DAVID PERRIN, M.P. MEMBER FOR BULLEEN

Mr Agostino Martini President Veneto Club 191 Bulleen Road BULLEEN Vic. 3105 Dear Mr Martini, May I thank you most warmly for another opportunity to support the Veneto Club and its valuable work in the Manningham community. I believe that the Veneto Club provides a warm and friendly family atmosphere at its many facilities, be they sporting or social, for the Italian community and for the wider community. In the past the Club has been successful in extending its facilities enabling it to expand the range of benefits offered, with its multi purpose sporting stadium and the roofing over the stand of the soccer stadium. The Minister for Planning, the Hon Robert Maclellan, has again supported an extension of the Club's Members Lounge and Bistro, to provide additional space for members and to link two existing sections of the second floor of the club rooms. This further expansion of the Club's facilities is an indication of the warm support that the Veneto Club receives for its activities from the Victorian Government and is also an indication of the support the Club receives from the wider community in Manningham. May I also personally congratulate you, Mr Martini, on being recently awarded a high honour from the Italian Government by being made a Cavaliere. I believe that this honour is an indication of the respect that you have within the Italian community and is a recognition of the hard work you have undertaken on behalf of the Veneto Club and the wider Italian community. Would you please pass on my congratulations to the hard working Committee Members of the Veneto Club as well as my support for all those members who are associated with you in the valuable work you undertake in our community. Yours sincerely,

DAVID PERRIN MP State Member for Bulleen

Onoreficenza

President's Report Dear Members, Another report, yet another year has passed and we still have a constantly expanding club which I will follow with all my enthusiasm and best efforts. As you will have noticed, there is still work in progress this time with regards to the renovating of the gaming room. It is necessary to keep updating the gaming room in order to maintain a high competitive standard. If we neglect this factor we could risk not having our gaming licence for the pokie machines renewed. The market is very competitive and other associations strive very hard to have pokie machines. The remaining free space will be used for a little hall for members where they will be able to meet for various social activities. A new and modern lift is also foreseen in these renovations. This lift will give the possibility to access the mezzanine floor therefore allowing members to enter the gaming room without climbing the stairs. This will also facilitate disabled persons. In all this complex work we must express our gratitude to Leo Poli and Dino Bilia who have free of charge offered us to use their company name as builders. Ray Rostolis, member of the executive committee, has also dedicated a great deal of his time to assist in the renovations. Thankyou very much on my behalf and on behalf of the members. Notwithstanding all these innovative activities, the Club brilliantly and successfully continues its social life. We have

celebrated the 25th anniversary of the opening of the building. At our celebrations we have been honoured by the presence of the Victorian Premier who praised us for our constructive activities in the community of this State. We held the International Veneto Region Conference in which Australia and South Africa participated. These are the more prominent points, but we should also keep in mind all the other social and sporting activities that take place every year at the Club and have become a stable occurrence. The members' participation is always more and more enthusiastic and, notwithstanding the diminution of the older generation, it seems that our Club is full of life and has big plans for the future. From the financial point of view we must take note that things have improved even with regards to last year's budget. This also demonstrates our full vitality. For all this we must naturally thank all the members for their regular patronage. We must also thank all those people who by being part of the various committees and sub-committees, enthusiastically and with abnegation give assistance for the benefit of the Club. Among all these people, I would like to thank: the Ladies Auxiliary committee chaired by Mrs Ines Rostolis; the male and female bowling team for the activities that have taken place; Tony Pegoraro for his work done with the Sports Centre and

Squash; Alfonso Pozzebon for his work done with the Soccer committee; Renzo Zanella for the organising of the "Ballo liscio 2000" and for the coordination of the "Coro Veneto". Joe Robilotta for his work in the tennis committee; Mario Bonis, Angelo Bolzanello and Davide Barbieri as well as all the members of the committee and volunteers who dedicated themselves to Bingo; Ketti Pezzin (the Club's honorary secretary) and the office staff directed by John Cobain for their work; the Treasurer, Luciano Benetti; Silvio Dalla Vecchia for his work in the bottle shop to whom I also wish a prompt recovery seeing that he has been absent for a long time due to illness; Davide Barbieri for his supervision of the various Club Bars; all the ladies and Luciano Serra, who have voluntarily worked in Sala San Marco; the Club Director, Pier Giorgio Cappellotto and all the employees of the Club; Rino Tessarotto for his work in the coordination of this publication. I am grateful to all those people who with abnegation operate in the interests of our association to which I dedicate all my passion and sincerely wish that our Club continues to prosper for many years to come for the benefit of future generations. The President

Agostino Martini.

RELAZIONE ANNUALE 1998 - '991111•=1

Treasurer's Report Through the years the Veneto Club's Income and Assets have always grown from year to year, and this is the same for 1998-99. The Club trading statement shows good increases with Food and Functions Income growing from $1250031 (1998) to $1415656 (1999) an increase of 13.2%. This compares with an increase of 8.4% in 1998 and 9.4% in 1997. The increase this year may not be as great, had it not been for the bistro, which was open for the full twelve months of this financial year. Proceeds from the Restaurant and Bar totalled $562928 up from $514808. The gaming income was $1484181 an increase of $198189, or 15.41% from 1998. Mario Bonis ana Morris Dal Bosco are to be congratulated for the job they have done in raising the gaming income figure, every month bringing to the Committee new promotional ideas. The net operating profit from gaming has

increased to $633446, or 16.75% from 1998. On the Overheads and Operating Expenses side, General Function Costs are down from $46376 to $22815 due to not having as many floor shows, probably a good thing, as we should have been more selective of the acts that did appear last financial year. Payroll Tax is up from $15778 to $24913 due to higher wages in the Restaurant and Kitchen. The total of the Overheads was down from $871052 (1998) to $854094 (1999). The Multipurpose Centre whilst not showing a profit, Daniel Morton is doing a grand job. It's not easy to attract people to our gymnasium, because, being a private club, we are not allowed to advertise our facility to the public at large, only to our members. Our gymnasium therefore, requires

ideas, to keep up the interest of existing members. A boxing ring, televisions and Body Pump, are some of the things that Daniel has talked to the Committee about recently. The Basketball Court has good court usage, and we should be proud that Bulleen Boomers (WNBL) play at our stadium. The Tennis Courts are in excellent condition, a new roof over the Soccer Stand and, I understand, that our Soccer ground will be used by some Olympic Teams for training next year. On the Balance Sheet our Total Assets are $9916937 and Total Liabilities $456477, leaving Net Assets at $9460460. Finally, a thanks to John Cobain for all his help. Luciano Benetti

From the Vice-President Alfonso Pozzebon

Once again it has been my pleasure to serve the members of the Veneto Club over the past twelve months. I thank all of you that supported me at last year's A.G.M. and look forward to your endorsement this year when I will once again stand for election.

We would like to wish the "Kings" continued success and future prosperity. Our juniors, as always, remain successful and the programs in place continue to produce players of the highest quality with teams in all age groups successfully competing in their respective divisions and a majority of our teams being crowned champions of their age groups.

I would also like to take this opportunity to formally thank our President, Mr. Agostino Martini and his committee for their tremendous support, cooperation and commitment throughout the year. This past year has been very trying for us all but I am delighted to say that my time working with our President, Mr. Agostino Martini and the rest of the Veneto club committee has been most gratifying and personally fulfilling. What has been achieved is the result of many hours' work by a lot of people, it has been a real team effort and I am proud to have been associated with them. As you are all aware, in my capacity as Vice President of the Veneto Club I also act as the Liaison Officer for both the Bulleen Inter Kings and the Veneto Lions Junior soccer sub-committee.

Congratulations to Egon Schille and Ron Carroll and the endless group of volunteers that make the juniors a success year in year out. Our junior teams continue to set the standard for all other junior clubs in Victoria and our players are used as the benchmark with both their peers and the State's Institute of Sport. Thank you also to all the ladies and gentlemen that give up their time voluntarily at both senior and junior levels to work in the kiosks and gates and to the mothers and fathers that help in performing other various duties on match days. On behalf of the Veneto Club congratulations to all on a job well done.

Success doesn't just happen nor does it come easy. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the administrations of both the Bulleen Inter Kings and the Veneto Lions for the achievements. 1998 was a very satisfying year for the Bulleen Inter Kings. Runners' up in 1997 the team was crowned "CHAMPIONS" for 1998 following our victory over St. Albans in the Grand Final. Congratulations to Mr. Peter Balassone, Rino Tessarotto and the rest of the Bulleen Inter Kings for achieving what they set out to achieve. I thank everyone at the "Kings" for making my role as the club's liaison officer an enjoyable one and for allowing me to be part of the success.

From the Second Vice-President and Liaison Officer for the "Sport Complex"

Our Sports Centre has been operational for over 1 8 months now and it has been very gratifying to observe the progress that has been made since the opening. There are three National Level Competitions which we now host, The Bulleen Boomers - Womens National Basketball League, Melbourne Giants N.E. Continental Basketball Association together with the Melbourne Falcons Australian Volleyball League. The focus on our Club through media and television coverage that we have received has given the Veneto Club great exposure, both locally and nationally and has made many people aware of the facilities we are able to provide. With these sports we now automatically enjoy their presence and welcome the number of keen supporters who visit our premises and avail themselves of our facilities.

Our basketball teams have had successful seasons, the Bulleen Tigers 'C' grade reached the semi finals last year and are presently on top of the ladder and will be in the finals, the Veneto Lions "Bl" were runners up twice and have reached the finals again this year and the Bulleen Veneto team won a "B2" grand final and are cruising smoothly at the moment, our congratulations on such wonderful results and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Tom Forsyth and Mark Ortisi who so generously give 17

My thanks are also extended to Frank Ruffolo and Monica Bello for the work they performed over the past year. Last year a Sports Sub-Committee was formed with a representative from each of the sports played at the Club and who held regular meetings until some time ago.

These meeting are expected to recommence in the near future and I would like to thank all those responsible for their sport, for their understanding and exchange of ideas, which has been beneficial to us all.

Last year after an absence of many years I had the pleasure of organising the "Sports Spring Carnival" which was a great success and would like to convey my thanks to all the participants and to PROFESSIONAL FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER the voluntary

RELAZIONE ANNUALE 1 998 - '99

Io me ne compiaccio enormemente e mi

Ladies Auxiliary

The 1998-1999 season has now come to an end and a new millennium is fast approaching. While others clubs have been experiencing a drop in Bocce players the Veneto Club has managed to maintain its numbers competing in the federation competition quite well, we now boast 60 plus players between men and women. A healthy Wednesday night competition caters for the novice as well as the player who uses the competition for practice and all players enjoy this competition as it culminates in an evening together at our members night. This year saw two new doubles teams enter the federation competition from the friendships made from the night competition. Their performances suggest that the skills gained are sufficient enough to compete in the federation competition. I'm sure this will continue next year and increase the numbers of players enjoying playing Bocce. In the federation competition 1998-1999 saw Veneto

Club players excel in both divisions with the top 5 made up of Veneto club players. State league again dominated the top spots but this year Casa D' Abruzzo and F. Cardinale snared top spot. This year

the Victorian team is again made up of all Veneto Club members. Congratulation to F. Cardinale, E. Colla, M.Velo, V. Brecevic (Team) S. Gatto ( Team Manager.). The Easter Monday and Melbourne Cup BBQ Competition have grown in success and popularity and we look forward to

seeing more people playing this style of competition. Silvio & Rina Gatto have to be thanked for the successful running of these competitions. Early this year a group of 65 persons visited the Marconi club in Sydney for an annual competition between the 2 clubs. We were unfortunate that our bigger guns could not qualify and was unfortunate not to win a close final. The score is one all and we

are looking forward to meeting them on home soil next year. Last year another of our visits of note was to the Yoogali club where 25 players competed in this annual event. N. Azzanello again was a worthy winner here and showed the true sprit of these types of competition. The return competition is due on home soil on May 23 & 24 and look forward to extending the hospitality to this club once again. The return competition of Raffa was a success with E. Colla and S. Gatto winning again. I was extremely happy with the involvement of our players and look forward to seeing all who participate in the return competition next year. Thank you to Renzo Bordin and Paolo Bongiorno for their time in converting the Bocce

It was good to see interstate visitors to our club in the Legends cup. Thank you to the Bocce Federation of Australia and the Veneto Club for their efforts in this competition. The Royal Children's Cup this year broke a new record and raised a total of $3000 for the Royal Children's Hospital. 64 players from 13 Clubs participated and thank you to all involved in the day. A special thank you to M. Angeloni and his family for his commitment to this competition, thank you to the helper's in the kitchen who served the hungry players.

Thank you to the following sponsors for their contribution to make this event such a success. Di Oro Jeweller, Preston Chassis, Winsdor Caravans, F. Cardinale, M. Thank you to the 19981999 committee for their assistance throughout the year, Silvio & Rina Gatto and all the wives who came along and helped for the successful running of the BBQ competition and night competition. Thank you Bepi

They have provided valuable assistance throughout the year with serving hungry Bocce players. The above competitions could not have been possible without the help of our sponsors for the year and thank them for their assistance,in making the sport a success in 1998-1999.

G. Perosin.

Tennis ort Tennis Members, As another district tennis season draws to a close the courts at the Veneto Club are full of action. District Tennis Competition finals are about to commence, Tennis Victoria Pennant Season is underway, and our own Brutti and Belli in house tournaments (the crowd favourite) will begin shortly. Autumn competition season is coming to an end and Veneto Club Tennis has teams in the finals in the Mens, Ladies, Mixed and junior competitions. Good luck to all those competing teams and lets hope we can add more pennants to our collection. Veneto Club Tennis is now the proud home of a Tennis Victoria State Grade Ladies Section 1 Team. This is tennis at the highest State level, and makes great viewing on a Sunday afternoon. It has been several seasons since we have fielded pennant teams and now we have several teams in this competition. We wish all teams the best of luck for the season. Competition tennis is becoming more popular as members realise the benefits of playing regularly and against an opposition of their own standard. The Club is involved in various

competitions so the standard and time of play is varied to suit differing requirements. If you are interested in playing competition please contact a committee member. There will be a time and grade that suits you. The Club Championships were held in November and attracted entrants in twelve events. Participation was better than previous years and spectators were treated to some fine tennis. Full results have been previously posted to members. Congratulations to our reigning champions Joseph Addamo and Lisa Ciuffetelli and to all winners and many thanks to all those who participated both on and off the courts for making this a successful event. A Junior tournament sponsored by the Office of the Italian Consul General, involving children of Italian descent or studying Italian was held at the courts and attracted entrants from all over Melbourne. Such events help lift the profile of tennis at our Club and we wish to thank the Consul General for giving Veneto Tennis the opportunity to host such an event.

127 .

During the Easter school holidays a junior tournament was conducted which attracted over fifty competitors. Juniors are an integral part of Veneto Tennis and we encourage all members' children and their friends to join in junior competition. The Club has teams in the current NEJTA Autumn season with the Boys Sections 8 & 19 and Girls Section 21 currently in the finals. Good luck to all junior teams participating in the finals. It has been good to see the juniors using the courts during the school holidays and on weekends. The participation in the Club Championships (especially in the open events) is very encouraging.

At the Veneto Club Tennis Annual General Meeting held in August 98 your committee was formed. All members from the previous committee remained with the addition of Elena McCrone. I thank the previous committee for their support, and hard efforts (it's not easy getting tennis members to functions and events) over the past twelve months. Leo Poli ceased to be our Liaison Officer, we extend many thanks to him and welcome our new Liaison Officer Joe Robilotta. Please contact any committee member with any queries, suggestions or advice

Vince Dattoli and Glen Busby, our resident coaches, offer tuition for all levels of players whether beginner or expert. Vince is getting busier especially as more juniors are discovering his coaching techniques and Glen has just returned from coaching and training world ranked players overseas. You are never too old to improve your style and ability or to just rid yourself of those bad habits that have formed over time, so consider a lesson. At the 1998 Annual Dinner Dance I was given the privilege of

presenting Dino Bettiol the award of Life Member of the Veneto Tennis Club. The award was presented in recognition of Dino's relentless hard work, dedication, and outstanding service to the Tennis Club. Congratulations Dino on an award well deserved. Thank you to all our sponsors for their invaluable support, Joe Robilotta our Liaison Officer, the Tennis Sub-Committee, and all those who contribute on and off the courts to the successful running of the Veneto Club Tennis. Gaming Report HI dear members I am happy to report that the last year in gaming has been a very successful one. We have not only stopped the decline experienced over previous years but shown a considerable increase. Fun games, friendly service and good value offers have been the key to these years favourable results. The total gaming revenue for the year has surpassed the previous two years results. This positive result has certainly secured our future in gaming and with a new gaming room the future looks bright. The new gaming room design will ensure a more comfortable atmosphere and the ability to provide even better service. Fun games has been a major factor in the gaming room development, with many

of the new machines now accepting notes. An increase in the number of five cent machines and introduction of two cent machines has proved very popular and are often in more demand than the Georges machines. Service standards have been improved by far. The Veneto Club can boast that one of our staff members was the first in the Tatts

Pokies network in Victoria to win a Golden service award. In total we have won two golden service awards and twenty silver awards for service. Staff training, development and motivation along with more working hours has seen an increase in wages but the results have been successful. Members have enjoyed our regular mail out of bonus coin vouchers. These good value offers has seen over one hundred thousand dollars claimed directly by our members. Add to this our regular free drinks, free bistro meals and great in house promotions like Cash Capsule, Mini Golf, Roll the Dice, Tatts Bingo, Christmas Gift giveaway, of course Jackpot Bonus Stamps and the award winning Formula 1 Fever. I do hope you have enjoyed your experiences with us over the last year and look forward to you visiting us soon for a good value friendly fun time. Have a fantastic day

SOCCER at the Veneto Club The Bulleen Inter Kings started 1999 as the Victorian Premier League Champions, having won the Grand Final in August '98 defeating the St Albans Saints 3 - 2 after a very entertaining and exciting game. During the season we saw the departing of two senior players, the Grand Final captain and one of the league's most popular players - Eric "Vialli" Hollingsworth has settled in Canberra as he has a full time coaching job "athletics" at the Australian Institute of Sport. The second player Zdravko Atanasovski after a mediocre season was transferred to Green Gully after the club refused the player's demands. Apart from the existing young players, the club added two new players, a striker Vlad Babic from Green Gully and Sava Rusmir from Altona Magic with which he won two Premier League Championships in '96 and '97. Sava is a very highly regarded midfielder in the Victorian Premier League.

The season has started slowly and at one stage we went seven weeks without a win. No matter what the players did on the ground, nothing came of the majority of games - we didn't win. We always had the upper hand on our opponents but we failed to score goals. In some cases it was quite ridiculous as it was easier to score than to miss, a little bit of luck would have made a big difference. We have started winning again and we hope that the second half of the season will be much better and we should end up amongst the top few teams. This year there will not be the final five playoff and four teams will be relegated with two teams to be promoted from the first division. Next season the Premier League will consist of only 12 teams. Year 2000 will be a shorter season as the VSF have decided with the clubs' blessing to start in October, therefore, playing in summer in

direct opposition to the National League. There is also talk of a National League second division or a Super League comprising teams from the two major states Victoria and New South Wales in both cases all indications are that we will be invited to participate. Until something official is said we take them as what they are rumours. Our Youth League team has just completed their season and most of the players are playing

Veneto Bulleen Junior Soccer Club The 1998 was a very successful year for the club. The under 12's team won the championship in their respective league for the second year in a row and proved to be a well-balanced team all round.

1998 Veneto Bulfeen Lions ynd ,r 11

The under 13's -super league was runner up and again the competitiveness was at a very high standard. Our players finished off on a high note for the year. The under 11's travelled to Adelaide late September '98 to take part in the Spring Carnival Competition and to their credit returned home with the winner's trophy. Their win in Adelaide was a convincing one. Our Colts (under 18's team) put up a good performance by reaching the semi-final. Well done, it certainly was a good effort. Overall, the Veneto Bulleen Soccer Club established itself to be very competitive and playing a good standard of soccer. The sub juniors attracted quite a lot of new potential players and fielded teams in every age group from under 7's to under 10's. These teams ran very smoothly under the supervision of Lina Saladino, being the sub junior Co-ordinator. The 1998 end of season presentation nights, which proved to be very enjoyable, were considered huge successes as they attracted good attendances at both sub junior and junior levels.

In the photo Back row, from left to right: Gaetan D'Avoine (assistant coach), Lachlan Beeston, Byron Tang, Simon McInerney, James Castiello, Mchael La Macchia, Antoine Reymond, James Longo, Cam Cavalcante (team-manager), Victor Pace (Coach); Front row, from left to right: Reuben D'Avoine, Ben Melvin Smith, Nicholas Cavalcante, Luke Sgarbossa, Silvio Colaluca, Daniel Purdevski, Luke Pace.

A sincere thank you to Egon Schille, Junior Secretary and Ron Carroll, Junior Co-ordinator who ,made it possible for the smooth running during the year. A special thank to Anne Marie Schille who worked very hard during the year in operating the junior canteen. The Soccer Club also received a lot of assistance from several parents, Team managers, and Coaches to mark a great 1998 season. The high profile of the Club has again played a big part in the 1999 season by attracting quite a lot of new players in both sub junior and junior levels. Once again, every age group is being represented from under 7's to under 18's (a total of approximately 240 players). 34

The Club boasts three excellent and competitive super league teams, 13, 14 and 16, which perform at very high standards. This year, we will also be looking forward to finishing the season with favourable results. Once again, Egon Schille has given the Club 100 percent of his time and effort as Club Secretary. A sincere thank you from all of us. Thank you to Coaches, Team Managers and parents who provided their valuable time in assisting with the 1999 soccer season. We are certain, this will be a year to remember!

Season 1998 UNDER 12 Bulleen Veneto Junior Soccer Club THEY HAVE DONE IT AGAIN !!! For the second year in a row, the U12 has won the Championship in their respective league, with style again. In a top class competition (and a heavy fixture), the U12 remained undefeated until the championship was secured. They seemed to relax at the end of the season and lost four games in a row. However, the team scored 95 goals in 22 games and only 27 goals against them.

Overall, the season was an excellent team performance, of a very well coached team (coach Lou Tona), a well organised team (Team Manager France Bourdon) and mostly, a well supported team by the parents and the Veneto Club (Junior Soccer Secretary Egon Schille and The Committee) as well as the sponsors, "La Porcella" and "The Cheesecake Shop".

Grazie a tutti Voi, ancora grazie! Un grazie particolare vada al Veneto Club, al suo presidente Signor Agostino Martini e tutto it suo Comitato; ringrazio inoltre it Comitato "Veneto Shooter Club". Ernesto Bertollo presidente

Pero it nostro circolo va sempre avanti e i soci non mancano. In queste poche righe credo di aver detto tutto it bello...

Come ultima notizia desideriamo comunicare it tour dell'isola sud della Nuova Zelanda.

Sir Francis Little, i parlamentari David Perrin, Carlo Furletti e Carlo Carli, it sindaco di Manningham Irene Goonan e it primo presidente del nostro sodalizio Duilio Barro.

Giovanni Castellaneta.

55

Cay. Rino Tessarotto.
