Relazione del presidente

E' con una certa amarezza che cerco di presentare la mia settima ed ultima relazione annuale all'assemblea generale dei soci del Veneto Social Club.

Siamo g;unti al termine dell'anno finanziario e maigrado I'inflazione, gli aumenti salariali, i costi di manutenzione, e spese varie, sono in grado di comunicarvi che l'anno 1989-90 e' stato abbastanza positIvo. In questi sette anni in cui sono stato alla presidenza ho avuto l'onore di conoscere molte persone venete, italiane o australiane, ed ho sempre cercato di evidenziare l'importanza del nostro sodalizio per tenere uniti i soci e offrire loro occasioni di incontro e di svago.

II successo del nostro Club e' dovuto alla nostra unita', alla capacita' di programmare gli eventi con precisione, ad una visione positiva del futuro, ed anche ad una certa dose di fortuna. lo non ho mai avuto la pretesa di dirigere il Club da solo. Ho sempre cercato e ottenuto l'appoggio del Comitato direttivo , dei consulenti legali e degli esperti finanzari. Ma credo che it piu' grande supporto sia venuto da tutte quelle persone che hanno lavorato volontariamente, e in tutti i settori, per la prosperita' del Club e di tutti not soci.

Non mi devo assolutamente dimenticare del supporto avuto dai nostri sottocomitati sportivi, giovanili, ricreativi e culturali; da quello delle signore "ausiliarie", delle signore della sezione Bocce, del tennis, del Soccer ecc. Ho il piacere e II dovere di aggiungere i ringraziamenti a due nuovi Sottocomitati che si sono formati quest'anno: quello degli Anziani e dei "giovani-adulti", che spero parteciperanno in modo sempre piu' attivo alle manifestazioni programmate dal Club.

E' per questo, cari soci, che mi sento in dovere di ringraziare di cuore non solo i nostri presidenti del passato, persone meritevoli di ogni elogio...ma anche tutti coloro, uomini e donne, che hanno lavorato dietro le quinte, con umilta' e onesta', onorando in tal modo loro stessi, it Veneto e ('Italia.

Anche quest' anno abbiamo avuto un fitto programma di manifestazioni culturali, ricreative e sportive.

Vorrei elencare innanzitutto la visita nel Veneto di 20 studenti, su iniziativa della Regione e con l'aiuto organizzativo del nostro Club. E' stata veramente di grande valore educativo per i nostri giovani.Ringrazio anche gli accompagnatori che hanno saputo svolgere un lavoro magnifico di 5

guida e coordinamento. Gli anziani hanno avuto l'opportunita' di rivedere i luoghi di nascita e rivivere i momenti lieti della loro gioventu'.

L'organizzazione e' stata ammirevole.

In collaborazione con la Juventus e' stato organizzato it torneo di calcio (Coppa Italia) per la quinta volta. Nel corso degli incontri e' stato registrato un grande afflusso di gente. Colgo questa occasione per ringraziare tutti coloro che hanno lavorato nel preparare tl campo di calcio e nell'organizzare I'aspetto sociale delle competizioni, che nel loro insieme si sono rivelate un brillante successo.

Ed ora vorrei ricordare i vari Sottocomitati, pioche' sono loro tl cuore di tutte le nostre manifestazioni.

In primo luogo, non tanto per dovere di galanteria, ma in segno di sincero riconoscimento, le nostre bravissime "ladies auxiliary", che anche quest'anno hanno ottenuto grandi successi dei quali ne siamo tutti orgogliosi.

I nostri boccisti hanno dimostrato la capacita' di sapersi distinguere tra i migliori d'Australia e si sono veramente fatti onore nelle gare inter-Clubs e nei campionati australiani vincendo numerosi titoli in palio. Anche la sezione femminile "Bocce" si e' fatta valere per tecnica sportiva e tenacia.

La nostra squadra di calcio e' motivo di grattacapi, anche se in buona posizione di classifica.

Chi la pensa in un modo e chi in un altro, ma credo che dobbiamo fare tutti uno sforzo per sostenerla moralmente e finanziariamente. Un grazie sincero alle signore del Sottocomitato "Soccer" per il lavoro che svolgono con tanta generosita'.

Un ringraziamento ai nostri soci tennisti e al Sottocomitato che organizza incontri, tornei e feste che registrano un ottimo successo.

Grazie ai Sottocomitati sportivi piu' piccoli, ma tutti ugualmente impegnati per la prosperita' del Club: Squash, Shooters, Netball, Basketball. Formano I'ossatura del nostro sodalizio. Al Coro Veneto che e' un ente di cui siamo tutti orgogliosi,

vada la mia piu' sincera simpatia e le congratulazioni per essersi esibito in molte occasioni.

Ricordando le varie Associazioni provinciali, come quelle che uniscono trevisani, vicentini, bellunesi, padovani e veronesi, desidero estendere loro un sincero ringraziamento per aver utilizzato la sede del nostro Club per le loro feste sociali. Mi rivolgo loro con questo auspicio: "Frequentate ii nostro e vostro Club. Solo cosi' contribuirete a mantenerlo al livello dei piu' prestigiosi Clubs d'Australia."

Non posso tralasciare di menzionare it grande aiuto ricevuto dal nostro avvocato Loris Sartori e dai consiglieri finanziari comm. D. Barro, Mr. F. Garzola, Mr. J. Cabion. II loro lavoro e' da not tutti motto stimato.

Concludendo ringrazio di cuore tutti coloro che sono stati membri del Comitato direttivo nei sette anni in cui ho ricoperto la carica di presidente.

Nonostante lunghe discussioni e difficili decisioni, abbiamo svolto un ottimo lavoro di gruppo e conseguito veramente lusinghieri risultati. Ho ammirato la leale collaborazione dei componenti i vari Comitati che si sono succeduti e di cio' ne sono loro grato.

Mi e' gradito dare il benvenuto al nostro direttore Mr. Giuseppe Biancotto, con la certezza che riuscira' in breve tempo a esercitare pieno controllo di tutte le nostre attivita' sociali.

Infine colgo l'opportunita' di ringraziare di cuore tutto il personale del nostro Club per il lavoro svolto in questi sette anni con entusiasmo e dedizione.

Queste doti sono una chiara testimonianza di affetto per il Veneto Club e per l'intera comunita'.

Nel ritirarmi dalla carica di presidente auguro al presidente che sara' eletto dai soci nell'imminente assemblea generale, al nuovo Comitato e all'intero Club (considerato nella sua unita') ogni possibile successo.

President's Report

As we approach the end of another financial year in the life of our Club, it is with regret that I present my seventh and final Annual Report. I am pleased to say however, that not withstanding the general current economic slump, and the level of inflation which has contributed somewhat to the increased operating expenses, the 1989-90 year has concluded on a positive note and our Club has financial stability.

people who participated. Also the group of Anziani who were able to return to their birthplace and revive old memories of their youth. My thanks go also to the chaperones and leaders who so ably ensured the smooth-running and co-ordination of both events whilst overseas.

Together with the co-operation of Brunswick Juventus our Club hosted the 5th "Coppa Italia". A soccer event of considerable importance within our community. This provided the opportunity of bringing a great influx of people to our premises and I sincerely thank the organizers, the grounds-persons, and all who were involved in achieving its brilliant success.

At this point I would like to acknowledge our Subcommittees and I will begin by expressing my gratitude to a great team: The Ladies Auxiliary, who somehow are able to, year after year, contribute and achieve enormous successes of which we are all proud.

To our Bocce Sub-committee and Sporting Teams who have demonstrated this ability and professionalism of the game so as to distinguish them amongst the top ranking players in Australia in both Male and Female Tournaments, we are indeed proud of you all.

Our Soccer, although at times it has been a source of worry even though our boys are well placed in the State League, and even if we should at times, have conflicting ideas, we must all pull together to support tilem both morally and financially. My thanks must go to the Soccer Committee and the ladies for their hard work and generosity which has not gone un-noticed.

My thanks to the Tennis Sub-committee and team members for their wonderful organizational skills, be it in the various Competitions and Tournaments as well as social events which are held regularly with enormous success. To our other Sporting Bodies, Squash, Netball, Basketball and the Shooter's Group, although a minority in numbers are all equally as important to the strength and backbone of our Club. My sincere thanks.

My esteem and congratulations go to our Choir. The V.S.C. Choir has achieved enormous success both locally and interstate and it is an entity of which we are all very proud.

I voice my gratitude to the "Veneto" provincial associations: Trevisani, Vicentini, Bellunesi, Padovani and Veronesi, for having had the foresight to provide a need for it's members and for having so beautifully integrated with our Club and using it's facilities as their "Home". Within this unison is formed a great strength and together with your continued support, we can grow and prosper and acclaim it to be the most prestigious Ethnic Club in Australia.

During my seven years as President of your Club I have had the privilege and honour of meeting so many wonderful people: "Veneti", Italian and Australian, but it has always been uppermost on my list of priorities that the importance of our Club never be underestimated. The importance and success of our Club cannot be underestimated, it is not only a meeting place or venue for the many and varied functions which are held throughout the year, but also a symbol of solidarity which is felt by the entire community and this must always be at the forefront of every Club member.

I have never purported to have had the ability of running the Club "solo", I always sought the assistance and support of my committee, legal and financial experts,whom I now thank for having given me 100 Moat all times whenever needed, but the greatest support I believe has come from all those wonderful people who have worked voluntarily without renumeration in every faction within the Club for the benefit of the Club and it's members.

I would like to gratefully acknowledge the support given to me by all our Sub-committees. The Youth, Sporting, Recreational, Cultural, the Ladies Auxiliary, the Ladies Committee of the Bocce, Soccer and Tennis.

My thanks and a warm welcome go also to the two newly-formed Sub-committees, the Senior Citizens and the Young Adult Groups, whom I am sure will participate and contribute positively to the life of our Club.

I would like you all to pause with me and remember not only our past Presidents, worthy recipients of our gratitude, but also the hundreds of people who have worked at one time or another to ensure the continuity and success of our Club. They have worked so hard, with dedication, humility and honesty for a common goal that they brought honour not only to themselves, but the Club, the "Veneto" and Italian Community.

Again this year we have had quite an extensive programme of social, cultural and sporting activities. The student cultural and educational trip to the Veneto region which was organized by our Club in conjunction with the Veneto Regional Government, I believe to have been most memorable and of great value to the young 7

I wish to thank Cay. Loris Sartori, our Club solicitor, and the members of the Finance Committee. Comm.

David Barro, Frank Gazzola and John Cabion, for their invaluable contributions to the legal and financial intricacies which occur from time to time. Their assistance and expert guidance is held in great esteem by us all.

I would like to conclude by thanking most sincerely all the Committee members who have served on the V.S.C. Committee during my seven years as President, through our long discussions and sometimes difficult decisions, we had an understanding second to none, and consequently we were able to achieve very positive results. I admire, respect and am truly grateful for their loyalty and co-operation.

A warm welcome to Joseph Biancotto our Club Manager, whom I am quite sure, that with his expertise and professionalism, will in a very short time be able to exercise full control of all our social activities.

Also, I- take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the personnel of our Club for the work they have done during these past seven years. The dedication and pride in their work reflects their love for the Veneto Social Club and community.

In retiring as President, I would like to convey my very best wishes to the new President Elect, Committee and all the members for the continuous success of our Club.

Dal direttore del Club

Carissimi soci ed amici, E' un privilegio poter ritornare a scrivere sulle colonne della "Relazione Annuale", e lo assumo con molta serieta' e impegno. Vorrei anzitutto cogliere l'occasione di inviare a tutti voi, soci, ed alle vostre famiglie un sincero e caloroso saluto.

Vi ricordo che i servizi di ristorazione del Club sono sempre a vostra disposizione. Spero quindi di potervi vedere di frequente al Club.

Osservando le nuove infrastrutture della sede e i rimodernamenti attuati, mi rendo conto dell'enorme lavoro svolto del Comitato direttivo, dai vari Sottocomitati e dai volonterosi collaboratori degli ultimi anni. Desidero congratularmi con voi tutti ed offrirvi la mia piu' sincera e premurosa collaborazione.

Vorrei inoltre esprimere la mia gratitudine al personale d'amministrazione ed ai capi-reparto dei servizi, non solo per la loro cordiale ed entusiastica accoglienza, ma anche per la sincerita' con la quale hanno espresso it desiderio di assistermi nel provvedere un continuo ed efficiente servizio per tutti i soci ed amici.

Concludendo vorrei ringraziare i membri del Comitato direttivo,dei Sottocomitati ed ogni socio individualmente per avermi accolto con un cordiale "bentornato". Confesso che l'incarico affidatomi non e' facile da portare a termine; ma cerchero' di fare del mio meglio con le risorse a mia disposizione e nell'ambito della mia responsabilita'.

Dal 1° vicepresidente

Come ogni anno, la mia relazione come vicepresidente "senior" e' piu' o meno sempre la stessa. Piccole variazioni sono richieste da eventi nuovi che si sono svolti presso la sede del nostro Club; ma il 1989-90 non e' stato cosi' denso di manifestazioni come to era stato l'anno precedente, l'anno del Bicentenario d'Australia, che aveva visto l'afflusso di numerosi visitatori dall'Italia.

Quest'anno e' stato caratterizzato da diversi cambiamenti nei ranghi dirigenziali; cio' ha portato a situazioni di riequilibrio nei rapporti tra personale, soci e membri del Comitato. Ma con la buona volonta' e la mutua comprensione siamo riusciti ad avere la collaborazione di tutti e in un'atmosfera di serenita' e di distensione.

La mia ultra decennale attivita' come vicepresidente mi ispira un giudizio positivo sulle molte persone che hanno lavorato e lavorano con disinteresse ed entusiasmo per it bene del Club. E' ben visibile la loro onesta' e laboriosita'. Vorrei nominare, ad esempio, it nostro presidente, Cay. Rino Tessarotto, e tutti i membri del Comitato Direttivo e dei sottocomitati sportivi e culturali. Sono persone esemplari che continuano ad operare in silenzio e con grande modestia.

Noto con piacere che i piu' giovani seguono la scia dei veterani e si stanno integrando in modo proficuo nella vita sociale e dirigenziale del nostro sodalizio veneto.

Mi auguro che la mia opera sia stata apprezzata da tutti i soci. Per me e' una grande soddisfazione poter servire it Veneto Club. L'ho fatto per molti anni senza ambizioni e senza mirare a onorificenze particolari. L'unico desiderio e' quello di poter vedere prosperare sempre piu' il Veneto Club, e divenire pun to di riferimento, in Melbourne, di tutta la comunita' veneta e italiana.

Concludo ringraziando il personale del Club, i collaboratori dei sottocomitati femminili e maschili e tutti i volontari. Mi e' gradito ringraziare in particolare David Barbieri che mi offre sempre un validissimo supporto.

Un grazie ad Angelo Bolzonello, chairman della sezione bocciofila, e alle signore del sottocomitato di Bocce, sempre dinamiche e intraprendenti.

Infine esprimo un cordialissimo augurio al nostro presidente, Cay. Rino Tessarotto, che ha guidato con maestria it club negli ultimi anni, sempre coadiuvato dalla so/idarieta' dei membri del Comitato.

Relazione ÂŤLadies Auxiliarr>

II tempo passa e senza accorgerci siamo arrivati alla conclusione di un altro anno di lavoro volontario. II merito dei buoni risultati ottenuti va, in particolare, alla nostra presidente Fulvia Barbieri sotto la cui guida abbiamo svolto un eccellente lavoro.

Ringraziamo le signorine Sandra Franceschini e Daniela Stocchero per l'impegno dimostrato e per aver rappresentato it nostro Club al concorso di Miss Italian Community.

Nel futuro saremo impegnate nella stessa direzione, cioe' quella di organizzare manifestazioni sociali e incontri conviviali allo scopo di raccogliere fondi per opere di beneficenza, come it nuovo Villaggio per anziani italiani che avra' per nome "Assisi Homes for the Aged", e tl Children's hospital, ai quali abbiamo offerto it nostro contributo molto consistente nell'anno appena trascorso.

Un caloroso grazie a tutte le signore che prestano it loro servizio volontario in Sala San Marco e alle signore del sottocomitato "Soccer" sempre pronte ad offrirci it loro aiuto.

The response to this function was tremendous to say the least, and if this is any indication of the general feeling amongst young Veneti and their friends, the Steering Committee feels most inspired to continue with its work. Forthcoming special events and special occasions are presently being considered.

During the latter part of 1989, the VSC Committee identified an area of concern the lack of correlation between the club and its young adult members and ex-members.

Having identified the problem, the club through the leadersnip of its President Cay. Rino Tessarotto, was instrumental in the rapid formation of the Veneto Young Adult Steering Committee.

The Committee started meeting during late 1989 and immediately and professionally started addressing the issues at hand. The most predominant one was that of addressing the requirements and wants of the clubs "younger" members, typically those in the 18-45 age group.

Firstly the "water had to be tested" and the Committee started organising a "Revival Cabaret". It was hoped to achieve a crowd of 250-300 people in order to have the night break even. However, the entire Sala San Marco was booked out before tickets were officially released for sale. In excess. of 450 people would be having a great night with' many more being disappointed.

It must be remembered that the Veneto Young Adult Committee is not aiming to upset the balance of the existing Veneto Social Club, but rather a catalyst aimed at restoring the balance of the club from a family point of view. It is hoped that all members would support these young people for revitalising interest in the Veneto Social Club. It will only be in this manner that the whole of the Veneto Social Club, as a family social club, will grow and prosper on the foundations laid by the original founding members. We owe much to the original Foundation Members and it would indeed be a shame to let their efforts and struggles become a memory.

We have to stress that we do not have all the answers to all of the questions, partly because we do not know what some of the questions are. With this in mind we need to know the questions and issues that need attention. This we can only get from you-young Veneti and your friends. In other words, we are seeking long term benefits for both you and the club. We are very interested in your views and input. Do not be afraid to speak your mind.

We are more than prepared to give it a go and we hope that you are too. Consequently, we look to you and the Club for support because, after all, our main concern is to look after all of our future interests.

Veneto Youth Report The Veneto Youth Club during 1989 saw a marked improvement on the number of people attending the discos. However, at the start of 1990, our members seemed to have dropped considerably.

Why these numbers have dropped we really haven't been able to pin-point.

If you know why, drop us a line!

The Youth Committee is now introducing a new membership/identification card in order to enter any future discos. This will entitle the holder of the card to enter the disco at a reduced price as well as enter ahead of those who do not hold a card. The holder of this card will also be entitled to have a say at ways of improving or changing the disco. Membership forms are available by ringing 436 6196 or the Veneto social Club, 191 Bulleen Road, Bulleen.

During the latter part of 1990 you will be able to see at the disco "live bands" as well as some well known personalities. Enquiries are currently

under way to have a famous personality appear towards the end of the year.

Last but not least, I would like to bring to the attention of all the VENETO SOCIAL CLUB MEMBERS, that the Youth Committee would like to see their sons and/or their daughters on the Youth Committee.

Any participation with the Youth Committee would be greatly appreciated.

Famiglia

Le attivita' della nostra Associazione per l'anno 1990 sono iniziate it 18 marzo con un picnic ben organizzato al quale hanno partecipato numerosi soci ed amici. Per tale incontro all'aperto era stata predisposta una mostra di articoli casalinghi e di artigianato, provenienti dai paesi d'origine dei nostri soci. In molti hanno accettato l'invito di esporre alcuni oggetti-ricordo, anche antichi e di valore, portati da casa (dal Bellunese) quando sono giunti per la prima volta in Australia. Molti bellunesi hanno lasciato le loro case ma hanno voluto portare con se' gli aggetti di use quotidiano. La mostra e' stata veramente un'iniziativa meravigliosa. Questa festa del 18 marzo si concludeva con una ricca lotteria e con un "arrivederci"alla cena danzante annuale del 26 maggio al Freccia Azzurra Club di Dandenong, per festeggiare it 6° anniversario del nostro sodalizio.

Un augurio vivissimo a tutti i soci e le espressioni piu' cordiali di gratitudine al presidente e al Comitato del Veneto Social Club.

Associazione Trevisani nel Mondo II 1989 e' stato un anno pieno di attivita' e di successi. Ci fu un'ottima collaborazione tra Cornitato Direttivo e soci per cui tutte le iniziative ebbero buon esito sia socialmente che culturalmente. Come ogni anno furono organizzate quattro cene danzanti: due in citta' al Veneto Social Club e due in periferia: al Freccia Azzurra Club e a Werribee. Certamente la serata piu' cospicua e' stata quella che ha concluso tutte le feste sociali: il dinner dance di venerdi' 17 novembre nella sala Venezia del Veneto Social Club.

Erano presenti 416 persone tra cui il Console Generale d'Italia a Melbourne con la signora, i presidenti delle Associazioni Padovani e Vicentini, it presidente del Veneto Club e it presidente dell'Associazione Alpini. Durante questa serata furono premiati 21 pionieri dopo aver compiuto piu' di 25 anni di vita australiana.

Oltre alle cene danzanti fu organizzato con successo il picnic la prima domenica di marzo. Tempo bellissimo, molta genie e tanta allegria.

Nel mese di giugno da anni ormai una comitiva di Trevisani vanno a passare un fine settimana con gli amici di Myrtleford e con rappresentanti da Griffith si va a pranzare sulla cima del Monte Buffalo in mezzo alla neve, che pero' viene affrontata con buoni bicchieri di vino e con ottime bistecche e salcicce a cui si aggiungono i tradizionali crostoli.

Dal 7 al 14 agosto la gita di otto giorni, e questa volta fu di turno la Tasmania. Mentre nel continente il tempo e' stato inclemente, nell'isola della mela invece i 45 gitanti godettero di un sole veramente tiepido e quasi da estate di San Martino. Ebbero modo di visitare tutta l'isola percorrendola tutt'intorno e facendo puntate anche verso il centro. Una vera meravigliosa esperienza.

Nel mese di ottobre due rappresentanti dell'A.T.M. andarono a Sydney per incontrarsi con altri rappresentanti da tutta Australia per decidere dove e quando avra' luogo it raduno generale di tutti i Trevisani. Fu deciso che tale raduno abbia luogo ogni tre anni e in citta' diverse per dare a tutti modo di visitare e ospitare le centinaia di Trevisani. Nel 1990 saranno prese definitive decisioni.

E cosi', mentre i Trevisani si divertono e cercano di tenere vive le vecchie tradizioni, pensano anche agli altri. Col profitto delle feste hanno donato una cameretta al Villaggio Vaccari e nello stesso tempo sponsorizzano un bambino nel Brasile pagando per I'educazione fino a che abbia raggiunto i 16 anni di eta'.

E per il futuro? A maggio del 1990 andranno per otto giorni nel centro dell'Australia e nel 1992 si prevede un giro di 13-14 giorni o in Terra Santa o in Egitto, oltre naturalmente una visita ai propri cart "in paese".

Ente Vicentini nel Mondo Anche il 1989-90 e' stato per not vicentini un anno di costante impegno ma coronato da molte soddisfazioni. I soci sono aumentati e la partecipazione alle nostre feste sociali ha registrato un lusinghiero crescendo.

L'assemblea generale si e' svolta alla presenza di 350 soci, e quali ospiti d'onore a questo importante raduno comunitario, abbiamo avuto it ministro per gli Affari Etnici del Victoria (ora passato ad un altro dicastero) on. Andrew Mc Cutcheon, it dott. Danilo Longhi presidente della Camera di Commercio di Vicenza e dell'Ente Vicentini nel Mondo, tl dott. Antonio Corazzin, sindaco di Vicenza, e tl grand'uff. Carlo Valmorbida.

Essi ci hanno illustrato tl programma della "settimana australiana a Vicenza" che avra' luogo nel prossimo lugiio.

II tradizionale picnic annuale ha visto affollato it Banksia Park. Molte persone non hanno potuto parteciparvi a causa della scarsita' di parcheggio.

Nel futuro cercheremo una zona piu' vasta per poter accontentare tutti.

La "gita dell'amicizia" (e' ii nome che diamo ad una escursione in qualche localita' storica del Victoria) ha avuto come meta Morwell e le centrali elettriche del Gippsland. Molti vicentini del luogo si sono associati ai 180 gitanti per una gustosa consumazione di caldarroste.

II prossimo appuntamento sara' per il 14 luglio.

Si trattera' di una cena danzante al Veneto Club.

La novita' di quest'anno sara' l'estrazione del

biglietto per un viaggio aereo andata-ritorno in Italia, offerto dalla Giramondo Travel per i soci in regola con it tesseramento 1990.

Seguiranno le seguenti manifestazioni: 9 settembre, festa della Madonna di Monte Berico; 6 ottobre, cena danzante al Veneto Club assieme ai vicentini che giungeranno da Adelaide; 3-11 novembre, gita nel Queensland, alla barriera corallina; 26 dicembre, consueta bicchierata per i soci del Veneto Social Club.

Sperando che tl programma soddisfi la maggioranza dei soci, non ci resta che augurare a voi tutti buon divertimento.

Associazione Padovani nel Mondo L'anno sociale 1989/90 appena terminato e' stato per la nostra Associazione un anno motto attivo e possiamo pure dire anche particolarmente impegnativo.

Ci siamo infatti cimentati per la prima volta con una nostra candidata, al concorso per Miss Italian Community. II nostro gruppo e' motto piccolo e percio' sulla carta le probabilita' di un buon piazzamento erano minime.

Siamo partiti in sordina, ma poi via via ci siamo accorti che tl diavolo non era poi cosi' brutto come sembrava, ed allora incoraggiati dal buon risultato iniziale abbiamo spinto al massimo ed alla fine abbiamo ottenuto un onorevole secondo posto.

Per l'attivita' sociale, abbiamo organizzato due cQne-danzanti. In particolare quella per la festa del Santo e' risultata ben riuscita. Abbiamo avuto diverse gite di un giorno alle "Pokies" e una gita di quattro giorni a Canberra, lago di Jindabyne, Thredbo con visita del monte Kosciusko, it piu' alto d'Australia.

Un centinaio di amici ha festeggiato con una simpatica cena la consegna delle medagtie d'oro da parte della Camera di Cornmercio di Padova a due nostri soci.

I soci dell'Associazione Padovani di Adelaide, ci hanno ricambiato la visita e sono stati accorti con una cena-danzante al V.S.C. ed it giorno successivo con un B.B.Q. II 27 marzo scorso e' stata tenuta al V.S.C. l'annuale assemblea generale dei soci con l'elezione del nuovo Comitato che ora e' cosi' composto:

La nostra candidata, sig.na Katia Miolo, ha infatti consegnato a favore del Villaggio Vaccari la bella somma di $19,250.

Relazione del segretario

Anche se il 1990 non e' stato ricco di avvenimenti singolari come il 1989, anno in cui si svolsero nel nostro Club molte manifestazioni veramente memorabili a motivo del Bicentenario d'Australia, tuttavia la vita sociale e' stata ugualmente intensa, e sono lieto che siano stati raggiunti gli obiettivi che it Comitato aveva programmato all'inizio del suo mandato di quest'anno.

Cio' che considero un aspetto importante del mio operato, e' quello d'essere riuscito ad interessare i giovani della seconda generazione alla vita del Club e a farli partecipare in modo attivo alle iniziative di utilita' comune. Questo e' stato realizzato per iniziativa e grazie alla guida esperta del nostro presidente Rino Tessarotto.

Anche a nome del presidente Tessarotto e del Comitato direttivo, rivolgo un caloroso "BENVENUTO" allo Young Adult Group, e spero sinceramente che i membri di questo gruppo riescano a dare vigore, giusto orientamento e continuita' al Club.

Sono molto lieto che di recente vi sia stato un discreto aumento di soci giovani, sotto i 21 anni. Cio' e' frutto di un progetto che tende ad agevolare it tesseramento di ragazzi e ragazze figli di soci. Spero che questo avra' un seguito, soprattutto ora che e' stato formato lo Young Adult Group. Ad esso bisognera' offrire supporto e continuita'.

Il numero dei soci tesserati e' aumentato, ed attualmente contiamo 6 soci a vita, 545 soci fondatori, 777 soci ordinari, 405 membri associati,.con un aumento di 67 tesserati rispetto allo scorso anno. Il motivo principale di tale incremento e' da riscontrarsi nel riavvicinamento dei giovani-adulti che hanno costituito un gruppo attivo. Credo si tratti di un chiaro indizio dell'esistenza di un "revival" tra i nostri giovani. Essi hanno it desiderio di riscoprire le radici della loro identita', in modo da essere fieri della loro origine e del loro patrimonio culturale.

II Club puo' anche essere orgoglioso d'aver partecipato a molte manifestazioni culturali, sportive e a scopo di beneficienza per aiutare organizzazioni di carita'. Desidero ringraziare tutti i soci, i Sottocomitati ed in particolare le Ladies Auxiliary per l'impegno dimostrato in questo specifico campo.

Sono riconoscente a tutti i volontari, it cui lavoro e' di grande giovamento per l'economia del Club. Merita veramente d'essere apprezzato con una esplicita dimostrazione di gratitudine.

Poiche' non ho intenzione di riproporre la mia candidatura nelle prossime elezioni del nuovo Comitato, sento it dovere di esprimere apertamente la mia riconoscenza al nostro presidente Cay. Rino Tessarotto ed ai colleghi membri del Comitato direttivo per la loro assistenza e it costante supporto. La loro dedizione e' stata esemplare. Grazie all'ex manager Mario Angelucci e un caloroso "bentornato" a Joseph Biancotto che spero avra' una lunga e felice convivenza con il Club.

Desidero ringraziare il personale dell'ufficio d'amministrazione sia del passato che del presente, sempre premuroso nell'adempiere al proprio dovere, con un entusiasmo che va al di Ia' delle prestazioni offerte da semplici stipendiati.

A tutti i soci ed al personale d'ufficio non posso che dire: "Grazie! Avete fatto un buon lavoro!".

Concludendo intendo esprimere la "speranza" che nel futuro i giovani soci prendano parte attiva alla vita del nostro Club, anche presentando la loro candidatura a far parte del Comitato direttivo, in modo che vi sia progresso e innesto di energie e idee nuove. In questo "unison" si trova la forza-,che guidera' it nostro Club verso un avvenire sereno e prospero.

Secretary's Report

Although 1990 has not been as exciting and glamorous as 1989, in that the many and varied functions held at our Club which were generated by the Australian Bi-Centenary year were truly memorable, it has still been a year filled with social activities, and I am pleased that the goals which the Committee set at the beginning of the year have been achieved.

What I consider to have been my main goal, was to group together and unite our youth, our second generation descendants, into an active body so as to enable them to contribute positively to the life and activeness of the Club. This task, with the initiative and guidance of our President, Cay. Rino Tessarotto was achieved.

On behalf of our President and Committee I WELCOME the Young Adult group, and I sincerely hope that their input will give the Club new life, direction and continuity.

I am very pleased that, recently there has been a marked increase in the number of young people under the age of 21 years applying for Club Membership, and thus taking advantage of the special reduced joining fee rate applicable to sons and daughters of members. I hope that THIS WILL CONTINUE, especially now with the existence of the Young Adult group to give them a real sense of belonging.

Membership has increased and we now have 6 Life, 545 Foundation, 777 ordinary and 405 Associate Members, being an increase of 67 members from last year, which is partly due to new members from the Young Adult Group. This I believe is a clear indication that there is a revival of our youth, and that they have the desire to rediscover the roots of their identity so that they may be proud of their origin and heritage.

The Club can also be proud of the way it has participated in Social, Cultural, Sporting and Fund Raising activities, and for it's contribution to Charitable Organizations. For this I thank the members, subcommittees, and in particular the Ladies Auxiliary for their enormous efforts.

I feel very grateful to all the Voluntary Workers whose contribution to the Club's economy can never be evaluated, but can most certainly be appreciated with heartfelt thanks.

As I will not be seeking re-election for the forthcoming term, I would like to publicly express my gratitude to our President, Cay. Rino Tessarotto and my fellow committee members for their assistance and support. Their unselfish dedication is commendable.

My thanks to the former Manager, Mario Angelucci, and a warm welcome-back to Joseph Biancotto, whom I hope will have a long and happy association with the Club. I would like to thank the members of the office staff past and present for all their assistance, they work with such pride for the benefit of our Club which really goes beyond remuneration.

To all the Club members and staff, thank you.for a job well done!

I would like to conclude by expressing my "hopes" for the future, that the younger members take an active part in the life of our Club by nominating for Committee so that we may have not only a continuity of direction but also a fresh infusion of ideas, and that this unison will be the strength which will guide our Club into a future of esteem and prosperity.

Relazione del tesoriere

E' con viva soddisfazione che, in qualita' di tesoriere, presento la mia prima relazione sulla situazione finanziaria del Club per l'anno appena trascorso.

Desidero cogliere questa opportunita' per ringraziare tutti i soci del loro costante supporto che ci ha permesso di registrare un buon successo. Esprimo in particolar e la piu' viva riconoscenza al presidente del Club cay. Rino Tessarotto, ai vice-pres identi Agostino Martini e Alfonso Pozzebon, al segretario Frank Pezzin e a tutti i membri del Comitato. Grazie al personale che svolge mansioni d'ufficio: John Cobain, Mario Bonis, Ketti Pezzin e Linda Stoppa (in servizio da gennaio) per la lorocollaborazione durante i 12 mesi trascorsi.

II Club ha continuato ad operare in modo efficiente, registrando un profitto commerciale di $3669 ed un profitto netto totale di $113433.

II giro di affari del reparto Ristorante e Bar e' inferiore di $2296 rispetto a quello dell'anno precedente, anche se le vendite complessive sono state superiori di $20292.

Cio' e' dovuto all'aumento del costo degli alimenti e delle bevande alcoliche di $3313 e dei salari per il personale del Ristorante e Bar di $9524. Addizionando l'aumento del costo della licenza alcolici e dei permcssi di vendita (Club Charges and Liquor Licence Fees) pari a $11546, le spese di gestione sono aumentate, in totale, di $22588.

Altre entrate in relazione a varie attivita' del sodalizio sono diminuite di $37760.

Spiegate in dettaglio da una riduzione di $21633 nelle attivita' della sezione giovanile (Youth Functions) e un incremento dei costi per la sezione calcio di $14163.

Le spese di attivita' del Club sono aumentate di soli $820, mentre quelle di amministrazione di $20802; in particolare sono aumentati i costi di stampa e materiale d'ufficio per un totale di $2986. Per i salari c'e' stato un incremento di $11323; per il fondo pensione (superannuation) di $7566.

Sono diminuite le spese per la proprieta' di $69324, questo sopratutto dovuto all'attento esame dei costi di manutenzione e riparazione degli impianti da parte del Comitato che hanno permesso una riduzione generale di $84803.

II profitto di gestione, di $113433, e' aumentato rispetto allo scorso anno di $19254.

Tale aumento e' conseguenza di una riduzione generale delle entrate, pari a $39956, e delle spese, pari a $49123, con un incremento di entrate al di fuori dell'attivita' commerciale di $10087.

L'attivo di gestione e' stato completato da: interesse bancario $21211; tessere di iscrizione (Membership Fees) $84870; donazioni varie e delle Ladies Auxiliary $23454.

Dal totale bisogna detrarre le donazioni effettuate, pari a $19771.

Treasurer's Report It gives me a great deal of pleasure as Treasurer to present my first report on the Financial Activities of the Club for the past year.

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all our members for their continued support in making this year a financial success. Also my thanks and gratitude to our President, Rino Tessarotto, Vice President's Agostino Martini and Alfonso Pozzebon, Secretary Frank Pezzin and members of the Committee. To all the staff in particular those from the office, John Cobaot. Mario Bonis, Ketti Pezzin and Linda Stoppa, who joined us in January, for their help and guidance during this past year.

The Club has continued to operate efficiently, providing a Trading Profit of $3669 and a net overall profit of $113433.

The Restaurant and Bar Trading figures are down by $2296 on the previous year, although the total sales are up by $20292. This is reflected by an increase in Food and Liquor Costs of $3313 and Bar 8. Restaurant Wages of $9524. Along with an increase in Club Charges and Liquor Licence Fees of $11546, the total Trading Costs have increased by $22588.

Other Activity Income has decreased by $37760. This is represented by a decrease of $21633 in Youth Functions, and an increase in Soccer expenditure of $14163. The Club Trading Expenses have increased by only $820 whilst Administration Expenses have increased by $20802, particularly printing and Stationery which has increased by $2986, Salaries increased by $11323 and a Superannuation Cost of $7566.

Property Expenses have decreased by $69324 overall from last year, due mainly to Repairs & Maintenance costs which have been closely monitored by the Committee resulting in a decrease of $84803.

OVet2111 The Isacarc34mq-Profit of $113433 has been increased over last year's figures by $19254. This is due to the decrease in total Income of $39956 and the decrease in total expenditure of $49123, along with an increase in non trading income of $10087.

The Trading Surplus has been supplemented by interest received of $21211.

Membership Fees of $84870 and Donations from our Ladies Auxiliary and others of $23454 less outgoing donations of $19771.

the Committee (Directors) of the Veneto Social Club (a by guarantee) submit herewith the Balance Sheet as at 30th Income and Expenditure Statement for the year ended on that as follows:

The Members of the Committee (Directors) in office at the date of this report were: Messrs. R. Tessarotto, A. Martini, A. Pozzebon, F. Pezzin, C. Stocco, D. Barbieri, R. Rostolis, P. Rossilli, P. Ferronato, L. Sella, R. Bordin and G. Cattapan.

2.

The principal activity of the Club during the year ended 30th April, 1990 was to provide social amenities to its Members and no significant changes in the nature of these activities occurred during the year.

3.

The Net Surplus of the Club for the year amounted to $113433. Income Tax is not applicable thereto.

4.

There were no shares or debentures issued during the year.

5.

No payment of dividends as such are permitted under the Memorandum of Association of the Company.

6.

Since the end of the previous financial period there were no dividends paid or declared.

7.

No significant changes in the state of affairs of the Club occurred during the financial year.

8.

No matters or circumstances have arisen since the end of the financial year which significantly affected or may significantly affect the operations of the Club, the results of those operations, or the state of affairs of the Club in financial years subsequent to the financial year ended 30th April, 1990.

9.

Since the 30th April, 1989 no Member of the Committee has received or become entitled to receive a benefit not disclosed in the accounts, by reason of a contract between the Club and Members of the Committee.

10.

No options to shares in the Club have been granted during the year nor are there any options outstanding.

STATEMENT BY COMMITTEE MEMBERS (DIRECTORS)

In the opinion of the Committee of the Veneto Social Club:

1.

(a)

The accompanying Income and Expenditure Statement is drawn up so as to give a true and fair view of the results of the Club for the financial year ended 30th April, 1990.

(b)

The accompanying Balance Sheet is drawn up so as to give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Club as at the end of that financial year.

(c)

At the date of this Statement, there are reasonable grounds to believe that the Club will be able to pay its debts as and when they fall due.

The accompanying accounts have been made out in accordance with Australian accounting standards and applicable approved accounting standards with the exception that depreciation has not been provided on buildings. The Committee considers that the buildings form an integral part of the properties and that any diminution in value thereof should be offset by increases in value in the land and therefore depreciation of buildings is unnecessary.

AUDITORS REPORT TO THE MEMBERS OF VENETO SOCIAL CLUB (A Company Limited by Guarantee)

I have audited the accompanying accounts in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards.

The Club has not provided for depreciation of buildings which are included in the Balance Sheet at the cost of $1584788 refer Note 2. This is a departure from a Statement of Accounting Standards issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Australian Society of Accountants.

In my opinion depreciation should be charged to the Income and Expenditure Statement so as to absorb the cost of the buildings over their useful economic lives. The Club has not calculated the financial effect of this departure from the accounting standard and it is impracticable for me to estimate this.

It is not practicable to establish accounting control over cash receipts and payments made in cash prior to their respective receipt or payment by Club Sub-Committees.

Accordingly, it was not practicable to extend my Audit Examination of such receipts and payments beyond verification of the amounts brought to account on the basis of the net movements of bank accounts of the Sub-Committees for the year under review.

Subject to this limitation, and with the exception referred to above relating to depreciating buildings, in my opinion:-

(a)

the accompanying accounts which have been prepared under the historical cost convention are properly drawn up in accordance with the provisions of the Companies (Victoria) Code and so as to give a true and fair view of:(i)

the state of affairs of the Club at 30th April, 1990 and the results for the year ended on that date: and

(ii)

the other matters required by Section 269 of that Code to be dealt with in the accounts:

the accounting records and other records and registers required by the Companies (Victoria) Code to be kept by the Company have been properly kept in accordance with the provisions of that Code.

Circolo Anziani II Comitato degli "Anziani" di Bulleen e dintorni presenta un bilancio attivo per l'anno 1989 - 1990.

Con i nostri pranzi mensili abbiamo consegnato all'amministrazione del Club la somma di $21,945.40, senza contare it costo delle bevande e di altre consumazioni.

II nostro gruppo e' in costante aumento; cio' e' un segno del buon andamento e the vecchi e nuovi soci si trovano bene fra noi.

Le nostre attivita' registrano ottimi risultati.

Rapporto annuale Tennis Siamo giunti in quel periodo dell'anno in cui e' nostro dovere riepilogare l'anno 1989.1990 e vedere cio' che e' stato fatto per il tennis dal comitato uscente.

L'anno sociale che si conclude sembra sia passato piu' presto di quanto dovrebbe. Ma, con tutto cio', sono state ugualmente organizzate numerose attivita'. Durante questi 12 mesi, come al solito, hanno avuto luogo i vari Round Robins domenicali, e qui vorremmo menzionare che non sempre c'e' stato l'afflusso dei partecipanti, tanto piu' che uno di questi e' stato posticipato per il numero insufficiente di , giocatori iscritti. In ottobre c'e' stato lo Spring Carnival e qui la supremazia dei nostri rappresentanti, a confronto degli altri clubs, e' stata schiacciante. Dopo tanti anni si e' rivisto il "John Palermo Shield" e la sfida con la squadra dell'Exhibition Tennis Club, vinta di stretta misura dalla nostra squadra, si e' svolta sui campi da giuoco del nostro Club. In dicembre siamo andati a trascorrere un week-end a Shepparton, per l'Annual Tennis Picnic, e si e' giuocato al tennis sulla verde erba del Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club.

Si sono anche completati i campionati del nostro Club, per stabilire i campioni nelle varie categorie, per il 1990. Ecco l'elenco dei vincitori e runnersup:

L'annual Tennis dinner dance di quest'anno, per ragioni sperimentali, ha avuto luogo di sabato, invece del solito venerdi', e non potendo avere it salone Venezia di sabato riservato per it nostro dinner dance, abbiamo dovuto riservare Ia sala San Marco. Vi hanno preso parte circa 350 soci e simpatizzanti e Ia serata e' stata allietata dall'orchestra "I Passatempo" ed it comico prestigiatore Danny Simony si e' esibito in un simpatico "floorshow". Sono anche state presentate due placche: una a Raffaelle Launech in riconoscimento per it suo lavoro svolto durante i dieci anni trascorsi nel sotto comitato Tennis e una alla ditta Everest Foods per it loro costante supporto per it nostro tennis.

Per Ia prima volta, dopo diversi anni, Mario Basso e' riuscito a mettere su una squadra, comprendente alcuni dei nostri migliori giocatori, per partecipare al torneo Pennant, organizzato dalla V.T.A. Alcuni dei primi risultati sembrano siano soddisfacenti.

Inoltre, dopo le dimissioni del nostro tennis coach Peter Beare, e' stato assunto Russell Cornehls.

Viene dal Jewish Centre ed e' intenzionato a mettere le radici al Veneto Club.

Relazione del Sottocomitato ÂŤBocceÂť Abbiamo teste' terminato un'altra grande stagione boccistica, una di quelle che non sara' tanto facile eguagliare nel futuro. Elencare tutte le vittorie ottenute sarebbe un compito troppo lungo, quindi ci limitiamo a sottolineare le piu' importanti.

Le competizioni patrocinate da "II Globo", "Nubrik" e "Omega-De Pasquale", sono state altrettanti successi dei nostri boccisti; come pure i titoli "statali" delle tre specialita' di "quadretta", "coppie" e "individuale". In esse si e' distinto in modo particolare Marcello Velo che si e' laureato campione in tutte le specialita'.

I giocatori veneti si sono dimostrati imbattibili anche nelle gare di qualificazione; infatti fra i primi 20 classificati ben 18 erano dei nostri. Ma non hanno vinto solo nel Victoria. Hanno fatto il colpo grosso anche a Griffith, dove e' stato disputato il gran premio "De Bortoli Wines", al quale hanno partecipato le migliori formazioni di

quattro federazioni Australiane. Dunque, meglio di cosi' non poteva andare!

Nelle altre categorie i nostri giocatori sono stati bravi ma non bravissimi. lnfatti in SERIE A il primo dei nostri e' stato G. Sandona (terzo in classifica), nella SERIE B,D. Cugno.

Ho avuto grandi soddisfazioni anche dal lato organizzativo. I membri del Sottocomitato, ben coadiuvati dalle nostre giocatrici, sono sempre stati all'altezza dei loro compiti, ed hanno lavorato per far ben figurare la sezione "Bocce"; ma sopratutto per il prestigio del Veneto Club.

Termino con un sentito ringraziamento a tutti coloro che mi sono stati maggiormente vicini e sono stati i fautori dei nostri successi; in particolare il presidente del Club cay. Rino Tessarotto che assieme al suo Comitato ha sempre cercato di assecondate le nostre giuste e moderate aspirazioni.

Sezione ÂŤbocciofilaÂť femminile L'anno 1989.90 si e' concluso con una serie di meritate vittorie per le "bocciste" venete, benche' it numero delle giocatrici sia piuttosto limitato. Le signore che fanno parte della nostra sezione si impegnano con tenacia per dare al nostro Club l'onore di classificarsi "Club Campione".

II Sottocomitato si congratula vivamente con tutte le giocatrici.

Come sempre mi sento in dovere di menzionare it lavoro che le signore del Sottocomitato svolgono con molta dedizione durante le vane fasi delle competizioni di bocce: federali, statali e sociali.

Soccer Report As we all know the current soccer season commenced after a long period of indecision and direction from the powers to be, but here at Bulleen, we were well prepared for any outcome, following the court case for the makeup of the State League. Recruitment of new players was well in hand and together with our "old players" we started the season very well and continue to show that we are a strength to fathom with. Our new recruits include • Vesnaver Terzini, Valentic, Grbac, Tuck, Thodis, Nobile and Branov for the seniors.

The senior team is being coached by Alan Gentry, assisted by Andy Bozikas and the Reserve team is coached by Ivan Stocco.

This year we have been very fortunate in that many supporters have banded together to raise extra funds by organizing functions which have proven to be very successful. We must extend our congratulations to Beppe Agnoletto, Frank Bertoncello, Celio Stocco, Guerrino Baltrame, Marcello Bortolotto, Dino Belia, Fermo Marchetti and all the others who so generously have been of great assistance at these functions.

This year the kiosk has been placed in the capable hands of Mary Bianco who has taken over this arduous position from Anna Pozzebon • who decided to take a rest after many' years of hard and dedicated work. Also Lidia Simeoni and Nori Barbieri decided that a rest was in order and we thank these ladies for many years of service with a smile. The soccer ladies we all must agree do a tremendous amount of hard work on behalf of us all and we thank them for this.

After Joe Barbieri's resignation as Junior secretary, this position was taken over by Alex Lorenzi who is doing a fine job of it all but has only been able to field 4 teams this season. A pity for such a club of our size, but this appears to be a trend amongst all clubs lately • mainly because there are so many other interests these days for our young boys to follow. Hopefully next year we will be able to see more teams participate at junior level.

As the junior season is about to commence we are looking forward to being able to make full use of the ground that we have rented from the Doncaster Council arid on which lights are soon to be erected. This ground will be most beneficial to all teams for training, especially during the inclement weather when our ground will be truly tested.

The Soccer committee takes this opportunity of thanking all their sponsors, both old and new for staying with us this season - our major sponsors being Grofam together with the Camillo Bros. and Barro Group and we look forward to many years of continued involvement. Without your committment to the soccer we would not be able to enjoy the success and prestige that is ours.

On finishing this report we thank the Veneto Main Committee and office staff for their help and encouragement thoughout the year.

There are also, a number of Veneti supporters that, when asked, are only too pleased to help the soccer committee when needed at home games and we would like to thank these people for their assistance.

Shooter Report

squadra, (la South East Zone Shoot, II troteo InterClub attualmente in possesso del "Marconi" di Sydney, o per il Perpetual Shield di Numerkah) si distinguono egregiamante e rappresentano con orgoglio i colori del nostro Club.

A tutti vadano i nostri ringraziamenti e l'augurio che la stagione 1990.91 sia ancora piu' ricca di titoli vinti ed anche di nuovi soci.

Le gare alle quali partecipa il nostro Club sembra che diventino sempre piu' competitive, specie sotto il profilo tecnico; infatti nuove macchine Ianciano i piattelli piu' velocemente e piu' lontano. I nostri beniamini ce la devono mettere tutta per ottenere risultati positivi.

Durante I'anno le competizioni sono state corm battute accanitamente, come il South East Zone Shoot e il Numerkah Perpetual Shield. Tuttora stiamo progettando il viaggio per Sydney per incontrare il Marconi Club. Se tutto va bene saremo la' verso settembre e daremo battaglia ai "SydneySiders".

II Veneto Shooters Club gode la massima stima di tutti i partecipanti di questo grande sport.

Questo e' dovuto innanzitutto alla costante guida del chairman, Sergio Zotti e del suo comitato. Non dobbiamo omettere il supporto dei nostri "sponsors", ai quali vanno i nostri piu' sentiti ringraziamenti, perche' e' grazie alla loro grande generosita' che possiamo mettere in palio magnifici trofei.

Netball Report Veneto Netball over the past twelve months has endured some sad as well as victorious events.

The end of last season saw the disbanding of the Junior Netball Team due to unfortunate circumstances. As upsetting as it was for both myself and a few of the players, the result of the disbandment has, however, lead to the formation of a new senior team instead. This new senior team looks like starting to play next season which starts at the end of June sometime.

Although our senior teams are growing in numbers, it is still hoped to form another Junior Team in the near future. It is my aim to try and achieve this before the start of the next Spring Sports Carnival so that we will have representation in the lower age group competition. Any girls interested are always welcome and urged to ring me on (03) 268 3524 (Business hours only).

As always, the Spring Sports Carnival held last year was a lot of fun and netball went smoothly apart from a few minor problems which will be fixed up this year. Our senior team just missed out on making the finals on the day by percentage only, but were overall pleased with their efforts.

Their efforts were highly rewarded in December of last year when the team brought home their third premiership. Not only did they win but they managed to make up a rather large difference in the scores in the last few minutes of the game, when star goalers Gina Tieppo and Tracey Smith just couldn't go wrong and were shooting goals

from a distance. Naturally the girls and their supporters were elated over the win as it was their second premiership in a row. Well, it seems like this team may just make it a hat trick as they are only four games away from their finals in their current competition, and are on the top of the ladder.

WELL DONE GIRLS AND GOOD LUCK IN JUNE. That's all from me now, but I look forward to telling you all about the results of the coming finals in June when we will no doubt take the flag home again!! ciao Tina Sanelli

THE VENETO TOWARDS THE NEXT CENTURY On the horizon, innovation and high technology, behind it a long history of science and culture: this is the portrait of the Veneto in the Eighties. The same region in the 15th and 16th centuries set a challenge which has now become the challenge of the year two thousand. But why should we disturb our ancestors of nearly five centuries ago to justify speed and results of the Veneto's present innovations? It was, in fact, at that time that illustrious figures such as Andrea Vesalio, Fracaro, Copernicus, Galilei Galileo and Giordano Bruno headed the «Studio» in Padua.

With their doctrines they were able to create a very favourable climate for the teaching of physics, mathematics, philosophy and medicine, all of which has had an important bearing on the phenomenon of innovation in the Eighties.

They provide a key to an understanding of the rapid technological and industrial growth which has been a feature of the region's economy over the last twenty years.

This progress has allowed the region to compare its own production models to those of Lombardy and Piedmont more highly concentrated industrial areas - and even reach the levels of many of the most advanced regions in Europe.

But if the merit goes to the productive processes and machinery, the organisational aspects should not be neglected nor should the courage of Veneto entrepreneurs

together the potential of the local universities, entrepreneurial associations, credit institutions and public bodies. In Venice an important international centre for environmental studies, is being created, with links with the American university of Santa Barbara whereas in Padua two distinct projects are underway. The first For clean energy, the second for the creation of a study centre on ageing, involving public and private bodies as well as a major world pharmeceutical company. Finally in Verona, good results have been obtained in the field of Biotechnology thanks to the cooperation over a number of years between an important private firm and a university department.

Thus what emerges is the Veneto's definite desire For change through innovations in science and technology which are closely linked to the needs of the business world. All of which is possible thanks to the participation of the institutes and departments of the universities of Padua, Venice and Verona as well as the operational sectors of the National Research Council in the Veneto and the presence of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics. These centres work in liason with European and North American laboratories. Two of these numerous institutes deserve a special mention: the Institute for the Study of Large Masses and the Institute of Marine Biology. The first came into being in 1969 thanks to the National Research Council with the purpose of explaining and solving the problems raised by the phenomena of high tides and land subsidence. The second institute, created in 1947 but re-organised in 1968, carries out research in the fields of biological oceanography and marine and lagoon biology. it is divided into four specialised departments: Planktonic Ecology and Productivity, Bentonic Ecology and Sedimentology.

TERRA E VITA DEI SETTE COMUNI zela, che limitano un altro vasto cornplesso montuoso (Meletta, M. Fior, Castelgomberto, Tonderecar, Lisser, tutti oltre i 1.600 metri) it quale finisce poi col precipitare a strapiombo sul Canale di Brenta.

Il versante meridionale dell'Altopiano, prospiciente la pianura, e definito da una catena montuosa di livello mifore, sui 1.400-1.500 metri, formata dal M. Cengio (1.354 m), M. Pau (1.417 m), Cima Fonte (1.518 m), M. Ma77e (1.407 m), M. Corno (1.383 m), M. Bertiaga (1.356 m) e, per ultimo, it M. Caina (1.002 m), in vista del M. Grappa che 6 al di la del Canale di Brenta.

La superficie complessiva dell'Altopiano 6 di 466,68 kmq, relativa pero soltanto al patrimonio degli otto Comuni attuali (Asiago, Gallio, Roana, Rotzo, Foza, Enego, Lusiana, Conco), esclusi quindi i territori di altri Comuni confinanti, della fascia pedemontana (vedi Cogollo del Cengio, Lugo Vicentino, Grigno di Valsugana ecc.).

II suolo, essenzialmente calcareo pur con frequenti inclusioni silicee (nel Biancone), a assai fessurato da numerose spaccature (diaclasi) che costituiscono nell'insieme un complesso carsico con formazioni sotterranee — grotte e voragini — molto rilevanti.

La maggior parte di queste cavita naturali (dette quassii «loch» oppure obuse») s'apre alla superficie con un'imboccatura circolare cui segue uno sviluppo pressoche verticale talora molto profondo: vedi it Tanzerloch a Camporovere di Roana, it Giacominenerloch a Cesuna di Roana, it Barloch in Val d'Assa, it Tagaloch a Rotzo, la Busa dei Boi presso Asiago, la Spaluga di Lusiana e la piu abissale di tutte la Busa di Malga Fossetta, con 492 metri finora esplorati.

Cenni di configurazione geografica L'Altopiano dei Sette Comuni costituisce un ampio territorio compreso nella catena prealpina veneta, con limiti e caratteristiche naturali ben definiti. Lo racchiudono ad ovest la Valle del Centa e la Valle del flume Astico, a nord la Val di Sella e la Valsugana, ad est it Canale del flume Brenta, mentre a sud degrada verso la pianura vicentina con una lenta successione di rilievi e di avvallamenti.

I monti e le colline dell'acrocoro convergono verso una vasta conca centrale leggermente ondulata. Nella punta nord-ovest, esso si prolunga o meglio si collega all'Altopiano di Lavarone, nel Trentino, attraverso la breve sella di Monterovere.

La catena montuosa settentrionale — un vero e proprio bastione — si stende ad arco, da ovest ad est, iniziando dallo Spitz Verle (1.908 m) con una serie di cime pressoche tutte oltrepassanti i duemila metri: Cima Mandriolo (2.049 m), Cima Larici (2.033 m), Cima Portule (2.307 m), Cima 12 (2.336 m) la maggiore dell'Altopiano, Cima 11 (2.228 m), Monte Castelnuovo (2.215 m), Monte Ortigara (2.106 m), Cima Caldiera (2.124 m), Porta Molina (1.920 m), Castelloni di S. Marco (1.830 m).

All'estremita orientale delrarco montuoso, it rilievo s'attenua nella Piana di Marcesina.

Da questa imponente catena si dipartono verso sud, cio6 verso la conca centrale, numerose dorsali e valli, due delle quali particolarmente profonde: ad ovest la Val d'Assa che stacca di netto it massiccio montuoso formato dal M. Campolongo (1.720 m) e dal M. Verena (2.013 m) e, dalla parte opposta, la Valle di Campomulo-Val Fren58

Rodeghieri, attraversa Asiago, a utilizzata peril trasporto dei liquami fognari: si getta quindi nel torrente Ghelpak.

Quest'ultimo inizia dal Longara, monte sovrastante Gallio, forma la vane del Packstall attraversa Asiago e, serpeggiando per la conca centrale dell'Altopiano, confluisce nella Valle dell'Assa .

L'Assa e anch'esso un corso d'acqua di tipo torrentizio che nasce dall'Altopiano di Vezzena, nel Trentino; scende verso la conca centrale fino a Camporovere e devia decisamente verso overt per sfociare nella Val d'Astico.

Per l'abbeveraggio del bestiame e delle mandrie al pascolo, s'6 provveduto, sin dall'inizio della transumanza, alla formazione di conche artificiali dalla superficie assai limitata (50-100 mq), poco profonde (1,-1,50 m), dette vosse», le pozze d'alpeggio.

Si tratta in pratica dell'unico ambiente acquatico o semiacquatico dell'Altopiano. Riempiti d'acqua piovana, questi modesti bacini di raccolta, ospitano sovente una fauna ed una flora caratteristiche.

Gli esseri viventi che l'abitano rappresentano una fauna a larga valenza ecologica, per la straordinaria capacity di adattamento ad un ambiente sottoposto a notevoli escursioni termiche, al lungo congelamento invernale, come pure ad un alternarsi di prosciugamenti e di straripamenti di certe stagioni.

Le pozze d'alpeggio costituiscono un fattore importante per la vita animale dei pascoli ed anche un elemento determinante per lo stesso equilibrio forestale, delle faggete e delle peccete circostanti. Ve ne sono a centinaia, sparse su tutta l'area prativa e pascoliva della conca e su, fino alle praterie elevate intorno ai 1.600-1.700 m.

taria (infrequenti gli affioramenti effusivi): i due pill rappresentativi tipi, del Giurese e del Cretaceo, sono it Rosso Ammonitico e it Bianc,one, mentre le cime pit' elevate circoscriventi la conca centrale sono formate dalla dolomia del Trias che costituisce lo zoccolo di sostegno dell'intero complesso montuoso.

Geologicamente it nostro territorio 6 un altopiano da sollevamento, rappresentando it lato sollevato di una enorme «piega a ginocchio» i cui fianchi di raccordo sono ben evidenti solo a sud dell'Altopiano.

Le rocce superficiali, come gli strati affioranti di • Rosso ammonitico ad esempio, presentano abbondanti forme di erosione, delle quali le pill appariscenti sono le cosidette «citta di roccia», visibili 'sotto Monte Fior attorno alla Busa del Sorlaro, oppure a Monte Corno.

Nonostante l'elevata piovosita annuale (circa 2 metri annui), l'Altopiano 6 assai scarso di sorgenti attive e stabili.

Si tratta per la maggior parte di risorgive che si caricano d'acqua quasi esclusivamente durante it disgelo o conseguentemente ad abbondanti precipitazioni. Sono rinvenibili in alta montagna oppure qua e la per i boschi talora in prati e pascoli dove si risolvono in acquitrini o in «terreni molli» detti quassii «mujne».

La pill importante per portata e per continuity d'acqua 6 la Renzola che scaturisce dalle falde rocciose situate tra Cima Larici e it Monte Erba e, percorsa la valletta omonima, confluisce nella Val d'Assa. Gli acquedotti della Val Renzola forniscono parecchi paesi dell'Altopiano: Asiago, Roana, Rofzo...

Un'altra sorgente, la Frenzela, serve all'approvvigionamento idrico del comune di Gallio. La Rosa, ruscello perenne che scendendo dalla contrada
