Dear Mr Martini, May I again thank you for the opportunity of supporting the Veneto Social Club.

I have been pleased to assist the Veneto Club with its plans to establish a multi purpose sporting stadium in Bulleen Road and was very happy to be present at the pouring of the first concrete to begin the building of the stadium recently.

After a long battle, the Minister for Planning, Hon Robert Maclellan assumed responsibility for the matter and recently gave his approval and support for a building permit.

This will be a magnificent community facility, particularly for the young people of Manningham, providing multi purpose accommodation allowing basketball, netball, volleyball and soccer to be played as well as room for a small gym and childminding facilities.

I look forward to the completion of the stadium in September.

I am very much aware of the hard work and dedication to this project shown by your club members as well as the work they undertake in the wider community.

I am very appreciative of the support they have given to the recently completed Templestowe Pioneers Village which provides accommodation for senior residents in the Manningham area.

May I offer you my best wishes and continued support in the future.

II «Tesoro di San Varco» se ne va da Velbourne lasciandosi diet.° un tot incancellabi e di Ivano Ercole $ i 6 conclusa 1'8 giugno scorso nella Galleria Nazionale del Victoria, la mostra (San Marco and Venice che, in oltre tre mesi di esposizione, ha richiamato decine di migliaia di visitatori mettendo in risalto, per la prima volta in Australia, it grade patrimonio artistico e religioso del Veneto.

In realta la Regione Veneto aveva, in precedenti occasioni, gia inviato in Australia testimonianze visive e musicali della propria arte.

Non ci si pus dimenticare infatti della partecipazione del Veneto alle celebrazioni per it bicentenario d'Australia nel 1988, quando questa regione fece giungere a Melbourne alcune mirabili opere pittoriche della scuola veneziana del Seicento e patrocine una strepitosa tournee di Claudio Scimone con i Solisti Veneti.

Conscio della forte presenza della sua gente in Australia, it Veneto ha sempre avuto un occhio di riguardo per questo continente, cosi lontano geograficamente eppure cosi vicino per vincoli di sangue e di amicizia. Questa volta, per°, it Veneto ha, per cosi dire, superato se stesso inviando una mostra di valore inestimabile, un vero e proprio «tesoro» composto da rarissimi e preziosissimi oggetti sacri, esposti per la prima e, quasi sicuramente, per l'ultima volta, fuori dal Veneto. Chi ha visitato la mostra ha avuto modo di avvicinarsi a libri e manoscritti, calici e reliquiari, croci e spade,

paramenti e arredi sacri, sculture in marmo e legno, bassorilievi e arazzi, creati da artisti e artigiani veneti lungo it corso dei secoli.

Vale la pena ricordarne alcuni di piu vistosa bellezza: la Pala d'oro della cattedrale di Caorle, risalente al XIII secolo, it mosaico delle Tre Marie piangenti che era stato richiesto inutilmente dal Metropolitan Museum di New York; it calice dei Patriarchi che appartenne all'imperatore di Costantinopoli e per it quale un Indiana Jones dei nostri tempi affronterebbe le pifi spericolate avventure.

Cotano reliquiario

Ma it cuore della mostra, come sottolineato dal procurators della basilica di San Marco, architetto Ettore Vio, era il tesoro di San Marco, non l'intero tesoro, s'intende, ma pur tuttavia una significativa porzione: otto pezzi rarissimi, inviati in Australia con grande e comprensibile apprensione e con grande e ammirevole coraggio. inviare un simile tesoro verso una destinazione cosi lontana ha incontrato non poche resistenze, ma la perseveranza dell'attuale governatore dello Stato del Victoria, Sir James Gobbo e it

sostegno morale del patriarca di Venezia Monsignor Ce, hanno prodotto it miracolo.

A onor del vero, it miracolo per materializzarsi ha anche richiesto un grosso contributo finanziario della famiglia Grollo, la quale si e accollata le ingenti spese (si parla di circa centomila dollari) per assicurare it tesoro. Anche la Regione Veneto ha dovuto sborsare qualcosa come 350 mil ioni di lire a titolo di indennizzo per i musei e le istituzioni che hanno dovuto rinunciare per tre mesi agli introiti derivanti dall'esposizione degli oggetti inclusi nella mostra.

Bisogna infine dare atto al la Galleria Nazionale del Victoria per aver devoluto parte della vendita dei biglietti al Centro Assisi e all'Istituto Itailano di Cultura di Melbourne per aver organizzato, a proprie spese, un'ampia serie di conferenze illustrative della mostra.

It sipario e adesso sceso su (San Marco and Venice» accompagnato da un senso di malinconia che suhentra sempre quando le cose belle finiscono. Ma di questa eccezionale mostra rimarra perenne memoria in tutti coloro che hannO avuto modo di visitarla e soprattutto nei Veneti d'Australia, giustamente orghliosi di essere figli di una terra ricca di arte e cultura come poche altre nel mondo.

Dal Presidente del Club C

arissimi soci, eccoci arrivati a vedere finalmente la realiz7a7ione di quel progetto che mi ha fatto promettere invano per tre anni e che grazie ad una irriducibile costanza, oggi posso finalmente presentare a voi soci. 1 lavori sono gia cominciati e il completamento non 6 distante. Si prevede l'apertura verso la fine di settembre del corrente anno. Questo progetto, che mi ha fatto penare per oltre tre anni, mi da oggi la soddisfazione di aver provveduto ad un ampliamento del Club che portera nuova vita e nuovo interesse presso i nostri giovani. 'to mi auguro che questo mio desiderio proceda nel giusto verso e che i giovani, attirati dallo sport e dalle attrezzature sportive che oggi il Club p&p offrire loro, diventino parte integrale del sodalizio e guidino questo Club verso un futuro di sempre maggiore prosperity. Al completamento di questo nostro "Palazzetto dello Sport" vedre la mia opera di contribuzione al Club completata e dopo di do qualcuno potra affiancarsi a me e prendere il mio posto. Avevo gia accennato che lo scorso anno avrei desiderato lasciare la presidenza del Club, ma il permesso di costruzione di questo centro sportivo 6 arrivato con notevole ritardo e poiche questo 6 stato il mio sogno per molto tempo, vorrei che i soci mi lasciassero la soddisfazione di

mantenere ancora la mia carica per quest'anno, per darmi ii piacere di aprire cia per cui ho lavorato cosi tanto.

La cooperazione di tutti i membri del mio comitato a stata meravigliosa e I'apporto di molti soci e simpatizzanti del nostro club ha fatto si che questo progetto possa realizzarsi nonostante le grandi avversita La mia riconoscenza vada incontrate. personalmente a ciascuno di loro ed anche a quelle personality del mondo della politica, sia a livello governativo che locale, che hanno voluto appoggiare it nostro Club contro le molte difficolta che si sono presentate.

Rivedendo ancora una volta it lato finanziario del Club dobbiamo constatare con piacere che le core stanno procedendo nel senso giusto. Le attivita sociali e ricreative continuano a dare i loro frutti ed il Club continua ad aumentare it suo attivo. .1 soci hanno dimostrato un crescente interesse al club e la loro partecipazione ha permesso questo costante sviluppo. La nostra gratitudine vada percio verso questi soci.

Un grande lavoro a stato fatto da tutti i membri del mio comitato per dare ordine a tutti gli interessi del club e percio voglio ringraziare personalmente ciascuno di loro per la sua abnegazione e per l'appoggio che 7

Nel campo sociale e culturale quest'anno dobbiamo rilevare, quale importante decisione, l'intervento del nostro club a contribuire alla mostra dei "Tesori di San Marco" promossa da Sir James Gobbo per la quale abbiamo anche ospitato personality provenienti dalla Regione Veneto.

Le "Ladies Auxiliary", come sempre, sono coinvolte in tutte le nostre attivita sociali ed hanno svolto un lavoro pregevole facendo figurare it nostro club sempre per it meglio. Ringraziamole quindi con tutta la nostra riconoscenza.

Una schiera di volontari, donne e uomini, danno aiuto al Club in vane mansion. Dobbiamo loro grande riconoscenza e porgiamo loro sinceri ringraziamenti.

Tutti gli sport rappresentati al nostro club hanno svolto come sempre la loro pregevole attivita.

I bocciofili si sono distinti in campo internazionale rappresentando it Victoria in molte occasion, mentre nel campo sociale le partite a bocce nel club sono sempre una prassi comune. Anche in campo femminile non mancano le appassionate di questo gioco. Ringraziamo la "Bocce Federation" del Victoria per la considerazione in cui ha sempre tenuto it Veneto Club.

II "Soccer", o calcio come si vuole chiamare, quest'anno si amalgamato con it Box Hill Inter e it Brunswick Zebras formando una nuova squadra che si chiama Bulleen Inter Kings. Questo fatto intensifica l'attivita calcistica portando al club molta piu gente.

Auguriamo al comitato "Soccer" e al suo presidente un buon lavoro per it futuro.

Negli altri sport, quail Tennis, Squash, Cacciatori e Soccer Juniors, le attivita sono sempre intense e di successo. Ringraziamo i loro sotto-comitati per it lavoro svolto.

Grazie al Coro Veneto che svolge sempre la sua attivita a livello

professionale portando al club molto prestigio.

Le associazioni provinciali venete fanno sempre capo al nostro club costituendone una parte integrale.

Ringraziamo i loro rispettivi comitati per le attivita sociali svolte nella nostra sede.

Il gruppo degli anziani sta aumentando e it Club darn loro sempre migliore accoglienza essendovi, fra essi, una gran parte dei nostri soci.

Grazie al "Finance Committe", composto da Duilio Barro, Frank Ga77ola, John Cabion e Rino Tessarotto; grazie al nostro avvocato Cay. Loris Sartori per it suo competente lavoro nel campo legale.

earest Members, Here we are, at last, finally able to witness the realization of that project which has caused me to make endless empty promises for three years and that, thanks to an unshakable perseverance, today I'm finally able to present to you. The works have already begun and completion is within reach. We expect the opening to take place towards the end of September of the current year. This project, which has made me suffer for over three years, today gives me the satisfaction of having provided for an extension to our Club that should bring new life and new interest to our young people. I hope that my wish will be fulfilled and that the young, attracted by sport and by the sporting facilities that the Club can now offer, will become an integral group within this association and will guide this Club towards an ever prosperous future. At the completion of this our "Palazzetto dello Sport", I will see my contribution to our Club as complete and after which someone could come alongside me and take my place. I had mentioned, last year, that I had intended to quit the presidency of the Club, but the building permit of the sporting complex arrived with considerable lateness and since this project has been my dream for a long time, I would hope that members will grant me the satisfaction of continuing to retain office for the duration of this year, so as to give me the pleasure of opening that which I've worked for so hard.

The cooperation of all members within my committee has been wonderful and the contribution of many members and supporters of our Club ensured that this project was able to be realized despite the great adversities it came up against. My gratitude is personally extended to each one of them and also to those politicians, both at State and Local level, who chose to support our Club against the many difficulties it faced.

President's Report Agostino Martini Upon once again reviewing the financial situation of the Club we must recognize, with satisfaction, that all is proceeding in the right direction. The social and recreational activities continue to bear fruit and the Club continues to increase its assets.

Members have shown an increased interest in the Club and their participation has enabled this constant development. Our gratitude must therefore be extended to these members.

Wonderful work has been done by all members of my committee in order to set straight all the Club's interests and thus I would personally like to thank each one for their self-denial and for the support given me.

In the social and cultural sphere this year we must highlight, as a major decision, our Club's participation in sponsoring the "San Marco Treasures" exhibition, promoted

by Sir James Gobbo, and for which we also gave hospitality to notable figures from the Veneto Region.

The Ladies Auxiliary Committee, as always, is involved in all our social activities and has executed a praiseworthy job, always making our Club appear at its best. We, therefore, thank each member with heartfelt gratitude.

A host of volunteers, women and men, help our Club in a myriad of tasks. We owe 11

them a great acknowledgement and we extend our sincere thanks.

As always, all the sports represented at our Club have performed their activities with praiseworthy outcomes.

The bocce team has distinguished itself at an international level, representing Victoria on many occasions; whilst at a social level, within the Club; the game of bocce is a regular feature.

Keen interest and participation by women is also not lacking in this sport. We thank the Bocce Federation of Victoria for the high esteem with which it has always held our Club.

This year, the soccer team has amalgamated with Box Hill Inter and Brunswick Zebras to form a new team known as the Bulleen Inter Kings.

The amalgamation has intensified activities in this sport bringing a much greater number of people to the club. We wish the Soccer Committee and its president all the best in their work for the future.

In other sports, namely Tennis, Squash, Shooters and Junior Soccer, activities are always intense and full of success. We thank

their Sub-committees for the work undertaken.

We thank the Coro Veneto who always performs its activities at a professional level giving great prestige to the Club.

The Veneto provincial associations always feature at our Club, forming an integral part of it. We thank their respective committees for the social activities held on our premises.

The Senior citizens group is on the increase and the Club will always support and welcome them.

A thank you to the Finance Committee, made up by Duilio Barro, Frank Gazzola, John Cabion and Rino Tessarotto and thank you to our Solicitor, Cay. Loris Sartori, for his competent work in the legal sector.

A thank you for all the work undertaken by my colleagues in the Building Committee: Leo Poli, Ray Rostolis and Dino Belia.

Jo ho sempre voluto trovare it modo pin conveniente e nello stesso tempo pin qualitativo per ogni funzione del Club che io dirigo. Con l'assistenza del comitato direttivo siamo riusciti a dare al nostro Club it buon nome che ha, non solo per Ia nostra comunita, ma anche oltremare. In realty ci siamo assunti, con la delega di voi tutti, la qualifica di istituzione che rappresenta la gente veneta di Melbourne. Ci sentiamo quindi i custodi di tutto cio che fa tradizione veneta, come ben inteso Ia nostra famosa cucina che sempre pun vantarsi di servire del cibo cucinato alla veneta. E legittimo capire quindi che la gestione della cucina non pun dare dei grandi guadagni, dato che it Club intende it servire cibo e hevande come un modo essenziale per radunare Ia gente veneta ed i loro amici. L'unico modo per poter proseguire 6 di avere spesso un numero consistente di commensali.

Ultimamente ho notato che alcuni dei nostri Soci hanno preferito provare Ia cucina di altri club o altre organizzazioni, senza darci la possibility di dar loro un preventivo spesa. Vi voglio ricordare che se come soci considerate it Club come la seconda casa vostra, viene logico pensare che facendo i vostri interessi ĂŠ huono e comprensibile cercare di sostenere it vostro Veneto Club. Le funzioni del Club sono svariate e molteplici, e possono continuare solo se noi tutti si ritorna a rivivere l'entusiasmo che ha visto i nostri soci fondatori prodigarsi per anni a migliorare di giorno in giorno questo Club, simbolo della nostra gente e della nostra terra. Lo svolgimento delle attivita con profitto dipende da ognuno di noi ed io vi invito calorosamente ad interpellarmi per ogni vostro fabbisogno quando volete organizzare una festa.

Treasurer's Report

O

nce again during 1997 the Veneto Club has excelled on its bottom line figures showing that it was able to maintain Income and Overheads.

Food and Function Sales in dollar terms have increased, while we were able to maintain food costs and wages at the same levels, and thereby increasing our food margin over that of 1996.

The Bar Sales have decreased showing perhaps that the ÂŤDrink and Drive your a Bloody IdiotÂť police campaign and our own view of our health, shows that we should drink less. Bottle Shop Sales are slightly up and more members should take advantage of our "At Cost" prices especially in the wine area.

Our Sales Margin has increased, with our activities Income/Expenses showing a big decrease in Soccer expenses due to the amalgamation of our Senior Soccer team.

We have had a good result considering the competition from other nearby poker machine venues. Gaming costs are in line with last year although Pokies Promotion Expenses were up over 1996 levels.

The Balance Sheet - what can I say, just magnificent, money in the bank with few liabilities, I am sure our President, Mr Martini is also happy about this, and he along with the rest of the Committee are like the dog with the bone about spending money, they, will not let go, so that the cost relating to our new Multipurpose Sports Centre will be well controlled.

Finally I would like to especially thank John Cobain and Mario Bonis, who have helped me understand the workings of the Veneto Club accounting, also to Joanne and Gloria a job well done, and to the rest of my fellow Committee People thanks for their support during 1997.

everal years ago I mentioned that it was my intention to lodge my candidature for committee. I remember very well some of the expressions and responses I received, particularly Agostino, who stated that there would be a female Committee member over his "dead body". Well, there are no dead bodies, he is still here and so am I, and I guess, at the time, this was an enormous incentive to prove that a female (in a predominantly male world) has the ability to compete and contribute to the life of our club.

Now, two years later, I feel very proud and very privileged to present to the members the first female secretary's report. It's been a long and hard struggle at times, but again, no one counted on my capacity for perseverance and the ability to fight for the issues which 1 consider vital to the living structure of our organisation. I also feel very proud when I see the evidence of respect that has been given me by my committee colleagues, a respect which mind you I have had to earn but for which I am extremely grateful.

April 30th brings to an end an incredible year in the life of our Club. To list all the events which have occurred in order of priority is impossible, but certainly, the most significant, or rather the most important issues involving our Club were: a) obtaining the permit for the multi purpose Sports Centre; b) The land swap between the Veneto Club and Melbourne Water (at the rear of the Club premises adjoining the Tennis Courts).

Club and the Bulleen Drive-in site. This report clearly defines the limitations of future development within our boundary as well as recommendations of certain modifications (aesthetical) with which we must comply and to which the Veneto Club will respond. d) As the Advisory Committee report was obtained to assist for changes to zoning of pieces of land, it was necessary for the Club to respond and participate in all consultations affecting its future zoning.

Whatever happens in the future, the administrators of this Club must clearly recognise that the Club's land will never be taken for public use. e) Due to the fact that the Veneto Club is built on a flood plain, and certainly would not exist if permits were to he obtained in 1997, the safety factor was a major concern and a priority issue which had to be addressed.

The Club worked in conjunction with the State emergency services to establish an evacuation/safety plan. The Club complied with all the requirements as set out by the SES, and, in fact, as stated by them (SES), the Veneto Club is now the safest building in the entire Yarra Valley.

I personally believe that the events which have occurred over the past twelve months have been of major significance. A mammoth amount of work and time has gone into working together with Local Council, Government Bodies and Professionals of every description such as Legal, Engineering, Architectural, etc., to set all the affairs of the Club in order. There are no longer any "grey" areas, and the Club can be proud to have a president in Agostino Martini who will go down in history as having achieved this end.

My sincere thanks must also go to an incredibly dedicated Club Solicitor, Cay. Loris Sartori, he worked long and hard, but what magnificent results!!!

There have been controversies, legal wrangles of various descriptions, and no sooner was one hurdle overcome that another would present itself. The conclusion - well, we will finally have our "Palaz7etto dello Sport". This, I believe, has been a wonderful achievement for Mr Martini, who not only had a vision, but the determination to see it The new Sports Centre will through. hopefully fulfil the needs of our "Young Adults" for it will not only provide Basketball and Netball facilities, but will also incorporate a Gim, Creche Facilities and a modern equipped Children's Playground with every safety feature.

The extensive publicity campaigns over the past twelve months have produced excellent results in the recruitment of new members. The Club now boasts a membership of 4,181 in total which is made up of: 16 Life members; 454 Foundation members; 801 Ordinary members; 490 Associate members; 35 Honorary members; 23'85 Gaming members.

The refurbishments carried out in the sala San Marco, the Gaming Area, and the Entrance Foyer, have greatly enhanced our premises making the Veneto Club one of the most modern and attractive venues in not only the Yarra Valley but the whole State, and hopefully, at a later date (with the completion of the new building hopefully by the end of

September this year), the update Bar Area and modern Bistro will enhance our premises even further.

At this point, I would like to congratulate Leo Poli, (Chairman of the Building Committee) and his colleagues for a job well done.

A point of interest this year was the soccer amalgamation. As you all know our young "Lions" are now known as the Bulleen Inter Kings and I believe they are a wonderful asset to the Club. I would like to take this opportunity of congratulating the new Soccer Committee and wishing them every success for the forthcoming season. It is also important to note that the Club provides facilities for a total of 16 junior teams therefore providing a sporting venue for approximate some 195 children in the City of Manningham, and I must say it's wonderful on training and match days to see the life these young people bring into our Club.

Another issue which is very close to my heart, and for which I dedicate a fair amount of time to are our senior citizens. These are a magnificent group of people who meet at our Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays for their social outings and when I watch them sometimes I feel they have more energy than I have. My only regret is that I don't have enough time to sit and chat, for some of them have beautiful stories to tell and at times you can actually relive their stories of the past, their home-towns, their early days in Australia, their hopes and dreams for a better future These people have so much to contribute and I hope that someday some will put pen to paper and record their history for it would be an enormous shame for it all to be forgotten with time. This year, it is my intention to address several issues which will improve their facilities, such as, meal subsidy and a bus service in Bulleen Road. I have already commenced talks with the appropriate persons who have been rather negative to date, but again, it is not my intention to give up !!

I believe that it is essential that communication be re-established with the Veneto Region. This is our link with our homeland. Every endeavour must he made to remind them of our existence, strengthen our 19

I would like to take this opportunity of addressing all our female members. With the exception of very, very few, (perhaps five or six) I have never seen a strong representation of female members at our annual general meetings. You are an integral part of our community, you have the right to participate, elect your committee and express your views.

Now, where are all our young people? I know that you have an incredibly busy life.

You are in the process of establishing yourselves in your careers, your business, and you have young families who need you. But please don't desert us, your other family, come home, we need you. The future of this Club is in your hands, we need you today in order to plan for tomorrow. Give us the opportunity to work together by reforming the Young Adults Sub-Committee. arecchi anni fa accennai di avere l'intenzione di presentare la mia candidatura per il Comitato. Mi ricordo chiaramente alcune delle reazioni e risposte che ricevetti, in particolare quella di Agostino, che disse che una donna, per entrare nel comitato, avrebbe dovuto "passare sopra il suo cadavere". Beh, di cadaveri non ce ne sono stati, lui 6 ancora qui ed io pure, e credo che a quel tempo, il dimostrare che una donna (in un mondo prevalentemente di uomini) avesse l'abilita di far concorrenza e di contribuire alla vita del nostro Club, doveva essere stato per me un grande incentivo.

Adesso, due anni dopo, mi sento molto orgogliosa e molto onorata di poter presentare ai nostri soci il primo resoconto di un segretario ÂŤdonnaÂť. E stata una lotta a volte lunga e difficile ma, di nuovo, nessuno contava sulla mia capacity di persistere e la mia ability di lottare per le questioni che io considero essenziali alla struttura organica della nostra organizzazione.

Mi sento orgogliosa anche quando vedo gli evidenti segni del rispetto che mi 6 stato dato dai miei colleghi di comitato, un rispetto che, dopotutto, mi son dovuta guadagnare ma, del quale, ne sono estremamente grata.

Il trenta aprile ci porta alla fine di un anno straordinario nella vita del nostro Club.

Sarebbe impossibile elencare tutte le cose che sono successe in ordine d'importanza, ma certamente, le phi significative, o magari le questioni pia importanti che hanno coinvolto il nostro Club sono state: a) ottenere il permesso per la costruzione del Centro Sportivo; b) lo scambio di terreni tra il Veneto Club e il Melbourne Water (nel retro della sede del Club attiguo ai campi da tennis); c) il rapporto del Comitato Consultivo del Ministro Maclellan sul futuro sviluppo del Bulleen Park, del Veneto Club e della sede del Bulleen Drive-in. Questo rapporto definisce chiaramente le limitazioni di un possibile futuro sviluppo entro il nostro confine ed anche alcune raccomandazioni

Segretarb del Club Ketti Pezzin estetiche alle quali dovremo attenerci e alle quali il Veneto Club provvedern. d) Dato che it rapporto del Comitato Consultivo e stato ottenuto per assistere ai cambiamenti di azzonamento di alcuni terreni, era necessario che il Club avesse risposto e partecipato a tutte le riunioni riguardanti it suo futuro azzonamento.

Qualsiasi cosa succeda nel futuro, gli amministratori di questo Club devono chiaramente riconoscere che it terreno del Club non sara mai preso per l'utilizzazione pubblica. e) A causa del fatto che il Veneto Club e stato costruito su terreno alluvionale, e certamente non esisterebbe se il permesso di costruzione fosse stato richiesto nel 1997, il fattore della sicurezza era la maggiore preoccupazione ed una questione di priority che doveva essere risolta. it Club ha lavorato in accordo con i servizi di emergenza statali per stabilire un piano sicuro di evacuazione. II Club ha soddisfatto tutte le richieste stabilite dagli SES, ed infatti, come e stato da loro dichiarato (gli SES), il Veneto Club 6 or'a l'edificio pia sicuro di tutta la Yarra Valley.

To, personalmente, credo che gli eventi di questi ultimi dodici mesi siano stati d'importanza rilevante. E stata impiegata un'enorme quantity di tempo e di lavoro insieme al Municipio Locale, ad enti governativi e a professionisti di ogni tipo, come avvocati, ingegneri, architetti ed altri, 23

per mettere ordine a tutti gli interessi del Club. Non ci sono pin incertezze e il Club si puo sentire fiero di avere, in Agostino Martini, un presidente che sara ricordato nella storia per avere raggiunto questo fine. I miei sinceri ringraziamenti devono anche andare ad un devotissimo avvocato del Club, il Cay. Loris Sartori, che ha intrapreso un lavoro lung° e arduo, ottenendo risultati stupendi!!!

Ci sono state controversie, dispute legali di van tipi, e non appena una difficolta veniva risolta, un'altra se ne presentava. La conclusione - beh, finalmente avremo it nostro "Palarzetto dello Sport". Credo che tutto cio sia stato un magnifico risultato per il Signor Martini, il quale, non solo ha avuto l'idea, ma anche la determinazione di vederla real izzata.

Il nuovo Centro Sportivo dovrebbe soddisfare tutte le esigenze dei nostri "Young Adults", per loro, non solo offrira attrezzature per la pallacanestro e Ia pallavolo, ma avra anche una palestra, un nido d'infanzia e un modern° ed attrezzato luogo da gioco per bambini con ogni sistema di sicurezza. Le estensive campagne pubblicitarie di questi ultimi dodici mesi hanno prodotto dei risultati eccellenti nelle iscrizioni di molti nuovi soci. it Club al momento si vanta di un totale di 4,181 soci cosi composto: 16 soci a vita; 454 soci fondaton; 801 soci ordinari; 490 soci assoclati; 35 soci onorari; 2385 "gaming members".

1 rinnovamenti fatti alla Sala San Marco, alle sale da gioco e all'atrio hanno veramente rivalutato la nostra sede rendendo il Veneto Club uno dei pin moderni e piu invitanti locali, non solo della Yarra Valley, ma di tutto lo stato del Victoria. E speriamo anche che, nel futuro, (con il completamento della nuova costruzione previsto alla fine di settembre di quest'anno), con il rinnovamento della sala del Bar e del nostro modemo ristorante, Ia nostra sede diventi ancora piu bella. A questo punto vorrei congratularmi con il Signor Leo Poli, (Presidente del "Building Committee") e i suoi colleghi per 24

un lavoro ben fatto.

Un ragguardevole punto d'interesse di quest'anno a stato l'amalgamazione delle squadre di calcio. Come gia tutti sapete, i nostri giovani "Lions" adesso si chiamano i "Bulleen Inter Kings" ed io credo che siano una meravigliosa ricchezza per il Club.

Vorrei approfittare di questa opportunity per congratularmi con il nuovo "Soccer Committee" e augurare loro ogni successo per la prossima stagione. E altrettanto importante far notare che il Club e dotato di attrezzature per un totale di 16 squadre giovanili di calcio e dunque, fornisce una sede sportiva per circa 195 rags77i nella Citta di Manningham e devo ammettere che, nei giorni di allenamento e di gare, meraviglioso vedere quanta vitality questi giovani portano al nostro Club.

Un'altra cosa che mi sta a cuore e alla quale dedico un bel po' di tempo, a it nostro gruppo di anziani. Questo magnifico gruppo di persone si riunisce al nostro Club ogni martedi e ogni giovedi per i suoi incontri sociali e quando ogni tanto li osservo, mi pare che abbiano molta pin energia di me. II mio unico rincrescimento 6 di non avere abbastanza tempo per fermarmi a chiacchierare un po' insieme a loro; molti di loro hanno delle bellissime stone da raccontare e a volte si riesce quasi a rivivere le loro stone del passato, delle loro citta natali, dei loro primi anni in Australia, delle loro speranze e dei loro sogni per un futuro migliore... Queste persone hanno cosi tanto da dare e spero che un giorno alcuni di loro scrivano la loro storia, perche sarebbe un gran peccato se tutto fosse dimenticato col passare del tempo.

Quest'anno 6 mia intenzione di occuparmi di diverse cose che miglioreranno i servizi sociali dedicati a loro, come il chiedere l'ottenimento di un sussidio per i pranzi e di mettere un servizio di autobus che passi per la Bulleen Road. Ho gia incominciato a discutere con le persone addette che find adesso hanno risposto in una maniera abbastanza negativa, ma, anche in questo, non 6 mia intenzione arrendermi!

Qualsiasi sforzo deve essere fatto per ricordare loro della nostra esistenza, per rinforzare i nostri legami e per rinnovare gli scambi culturali e commerciali che erano cosi evidenti negli anni ottanta e all'inizio degli anni novanta.

Vorrei approfittare di questa occasione per rivolgermi a tutte le donne socie del nostro Club. Con l'eccezione di pochissime (forse cinque o sei), non ho mai visto una numerosa rappresentazione di donne alle nostre assemblee generali annuali. Voi siete una parte integrale della nostra comunita, avete it diritto di partecipare, di eleggere it vostro comitato e di esprimere le vostre opinioni. Vi prego di venire e di avere un interesse attivo nella vita del nostro Club.

Adesso, dove sono tutti i nostri giovani? Mi rendo conto che avete una vita estremamente impegnativa. Siete al punto di stahilirvi nelle vostre carriere, nei vostri impegni commerciali, e avete giovani famiglie che richiedono it vostro tempo e le Ma per favore, non vostre energie. disertateci, noi che siamo quella vostra altra famiglia! Dal Vice Presidente del

ÂŤBulleen Inter KingsÂť 1111 n questi ultimi sette anni, dopo essermi dimesso da presidente del Veneto Club, non ho avuto piu Popportunita di ri ngrazi are pubblicamente tutte quel 1 e persone che, da allora fino ad oggi, hanno lavorato insieme a me per lo sport del calcio al nostro Club.

Un gran numero di persone, le quali, con grande abnegazione, si sono dedicate alla gestione e allo sviluppo di questo sport tanto amato dalla nostra comunita. Da tutti ho sempre ricevuto quell'aiuto e quell'appoggio morale che mi hanno dato forza nell'esplicare con amore le mie mansioni nell'ambito del Club e specialmente in favore del "Soccer Sub-committee".

In occasione della pubblicazione di questa nostra rivista annuale, prendo quindi l'opportunita per rivolgermi a tutti pubblicamente ed esprimere i miei pia sinceri ringraziamenti. Tutto it lavoro svolto dai vari addetti nel sottocomitato "Junior Soccer", presso le squadre dei nostri giovani, nei lavori collaterali quali la gestione del "Kiosk" e l'organiz7i7ione dei ricevimenti fino alla preparazione dei vari pranzi e rinfreschi, ha contribuito al nostro palese successo nel campo calcistico, portando it Club fino alla prestigiosa situazione in cui oggi si trova.

Oggi it Club si a amalgamato con altre due squadre: Box Hill Inter e Brunswick Zebras, costituendo presso la nostra cede una nuova squadra di nome "Bulleen Inter Kings".

Con questa amalgamazione it club mira ad uno sviluppo maggiore in campo nazionale per portare la nostra squadra a giocare un calcio di livello pia alto.

Gia alcuni benefici cominciano a vedersi poiche la tifoseria e aumentata di un gran numero ed it club e frequentato da molte piu persone.

Al nuovo comitato che si a costituito per la gestione di questa nuova situazione calcistica, formulo i miei piu sinceri auguri e prometto fin d'ora tutta la mia collaborazione.

Buon lavoro e auguri ai giocatori e allenatori affinche sappiano portare al successo i nostri colori.

nche it 1996/'97, come gli anni precedenti, a stato un anno ricco di tanti successi e brillanti affermazioni dei bocciofili veneti su tutti i fronti. L'annata a stata motto intensa ed i nostri giocatori hanno partecipato in quasi tutte le competizioni.

Vogliamo ricordare che nella "State League" i primi sei classificati giocano tutti per it Veneto Club.

I primi quattro, G.D'Alessandro, E.Colla, F.Cardinale e S.Gatto, rappresenteranno it Victoria al prossimo campionato australiano che si terra dal 6 at 9 giugno 1997 in Victoria.

Da notare che quest'anno che, per la prima volta, it numero di giocatori di ogni stato che partecipera ai campionati a stato ridotto da sei a quattro. Per it quinto e it sesto posto si sarebbero qualificati rispettivamente V.Brecevic e G.Favaro.

La serie "A WEST" 6 stata dominata da un'altra coppia veneta formata da R.Brazzale e F.Gentelin i quali si sono classificati al primo e secondo posto della classifica finale.

Da non dimenticare la nostra sedicenne Christine Gusatto che ha rappresentato it Victoria ai recenti campionati australiani dei Juniors, e suo padre Peter Gusatto che come "coach" ha guidato it Victoria alta conquista del titolo nazionale: complimenti Christine e Peter.

Molte sono state quest'anno le competizioni importanti che si sono svolte al Veneto Club, e sono state seguite da un numeroso pubblico.

Degne di nota sono: "La gara dell'amicizia" fra it Veneto Club e it "Yoogali Catholic Club" di Griffith, giocata in gennaio; la "Nubrik Competition"; la "Children Hospital Cup"; "Mario Jewellers Trophy e la competizione internazionale tra l'Australia e la Croatia.

Anche i nostri pensionati sono molto attivi e si trovano ogni giovedi in grande numero sui campi da bocce, con inoltre una competizione ogni mese.

Come nel Bocce passato, si e disputato it Campionato del Tiro Senior Anche questi, gli ultimi Progressivo che e stato vinto dal N.S.W. con Bocce Campionati Nazionali Senior Robert Mikuletic, mentre it secondo posto andato alla Tasmania con Adrian Venettacci.

Per gli uomini, per la prima volta, si 6 giocato it titolo a squadre che consiste nel punto/tiro, doppio e singolo. Poiche si e eliminata la tradizionale quadretta, doppio e singolo, solo quattro giocatori per squadra hanno partecipato a questi campionati, e non sei, come nel passato. Nell'apertura sono stati giocati i tradizionali campionati del Tiro di Precisione e del Tiro Progressivo.

Nel terzo campionato nazionale Donne c'erano in palio i titoli del Triplo, del Doppio e del Punto/Tiro.

Questo e it primo campionato femminile che si svolge qui nel Victoria.

Nei prossimi giomi dal 22 al 27 Campionato luglio si disputera. in Marocco a Mondiale Casablanca il Campionato Mondiale di Bocce Giovanile che consistera, per la prima volta, del Campionato Mondiale Juniors Punto/Tiro, del titolo mondiale per il in Marocco Singolo e per il Doppio assieme al Campionato Mondiale del Tiro Progressivo e a quello di Precisione.

Nel passato si giocava solo un Campionato Mondiale che consisteva del Punto e Tiro, Doppio e Singolo e un Campionato a Squadre.

Questo cambiamento e stato fatto dopo la rich iesta dell'Australia durante i Mondiali in Francia a Carvin l'anno scorso.

La squadra "verde/oro" sara composta dal Delegato Tony Pegoraro, dall'allenatore del W.A. Italo 'Vigolo e dai bocciofili Robert Mikuletic (NSW), Pat Spataro (VIC), e Ross Deleso (STH AUST).

SOCCER new era in Soccer at the Veneto Club commenced in 1997. Soccer club officials from Bulleen Lions, Box Hill Inter and Brunswick Zebras amalgamated their resources to form a new club in the Premier League of Victoria. Whilst the three clubs were predominantly Italian backed, the working group saw the opportunity to try and attract a diverse group of supporters to the Veneto Club to follow the new soccer team.

The name of the new team is the Bulleen Inter Kings and we have adopted the playing strip of the familiar and famous black and white stripes of Juventus. The marketing and drawing power of this strip together with the excellent facilities available for supporters at the Veneto club have surpassed the board's expectation in the first 13 weeks of the competition.

AT VENETO CLUB The club's home ground and administrative offices will be based at the Veneto club, enabling the club's sponsors and members to utilise the excellent facilities available.

companies for joining with us in achieving our objectives. The soccer club is pleased that these organisations believe in this initiative and share the vision of the new club. Crowds are averaging in excess of 1,000 people per game and it's no coincidence that with this kind of following the team has performed extremely well. The club currently lies second on the league table one point behind the leaders. Although there are 13 games to go this season, all connected with the club are viewing a place in the finals as a real possibility and are eagerly awaiting the finals campaign.

Whilst the Bulleen Inter Kings will pursue a disciplined growth strategy, the aim of the new club is to be in a position to enter a team in the National League within the next two to three years.

The administrative structure of the club consists of 15 board members made up of 5 representatives from the three individual clubs. Each board member is responsible for their own portfolio, which has been allocated according to their corporate and sporting expertise.

The full time appointment of an administrator and coach indicates the level of professionalism and commitment the new club is undertaking. Our coach this year is Michael Urukalo who has had extensive coaching experience throughout Australia and Asia. He has blended the players of Bulleen, Box Hill Inter and the Zebras into a very competitive unit that have earned the respect of all opposition teams and the Victorian Soccer Federation. Soccer Australia is also tracking our progress and to date are very impressed with our performance and the disciplined strategies we have in place.

Central to the success of the club will be the natural feeder system amongst our junior affiliated clubs and our recently signed sister clubs in Regent-Bulla and Springvale City. Bulleen Inter Kings will be committed to the development of young players and the full time senior coaching appointment will assist junior coaches in achieving this objective. Our young players continue to be identified for National duties and congratulations are in order for Marco

Bresciano who recently represented Australia at Joey's level.

A special thanks to the ladies that work voluntarily in the kiosk on match days and to the men that work the gates and car parking.

The amalgamation was not only of players but also of the hard working people behind the scenes that make things happen. These people, from each individual club have also joined forces to make things happen for the Bulleen Inter Kings. Together they tirelessly and silently work to achieve the demands of the club and are to he congratulated at they way they have combined as a team. Well done!!!

he 1997 season has begun successfully for the Bulleen Veneto Juniors. This year we have seen the entry of six junior teams, with two teams playing in the super leagues - Under 14s and Under 16s.

The Under 11 s are coached by Lou Tona and are sponsored by "La Porcella" and the Cheesecake Shop.

The Under 12s are coached by John Moscatiello.

The Under I 4s are coached by Luciano Fioravanti and are sponsored by Crown Coffee.

The Under 14s Super League team is coached by David Cliffe and are sponsored by Juke's Tavern.

The Under 15s are coached by Charlie Tarevski and are sponsored by Sam Meats and Mediterranea Wholesalers.

The Under 16s Super League team, were coached by Ian Rudgley who has since left due to work commitments. The team is now coached by Pino Benign() and Joe Sweeny.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Ian for all the hard work that he has put into the formation of this successful team.

We would also like to thank the team manager who spends a lot of time and hard work for their respective team, to ensure that the games and the team runs smoothly.

e 1997 has begun successfully for Bulleen Women's Soccer. We now have two teams entered in the Victorian Women's Soccer Association.

One team coached by Renato Moreira has been sponsored by Da-Vale Diesel and Aquila. The other team coached by Fernando Molina and Fred DiPrinzio are sponsored by Massimini.

Both teams are playing in the 3rd Division and have begun the competitive season positively. Renato Moreira's team remain undefeated so far and are presently

Sub Junior Report Welcome to 1997 Sub Junior Report. This year we have had a large intake in numbers of boys that wanted to play soccer, in that we are currently running an Under 7s, Under 8s, Under 9s and 2 Under lOs teams.

It's great to see their enthusiasm despite the cold weather and rain on particular training nights.

The results of this championship have been sent separately in one of our newsletters earlier in the year. The finals were held on a very hot Sunday in December and hereunder are some of the photos taken.

Unfortunately the winners' photo was too much in the shade and could not be printed.

In general, there has been a lack of ladies participation which we hope is only a passing trend.

Other Men's Events The second handicap men's doubles tournament for 1996 was concluded in December. Here are some photos taken at the end of the final night which included barbecue, drinks and trophies.

NENTG Mens Night Doubles Competition (Tuesday) In this competition which ended November 1996, we had two teams who won the flag well done!

Also, this year's NENTG night competition has ended and our Club has four teams playing in the grand final. Good luck to all the teams and the results will be reported in the next publication.

Ladies Events We have two ladies teams playing in the Tuesday day doubles in the Heidelberg Districts competition.

This competition started in February and finished on 20th May. Both teams have made the finals. Well done and good luck!

For the Thursday day doubles competition, the Club was represented by four teams out of which the section 10 team made the finals but were narrowly beaten in the grand final. The runner-up members of this team were Maria Fiorella (Capt.), Alma Zanatta, Mirella Mason, Jill Cappellin and Marisa Valentini.

The winter leg of this competition has just started and there are three teams representing the Club in section 4, 7 and 9.

We also have two ladies teams in the Wednesday night NENTG competition and they both have made the finals - well done!

Mixed Doubles

Coaching

In March, we held the first of the two yearly mixed round robin doubles events which have both a competitive and social flavour. This was another very successful day with barbecue, drinks and prizes for winners and runners-up at the end of the day.

The following were the winner:

Our resident coach, Russell, has agreed to lower his coaching fees to Veneto Club members. He will charge a total of $15 instead of $19 per half hour for one or two students and $30 instead of $36 for one hour for three and four players. You will agree this is a much appreciated gesture which we hope will attract and invite more members to start playing and increase our numbers.

Group 1 - Paul Janossich/Michelle Bertuola; Group 2 - Jim/Zevi DeStafanis; Group 3 - Rino Mazzoccato/Marisa Valentini; Group 4 - Val DiFelice/Danielle Crema; Group 5 - Romeo Crema/Gianna Trovato.

In the NENTG competition, our only team playing in Section 2 has made it to the grand final. Good luck and thanks to those players who have helped it reach the finals.

Juniors Our club provides well for all youngsters. They are currently playing in the Saturday morning competition. In the Boys singles/doubles section, we have 5 teams with a total of twenty-nine players. The girls instead have 25 players in our singles/doubles teams. The only sour note is that out of a total of 54 players, only 13 are children of club members. The others are temporary junior members registered to play for this season only.

All of us should encourage the parents of this latter group to become members of the Veneto Club so that the whole family can take advantage of the fantastic sporting facilities that our Club provides.

As most of you know, the sporting pavilion is finally a reality in construction.

Although the building is marginally encroaching upon our tennis facilities and does not incorporate a much requested large tennis room, nevertheless it is to be supported. The Veneto Club and its members can only benefit and gain more prestige in the community at large because of its involvement in sporting projects which are ultimately directed to the young people of the community.

MID EASTERN PALLIATIVE CARE ASSOCIATION (MEPCA) Providing care for people who are living with a life threatening or terminal illness in the Municipalities of Manningham, Whitehorse & Monash.

Would you be interested to work as a volunteer offering practical, emotional and social support to patients, families and carers, and also to utilise your Italian Language skills when needed?

As a bilingual volunteer your work would not just be with Italian families. However MEPCA believes that having bilingual volunteers to call on if required does assist families from non English speaking backgrounds access our service more easily and effectively. It also provides opportunities for mutual learning around cultural issues for all members of the care team.

iamo a meta dell'anno e le nostre attivita stanno proseguendo abbastanza bene. Le nostre domeniche trascorse al tiro al piattello sono state ottime e soddisfacenti. I nostri tiratori si stanno sfidando con soddisfazione. In questi mesi abbiamo avuto delle gare importanti. Come ogni anno stiamo partecipando alle competizioni del "South East Teams" dove incontriamo competitori di altri dodici Club. Non siamo primi nella classifica delle competizioni ma ci troviamo in una huona posizione. Speriamo di fare sempre meglio per la soddisfazione dei nostri tiratori.

E nostro dovere e piacere ringraziare tutti gli sponsor the ogni anno, con grande generosita, aiutano it nostro sport, e questi sono: Veneto Club, Guido & John Zoppi, De Pasquale Jewellery, Lago Smallgoods e Incani Emporium.

ccoci qui ancora una volts con il nostro consueto contributo a questa edizione della Relazione Annuale 1997, per darvi un resoconto delle nostre attivita.

A dicembre siamo andati a cantare in citta. "Carols" Natalizie con un gruppo di circa 500 coristi. Poi, qui nel nostro club, abbiamo contribuito con i nostri con allo spettacolo "Una Notte Sotto Le Stelle".

Abbiamo cominciato l'anno nuovo molto presto, dopo le vacanze, a Fehhraio siamo andati a cantare a Prahran ad un "Woolmark Fashion Festival" promosso dal Premier del WNr" Victoria. E stata una bellissima serata, e abbiamo cantato con tutto it nostro cuore davanti a molti spettatori di tutte le nazionalita.

Poi siamo andati al Centro Assisi dove ci siamo uniti con gli altri due cori italiani a cantare per l'apertura del "Nursing Home" dello stesso Centro Assisi; anche qui si ĂŠ sentito, e i presenti lo possono testimoniare, che 1'unione fa la forza.

Come ogni anno siamo stati al Calabria Club a Bulla per la loro festa di San Francesco a cantare la Santa Messa, che a stata molto apprezzata e bene organizzata.

L'ultima esihizione l'ahhiamo fatta a Templestowe, dove ci siamo esibiti per festeggiare l'apertura di un ritiro per anziani. Vi erano presenti autorita govemative, Kevin Andrews, David Perrin e altri del Comune di Doncaster ed autorita ecclesiastiche, l'Arcivescovo Pell e altri.

Come vedete siamo molto impegnati e con il vostro appoggio e incoraggiamento speriamo di poter continuare ancora per lungo tempo.

53 Coro Veneto Devo terminare questa relazione con una noticina non tanto buona per noi: poco tempo fa mi ha telefonato un nostro corista, Walter Reffo, e mi ha detto proprio cosi "caro Giuseppe, ti devo dare le mie dimissioni perche, proprio, non posso pH" venire a cantare. Non sento piu, quando canto mi

fischiano le orecchie, e tanti altri disturbi di vecchiaia ..." Io a nome di tutto il Coro le ho accettate e l'ho ringraziato per il suo prezioso contributo dato al nostro gruppo. Lui a stato uno dei pionieri... Grazie Walter! Peri) nell'accettare gli ho dato un impegno: ora deve trovare un nuovo membro che prenda it suo posto.

Questo 6 il punto dove voglio arrivare. Cari amici, se volete che le nostre tradizioni venete continuino ci dovete dare una mano. Chi ha una bella voce intonata si arruoli al nostro gruppo, e chi non ha una bella voce cerchi di incoraggiare qualcuno, uomo o donna, giovane o meno giovane, a unirsi a noi. Facciamo un appello a tutti: "venite e non vi pentirete, quando si canta non si fa male a nessuno, ma si fa contenti altri".

II Veneto Club e le Associazioni Venete hanno donato

$16.000 all'Istituto di Ricerca Medica per la lotta contro la "leucemia".

presidente Mario Sonza), la Comunita Montana dei 7 Comuni di Asiago (presidente Luciano Benetti), I'Associazione Veronesi (presidente Renzo Zanella), l'Associazione Trevisani (presidente Bepi Crema), l'Ente Vicentini nel Mondo (Presidente Piergiorgio Cappellotto), e l'Associazione Bellunesi (presidente Valerio Faoro).

I membri dei vari Comitati delle predette associazioni, con le donne in prima fila, hanno affrontato con spirito veramente altruistico questa giornata di festa popolare alla quale hanno partecipato oltre due mila person che hanno potuto gustare i cibi sani e "ricchi" del tempo passato di quando si era poveri nelle campagne della bassa padana o sulle montagne del bellunese.

La seconda fase a consistita in una serata di gala nella sala Venezia del Veneto Club la sera dein I aprile, con la partecipazione, quali ospiti d'onore, dei dottori che lavorano nel Centro Oncologico dell'ospedale e nel reparto trapianto di midollo osseo, guidati dal Prof. Richard Fox direttore del Medical Oncology.

Il Veneto Club di Bulleen e le Associazioni Venete che fanno capo ad esso per l'uso della sede dove svolgono le loro maggiori attivita culturali e ricreative, hanno dato una dimostrazione esemplare di generosity, raccogliendo la cospicua somma di $16.000 per it Royal Melbourne Hospital da destinarsi all'ÂŤIstituto di Ricerca per combattere la leucemiaÂť Il progetto, coordinato dal presidente della sezione di Melbourne "Veronesi nel Mondo", Sig. Renzo Zanella, coadiuvato dal suo attivo comitato, si a svolto in tre distinte fasi.

La prima fase comprendeva una festa nel parco del Veneto Club a Bulleen che, in una splendida giornata di marzo, ha visto la partecipazione di tutte le Associazioni Venete in una sagra gastronomica che offriva ai numerosi partecipanti speciality culinarie delle varie provincie. La festa era allietata da brillanti trattenimenti sociali, mentre it "Trio Brancatella" offriva un piacevole programma musicale fino a tarda sera.

Per un senso di gratitudine e di incoraggiamento e doveroso menzionare tutte le associazioni che hanno contribuito al successo di questo evento; esse sono: it Veneto Club con it suo presidente Agostino Martini, Ii Dr Andrew Grigg (a destra nella foto) riceve I'Associazione Padovani (attuale l'asseegno della donazione dal presidente del Veneto

Renzo Zanella ha donato un certificato di benemerenza ai presidenti delle Associazioni Venete.

La consegna dell'ammontare raccolto e avvenuta in una terza fase, che si e svolta mercoledi 23 aprile, sempre al Veneto Club nel corso di un party familiare.

Nell'occasione Renzo Zanella ha ringraziato le Associazioni Venete per la loro cooperazione ed ha auspicato it protrarsi nel futuro di una costante e attiva collaborazione che abbracci i diversi aspetti della vita sociale e culturale dei veneti di Melbourne. Anche it manager del Veneto Club, Piergiorgio Cappellotto, ha espresso it suo senso di fierezza per questo stupendo gesto di solidarieta verso it Royal Melbourne Hospital, e in particolare per it fatto di poter potenziare un settore vitale della ricerca medica: quello della lotta alla leucemia.

Quindi, it presidente del Veneto Club, Agostino Martini, prima di consegnare al Dott. Andrew Grigg l'assegno di $16.000, ha promesso che negli anni futuri la comunita veneta rinnovern it proprio impegno a favore di un Istituto di Ricerca cosi importante e benemerito.

II Dott. Grigg ha ringraziato a nome dei colleghi e Ms Sally Anderson, infermiera capo, ha spiegato che la donazione verra utilizzata per acquistare dei computer che permettano di approfondire e ampliare la ricerca medica nel campo della lotta alla leucemia.

Sia dunque questo un esempio che trovi molti sostenitori, molta gente con spirito di iniziativa in grado di associare idee e persone in una umana catena di sol idarieta.

nche quest'anno per i veronesi 6 stato un anno positivo, innanzi tutto con la testa degli "gnocchi" molto bene riuscita.

Come ospiti "Giulietta e Romeo" impersonati da Christine Zanella e Roberto Mengato che con i loro costumi hanno poi sfilato alla Moomba di Melbourne con grande successo, accompagnati dal "Papa del Gnocco" Renato Aganetti.

Nel mese di marzo i Veronesi hanno avuto un ospite molto gradito da Verona, cioe it Signor Adriano

Morandini, "Papa del Gnocco" in carica e la sua Signora Marina.

Per concludere la relazione circa le attivita sociali della nostra associazione facciamo presente che ii Signor Renzo Zanella, presidente dell'Associazione dei Veronesi di Melbourne, 6 stato it promotore, assieme a tutte le altre associazioni venete, per la raccolta dei fondi in favore dell'Istituto di Ricerca per combattere la leucemia. Per questa raccolta si a svolto al Veneto Club un "Dinner Dance" con un risultato piii che positivo. tln assegno di $16.000 veniva consegnato ai medici del Royal Melbourne Hospital.

"A mia sorella Olga" Una vera pace c'era nel bosco, dell'usignolo it bel canto s'udiva, tutt'era armonia in quel divin loco, di viver, percio, voglia mi veniva.

Sopra it verde dei prati e delle piante, si riposavano assai gli occhi miei, grande pace scese in me all'istante, della quale raramente godei.

Restai molto a lungo in quel dolce silo, tutto silenziosamente mirando, e non mossi nemmeno un solo dito, per non turbar quello che stavo amando.

Tutto stavo amando della natura, come prima non m'era capitato, e colpito da sua tanta struttura, davanti a lei it mio capo, ho chinato.

ur Association had its Annual General Meeting in March at which time the following people were voted into the various positions: Valerio Franco - President; Tony Lira - Vice President; Angelo Savaris - Treasurer; General Committee Bruno & Maria Masocco, Giovanni & Valentina Faoro, Attilio & Lidia Scussel, Giovannina Lira, Maria Savaris, Angelo Faoro and Franco De Bortoli.

With this band of willing helpers the Bellunesi in Melbourne are able to join together to enjoy much laughter and many a good time.

Since the last report, a trip to Adelaide was organised for the 2nd - 5th of November. This is one of the main events on our yearly calender because it helps us all to go on a short holiday together without the worry of driving or organising accommodation. Happily the weather was good enabling everyone to enjoy their time away. During the four day trip, the Bellunesi met with other members at the Fogolar Furlan Club in Felixstow where they had dinner together. On the second day we visited Victor Harbour, and the Wildlife Park, Horse Tramway and Granite Island. A quick visit to the McLaren Vale winery was also squeezed in. On the third

day we had a quieter time, first stopping at the Chocolate Factory in Woodside, where many a diet was broken, and then onto Gumeracha a small town where a giant Rocking Horse being three storeys high is situated. There is a small shop below the horse that sells wonderful wooden toys and goods and plenty of puzzles.

Another winery was visited in the afternoon in the Barossa Valley. The day to return home dawned all to quickly, but we look forward to the next "long weekend" away which we hope will be as enjoyable as this one was.

On the 2nd of March, 1997, the Bellunesi, along with all the other Associations of the Veneto region, participated in a fund raising day for the Bone Marrow Foundation. Each Association sold foods which are a speciality of their region, ours being Crostoli. This involved getting together for one night to make up the dough and fry the biscuits. Then they had to he packed into bags ready for selling on the Sunday. The Ladies who helped worked very hard and we would like to thank them for giving up their time and sharing their skills. We are sure that the event was a great success in raising funds for this worthwhile Foundation.

A less formal annual gathering for our group is the Annual Picnic Day. This was held on the 9th of February at Gumbuya Park.

Everyone enjoys this day because it is very relaxed and peaceful. We all bring our picnic lunches, or b.b.q. foods, and share many a story and laugh while eating in the bush-land area. There are many activities for the children of the Association at this venue, and some Australian animals like Wallabies, and Emus to see. It is good to be able to walk around after eating too much lunch or to sit and listen to our friends, some who are very 56

good singers and musicians (and some who aren't). Because it is a picnic, it is the perfect family day for all the members of our families from Nonni to grandchildren.

The last event on our calender was the Dinner Dance held on the 3rd of May at the Freccia Azzura Club. This is our chance to wine and dine in the company of our many friends and to dance the night away. And of course it is very important to hold a raffle for those of us who like the thrill of a surprise gift.

We hope that all 300 who attended the night, enjoyed themselves and we hope to see them again next year.

For we in the Committee, it is very rewarding to see the happiness of the many members who come to our events, that is why we are here, to organise and plan ways to bring our friends and families together. If anyone has any new ideas they would like us to try or even better yet, if anyone would like to become part of the Committee, please don't be afraid to come forward, we would appreciate your help and ideas. Also anyone who simply wants to be a member of the Association please join us, everyone is welcome.

We look forward to another year of happy memories and shared times.

nel Mondo Inc. vero che al Veneto Social Club si riuniscono persone provenienti da un po' tutte le parti dell'Italia, ma principalmente it Veneto Club esiste perches ci sono i Veneti e tra i Veneti ci sono anche i Trevisani che sono organizzati in un'associazione che conta 360 famiglie, senza contare le tante altre famiglie trevigiane che vivono a Melbourne, ma che per un motivo o un altro, non sono ufficialmente associate alla Trevisani nel Mondo.

La gente della Marca Gioiosa a gente che, come tante altre persone, ha saputo farsi onore in questa terra di adozione. Per chi guarda verso Melbourne vede stagliarsi verso it cielo grattacieli meravigliosi e parecchi di essi sono opera di gente veneta, ma in modo speciale di gente che proviene dalla provincia di Treviso. Da anni ormai certe nostre ditte, impegnate nel cemento e nelle costruzioni, primeggiano, non solo nel Victoria, ma anche in tutta l'Australia.

Da anni queste ditte danno lavoro a centinaia di operai e sono ammirate da tutti pei la loro bravura e per l'efficienza del loro ingegno. Ma i Trevisani non pensano solo a se, non lavorano solo per it denaro, ma come tanti altri veneti, hanno saputo mettere it loro talento e it loro lavoro gratuitamente per it bene comune e it Veneto Club a una prova chiara e lampante di queste doti.

Noi non desideriamo che it fatto di aver fatto fortuna qui in Australia ci faccia

dimenticare la terra da cui abbiamo tratto le origini. Noi non desideriamo che tutto it passato muoia con noi. Noi vogliamo che coloro che prenderanno it nostro posto un domani continuino a ricordare la terra da cui noi siamo venuti. Noi vorremmo che

Per questo anche noi abbiamo costituito un'associazione negli anni settanta, per questo questa associazione continua a fiorire e a mantenere i contatti con parecchie centinaia di famiglie qui e, tramite anche un giornale, mantenere i contatti con la terra di origine. Fa piacere vedere giovani e non piii giovani, gareggiare insieme.

si organizza un convegno, in diverse citta dell'Australia a turno, per trovarsi insieme con it piu grande numero possibile di gente trevigiana proveniente da tutta ('Australia.

Questi convegni hanno avuto un gran successo gia nelle citta di Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne. All'inizio di ottobre di quest'anno ci si riunira ad Adelaide e si prevede che anche it quarto Convegno nazionale avra un successo come quelli che lo hanno preceduto. Dall'Italia verranno non solo personality politiche e religiose, ma anche un folto gruppo di amici e parenti che approfittando del convegno

Si sta lottando per la qualificazione alle finali di morra giapponese.

Dall'a.spetto dei presenti sembra una cosa molto divertente.

saranno qui tra noi. Grande quindi Vaspettativa e grande l'entusiasmo con cui si sta preparando questo quarto convegno.

Noi da Melbourne, naturalmente, parteciperemo numerosi. A Canberra siamo stati con due corriere; a Sydney con tre corriere e ad Adelaide speriamo almeno di uguagliare it passato.

Quello che fa piacere e ci da un po' di 58

orgoglio e it fatto che ogni attivita che organizziamo ha luogo sempre al Veneto Club. Non abbiamo ancora ceduto alla tentazione di cambiare sede solo perche, per esempio, a piu conveniente dal punto di vista finanziario. Farebbe piacere anche a noi se si tenesse conto, da chi di dovere, che i membri delle associazioni venete sono Vossatura del Veneto Club e quindi meriterebbero un trattamento speciale, come se si fosse in famiglia ... In fin dei conti quello che non si spende nel mangiare si spende nel here e a noi trevigiani piace non solo un bicchiere di vino ma un bicchiere di buon vino!!! e allora da soli i conti alla fine tornano...

Comunque siano le cose noi continueremo a sostenere e a organizzare le nostre feste in quel club che ci a caro e per la cui reali7727ione molti trevigiani hanno dato e dato con generosita.

Da anni a capo della Trevisani nel Mondo di Melbourne siede una figura di trevigiano tipico della nostra terra: lavoratore, tenace, intraprendente e soprattutto "pura ra77a Piave!" e tutti lo sappiamo chi 6 questa persona: Beppi Crema. Al suo fianco come co-presidenti ha Andrea Bettiol da Hoppers Crossing e Peter Buratto da Glen Waverley. La parte finanziaria posa sulle capaci doti di Roberto Pamio da Essendon. La parte organizzativa delle feste sociali a nelle capaci mani di Rino Bergamin coadiuvato bene da Lino Freschi, it primo da San Martin di Lupari (ma diocesi di Treviso!!!) e it second() da Bavaria (quel paesetto che it Signore dopo aver fondato scappe via!) Con essi ci sono i vari Oreste Barro da Olinda, Peter Ferronato da Thornbury, Benito Pegorin da Pascoe Vale, Angelo Silvestrini e Tiziano Signor da Ringwood, Pietro Stocco da Templestowe e come segretario, Padre Giuliano Cavarzan S.D.B. da Chadstone. Anche se le cariche nel comitato sono nelle mani di uomini, chi fa sentire la sua influenza e it suo peso 6 it gruppo compatto e unito delle signore che con la loro bravura e generosita sa far riuscire cosi bene ogni attivita a cui

pongano mano. Tutti questi hanno a cuore it bene comune e sono uniti perche orgogliosi delle vecchie tradizioni e gelosi di esse. Non devono morire con noi queste tradizioni, le vogliamo trasmettere ai giovani e lo facciamo anche tramite la Trevisani nel Mondo. Questo a lo scopo della nostra associazione, questo abbiamo fatto fino ad oggi e questo 6 quello che tutti vorremmo che continuasse.

Oltre it bene proprio anche quest'anno abbiamo unito le nostre energie quando si a trattato del bene altrui. Anche noi abbiamo partecipato per it successo dell'appello a favore delle ricerche sulla leucemia. Tutti i membri del Comitato con le signore in prima fila si sono dati da fare cucinando, vendendo cibi e soprattutto sostenendo con la loro partecipazione lo sforzo di tutte le altre associazioni venete.

Per concludere lascio a tutti un pensiero che descrive cosi bene lo stato d'animo di tutti noi che abbiamo ancora un po' del nostro cuore nel nostro paese natio:

ULTIMO SOGNO DI UN EMIGRANTE Non ti dire mai come son tomato e mai ti dire cosa ho perduto.

Ma se, per una volta ancora, nella mia vecchia casa davanti alla finestra aperta al sole sedermi potessi, e se to fossi mio figlio allora ti direi: Non lasciar mai it luogo dove sei nato.

ebbene viviamo in una grande eine in cui per trovarsi in aperta campagna si devono percorrere parecchi chilometri, gli spazi aperti li troviamo anche qui nei parchi che in tanti casi si trovano a pochi passi da casa. Nel valutare questi spazi con it loro verde, gli alberi, i laghetti dove vivono indisturbati un gran numero di uccelli acquatici, possiamo dichiararci 59

fortunati. Sono appunto questi i luoghi che ci offrono l'occasione per ritrovarci in ricorrenze regolari per i tradizionali picnic.

Il nostro, - della Comunita montana dei Sette comuni - questa volta lo trascorremmo nel Banksia Park.

La giornata non fu ideale per l'inclemenza del tempo ma questo non impedi ad un huon numero di altopianesi, assieme ai loro

quella di voler onorare la memoria di una nostra altopianese. La Signora Angelina Finco manca ormai da tanti anni ma it ricordo di lei vive nel pensiero di tanti emigrati per l'aiuto che hanno avuto da lei e per l'abnegazione con cui agiva nei loro confronti. Per it giomo 16 giugno ad Asiago e in programma una cerimonia appunto per onorare it suo nome; vi saranno presenti un gruppo di altopianesi da Melbourne in visita al Natio luogo.

La sagra gastronomica svoltasi nel recinto del Parco del Veneto Club e organizzata con uno scopo preciso: quello di raccogliere fondi per beneficenza.

In questo caso per I'Istituto "Leukemia Lymphoma" (Bone marrow trasplant) Cancer Research. Buona occasione per ritrovarci assieme fra "montanari e campagnoli" poiche tutte le Associazioni Venete di Melbourne e it Veneto Club vi parteciparono. Noi della Comunita montana vogliamo esprimere i nostri ringraziamenti al dinamico Presidente dei Veronesi nel mondo - Renzo Zanella per essere stato l'ideatore e 1'animatore di questa manifestazione. Un'altra delle nostre iniziative da segnalare e questa: da parecchi anni siamo gli sponsor di un bambino nato a Quito (Ecuador). Si chiama Richard Benavides ed ha ora 7 anni. Di recente, questa assistenza ai bambini del Terzo mondo a stata estesa ad una bambina - Rabecca Kambole - pure di 7 anni da Kafue Zambia. Ogni tanto ci giungono le loro lettere in un inglese stentato ma da cui traspare riconoscenza per l'aiuto che ricevono da noi. Ci commuovono peraltro le loro espressioni di ringraziamento.

II Presidente Luciano Benetti e ii Comitato della Comunita montana desiderano ringraziare Lino Bortoli (Public Relation Comunita Montana), tutti i soci, Mr Don Smarelli, it Presidente del Veneto Club Agostino Martini e quanti ci furono d'incentivo alle nostre attivita.

amici e parenti, di parteciparvi. Con polenta, salsicce, contorni, it buon formaggio proveniente da caseifici delle nostre montagne, e un buon hicchiere di vino, i picnic sono sempre ottime occasioni per trascorrere qualche ora in gradevole compagnia in un'atmosfera di distension.

Non mancano gli sportivi anche fra di noi e fra questi, i "malati di golf 6 da credere, superano di numero quelli di altre discipline. Chi di noi non sente l'attrazione di rincorrere i pallini sul verde, forse anche perde buone occasioni in cui ii contatto con la natura 6 di prim'ordine. Dei nostri giocatori e da segnalare la gara sponsorizzata da Tony Frigo (Provinciale Cup) svoltasi al Golf Club di Rosebud.

It Dinner Dance 6 l'evento annuale che trova riuniti it pia gran numero di persone nel complesso delle nostre attivita.

L'incontro si svolse negli splendidi locali del Veneto Club.

Gita turistica a Merimbula e Canberra della durata di 5 giorni e con la partecipazione di 47 persone, questa fu un'escursione caratterizzata da un duplice scopes: quello di visitare luoghi per puro svago ma anche, nel caso di Canberra, di interesse sociale e storico.

'anno finanziario 1996/97 si conclude anche per la nostra associazione it 30 Giugno '97 per la prima volta.

Noi fm dal primo anno di costituzione avevamo sempre concluso l'anno fmanziario a Dicembre, ma quest'anno ci a stato richiesto da parte dell'Australian TAX Office di metterci in carreggiata con it resto d'Australia.

Per noi non 6 stato un .grande dramma, dobbiamo solo esaminare gli ultimi 6 mesi. Sotto consiglio del nostro revisore dei conti abbiamo considerato la nostra posizione e tirato le somme.

Grazie alla fedelta e partecipazione di tutti i nostri soci non abbiamo che da congratularci con tutti e sperare che continuino a seguirci con grande soddisfazione e successo.

Devo dire che parte del merito della buona riuscita delle nostre feste va suddiviso tra i soci, it comitato e la Madonna di Monte Berico che anche quest'anno ci ha fatto vedere come ci segue facendo smettere la pioggia it giorno del nostro picnic, proprio quando it comitato aveva perso ogni speranza di vedere it sole per quel giorno.

L'annuale viaggio in Italia ha pin di 20 partecipanti attratti dall'usuale nostra organi7727ione e dall'ottimo prezzo del biglietto.

Il mese di maggio a un mese di grande attivita per l'Ente Vicentini a Vicenza, dato che anch'io mi trovo a Vicenza in questo periodo assieme ad altri Presidenti Melbourne d'Australia.

Si vuol continuare it dialogo aperto l'anno scorso durante le celebrazioni del 30.mo anniversario della costituzione dell'ENTE. Io sono dell'opinione che anche grazie ai mezzi di comunicazione di oggi le distanze tra noi e la nostra terra Vicentina verranno sempre a diminuire e ci sara sempre pin facile vivere la nostra Vicentinite..

Dice it nostro Presidente Danilo Longhi: ÂŤ6 molto importante che i giovani siano sensibilizzati ai problemi del Veneto e del Italia e imparino a considerare la terra dei padri come un elemento fondamentale della propria formazione spirituale, civile e culturale.Âť E una ragione di particolare interesse e Vicenza vuol promuovere iniziative utili a noi tutti ed in particolare ai giovani dai 18 ai 30 anni.

Noi senza dubbio ne vogliamo far parte e per questo chiedo la collahorazione di tutti i soci nel farci sapere degli interessi particolari dei loro figli per tutto cio che Veneto e in particolare Vicentino.

Ed ora per prima cosa, desideriamo ringraziare tutti i nostri soci e simpatizzanti che intervengono sempre numerosi a tutte le nostre funzioni sociali, per trascorrere qualche ora in sana allegria fra amici e paesani .

Nel mese di Marzo abbiamo partecipato con tutte le altre associazioni alla "Sagra Gastronomica tenutasi nel parco del Veneto Club e poi alla serata di Gala dell'undici Aprile nella Sala Venezia.

Tutti assieme, in queste due manifestazioni abbiamo raccolto la bella somma di $16.000 a favore dell'Istituto di ricerca per combattere la leucemia.

Lo scorso 4 Maggio abbiamo organizzato Ia tradizionale gita a Mount Buller per partecipare al quarto anniversario della Chiesa degli Alpini.

Siamo partiti con un bus completo di 48 persone e come al solito a stata una bellissima gita. II tempo purtroppo non e stato un nostro alleato, con una insistente pioggerella, che pere non ci ha fermati.

Dopo la S.Messa celebrata nella suggestiva Chiesetta Alpina, con it suono della campana che si diffondeva in tutta la valle, ci siamo sistemati nella sala a disposizione dei gitanti. Grazie ai nostri cuochi, la zuppa intanto era pronta per riscaldarci e poi un B.B.Q. con bistecche e salsicce e anche castagne arrostite. i bicchieri di vino e i grappini abbiamo smesso di contarli.

Dopodiche, una passeggiata al ristorante dei Grollo, mischiati agli Alpini, ci siamo dati a canti e musica all'insegna del cameratismo e dell'amicizia. Verso le tre del pomeriggio, allegri e contenti, siamo ripartiti.

Ora stiamo organizzando la festa di Sant'Antonio del 14 giugno. Questa ricorrenza per note la piia importante dell'anno e siamo quindi certi che sara ancora un successo, come negli anni precedenti.
