo punto dew ringraziare Leo Poli, Dino Belia e Ray Rostolis per it loro inestimabile lavoro svolto volontariamente a beneficio del Club.

Una cosa che ancora non sono riuscito a fare 6 l'ammodernamento della sala del Bar Rialto. Questa 6 una cosa che recta nel mio cuore e vorrei tanto che it nuovo comitato metta in agenda con priorita questo progetto.

Dal punto di vista finanziario debbo dire con mio rammarico che i frutti non sono stati cosi cospicui come nel passato. Tutti mi conoscono per uno che ha sempre fatto di tutto perche l'interesse del club non venga mai passato in seconda posizione.

Purtroppo ci sono anche altre volonta che

non possono essere misconosciute e i risultati non sono pertanto gli stessi. Pero tutto non e male e un risultato positivo si comunque ottenuto. Certamente se non avessimo avuto la sfortuna di dover cambiare it manager e, pertanto di rimanere senza una adeguata direzione per un tempo troppo lungo, le cose, dal mio punto di vista, potrebbero essere andate molto meglio.

Le attivita del club si sono comunque svolte come sempre ed hanno avuto meritati successi a premio del lavoro di tutti. Posso menzionare al proposito la festa per l'anniversario dei 50 anni di emigrazione di molti dei nostri soci, it capo d'anno del 2000, la festa della Repubblica Italiana e it campionato australiano di bocce. Queste sono solo alcune delle molte attivita che si sono svolte al Club con grande successo.

Il "Bulleeen Zebras" che gestisce to sport del calcio al nostro club e stato parte integrale ed essenziale delle nostre attivita sportive e pertanto e doveroso un sincero ringraziamento a detto comitato e ai suoi dirigenti.

Ringrazio pertanto tutti i soci che non hanno mancato di sostenere it nostro club sia con la loro partecipazione e sia con la contribuzione di lavoro volontario.

Con la fine di questo anno finanziario, it decimo della mia presidenza, rinnovo gli auguri per un grande futuro al nostro club e ringrazio tutti i van sottocomitati, sportivi e sociali, che come sempre hanno dato vita e lustro al nostro sodalizio. Un sodalizio che mi auguro continuera nel segno

Report Dear members, we have reached the end of our financial year and we must now take account of what has been done.

The work we undertook on transforming the games room has finished and was a great success, as all our members can see. The work comprises an elegant lift that gives access to the mezzanine floor as well as facilitating entry to both the games room and the Venezia room. The latter has also been fitted with a new and more updated stage for the orchestra. At this point I would like to thank Leo Poli, Dino Belia and Ray Rostolis for their invaluable and voluntary work for the benefit of the Club.

What I still haven't managed to do is to modernise the Bar Rialto room. This project is something that I would really like the new committee to make a priority in the agenda.

From a financial point of view I regret to acknowledge that our earnings have not been as substantial as in the past. Everyone knows me as someone who has always put the Club's interests first. It's only too true that there are also other powers beyond control that cannot be ignored and therefore the results are not the same.

Notwithstanding this a positive result has been obtained. Certainly, if we hadn't had the misfortune of having to change the manager and, as a result having to be without appropriate direction for too long a period, things, from my point of view, could have gone- much better.

per usual and have had great success thanks to the work of everyone. I can mention the celebration of 50 years of emigration for many of our members, the 2000 new year, the celebration in honour of the Italian Republic and the Australian bocce championships. These are only some of the many successful activities that have taken place in our Club.

The "Bulleen Zebras" that manage the soccer at our club have been both an essential and integral part of our sporting activities and for this reason I gratefully extend my thanks to the committee and their leaders.

I thank all the members that have never failed to assist the Club whether it be with their participation or their contribution of voluntary work.

As always I thank all those who have understood me and have given me support and I hope, for the benefit of our Club, that the members are able to appoint a new committee that can work for the best interests of the Club despite the various tendencies to personalism that too often have attempted to emerge.

With the end of this financial year, the tenth year of my presidency, I renew my wishes for a prosperous future at our Club and I thank all the subcommittees, sporting and social, who have always given life and distinction to our Association. An Association that I hope will continue to thrive through friendship and joint responsibility, the only way that can bring us with certainty to a definite success.

In my committee, as always I would like to thank: The "Ladies Auxiliary", the Bingo volunteers; Mario Bonis, Angelo Bolzanello, Davide Barbieri, Alfonso Pozzebon, Luciano Sella and Bianca Martini; all the employees of the Club including those from the Office and from the Games Room; the Financial Committee and the Office Bearers, and all our members.

From the First Vice-President Alfonso Pozzebon

It has been my pleasure to serve the members of the Veneto Club over the past twelve months and I would like to sincerely thank all the members who supported me at last year's election.

I would like to thank the president cay. Agostino Martini and the committee for their support, co-operation and commitment over this period.

In my capacity as vice president of the Veneto Club, I also act as the liaison officer for both the Bulleen Zebras and the Veneto Junior Soccer sub-committees, a role which I have thoroughly enjoyed, and I would like to thank cay. Rino Tessarotto, Michael Catalano (president of the zebras) and Egon Schille (junior secretary) for their commitment, dedication, and promotion of soccer. My sincere thanks

go also to all the ladies and gentlemen that give up their time voluntarily at both levels to work in the kiosks and gates, and to the mother and fathers that help in performing other various duties on match days.

On behalf of the Veneto Club, congratulations on a job well done.

Once again, I encourage all the Veneto Club members to support soccer at our premises and I look forward to seeing you at our matches.

From the Vice-President and Liaison Officer for the "Sports Centre"

The Sports Centre and Gymnasium have been functioning for approximately two and a half years now and during this time we have seen consistent growth in all areas. For the period ending April 2000 the Gymnasium had 599 Memberships and catered to more than 1,500 casual visits. We are very pleased to welcome more Veneto Club members who have recently joined our Gymnasium. With the aim of expanding our services we have recently commenced "Body Pump" classes. Body Pump is a new and exciting way to increase your fitness and members of all ages are giving Body Pump a go. However, in order for our Gymnasium to continue to be successful we require your support.

Remember, all Veneto Club Members receive a discount.

Our basketball court is relatively busy and firstly we must offer our congratulations to our Club teams who have achieved great success over the past two years and we are proud of their achievements. Our Club Netball team has also been very successful and won the Grand Final last season and we congratulate them on their success.

Our Club teams are always looking for new males and females to play basketball at the Veneto Club.

To all the Coaches who so generously give their time, your efforts are appreciated. Congratulations to the Melbourne Falcons, the Falcons this year not only won the Australian Volleyball League State Championships but also the National Championships. At a ceremony recently the Falcons presented their Trophy to me so that it can be displayed at the Club premises. The Veneto Club is proud to be associated with the Melbourne Falcons. We look forward to the return of our

other Club Champions, the Melbourne Bulleen Boomers. Last season the Boomers attracted large crowds and generated much excitement at the Veneto Club and we all appreciate your support.

The Boomers reached the Semi-Finals and we wish them even greater success for the coming season.

Our Sports Centre's reputation for hosting major sports events grows as does our list of home teams and we have received good exposure through our various sports with more and more people becoming aware of our Club and facilities. We now play host to three Australian Basketball Association teams, The N.E. Melbourne Giants, The Blackburn Vikings and the Coburg Giants.

These teams play here at the Veneto Club most weekends and this is a great opportunity to see some of the country's finest basketballers. Finally I would like to express my sincere thanks once again to Daniel Morton who has been the guiding force of the Gymnasium and associated sports and his ongoing commitment is appreciated and I thank him.

The "Sports Spring Carnival" was held again last year and I am grateful to those Members of the Committee and the other voluntary helpers who

ub - Melbourne - Giug assisted us throughout the day. All participants from the various Clubs enjoyed this event.

Another extremely important event is the acceptance of our Club Soccer ground as an "Olympic Training Venue". Some time ago after having become associated with SOCOG and after many deliberations and inspections I subsequently succeeded in having our Soccer Ground chosen as an Olympic Training Venue. This meant that our ground had to be upgraded to FIFA (Olympic) standard. Incidentally, our ground was in need of an upgrade so this was a wonderful opportunity. A grant of $60,000.00 was secured from SOCOG to financially assist the Veneto Club carry out the necessary upgrading. I later approached SOCOG again and requested an extra $10,000.00 and I am happy to say this extra grant has also been approved.

The total amount given to the Veneto Club by SOCOG is $70,000.00. The ground is continually monitored to ensure that it is maintained at FIFA (Olympic) standard. The training is due to

commence in September. The ground was officially launched by the Minister of Sport Mr Justin Madden in March and the Veneto Club was presented with a plaque to commemorate our Soccer Field upgrade.

At this point I would like to thank the Soccer Committee for their understanding and co-operation as the ground is unable to be used for training at present. My gratitude is extended to Mr Vittorio Sist who has the job of maintaining the ground to ensure that it is in top condition for the International Teams to train on.

As liaison officer for the Squash and Shooters many thanks to Ernesto Bertollo and Bert Caneva for their continued involvement.

Finally, my appreciation is extended to the Club Committee for their support and especially the Members for their assistance and their continued belief in me.

Dal Direttore del Club

Permettetemi di presentarmi, mi chiamo Ernesto Zucchi, nato a Parma da madre veronese e padre parmense.

Ho vissuto in Inghilterra dal 1975 al 1982 con una pausa in Italia dove ho gestito un Bar/Trattoria che poi ho venduto nel 1984. Ritornato a Londra ho continuato a gestire e dirigere Ristoranti, Clubs e varieta di esercizi nel settore turistico e alberghiero.

Nel 1991 ho aperto un servizio di consulenza che mi ha permesso di partecipare a molte attivita nel settore della ristorazione e bar. Sono arrivato a Melbourne nell'Ottobre 1997 e sono stato incaricato come Direttore del Veneto Club it 1 Marzo 2000. Ho accettato la direzione offertami con entusiasmo e grande piacere, per 1 'opportunita che mi a stata presentata voglio ringraziare it Presidente Cay. Agostino Martini e tutto it comitato per la fiducia che mi a stata data in questo grande e prestigioso club. Da parte mia sono sicuro che con la mia esperienza e grande voglia di far bene, riuscira con l'aiuto del comitato e i miei collaboratori a fare un buon lavoro.

Ho identificato i punti pia salienti di cui mi prendero cura immediatamente senza per?) dimenticare tutto it resto che puo' e deve essere migliorato.

Voglio approfittare per ringraziare personalmente le Ladies Auxilary per tutto l'aiuto e it lavoro che hanno dedicato al Club, se ce ne fossero di pill saremmo sicuramente tutti molto contenti. Grazie!

Ringrazio tutti i sotto-comitati pregandoli di continuare a usare it Club ancora di pia, lavorando assieme sono sicuro che riusciremo non solo a migliorare ma ad essere anche pia competitivi, sia nei prezzi e sia nella scelta.

Vi ringrazio tutti per it calore con cui sono stato accolto e per tutti i consigli che mi avete dato, che vi assicuro ascolto e considero di &nu) in giorno e nel frattempo vi prego di avere un po' di pazienza e vedrete che risultati.

Soccer at Veneto oBULLEEN ZEBRASÂť Soccer Club The New Millennium is upon us and a new era in soccer has commenced in 2000 with the adoption of the "Bulleen Zebras" name.

The Veneto Club in collaboration with SOCOG and the Victorian Government has spent a considerable amount of money to upgrade the playing surface of our soccer pitch. Combined with the excellent facilities available to our sponsors, members and supporters, the Veneto Club is arguably the premier sporting club in Australia.

Our long-term vision is to enter a team in the 2nd Tier National competition next year and we have in place a very committed and experienced administration to lead us into the next year.

The team had performed below expectations up until mid-season but our fortunes improved with the appointment of Joe Mullen (Head Coach) and Sean Keogh (Assistant Coach). John Romano has been in charge of our seconds since the beginning of the season and now both squads have adopted a more disciplined and professional strategy.

Paramount to our success is the strength of both Bulleen and Box Hill juniors and our future rests with our commitment to the development

of the young players.

To all the volunteer workers behind the scenes, we pass on our sincerest thanks and to the companies and individuals who continue to support our great club, we could not achieve our visions and objectives for the future without your financial contribution.

Thank you to the Veneto Club for their generous support and together we can plan for the future.

JUNIOR SECRETARY' S REPORT

Once again a new soccer season has started. We have 19 teams this year with 270 prayers, which is more than ever before! The Bulleen Lions Club can be very proud that we have 10 sub-juniors consisting of under 7's, 8's, 9's and 10's.

Lina Saladino has a very good job looking after the sub-juniors and must be congratulated for her magnificent effort!

We also have 9 juniors teams with two teams in some age groups. The club has 3 Super League teams and an U18's team. All teams are doing very well at this stage and I wish the coaches, managers and players every success for the season.

Dear members, once again the club can be very proud of the National Youth team. For the first time in six years the team made the top four finals playoffs! It is of course a tremendous achievement to compete with the

National League clubs. The team has got a lot of talent and I am sure some of the boys will make it to the senior team. We already have two of the youth players in the Senior squad. The highest praise must go to the coach Jim Gotzilianis for his hard work and perseverance throughout the season under great pressure. Jim is a big plus for this club and I only hope people appreciate this!

Tennis Members, The 1999 Club Championships were a great success. The first week's delay, due to bad weather, meant those enthusiasts who entered many events were in for some long hauls. Stamina and endurance were needed for the three set marathons that prevailed. Exceptional efforts were put in from Nick Longo, Graham Watt, Domenic De Stefanis, and Tuilo Giansante. The increase

Tennis Report in junior participants challenging the more experienced members was very encouraging. Eleven events were contested with over fifty participants.

The various Championship events singles, doubles, mixed - provide the opportunity for members to play against their peers in an atmosphere of competition and fun and all are encouraged to participate in the variety.

It is not for the "good" players, it is for all members to enjoy and gain experience. Spectators witnessed excellent tennis and on the final Sunday players and spectators were treated to a BBQ before the presentations.

Congratulations to our reigning Champions Joseph Addamo and Rebecca Delahunt and all winners (refer honour roll). Many thanks to all participants and to those off court who made this event a success.

The current Autumn 2000 season is nearing completion and Veneto has all junior teams and most of the mens teams in the finals. Men's Tuesday night tennis has proved so popular that we currently hire courts from Boroondara to cater for the extra demand. Junior teams have grown in number from three to five and we expect this growth to continue into the next season. Good luck to all teams and hopefully we will be reporting more winners. We encourage members to join in competition tennis. There are various grades and times of play so if you are interested please contact a committee member. It is a great way to meet people and keep in shape at the same time.

Our resident coaches Glenn Busby and Vince Datolli are becoming increasingly busier as more juniors and ladies (plus a couple of old blokes) are either learning or seeking to improve their game. The standard and experience offered

by Glenn and Vince is unrivaled in our locale. As parents realise the benefits of coaching for their children the number of junior members increases thus ensuring the future of our Tennis Club.

Spring 1999 Brutti winners Frank Barban, Lou Chiodo

No season can pass without the famous "Brutti and Belli" Tournament. The surprise Belli winners Phillip Price and Tony Trovato fought off hard challenges along the way to finally be victorious over Domenic De Stefanis and Andrew Brest in the final. The Brutti final saw experience overcome youth with Frank Barban and Lou Chiodo defeat Joseph Rocuzzo and Robert Cimino 9/7 in a hard fought battle.

Many enjoyed the final night BBQ and we are sure this event will

continue to be a members' favourite.

The courts at the Veneto Club are for all tennis members and their guests. We trust that members abide by the rules to ensure all get a fair go. If any member has suggestions, comments, compliments or complaints we encourage you to bring them up with a committee member so we can address the issues to the satisfaction and benefit of all members.

BOCCE NEWS The end of another Bocce season see us start a new minimum and hopefully will see the sport grow. Season 1999-2000 has been a year of building on the Bocce Player at the club that one played and enticing them back to play Bocce. With no real new players, our base participation has increased due to the efforts of the Bocce Committee in enticing older players back to the sport, with competitions that most players enjoy. The Night Competition has managed to attract new members to the Veneto Club and the format of our competition and faculties of the club are second to none and it is easy to see why they choose the Veneto Club to play the sport they love. We welcome these Bocce Player to the Veneto Club and hope we continue to be the venue of their choice for years to come. We welcome the new Bocce players to the Veneto Family and thank you to all Veneto Club Bocce players for making these new members welcomed.

This is the first year for a long time that I can remember that the Veneto Club has not dominated the Federation competition, with D. Mickolic and T. Palermo leading all season.

Congratulation to Silvio Gatto and Emilio Colla for making the State Team once again. I'm sure they will both perform well at the Veneto Club on June 9-12. We look forward to being a part of the first State Championship of the new Millennium. The story in the A-West Grade is much the same with Renzo Bordin, the best Veneto players with 18 point and equal fifth.

Congratulations to the above players for a super season and wish everyone luck for the 20002001 season.

Members will be pleased to note that our Bocce players convincingly thrashed Greythorn Lawn Bowl Club. Our Bocce players managed to beat them at their own game winning 2 games. Final Points score Veneto Club 338, Greythorn Lawn Bowls 238.

Thank you to all involved and especially John Blazzetti from Greythorn Lawn Bowls for being the brains behind the competition. We look forward to continuing this competition next year.

1999 Bowl Bash Trophy Winners

Late January the Angeloni family, Bocce Committee and the Veneto Club hosted the 2000 children's cup witch raised $2600.00 for the Royal Children's Hospital Appeal. Thank you and congratulation to everyone involved in putting this competition together Di Iorio jewellery, Preston Chassis, Windsor Caravans, Veneto Club and all the players involved. Hope to see you all next year.

The best competition of the year was clearly the Marconi vs. Veneto. It gave the spectator a final that will be remembered and talked about for years to come. After 2 hours of solid competition Veneto was leading 13- 8 when in the last end Marconi managed to tie the score and nudge out a gallant Veneto Team 14-13. The score is 2-1 in favour of Marconi but Veneto team will be keen to even the score next year.

Thank you to the Bocce Committee (S. Gatto, E. Colla, M. Velo, G. De Domenicis, and G. Gatto) and the Ladies Bocce Committee, Veneto Club Committee, G. L'anno 1999-2000 si e concluso con vittorie e piazzamenti. Per primo devo menzionare i campionati australiani svoltisi a Sydney a giugno del `99 dove abbiamo ottenuto i risultati di prime nel triplo, seconde nel doppio e prime nel tiro.

Con questi risultati possiamo dire che le tre giocatrici che rappresentavano it Victoria, fra le quali una di queste a veneta, si sono fatte veramente onore.

Un altro tomeo di bocce mi sento in dovere di menzionare, ed e quello svoltosi al Crown Casino, durante la settimana italiana in gennaio del 2000.

Questo tomeo e stato vinto dalla coppia veneta.

Con questo non mi rimane che fare le pin sincere congratulazioni da parte del nostro sottocomitato, alle nostre poche giocatrici.

Non posso dimenticare di menzionare it lavoro che it nostro sotto-comitato svolge durante 1'anno per tutte le competizioni (Federali, Sociali e Amichevoli).

Quest'anno abbiamo avuto come ospiti graditi per una competizione amichevole i bocciofili del Club Marconi di Sydney.

Vogliamo ancora una volta esprimere la nostra sincera gratitudine agli "sponsor" che danno sempre

FEDERAZIONE AUSTRALIANA BOCCE For all Bocce enthusiasts, I would like to inform you of the major events of the past twelve months.

AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR BOCCE CHAMPIONSHIPS In April last, the nineteenth Australian Junior Bocce Championships were held at the Laguna Veneto Club in Perth, West Australia. The format was the same as in the previous year with players contesting the five titles, Progressive Throwing Competition, Precision Throwing Competition, Singles, Doubles, and Bowl/Throw. The Progressive Throwing Title went to Steven Bertollo of New South Wales with Ross De Ieso of Sduth Australia in second place; the Precision Throwing Title was won by Ross De Ieso of South Australia with Marco Masari of ACT in second place; the Singles Titles was won by Ross De Ieso of South Australia with Rocco Marando of New South Wales second; the Doubles Title was won by Luciano Mazza, Danny Parker and Stephen Catania of West Australia, with Santo Pascuzzi, Craig Ryan and Jessica Ryan of Victoria second; the Bowl/Throw Title was won by Angelo Caiazza of South Australia with Joseph Marinelli of Queensland in second place; South Australia was judged Champion State with Craig Ryan

of Victoria being awarded Best & Fairest.

This year the Under 35 Tournament was cancelled due to lack of participants.

WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS CASABLANCA (MOROCCO) Australia was one of fifteen nations thrown into confusion when the World Junior Championship and the Under23 Throwing Championships were abruptly halted and later postponed at the Casablanca Athletic Stadium in July 1999.

The Championships were abandoned at the quarter finals when the Moroccan Government declared a state of emergency following the death of King Hassan. The traditional Under 18 World Championship was played concurrently with the new Under 23 Throwing Titles which was an experimental approach. The under 18 team representing Australia was made up of Joe Pascuzzi (Vic), Simon Topatig (Qld) and Joseph Marinelli (Nth Qld) with Steven Chiandotto from NSW as Coach. Unfortunately our team's performance this year was disappointing. Australia was represented at the Under 23 Throwing Championships by Robert Mikuletic from New South Wales and Angelo Parisi from Victoria.

AUSTRALIAN SPORTS MEDAL Sport Bocce will join with other sports to be recognised by the issue of an Australian Sports 2000 medal by the Australian Federal Government.

This award is a recognition of those who have made a contribution to Sport Bocce as a participant or as a supporter or administrator of the sport. The Bocce Federation of Australia as the peak body will forward nominations to the Federal Government and the awards will in turn, be approved by the Governor General.

VIETNAM VETERANS Little has been heard of the returned soldiers and their ability to fit back into civilian life. It is only now on the 33rd anniversary of the battle of Long Tan that the psychological and medical condition of these men and women is being discussed. Bocce responded to the challenge by taking up a joint offer from the Dept. of Veteran Affairs and the Australian Sports Commission and introduced bocce to some of Victoria's Vietnam Veterans. The National Development Director John Inglese was responsible for organising a demonstration and subsequent tournament which was a great success and enjoyed by all participants.

7th AUSTRALIAN MASTERS GAMES Adelaide turned on a warm welcome for the participants for the 7th Australian Bocce Masters. The Veneto Club Adelaide was the venue for this event. The men played Doubles and Fours and the Women Singles and Doubles. The Men's Fours was won by Gaetano Gallio, Duilio Dametto, Gino Innocente and Luigi Campagnaro, the Doubles Group 1 - Tony Palermo and Tony Biancacci, Group 2 - Duilio Dametto and Gino Innocente. The Women's Singles Under 50's was won by Vesela Eterovic, the Over 50's Antonia De Marchi, the Doubles was won by Delfina Gallio and Antonia De Marchi. It would be pleasing if the next Master's Games attracted more participants.

2000 WORLD JUNIORS & UNDER 23 This World Championship was to have been held in Tunisia later this year but has been cancelled.

Anna Di Clemente from Queensland, and Suzan Jugovac from New South Wales represented Australia at these World Titles with Lina Cher as Delegate. Ten countries competed at these Championships. We are pleased to say that our first Gold Medal for Bocce at World Championships was won by Anna Di Clemente in the Bowl/Throw. The Doubles Team of Jones and Allegretto won the Silver Medal and Barbara Jones came 4th in the Singles and Anna Di Clemente Best & Fairest. We congratulate our Ladies on their magnificent accomplishments.

These Titles were very successful and many followers from interstate visited our Club for these Championships

SQUASH CLUB REPORT Club Championship The Club Championships' were held in July 1999 and we congratulate Chris Apswoude on his great win in the final where he defeated Anthony Bucello.

Anthony managed to turn the tables on Chris later and defeated him in the handicap event.

We congratulate both players on their fine efforts.

With its top players Chris Apswoude and Anthony Bucello in top form, the Club anticipated a great pennant season for its No.1 team, and midway the team was clear on top of the B.1 Grade. Unfortunately disaster struck which saw Anthony break his leg while playing netball. He will be out of action for up to 18 months. Without his help the team's performance fell away and it was defeated in the semi-final.

The Club's second team, captained by Mario Siliato, had a great season and finished well clear on top of the C Grade. An incredible Grand Final resulted in a tie. Unfortunately in the replay the

The B1 team quickly moved to the top with Chris Apswoude in fine form, however as luck would have it, Chris damage his knee and required a reconstruction mid-season which will keep him out of action for six months. In his absence the team's performance fell away and it appears unlikely to make the finals.

The Club, unfortunately, also lost Oscar Morandini early in the season. Oscar, No.1 player for the C4 team, suffered serious injuries in a fall at home which prevented him playing for the season. He is well on the way to recovery and we hope to have him back on the squash court next season.

As we go to press the Club still has great chances of success in three grades. Marco Siliato's B3 team is in third position, while the C4 team, Without Oscar Morandini, has it the top of the ladder.

Congratulation to Anthony Carucci and his team. The Clive's E grade team, under the guidance of John Cassar, is also in third position and Tel. 9850 9490 is confident of a finals berth.

SHOOTERS Con l'avvicinarsi al termine dell'anno finanziario it Veneto Shooters Club compie felicemente un altro anno di vita.

In questi mesi ci sono stati molti incontri soddisfacenti, fra i quali un avvenimento degno di nota a stato quello della partecipazione di cinque nostri membri ai campionati del "South Eastern Zone".

Lindemans Wines was founded by a former Royal Naval Surgeon, Dr Henry John Lindeman, who migrated to Australia from London in 1841. A year later, after setting up a medical practice, he purchased a Hunter Valley property known as "Cawarra" (an Aboriginal word meaning "beside running water") and in 1843 he began planting vines. The fact he would only release fully matured wines helped make his name - as did the successful cattle and horse-breeding venture which he also ran.

On his death in 1881, aged 70, Dr Lindeman left three of his five sons as very capable managing partners and a company which would lead the NSW wine industry throughout the next century.

Diana Ruzzene Grollo 24/6/97 No other Italian woman coming to Australia since the war has told us as much as Diana Ruzzene Grollo. It is a remarkable story to learn what it was really like to be an Italo, Australian woman in the 1950s and 1960s. Vilified by racial taunts, repressed by the Church, exploited by the sweat-box factory owners, these women also had to carry the emotional burden of their families and to endure childbirth and the rest of women's lot, in this strange land.

This is the first book to tell that story, and to explain the forces they were up against, including the Church. To understand what kept these women going through this adversity, the book describes the life they had left behind physically, but which they had carried across the ocean in their hearts.

The book is in two parts. Part one looks at the history, geography and wars of the Veneto region. Part two is biographical-sociological where the experience of the migrant child and the enormous hardships were endured, with little government support, constant language and cultural barriers that led to poorly developed skills.

For anyone who wants to understand the "women's business" of migration, this book is indispensable reading.

REGIONE VENETO La Regione Veneto conferma l'interesse per le nuove generazioni nel mondo

Verso it 1° Meeting Internazionale dei giovani oriundi Veneti Ad organizzare it Meeting, l'Associazione Trevisani nel Mondo (GRTV La ) Regione del Veneto ha confermato it suo interesse per i giovani di origine veneta sparsi nel mondo con un provvedimento (#4504 del 14-12-99) dove esprime l'intenzione di dare avvio al primo Meeting Internazionale dei giovani oriundi veneti. Con lo stesso provvedimento, affida l'organizzazione di quest'iniziativa all' Associazione Trevisani nel Mondo, in modo particolare ai giovani. Si 6 cosi formata questa Task Force composta da ragazzi di yank provincie venete che hanno espresso un interesse vivo a partecipare e a contribuire ai lavori.

Anticipiamo 1'informazione sul meeting allo scopo di favorire la valutazione per chi intendesse proporsi come partecipante - delegato/a.

Si svolgera intorno a meta settembre prossimo in una localita del Veneto ancora da definire e durera all'incirca tre giorni.

Tra tutte le domande che arriveranno, verranno selezionati 140 partecipanti (residenti in Italia e all'estero) in eta compresa tra i 1 8 e i 30 anni.

Al centro di questo meeting, saranno i partecipanti/delegati; i

discorsi e i lavori ruoteranno intorno ad argomenti che riguardano loro. In questo senso, vi invitiamo gia da ora a mandarci dei possibili temi/argomenti che secondo voi sarebbe interessante affrontare.

Con la conclusione dell'anno finanziario 1999/2000 6 doveroso fare i conti con it passato e previsioni per it futuro.

Ci siamo lasciati alle spalle it 20.mo secolo. Per la maggior parte di noi una gran fetta della nostra vita, per la nostra associazione sono stati gli anni di infanzia che ci hanno visti tutti un po' piU giovani ed anche piu numerosi. Io credo che dobbiamo molto alla buona volonta dei nostri soci, alla gioia di riunirci di tanto in tanto alla realizzabilita dei nostri progetti e soprattutto all'orgoglio che sentiamo in noi per le nostre origini vicentine.

Siamo riusciti nella maggior parte dei nostri intenti che ci hanno visto promotori di svariate attivita che vanno oltre i limiti geografici del vicentino. Abbiamo partecipato e contribuito alla promozione della cultura italiana e dei legami con it

Veneto e l'Italia tutta. Abbiamo inoltre curato le relazioni con altre associazioni ed aiutato anche finanziariamente molte istituzioni che si prendono cura dei meno fortunati.

Nella comunita in cui viviamo se questo e it tempo di bilanci vagliando bene le nostre attivita possiamo ritenerci ben in attivo.

I primi passi nel futuro sono gia stati fatti. II 2000 ha da sempre rappresentato almeno per la nostra generazione 1'inizio del cosi detto "futuro", noi ci siamo entrati al nostro 16.mo anno.

Siamo quindi ancora molto giovani e certamente abbiamo un avvenire impegnato e promettente. Sembra che si stia riscoprendo, da parte dei nostri figli e giovani generazioni, 1'inestimabile valore umano e culturale che abbiamo grazie alle nostre origini vicentine. Voglio

guardare ai prossimi anni convinto di poter aprire un dialogo che pur nel completo rispetto delle convinzioni dei giovani ci dara modo di promulgare e salvaguardare la nostra associazione e tutto cio che rappresenta.

Mi congratulo con tutti i soci per la passione che sentite per 1'Ente e ringrazio sentitamente tutti i membri del comitato per it loro lavoro, i suggerimenti e la loro dedizione.

Comunita Montana dei 7 Comuni Lungo la strada verso it cosi anticipato anno 2000, i soci della Comunita Montana dei 7 Comuni non hanno mancato di approfittare delle occasioni a loro offerte, di radunarsi, viaggiare, festeggiare, discutere, mangiare e ricordare.

Hanno anche accolto ed ospitato amici e parenti venuti a far visita in questo nostro grande paese dell'Australia, lontano per molti dal paese di origine, ma terra di opportunity per tanti e luogo di nascita di diversi dei loro figli e nipoti.

A febbraio c'e stato un bel viaggio fino a Ballarat, prima per godere i bellissimi fiori esposti nel festival delle begonie e in seguito per gustare un buon pranzo a Hepburn Springs e dopo una sosta per un'anguria a Daylesford un po' pin tardi.

In seguito, nel mese di marzo, dopo aver partecipato con gusto alla sagra gastronomica, con la provvista di salsicce e crauti, polenta e formaggio sotto gli eucalipti del Veneto Club, i nostri soci erano di nuovo in viaggio verso it bel panorama dei luoghi turistici intorno ai monti Grampians.

Altre gite a Cobram e a Swan Hill hanno completato i viaggi per i soci nell'anno 1999.

Con I'arrivo del freddo dell'inverno a Melbourne, /'idea di organizzare un raduno dei soci ed amici per godere un po' di Vin BriIle, con pane e soppressa sembrata piuttosto buona. II numero di partecipanti quel giorno ha confermato che tanti erano d'accordo. Nel corso del pomeriggio, ricordi di luoghi

lontani sono rinati per molti con la presentazione di un video intitolato "L'altopiano dei mille colori"; mille colori davvero, dai monti e i pascoli, alla flora e la fauna, dettagli da non dimenticarsi mai.

A settembre, una tristezza.

Cie venuto a mancare un nostro amico e membro del Comitato; it Signor Lino Bortoli a deceduto dopo una battaglia con l'imperdonabile malattia di cancro.

Dalla sua bocca venivano sempre parole gentili per tutti e dalla sua penna fluivano parole sempre adatte ad ogni occasione. Peccato che non si conosceranno mai i suoi pensieri del nuovo secolo.

Per fortuna pero, ci ha lasciato i suoi pensieri del passato, nel suo libro intitolato "Sull"Altopiano", stampato e in vendita da poco qui in Australia. Grazie, Lino.

In ottobre, la Cena-Ballo Annuale. Due coppie giovani, Tony e Antonella Panozzo (Del Vecchio) e Darren Comi e Federica Stefani sono stati invitati alla serata, come Nuovi Pionieri in Australia; un certo trasferimento di responsabilita dai piu anziani ai piu giovani Sipensato. sib Le immancabili bicchierate di Pasqua e Natale attirano sempre molti soci; tempo di auguri e saluti, e a Natale del 1999 c'era una scusa maggiore per festeggiare: l'avvicinarsi dell'anno 2000.

Il primo giro dell'anno 2000 per la Comunita Montana 6 stato per partecipare ad un raduno annuale organizzato dal Sig. Bruno Spiller nel paese pittoresco di Harrietville, nel nord-est del Victoria. Un raduno di gente locale e da lontano, ricco di costumi, balli e musica regionale dal nord dell'Italia, insieme con cibo di tutti i tipi, donato da persone generose nei dintorni. La generosity era una parola importante quella sera, poiche tutti

i soldi raccolti dal raduno sono stati spediti all'organizzazione "Camp Quality" per i bambini sofferenti di diverse forme di cancro. La somma raccolta da quella sera 6 stata di $ 3.100 e siamo stati orgogliosi di aver contribuito.

Marzo ha visto l'arrivo di un gruppo dall'Altopiano di Asiago, fra it quale abbiamo anche dato it benvenuto, durante una cena-ballo al Veneto Club, al Sindaco di Foza ed al Parlamentare, L'On. Flavio Rodeghiero. Bellissimi regali e ricordi sono stati offerti da ospiti e visitatori entrambi.

Pasqua b stata pin tardi del solito quest'anno, ma la Comunita Montana non ha mancato di radunarsi come sempre per la bicchierata della Pasquetta. Un altro raduno di un gruppo di persone che, malgrado la differenza di eta tra tutti, trovano spesso occasione di fare qualcosa insieme. Legati da origini piu o meno lontane, c'e chi si incontra come famiglie, chi per mangiare o per giocare alle carte. Ci sono i

II carnevale dei veronesi Premiati con medaglia d'oro Elda Taioli Dally Zuanna e Renato Aganetti.

I Veronesi hanno le loro belle tradizioni popolari di cui vanno giustamente fieri. Una di queste a it carnevale: un trionfo di ilarita, costumi d'altre epoche, grande tributo all'arte culinaria e ai vini pregiati, rievocazione storica di Giulietta e Romeo, e soprattutto festa del "Papa del Gnoco". Questo a it personaggio che esalta la generosity degli amministratori comunali verso it popolo, o la plebe come si diceva una volta.

La festa ha origini antichissime, verso it 1500 quando in tutta Italia, Verona inclusa, erano comuni i lunghi periodi di carestia spesso accompagnati dalla peste che decimava la popolazione. A Verona, in un momento di "magra" it Comune decise di alleviare la fame della gente con una gigantesca "gnoccolada" in piazza.

Da tutti gli angoli sbucavano affamati che si abbuffavano di gnocchi. E da allora ogni anno it piattone di gnocchi divenne l'occasione di una festa popolare con balli, danze, smargiassate di ogni genere e it trionfo del "Papa del Gnoco" su un carro addobbato a festa.

A questo tipico carnevale "scaligero" si ispirato it Comitato della Associazione Veronesi nel Mondo di Melbourne, presieduto da Renzo Zanella, per la simpatica "Festa del "Papa del Gnoco" al Veneto Club di Bulleen, nella elegante sala San Marco, sabato 26 febbraio.

Ad accogliere it pubblico, formato da veronesi, veneti e amici, si presentava it "Papa del Gnoco" in persona, it signor Aganetti in uno smagliante costume originario di cent'anni fa, dono del Comune di Verona.

Il menu della serata comprendeva "gnocchi", naturalmente, e un ricco secondo piatto con salse apprezzate a Verona come la "pears"..

L'occasione a servita per premiare due persone che hanno avuto it merito di lavorare ininterrottamente per 25 anni con la stessa compagnia: Elda Taioli-Dalla Zuanna titolare di una ditta tessile e Renato Aganetti dipendente della society di telecomunicazioni Telstra (ex Telecom). Ad essi ii presidente dell'Associazione Renzo Zanella ha consegnato un attestato di benemerenza su pergamena elegantemente decorata e una medaglia d'oro, donati congiuntamente dalla Camera di Commeicio di Verona, dall'Amministrazione Comunale e dall'Associazione Veronesi nel Mondo.

I due premiati hanno posato per la foto ricordo e sono stati lungamente ASSOCIAZIOni NERONESIRELIND , applauditi dai presenti. annws...6 Dopo un intervallo di musica e balli magistralmente coordinato dal Trio Brancatella,. si sono presentati in sala "Giulietta e Romeo" nei loro splendidi costumi d'epoca. Hanno profuso it loro messaggio di gioia con sorrisi dolcissimi passando tra i tavoli e invitando i commensali ad acquistare i biglietti della lotteria.

Sul finire Renzo Zanella ha illustrato it progetto di una gita in Italia nel prossimo mese di settembre che, comprendeth la visita a citta di arte e cultura. II Giubileo che si celebra in tutto it mondo attira molti turisti in Italia. Si offre quindi anche per i veronesi d'Australia l'occasione di far ritorno alla loro terra.

ASSOCIAZIONE TREVISANI NEL MONDO

A prima vista sembrerebbe che sia un pio desiderio piu che una realta quello che si dice sulla Trevisani nel Mondo. Infatti quasi sempre leggiamo cose positive, successi, serate ben organizzate e molto frequentate ecc. ecc.

Eppure quello di cui si legge a riguardo l'A.T.M. la pura realta'.

Infatti abbiamo chiuso it 1999 soddisfatti di aver raggiunto qualcosa di buono sia dal punto di vista sociale che dal punto di vista culturale. Nel 1999 si iniziato con l'assemblea generate a cui presero parte phi della meta dei soci iscritti. Non ci furono elezioni perch& i membri del Direttivo si dichiararono disposti

a continuare it lavoro e perche non ci fu nessun aspirante a prendere it Toro posto. A febbraio ci fu it picnic a cui, anche perche favorito da una bellissima giornata, presero parte moltissimi soci e, cosa che fa piacere, molti amici di soci.

In giugno una quarantina di Trevisani ebbero modo di andare in Italia, fermandosi pen!) in Canada per 10 giorni. Li si incontrarono con i Trevisani di Toronto, di Montreal, di Guelph, di Ottawa, di Quebec e fu una bellissima esperienza per tutti. Una volta in Italia si forme) una comitiva di 52 gitanti, meta locali e meta "australiani" e si ebbe modo di visitare la Puglia, con una tappa speciale a San

Giovanni Rotondo, il paese di Padre Pio. Fu una bellissima esperienza e una riuscitissima gitapellegrinaggio.

All'inizio di ottobre a Perth si tenne it quinto Convegno nazionale A.T.M.. Da Melbourne presero parte 97 trevisani che ebbero modo, non solo di partecipare ai lavori del Convegno, ma anche di fermarsi 10 giorni per visitare il Far West dell'Australia.

Indovinatissima fu la trovata di risiedere sempre nello stesso Hotel e da It fare vane puntate a centri di interesse lontani da Perth anche pin di 490 Krn, come Albury, it punto pifi a sud dell'Australia. A novembre si concluse il 1999 con la cena dei Pionieri che ebbe luogo nella sala Venezia del Veneto Club. Si comincio il 2000 con 1'assemblea generate dei soci all'inizio di febbraio.

Ancora una volta it numero dei presenti super6 le 200 units. Fu presa la decisione di limitare al massimo le serate sociali e invece organizzare piu pranzi. I resoconti, i discorsi, le domande e risposte si risolsero in poco pin di un'ora. Tutti furono soddisfatti di ci6 che si fece e di ci6 che si intende fare. Un rinfresco abbondante e vario concluse la serata.

La domenica successiva ci fu il picnic, sempre sul terreno del Veneto Club e sempre beneficati da una magnifica giornata di sole. Il numero dei presenti quest'anno ha superato ogni aspettativa.

Per soddisfare i desideri dei trevisani it Direttivo organizz6 la festa del com-patrono di Treviso: San Liberale non piu con una cena danzante ma con un pranzo danzante. Dapprima ci si incontr6 nella cappella del centro Assisi per la santa messa e poi nella sala Venezia del Veneto Club per il pranzo. Una sala piena fu la risposta dei soci.

L'ultima domenica di maggio si andra a Dromana per un pranzo di pesce che avra come contorno castagne, yin brule, crostoli e la solita cantata conclusiva. Unico rammarico it fatto che per la ristrettezza dell'ambiente si possono soddisfare solo 230 soci.

E per il futuro? A meta luglio una gita di quattro giomi a Griffith e dintorni. A settembre un altro pranzo preceduto dalla messa per festeggiare San Pio X e a meta novembre la serata conclusiva per il 2000 con la premiazione dei pionieri. E' consolante constatare che anche se c'e qualche defezione dovuta piu che altro all'eta, it numero degli aderenti alla A.T.M. si aggira sempre sulle 350 famiglie.

ASSOCIAZIONE PADOVANI NEL MONDO SEDE DI MELBOURNE Per prima cosa desideriamo ringraziare tutti i soci e simpatizzanti che intervengono sempre numerosi a tutte le nostre funzioni sociali per trascorrere qualche ora in sana allegria fra amici a paesani. Come al solito anche quest'anno abbiamo organizzato diversi BBQ, cene sociali e gite, e come avevo promesso nella mia ultima relazione, ecco qui le foto della gita ai monti Grampians.

Lo scorso 30 Aprile, la nostra Associazione ha tenuto nella sala San Marco del Veneto Club, l'annuale assemblea dei soci con una grande partecipazione di soci pronti di rinnovare la tessera, e oltre con un aumento di nuovi soci. Dopo it pranzo offerto a tutti i partecipanti, sono iniziati i lavori con 1'introduzione del Presidente Mario Sonza, seguito dalla relazione della Segretaria, Livia Marchetti e dal Tesoriere, Giovanni Veronese.

Durante it mese di Novembre scorso con un bel gruppo di soci ed amici abbiamo partecipato ad una gita ai Grampians, le spettacolari catene montuose a nord ovest del Victoria. Durante it percorso, lungo la Great Ocean Road, i gitanti hanno potuto ammirare le formazioni rocciose conosciute con it nome di 12 Apostoli. Dopo una sosta a Warrnambool la comitiva ha proseguito per i Grampians e visitato la caratteristica McKenzie Falls, una scalinata di circa 270 scalini e it Reid's Lookout dove 6 d'obbligo una foto ricordo. Il gruppo ha pranzato a Hall's Gap, tra lo scenario incantevole delle montagne. Sosta a Ballarat durante it ritomo per uno spuntino con pane e salame e vino. L'atmosfera d'amicizia e allegria, con in auge i barzellettisti dialettali ha reso piacevole l'escursione.

Il Tesoriere, Giovanni Veronese, ha annunciato che anche quest'anno abbiamo dato assistenza alle ricerche del "Anti-Cancer Council", la Heart Foundation e it Diabetes Australia-Victoria con una somma in totale di $3000.

Un sincero ringraziamento a tutti i soci per la loro continua partecipazione alle riunioni del nostro gruppo di amici Padovani.

Uno dei nostri Soci Fondatori, it Sig. Walter Reffo ha deciso di ritirarsi dal comitato dopo 14 anni di servizio. Il Sig. Reffo a stato it primo Presidente nel 1986 e in quel tempo ha dato un grande contributo all'Associazione nel mantenere un alto livello di professionalita sia nella capacity di Presidente e Relazioni Pubbliche. Le sue iniziative si sono dimostrate sempre molto bene riuscite e sono sicura che it Comitato attuale continuera it buon lavoro. Al Sig. Reffo a stata dimostrata la nostra riconoscenza con la presentazione di una placca commemorativa da parte dell'attuale Presidente Mario Sonza. A nome dei soci e del Comitato auguriamo a Walter ogni bene e buona salute.
