Mr Agostino Martini President Veneto Social Club 191 Bulleen Road BULLEEN Vic 3105 Dear Mr Martini, Thank you once again for the opportunity to support the Veneto Club and its valuable work in the Manningham community. The Veneto Club has once again provided an exciting development of its facilities in Bulleen Road, following the successful completion of the multi-purpose sporting stadium. I was happy to support the application for the building of a roof over the stand at the soccer stadium for the comfort of the many visitors who attend the club to watch soccer matches. The Minister for Planning, Hon Robert Maclellan, has supported the club in its applications to improve the club's facilities most recently with the roof over the stand. It is my view that the Veneto Club has a reputation in the Manningham community which is second to none and it continues to open its excellent facilities to the wider community. Special congratulations to the Veneto Club on 25 years of excellent service and my best wishes for a long and prosperous future. Yours sincerely,

Tuttavia i profitti sono diminuiti rispetto all'anno precedente e 66 a motivo 07

President's Report Agostino Martini
Dear members, It is with immense pride and pleasure that I make once more my annual report on the club which is developing and progressing, not withstanding the economic times and the loss of some of our older members. The recently opened sporting pavilion is already in full use and clearly is appreciated by the young members who are using it continuously and putting on various sporting events. The gym is fully used and provides training facilities for young athletes and people who wish to keep fit. To complement these new sporting facilities, the club has organised a local snack bar and a bistro to provide fresh, moderately priced food at any time to people interested in sport. The soccer field has a covered grandstand after many discussions and after overcoming bureaucratic difficulties. Thanks must also go to the help given by people involved in this project. This new structure will mean an increase in soccer spectators, even in winter. This year too the club has done a lot of work and despite the continuous commitment, new jobs have, been necessary. The sacrifices of the committee and many club members have made each task possible. Maintenance and repairs are also a necessary task for the administration. As you will have already noticed, the sanitary fixtures have been renewed. New projects are already under discussion and among these, to provide better access to the bar and
games room, especially for the elderly. We have been thinking about installing an elevator or an escalator, the new committee will decide which is the more suitable decision. Once more the finances of the club reveal a sizeable balance. Nevertheless the profits have decreased because of the increase in costs and the entertainments and discounts which the club provides for its members. Next year the newly elected committee will have to manage the profits made by the club under the previous administration and will have to make the most equitable decisions. As ever the club is active and present in the community via cultural activities and by hosting events and important guests so as to keep alive interest in our cultural heritage. Our thanks go to the tireless and irreplaceable Ladies Auxiliary who, assisted by many volunteers, have given an absolutely vital contribution since the founding of our association. All sporting people contribute to the active life of our club. The bowlers are a large group that continue to be highly successful both in Victoria and internationally. I would like to thank them for their social activities that they put on in our club. The female bowlers are likewise making a very successful contribution. We thank the Bocce Federation of Victoria for choosing our club as a venue for its social and sporting activities. Soccer is a major part of the sporting effort of the club and the
new Bulleen Inter Kings team is having acceptable results and we are hoping for an even more successful future. We thank the junior subcommittee for the great job that they are doing with young people. We also thank the various sporting committees in our club such as; Tennis, Squash, Shooters, Basketball etc. for their very intense activities. We also would like to express our gratitude to the Veneto Choir and thank them for their traditional repertoire. We should like to extend a special thanks to all the provincial Veneto associations for the social activities that they hold at our club. We would also like to thank the large group of elderly people who use our club as a meeting venue. We must extend thanks to our Financial Committee made up of Mr Duilio Barro, Mr Frank Gazzola, Mr John Cabion and Mr Rino Tessarotto. We must express our gratitude to the members of the Building Committee comprising Mr Leo Poli, Mr Ray Rostolis, Mr Rino Tessarotto, Mr Dino Belia and the undersigned, who have generously contributed to the construction of the new sports centre and in particular to Mr Dino Belia for having offered his work voluntarily. The generous collaboration of Mr Rino Tessarotto in the numerous club activities such as the Building Committee, Soccer Committee and Publication is highly appreciated and we owe him a special debt of gratitude. We thank Mr Mario Bonis and

Mr Angelo Bolzanello for their voluntary work in the organisation of Bingo and in the games room. Thank you to Mr P.G. Cappellotto for his work as Manager, and finally thanks to the employees of the club for their honest commitment and to the office staff for their tireless collaboration. I would like to particularly thank our secretary Ms Ketti Pezzin for all her work in the office and for the much appreciated help given to the undersigned and also to our Treasurer, Mr Luciano Benetti.

Thanks to the Vice President, Mr Alfonso Pozzebon, for his work in the soccer committee; the Vice President, Mr Tony Pegoraro, for his work in the Sports Centre and Mr Ray Rostolis and Mr Silvio Dalla Vecchia for their voluntary assistance in the bottle shop. We thank Mr Davide Barbieri for his work at the bars and for the coordination of volunteers. Thanks to Mr Luciano Sella, Mr Giuseppe Agnoletto and Mr R. Zanella for their work. willingly and with pleasure and I hope that my contribution has been welcomed by all those who have placed their trust in me. We are now at the beginning of a new financial year and I am still in a position to offer my collaboration, therefore I leave it to the members to decide according to their best judgement. I personally thank all the club members and I hope that our club may continue to prosper. Agostino Martini. President

Treasurer's Report This year financially has been a very interesting year indeed for the Veneto Club. With the building of our new Multi-purpose Sport Centre, the addition of the bistro next to the Rialto Bar, the continued success of our Gaming Room, all members would be wondering what sort of year ($ wise) the Club would have. Looking at our financial statements the Club has been able to maintain its margins on trading with those of the previous year. The sales margin $ 514.808 (25%) for 1998, compares favourably, $ 546.941 (28%) for 1997, but what doesn't look good, is that Overheads have increased by $ 68.217 and the trading loss is at $ 302.247. Then the
decrease in the member income (which includes bank interest which decreased by $ 72.016) meant that in 1998 our total loss was $ 213.472. While the Multi-purpose Sports centre is operating at a loss, it's hoped that in time more members will mean that gymnasium income will cover costs. At 30 April the gym had 149 members. The gaming income is down $ 160.062 from last year and so to are expenses by $ 36.773 the net profit from gaming is a healthy $ 542.578. In the balance sheet we still have $1.1 m. cash on deposit and we are now placing a roof over the soccer stand and have upgraded the soccer pitch lighting to V.S.F. standard.
12j
Also the bocce-drome has had a new ceiling added, doesn't it look great. The tennis pavilion-shed also has had a face-lift, the toilets in Sala Venezia have been renovated, and can report that the total cost of the new Multi-purpose Sport Centre (including gym equipment) approx $ 1.6 m. Finally, although, I would have liked to have spent more time at the club, work commitment made that difficult. Thank you to all those that helped me, no need to mention names, you know who you are.
Relazione del Segretario I am delighted to be given the opportunity of addressing our members via this annual book. However, this year I intended to keep this report very brief probably to the delight of those who complained that last year it was far too lengthy. All the major projects undertaken by your committee have been brought to conclusion. No doubt, you will be informed of all this via Mr Poli, our very able chairman of the building committee. You will be briefed on the financial matters of our

club by Mr Benetti who has been an excellent treasurer in these past 12 months. Club membership is enormously pleasing, particularly in the last 6 months with the intake of a large number of young people. I think that this has been due to the new sporting facilities and the gym. As a result the total membership of our club (all categories) is 4,200 - What a delight! I would like to take this opportunity of publicly extending my sincere thanks and gratitude to my president, Agostino Martini, my fellow committee colleagues, all the club's voluntary workers, the ladies auxiliary, the sub-committees, the associations of the Veneto Region, all members of staff, and in particular the administration staff, John Cobain, Joanne Rossiani, Gloria Brazzale and Mario Bonis, whom have given me every assistance possible, and last but not least to my wonderful family who have had unbelievably patient and understanding every time I had to drop their dinner and run.

Once again I encourage all the Veneto Club members to support our soccer teams and in particular to follow the Kings in their quest to be Premier League finalists in 1998. Alfonso Pozzebon

From the "Sports Centre" Manager
I am pleased to present my report concerning the Club's new "Sports Centre". One of my duties is to coordinate the activities of our brand new "Sports Centre" which was officially opened in October last year. The Veneto Club has long been regarded as one of the finest Clubs in Australia and the continued progress we have made in regard to sporting activities, combined with the addition of the new "Sports Centre" must surely rank the Veneto Club as providing one of the better sporting facilities amongst the Italian Community in Australia. Our "Sports Centre" is a very modern facility with an up to date Basketball/Netball Court and Gym. I would like to thank Tom Forsythe for all the assistance and advice given which was most beneficial and also to Tom and Mark Ortisi for coaching the Basketball teams. My sincere thanks to the Sports Centre Sub-Committee for their enthusiasm and continued interest and support and for all the help they have given, and to Mr Frank Ruffolo the Administrator and Monica Bello his assistant who are both employed on a part-time basis, Monica incidentally is a member of the "Boomers" Basketball Team. Presently we have three male Basketball Teams competing, Veneto Lions, Bulleen Veneto and Bulleen Tigers and one Netball Team, the Veneto Lions, and we urge all netball enthusiasts to come and join our teams. At present the Courts are being used sufficiently and our aim now is to encourage the younger children, 8-14 year old boys and girls, particularly our member's children to use and enjoy our Centre and Monica is presently working towards achieving this. With regard to the 8-16 age group, Brian Vaughans, a former International Basketball player, is interested in conducting a Coaching Clinic with a view to recruiting youths to participate in the Junior Jam Hoop League. In the future we also hope to introduce other activities. At present we are working towards establishing a Creche at our Centre which will be beneficial to members. 19

The incorporation of a Gymnasium is an added benefit for our members and this is fitted with the latest equipment. Daniel Morton our gym instructor must be commended for the admirable job he is doing in the gym and presently our membership exceeds 150. It would be pleasing to see more members avail themselves of this facility as this would be beneficial to our health and well being. Associated with the gym we have the services of a PhysiotherapistMasseur, Nino La Scala who is available for the members, we also provide self defence classes in the form of Taekwondo which are conducted by Richard Minca every Monday night in the Sala San Marco. My gratitude is extended to the Committee of the Veneto Club for their continued support and encouragement for the success of the new "Sports Centre". As liaison officer for the Squash, Shooters and the Choir, I would like to thank Bert Caneva, Ernesto Bertollo and Giuseppe Bianco for maintaining their contribution throughout the year - well done. Finally I would like to sincerely thank all the Members for their support and assistance in the execution of my duties over the past twelve months. Tony Pegoraro

From the BOCCE Sub-Committee The new Sports Centre at the Club has impressed all Bocce players which have used the club throughout the year. Mr Agostino Martini and his committee should be congratulated for a job well done. With the addition of the Gym and the basketball courts it has turned the Club into a hive of activity on any night of the week, add to that the renovations to the Boccedrome, it has made playing Bocce at the Veneto Club Boccedrome the best by a long shot in Australia. Club Members can now Boast a world class Boccedrome second to none, making sure the Veneto Club will prosper for many years to come. In addition to the Club's commitment to improve facilities at the Club, I would also like to thank the following people for their help and time in further improving the Boccedrome. Thank you to Marcello Velo, Paolo Bongiorno, Giovanni Gatto, Renzo Bordin, Candido Zanatta and Rino Bordin. Their time has been greatly appreciated by all Bocce players at our Club. In the 1997-'98 BFV season the Veneto Club had 43 registered players and yet again proved its dominance of the BFV Competition, winning a total of 47% of all games played with only 25 % of players in the State League competition. Veneto Club members will be pleased to note that our Club has been again major source of quality players to represent Victoria and Australia. Congratulations to the following for being selected to represent Victoria in Brisbane later this year: Walter Brecivic, Silvio Gatto, Emilio Colla, Giuliano Favaro and coach Fernando Cardinale. The Victorian team for
this year is solely made up of Veneto Club Bocce players (same as last year). With the top 9 placing in State League all are Veneto Club members, it is easy to see why all the other clubs strive to emulate our performances. Congratulations to Fortunato
Noal for leading the A Category, he has had a successful year finishing 5 games clear of his nearest rival. I have no doubt, in my mind he will be successful in the State League Category next year. Emilio Colla also topped the State League list for the Veneto Club yet again.

1997-1998 saw the return of A. Giacomin and E. Stangherlin to Women's Federation Bocce. The two former champions were the shining lights in their competition amassing a total of 60 points combined with E. Stangherlin totalling 32. They both topped their list and showed the true qualities of the Veneto Bocce player, their nearest rival only managed 15 points for the year. Congratulation to these two women for returning to Bocce and doing so well. Also Congratulations to A. Pretotto for her successful year in winning 20 games for the year and coming second on the A Grade list. Her performance earned her selection to represent Victoria, but she declined to participate. Congratulations to C. Gusatto for being selected 2 years in a row to represent the successful Victorian under 18 team. Her enthusiasm and dedication will put her in good stead for the future. Earlier this year the Women's sector and the BFA organized an open competition in Canberra in
which the Veneto Club had 3 representatives who all did well.. E. Stangherlin and E. Giacomin were unlucky to lose against the French team, only loosing the game in the last end of the game. Congratulation ladies and superb effort in their 2nd placing. Even Bianca Martini got into the action, after going up as a spectator acted as an emergency replacement for an interstate player and managed to be the best of her group and make it into the quarter finals for 4th place. Excellent effort ladies and best of luck next year. Again all members can be proud that we had two out of three representatives from the Veneto Club competing at the World Championship in Croatia. Congratulations to Walter Brecevic, Emilio Colla and the QLD player Anthony Parlatto, for finishing seventh and doing Australia proud. Earlier this year the Veneto Club once again played host to the Marconi Bocce Club. Thank you to the ladies Bocce Committee and the Veneto Club for their dedicated
service over the two days. Not to be and M. missed is F. Fontana Ballocco who embraced the new style of competition between the two clubs which proved to be popular. A return competition to Marconi was talked about during the last day and we are hopeful to make this an annual event once again. A special thank you to Mr Tony Frigo and company for their valued assistance in making the competition possible. After two days of friendly competition the Veneto Club won a close final only winning the game 13-12 after the 2 hour time limit. On Monday 13th April 1998 the Veneto Club Bocce Sub Committee organized a competition for its Bocce players at the Veneto Club. The day started at 9.00 a.m. with 40 players enjoying the days shortened competition, followed by a BBQ for lunch. The Bocce Sub Committee would like to thank all who participated to make the day a success it was. Congratulations to all who won prizes (a total of 22) a special mention to the two

In Queensland, all'Italo Australia Club e all'Abruzzo Club. Soccer at the Veneto Club The 1997 season saw the Bulleen Inter Kings play off for the championship against Altona Magic and unfortunately lost in extra time to our cross-city rivals. Our feat was all the more extraordinary because we came from fifth spot on the ladder to play off in the championship game. This was the first time a team placed fifth had reached the Grand Final and all credit must go the players and their commitment to success. The board also deserves credit due to the fact that they stuck by the players that wore the club's colours throughout the year and did not bring an influx of National League players, at great expense, like other club did to try and stop the Kings' progress. Most of the players we had last year remained to do battle again in 1998, however some experienced players were released when the club could not come to financial terms with them. We also lost Marco Bresciano, three days before the season commenced, as he wanted to pursue a full time soccer career in the
National League. To compensate our losses we signed Danny Gnjidic from Springvale White Eagles to partner Eric Hollingsworth in attack, Paul Della Rocca from Thomastown, Agim Sherifovski from Heidelberg, Zdravko Atanasovski from Altona Magic and John Waddle from Green Gully. These players, together with our youngsters, Lenny Catalano and Damian Everetts helped bolster the senior squad, which was hampered by long-term injuries to Dean Tartaglia, Anthony Barbieri and David Iebbiano. The Bulleen Inter Kings are currently in 5th position on the Premier League table with nine games left for the season. Once again the club is viewing a place in the finals as a real possibility and is looking forward to the remaining games and the finals campaign. All the other Premier League Clubs will be doing their utmost to try and stop us making the top 5 as they know that once we are there it will take all their resources and more to stop us. Such
is our competitive spirit and proud tradition. This year for the first time ever the Victorian Premier League soccer season commenced in January in the hope that the summer months would attract more spectators to games. We are delighted to advise that our club's attendance's have increased from last year and our Monday night home games have now become the "place to be" for soccer lovers from all around Melbourne. Our spectator facilities have improved dramatically with the new lights going up as well as the covering of the grandstand. Our thanks must go to the Veneto Club for their tireless work and commitment to help us in retaining and attracting fans to our club. Most of our members will remember from last year that our aim is to be in a position to enter a team in the National League within the next couple of years. In this regard we are having discussions with officials

It takes the creative skills of many people working towards a common vision to ensure success at our club. I would like to thank Mr Alfonso Pozzebon and his many volunteers for the work and help they gave to the club this year. We would like to extend a very special thank you to Mr Agostino Martini and the members of the Veneto Club committee for their continued support of soccer and for allowing us into their home. Thank you. To Peter Balassone, Rino Tessarotto and to the rest of the hard working board our congratulations and thanks for the long and tireless effort everyone puts in to making the club "tick". Junior Soccer Report
Bulleen Veneto Lions The 1998 season has begun successfully for the Bulleen Veneto Soccer Club. This year we have seen the entry of 15 teams, with three teams in the Super League: the Under 13s and the Under 15s and Under 16s. All of the teams have begun successfully, winning the majority of their games. We have introduced two new teams, the Under 14s and the Under 16s this year, and they have settled into their new league quite well. The Womens Team is in first division this year and they have yet to lose a game and are now sitting comfortably on top of the ladder. Well done girls and keep it up! The sub-junior teams have increased in numbers this year as we now have two Under 7s, Under 8s, Under 9s and Under I Os. All of these teams have began the season
on a positive note, learning the basic skills and learning to play in the spirit of the game. We would like to thank all the sponsors for the generous support this year, in particular Como Tilers, Acquila Shoes, Priceline, Harvey World Travel (Ivanhoe), La Porcella, The Cheesecake Shop, Steve and Chrissy Angelodomou and Hospital Service Centre.
Photos taken in the Bulleen Village Shopping Centre; Here in the photo at right we see Mario Marino, Pat Saladino with a young soccer-player. 38
All the team managers and coaches are to be thanked for their enormous amount of time that they put in for their team. Without them, the teams would not be able to run as smoothly and efficiently as they are. Keep up the great work and good luck for the remainder of the 1998 season. Ornella Vittadello.

Tennis Report
The winners' circle on Club Championship day.
By participating in these off court Tennis Club events, a stronger, better on court tennis club will emerge. The past months have seen ongoing changes come to fruition
Tennis Members, A tennis club needs two things: tennis courts and members. At the Veneto Club we have tennis courts (not to mention the other unsurpassed facilities provided on location) and we have members. It is the quality of members that set one club apart from the others. Members that join in club events and take ownership of tennis club functions both on and off the court all help to make for a more successful club. I mention this as our two most important off court functions are coming up namely the Annual Dinner Dance and the Tennis Annual General Meeting. Our main social function for the year, The Annual Dinner Dance is to be held in The Sala San Marco on Saturday 1st August 1998. This is a special occasion where members and their guests can rid their track suits and don their finery and enjoy each others company without the threat of a racquet in their hands! A great night is promised, so come along and join in the fun. If you don't come who will? (Bookings Alma Zanatta 98502498, Raymond Barro 98533839). The Veneto Tennis Annual General Meeting is to be held on Monday 3rd August 1998 at 8.00 p.m. in The Sala Venezia. As I last reported, attendance at the 1997 meeting was minimal.
At the meeting the committee reports on: finances, membership, and events/functions that have occurred over the past twelve months. Members then have their say on what they like, don't like, changes they would like to see made, any matters at all relating to tennis at the Veneto Club. This is the forum to facilitate the changes you want. A new committee is then elected for the 1998/'99 year. I urge all members to attend.
for the Veneto Tennis Club. The "Baracca" has finally been extended and refurbished and we extend a big thanks to Leo Poli and the Main Committee for their work. We are now able to provide our members with a larger area for viewing and better facilities for outdoor functions. We have appointed two new coaches: Glenn Busby and Vince Dattoli. Between them they have many years experience both in Australia and overseas. Coaching is catered for all levels (novices to State grade) and all ages (from tiny tots to grandma's). We extend a warm welcome to Glenn and Vince and encourage members to take advantage of having such high calibre coaching available. (See notice board for further contact).

The Club Championships were held in November and attracted entrants in twelve events. The weather was fine and after three weekends of competition finals were held on a hot Sunday. Spectators were treated to some fine tennis followed by a BBQ. Full results have been previously posted to members. Congratulations to our current Club Champions Joseph Addamo and Jackie Ciuffetelli and to all winners and many thanks to all those who participated both on and off the courts for making this a successful event.
The Spring 97 competition saw mixed results with Veneto Tennis claiming three pennants in the NENTG. Unfortunately our juniors didn't do so well. Congratulations to Women's Section 9, Mixed Section 2, and Men's Section 19. The end of season Men's Belli & Brutti handicap once again left late subscribers missing out. This most popular event, mixing the best with the not so best, by a sophisticated handicapping system, seems to bring the trophy hungry
crowd out in rain hail or shine. The Belli section was won by old timers Mario Basso and Oriano Giovanetti

The Spring Pennant of 1997 was a big disappointment for the Club when, after having all five teams reach the finals, and four into the GrandFinal, the Club had to settle for four RunnersUp flags. As this publication goes to press, the Autumn Pennant Competition for 1998 moves into the semifinal stage and the Club is confident of redeeming itself, and has an excellent chance of winning four premierships. At the start of this season all five teams were graded into a higher level than in 1997 as follows: Team Team Team Team Team
1. 2. 3, 4. 5.
Grade B.1 Grade C.1 Grade C.3 Grade C.4 Grade E.1

The Club's No.1 Team is currently in second position but at full strength for the finals and should win its Semifinal and gain promotion to A Grade for the Spring Competition later in the year. New member, Sam Biondo has had an outstanding season winning all his matches without dropping a game. The C.1 and C.3 teams are both having great seasons and are clear on top of their respective Ladders. We expect Premierships from both this time.
Captain Cleo Nanni Captain Nat Surace Captain Oscar Morandini Captain Sam Magnano Captain Paul Delutis
Team No.5 is also in second position and must play off in the Semifinal. The Premiership will be difficult but they are in with a chance. The Spring Pennant Season will commence at the beginning of August and once again the Club should have at least four teams promoted. The Club would welcome new players and any Member interested in playing at any level only has to enquire at the Office to find a Squash contact.

L'assessore Franco Bazzolini, it Presidente della Provincia Antonio Berghesi, it nostro Sindaco di Verona Michela Surani, l'on.
Appunto it gioco del golf.
Forse troppe feste in poco tempo, poca pubblicita, e vari motivi
restrinsero it numero dei presenti.
