L'undicesimo anniversario della fondazione del "Veneto Social Club" di Bulleen vede ancora una volta tutti i veneti spiritualmente uniti come sempre e piu che mai in un'atmosfera di solidarieta e di collaborazione.

Fieri come sono delle loro origini e della loro storia conservano viva nel loro cuore I'immagine dell'Italia che si sforzano con successo di portare all'attenzione di tutta la Comunita di questo grande Paese ospitale.

Sono quindi lietissimo di inviare a Lei, Signor Presidente, a tutti i membri del Comitato, ai soci e simpatizzanti, it mio piu sincero e caloroso saluto con gli auguri piu belli che it Club possa sempre pip essere punto di incontro e armonia e possa avere sempre piu luminosi successi.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT

It is my pleasure and honor to deliver once again the annual "Veneto Social Club President's Report". The past year has been one of intense growth, full of highly significant events in the life of our organization, and characterized by a host of social, sporting and cultural activities which clearly indicate a step forward from the already substantial achievements of preceeding periods.

Ancora una volta ho it piacere e l'onore di presentarvi questa relazione annuale come presidente del Veneto Social Club. Quello trascorso, 6 stato un anno intenso, ricco di avvenimenti d'alto significato nella vita del nostro sodalizio e di attivita sociali, sportive e culturali che indicano un sipuro progresso rispetto ai periodi precedenti.

I feel, therefore, duty-bound to thank above all my Executive Committee, whose fellow members have constantly given me their most unconditional loyalty and co-operation, and whose work has been instrumental in reaching some important new goals.

Pertanto sento it dovere di ringraziare in primo luogo it mio Comitato che mi 6 stato costantemente vicino con tutta la sua fattiva lealta e collaborazione e la cui opera ha permesso di raggiungere nuovi lusinghieri traguardi.

Our heartfelt thanks are also well deserved by our legal adviser and honorary Club member, Mr. Loris Sartori, for his very prompt unselfish contribution to the solution of some of the more delicate problems which never fail to crop up from time to time.

Further special mention is deserved, naturally enough, by the various Sub-Committees. The entire space of this booklet would not be sufficient to describe their manifold activities, without which our Club would become nigh useless. The amount of work they perform calls for the everlasting gratitude of all our Club officials and members.

Una menzione particolare meritano, naturalmente, i Sottocomitati. Non basterebbero neppure tutte le pagine di questa pubblicazione per illustrare le loro molteplici attivita, senza di cui ii nostro Club sarebbe di scarsa importanza. La mole di lavoro da essi svolta merita la perenne gratitudine di tutti i dirigenti e soci.

Oldest of all Sub-Committees is the "Sottocomitato Bocciofilo" which, relying on its own decennial experience, has successfully steered a very demanding series of highly significant events, chief among them the magnificent inter-State bocce competitions which have conferred on our Club an aura of growing prestige.

II piu anziano 6 it Sottocomitato Bocciofilo che, mettendo a frutto la sua decennale esperienza, ha portato a termine una nutritissima serie di impegnative manifestazioni, fra cui i magnifici incontri interstatali che conferiscono un crescente prestigio al nostro Club.

Alongside the "Men's Bocce Sub-Committee", all more recent sub-committees have shown great enthusiasm and promise, and have earned high marks. The ones I have in mind are the specific groups dealing with:— Tennis, Squash, Soccer, Billiards, Game and Target Shooting, Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, Karate, the Choir.

We have recently experienced a "boom" with the fielding of two junior Soccer teams.

Furthermore, I like to mention and thank the members of our "Youth Committee" who, by their imaginative approach, have kept active and united the younger set in whose hands the future of our great Venetian association lies. However, we must not forget the "Batchelors' Sub-Committee", a marvellous group of members who give freely of their time and caring skills to create, improve and make safer the recreational facilities for the youngsters.

A fianco dei bocciofili, hanno saputo dimostrare tutta lal loro validita e dinamicita anche gli altri sottocomitati sorti pi0 tardi e che si sono gia saputi guadagnare vasta popolarita ed alti riconoscimenti. Mi riferisco ai benemeriti gruppi che si interessano di: Tennis, Squash, Caccia e Tiro al Piattello, Bigliardi, Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, Calcio, Karate, it Coro. Da sottolineare anche it recente "boom" delle nostre squadre giovanili di calcio.

Voglio, ancora, ricordare e ringraziare i componenti del "Comitato Giovanile" che con le loro molteplici attivita richiamano al Club e tengono uniti i giovani nelle cui mani a ii futuro di questo grande sodalizio veneto.

Non intendo passare sotto silenzio neppure it "Sottocomitato Scapoli": un meraviglioso gruppo che disinteressatamente si preoccupa di dare ai pi6 piccoli, ai figll dei nostri soci, sicuri ed attraenti locali di gioco e possibility di sano divertimento.

What else can I say now of the "Ladies Auxiliary Committee", and of all the energetic kind ladies who have so graciously co-operated with it? It would be almost impossible to adequately thank this cohesive and tireless group of Ladies who spare no effort to advance the interest of the Club. Mainly through their initiative, our Club has been able to continue the charity task of contributing to the Spastic Children' Society and various Italian welfare organizations. Their charity work is only one aspect of their voluntary activities. In truth, can we find one single segment of our Club's life where our smiling Ladies are not present with their energy, their patience, their tact? An equally important work has been carried out by the "Women's Sub-Committee", that has been a great help — organization-wise and competitionwise — to the "Men's Bocce Sub-Committee".

Cosa posso, adesso, dire del nostro "Ladies' Auxiliary Committee" e di tutte le volenterose gentili Signore che hanno con esso collaborato? Ritengo impossibile ringraziare adeguatamente questo affiatato ed entusiastico gruppo di Signore che continuamente si prodiga per it progresso del Club. Grazie alla loro opera, it nostro Club ha potuto continuare a dare un prezioso contributo assistenziale all'Ente per Bambini Spastici e a tan'e meritorie cause all'interno della Comunita italiana. E questa 6 soltanto una parte delle loro attivita. Dov'e, infatti, it settore della vita del nostro Club in cui queste instancabili Signore non sono presenti con la loro energia, la loro pazienza, la loro gentilezza? Altrettanto brillantemente si 6 disimpegnato durante gli ultimi dodici mesi it "Comitato Bocciofilo Femminile", che ha dato un rilevante aiuto al Comitato maschile sotto it profilo agonistico ed organizzativo.

I want to extend my thanks to all the salaried staff of the Club — above all, the irreplaceable licence nominee, Mr. Nino Bettiol, and the efficient Club manager, Cay. Virgino Turco —, to the kitchen staff and bar attendants, and to all those who have carried out generously and responsibly whatever tasks were allotted to them. Our appreciation and gratitude is finally due to the team of voluntary workers who have assisted in different capacities at parties and gala evenings, and who have provided constant service every Sunday in the Sala S. Marco. We owe it to them if we can still offer a familystyle service to members and visitors, at the more than favourable conditions we are all aware of.

Un "grazie" vada anche a tutti i dipendenti fissi del Club — in primo luogo all'insostituibile titolare della licenza Nino Bettiol ed all'esperto Direttore del Club, cay. Virginio Turco —, al personale della cucina, del bar, a tutti coloro che con senso di dedizione e responsabilita hanno svolto i compiti loro assegnati. Infine, un generoso riconoscimento e ringraziamento 6 dovuto al personale volontario, che 6 sempre puntualmente presente a tutte le manifestazioni ed e a disposizione ogni domenica in Sala S. Marco: 6 soprottutto grazie a costoro che possiamo permetterci di offrire ancora un trattamento familiare a soci e frequentatori, alle piu che favorevoli condizioni che tutti conosciamo.

While I express my kindest regards and renewed thanks to all officials and members, women and men, young and old, I conclude by wishing our Club many more years of greater achievements and success.

RELAZIONE DEL SEGRETARIO In qualita di Segretario per l'anno sociale 1977-78, posso per prima cosa dichiararmi soddisfatto per la collaborazione ricevuta da tutti gli altri membri del Comitato Direttivo e dai Sottocomitati, e per la quantita e qualita del lavoro svolto nella costane opera di miglioramento e di progresso del Veneto Social Club.

Durante i trascorsi dodici mesi, it Comitato ha preso tutta una serie di decisioni e iniziative, in massima parte gia a voi tutti note e che si spera possano essere di giovamento all'ulteriore potenziamento e prestigio del Club.

Accenno al fatto che it nostro bollettino "L'Eco del Veneto Social Club" adesso viene regolarmente spedito a domicilio a tutti i soci. Tra le iniziative che considero pia valide e promettenti si deve includere quella dell'istituzione di Corsi di Italiano, che spero possano avere presto inizio e possano essere appoggiati dal Club con premi vari ed adeguate forme d'incoraggiamento pratico per i nostri figli..

Nel dare il benvenuto al nuovo amministratore del Club, il ragioniere F. Rossato, mi sento in dovere di ringraziare, a nome dell'intero Comitato e di tutti i Soci, l'amministratore uscente, it ragioniere Frank Gazzola, le cui dimissioni per ragioni personali abbiamo accettato a malincuore. II Veneto Social Club ha un immenso debito di gratitudine nei confronti del rag. Gazzola, che con le sue ben note capacita e it suo scrupoloso impegno ha dato un impareggiabile contributo al successo di tutte le attivita del sodalizio. Insieme al ringraziamento, rivolgiamo al rag. Gazzola I'augurio che possa restarci sempre vicino con i suoi esperti consigli.

Come ha gia detto it Presidente nella sua relazione, it Comitato direttivo e tutti i Sottocomitati hanno funzionato energicamente, dando ancora una volta prova di esemplare attaccamento al sodalizio. Oltre alle nuove affermazioni del Gruppo Tennistico, degna di particolare rilievo mi sembra la costituzione di due squadre di calcio "sotto i 15' e "sotto i 12 anni". Per queste e tutte le altre attivita sportive che onorano it nostro Club, ci sono volute tanta tenacia, energia, spirito di sacrificio: qualita che hanno in sommo modo saputo dimostrare i dirigenti del vari gruppi e sottocomitati.

Dirigenti e dipendenti del Veneto Social Club hanno dato it meglio di se stessi. Mi permetto di citare in particolare l'esempio datoci dal Direttore organizzativo del Club, il cay. Virginio Turco, il quale, oltre ad assicurare it miglior funzionamento generale di tutti i servizi, ha saputo curare con passione la pubblicazione dell"'Eco del Veneto Social Club". Personalmente, nello svolgimento del mio incarico ho ricevuto continua assistenza da Tina Colautti, Katy Pezzin, Clare Warn: in mano di queste competenti persone la Segreteria potra essere sempre sicura di risolvere rapidamente ogni problema.

Analogo plauso e ringraziamento merita tutto it resto del personale, sia stipendiato che volontario.

Accanto a un bilancio — finanziario e sociale — sostanzialmente positivo, ci sono stati e restano, naturalmente, dei problemi da risolvere oppure ancora risolti in parte. Mi auguro che it nuovo Comitato sappia trovare, con tempestivita ed energia, it sistema di assicurare pia disciplina e sicurezza dentro it perimetro del Club, specialmente in relazione alle attivita dei giovani.

Debbo purtroppo osservare che i nostri giovani, quelli ai quail 6 affidato it futuro di questa magnifica organizzazione costata tanti anni di sacrifici, di speranze e passione, questi giovani — dico — non dimostrano eccessivo attaccamento ed intersse per il Club. Appena 32 di loro hanno creduto opportuno iscriversi come "junior members". E' mio parere che ci sono troppi giovani i quali vogliono it servizio, le attrezzature e la protezione del Club senza impegnarsi personalmente in qualita di soci.

Se alla massa dei nostri giovani non interessano le sorti del Club, se non si vogliono mantenere vive, almeno per

la seconda generazione, le tradizioni sociali e cultural' aella terra veneta, allora non varrebbe proprio la pena fare tanti sacrifici oggi.

Voglio sperare che it problema dei giovani possa, comunque, essere risolto molto presto con una loro pia massiccia, entusiastica e costruttiva partecipazione. Bisogna scongiurare ancora it pencolo che elementi indesiderabili vengano attirati nei locali del Club provocando immancabili danni morali (e a lungo andare anche finanziari).

Rivolgo uno speciale appello ai genitori perche all'interno del Club controllino di pia i propri figli pia piccoli, prevenendo danni ai locali ed alle attrezzature.

Come potete constatare dal bilancio, le spese di manutenzione sono fortemente aumentate. Con maggiore attenzione parecchie di queste spese potrebbero essere evitate. II Club 6 di tutti e ogni danno, non importa da chi sia fatto, dovra essere riparato a spese di tutti i soci.

Vorrei infine ricordare che le serate di "Bingo" — la popolare tombola — ogni venerdi non sono ancora cosi frequentate come sarebbe desiderabile. Si tratta di un divertimento unico, di piacevoli serate durante le quail, a poco costo (e qualche volta anche guadagandoci finanziariamente) i soci e le loro famiglie possono dare un apprezzabile contributo al sodalizio.

Non ho dubbi che tutti I problemi potranno essere risolti, con la buona volonta e la capacita di cui questo Club 6 andato sempre fiero. Nel frattempo vi ringrazio tutti per la fiducia accordatami: ho cercato nel miglior modo possibile e nell'interesse generale, di assolvere al mio impegno di segretario durante it trascorso anno sociale. Formulo i miei migliori ringraziamenti al Comitato uscente e i pia sinceri auguri di nuovi successi al Comitato che verra eletto per il 1978-79.

DAL PRESIDENTE DELL'"HOUSE COMMITTEE" Anche nell'anno appena conclusosi, nonostante it continuo aumento dei costi e it clima di relativa crisi e disoccupazione, abbiamo avuto it piacere di vedere costantemente le nostre sale e tutte le nostre manifestazioni all'interno e all'aperto sempre pia affollate e meglio organizzate. Questo grado di partecipazione ci ha permesso come Club di conseguire, ancora una volta, i pia lusinghieri successi.

E' con piacere, quindi, che desidero ricordare e rin graziare tutti i miei collaboratori, in special modo queili che ml sono stati pia vicini, dai signori Rossillo e Frigo al meraviglioso gruppo di volontari e volontarie che prestano servizio nella Sala S. Marco, al sig. Silvio DaIla Vecchia e tutti i suoi aiutanti che sono stati di prezioso ausilio specie in occasione del Picnic Natalizio e della Giornata delle Castagne, al "Ladies' Auxiliary Committee" ed alle Signore del Sottocomitato Femminile Bocce.

Un sincero ringraziamento, ancora, allo "chef" Gino ed a tutto il personale di cucina, del bar e del servizio ristorante. Lascio per ultimo, non per mancanza di riguardo bensi per ricordarlo in maniera particolare, it Direttore cay. Virginio Turco, la cui opera tenace ed intelligente questo Club non potra mai apprezzare a sufficienza.

DAL DIRETTORE DEL CLUB Carl soci ed amici, quando fui invitato a prendere it posto lasciato dal mio predecessore, accettai volentieri, a condizione, perb, che la mia presenza al Club in quality di Direttore non avesse oltrepassato le 4 0 5 settimane. E questo per dar tempo ai nostri dirigenti di cercare e scegliere la persona pia adatta all'incarico, senza troppi rischi e premura.

Invece sono passati ben 13 mesi e sono ancora qui con voi. Adesso, pert>, 6 giunta l'ora di dirci addio, anche se a malincuore perche nel frattempo mi sono affezionato sia al lavoro che a tutti voi.

Considerazioni sulla mia eta, la necessita di attrarre un apporto di nuove idee nell'incarico da me svolto e vats motivi d'ordine personale mi hanno indotto a questa decisione.

Come verra giudicato ii mio periodo di provvisoria carica? Spero non peggiore dei precedenti. Ma se ci fossero taluni che non la pensano cost — sebbene sinceramente non ne veda bl motivo — mi scuso con loro.

Meglio di come ho operato non saprei fare e vi assicuro che nulla ho trascurato, che non mi sono risparmiato, pur di dare all'organizzazione tutto quello che una persona pub umanamente dare.

Ringrazio i componenti del Comitato e in modo particolare tutti quelli che, talvolta trascurando anche i propri interessi personali, mi sono stati pib vicini e mi hanno dato la loro esperta collaborazione. Nell'accomiatarmi, ricordo e ringrazio specialmente bl vicepresidente A. Martini, l'insostituibile Lino Bettiol, bl nostro "Chef" Gino ed Elena , Cesare e Veronica, che, lavorando al mio fianco con passione e competenza, senza contare le ore, hanno fatto si che tutte le nostre feste e manifestazioni si trasformassero in altrettanti successi.

Alla persona che prendera bl mio posto auguro fin da questo momento tutto bl rispetto che l'orteroso e delicato incarico merita e tutte le soddisfazioni morali possibili, e all'intero Veneto Social Club ancora maggiore prosperita e prestigio.

RELAZIONE DEL COMITATO AUSILIARIO FEMMINILE Carl soci, La formazIone del "Comitato Ausiliarbo Femminile" ("Ladies' Auxiliary Committee") del Veneto Social Club risale all'8 agosto 1967.

Trentasette Signore hanno fattc parte e ben cinque presidenti hanno diretto questo comitato, credo si possa dire con successo. Vi darb in breve un resoconto di questi dieci anni di attivita. Abbiamo corffribuito ad opere assistenziali - Spastic Children, Women's Hospital, Co. As.lt., Italo Australian Asili Nido - con una somma che si aggira sui $100,000. Altrettando credo, fra soldi e regali 6 stato dato al nostro Club, — Come forse non saprete, quest'anno abbiamo donato al Club la decorazione della sala del comitato direttivo e della sala del Comitato Ladies' Auxiliary.

Tutto questo, grazie a questo gruppo ed alle nostre care amiche volontarie che sono sempre pronte e infaticabili a darci una mano, alle serate danzanti, ai picnic, quando 6 l'ora delle Miss Veneto, sempre le ho trovate pronte quando ad esse ho chiesto un aiuto. Grazie.

Circa le Miss Veneto, vi dirb che 6 un lavoro un po' delicato e trova tutti not con molte differenti opinioni. Pero posso dirvi che in dieci anni abbiamo vinto dodici titoli all'Italian Community, ben dieci di beneficenza, fra i quali cinque primi, quattro secondi, un terzo, a due di bellezza. Credo sia un onore non indifferente se pensate che i Clubs e ditte che ambiscono a questi titoli da alcuni anni passano la quarantina.

In questi ultimi tre anni abbiamo inoltre ricevuto: nel 1975 un certificato di apprezzamento dall'Apex Club di Warrandyte, nel 1976, un'altro certificato di apprezzamento dallo Spastic Children's Society of Victoria, e nel 1977 una targa di benemerenza dal Globo per le offerte date all'Italian Community.

I Luncheon mensili sono continuati per anni con una media abbastanza buona. Posso 'dirvi che la Serata Awaibana ha avuto un successo senza precedenti, sia per il numero degli intervenuti sia per it profitto. Anche qui non 6 stato tutto merito nostro. E' stato un successo grazie alle volontarie che ci hanno aiutato e at nostri benefattori che hanno fatto si che tutti i premi della lotteria fossero gratuiti, come pure i biglietti.

Ho fatto un conto approssimativo di die> che una Signora Auxiliarba porta di profitto al Club: credo senza esagerare che si aggiri dab duemila ai duemila e cinquecento dollari all'anno.

Voglio porgere le nostre scuse se qualche volta siamo sembrate scortesi o non all'altezza deb nostri compiti. Voglio assicurare tutti che le nostre intenzioni erano sempre sincere. Voglio ancora ricordare che bl nostro gruppo non 6 formato da intelletuali o persone altamente aualbficate, ma da semplici mamme di famiglia animate dalla volonta di aiutare in opere assistenziali a beneficio deb pit) sfortunati membri della societa e di potenziare nello stesso tempo il nostro Club, in modo che possa essere utile e piacevole per not e diventare domani un sano ritrovo per i nostri figli.

RELAZIONE DEL "SOTTOCOMITATO BOCCIOFILO" La trascorsa stagione a stata cosi ricca di avvenimenti e soddisfazioni che sarebbe troppo lungo elencarle tutte. Ci limiteremo ai fatti piu' importanti, a quelli cioe' che, oltre alle soddisfazioni personali, hanno procurato nuovo motivo di fierezza e prestigio al Veneto Social Club.

Importanti, da questo punto di vista, sono state le visite al "Catholic Club" di Griffith ed al "Marconi Club" di Sydney, e la visita che ci hanno fatto i nostri corregionali del Veneto Club di Adelaide.

Ragione pratica e immediata di questi incontri e' stata naturalmente la competizione boccistica; ma nello stesso tempo e' stato raggiunto uno scopo piu' alto ed importante: creare o rafforzare le relazioni di amicizia e collaborazione con tutte quelle associazioni in Australia che hanno le nostre stesse origini e caretteristiche, e potenziare, divertendoci, quello sport che e' stata l'origine ed e' la spina dorsale del nostri Club.

Nella passata stagione boccistica abbiamo avuto la soddisfazione di riportare a casa it magnifico trofeo che ci ha laureati "Campioni per it 1978". La vittoria e' stata conquistata dopo una serrata lotta, durata tre settimane ed alla quale hanno partecipato i quattro piu' forti Clubs del Victoria.

Altri traguardi, affermazioni e riconoscimenti degni di nota sono: le numerose vittorie ai tornei boccistici conseguite dai nostri giocatori; l'aver dato ben 3 giocatori su set alla "Squadra statale di bocce del Victoria"; Paver dato l'unico giocatore del Victoria alla squadra che ha rappresentato ('Australia al Campionati Mondiali di Bocce di Tunisi.

Per tutti questi successi e soddisfazioni, oltre che congratularmi con i protagonisti diretti, voglio ringraziare i componenti del mio "Sottocomitato Bocciofilo" dai quail ho avuto la piu' incondizionata collaborazione, e le Signore del "Sottocomitato Bocciofilo Femminile" che ci hanno prestato un prezioso aiuto durante tutta la stagione.

A soci, giocatori, amici a sostenitori un ringraziamento generale e un augurio di sempre nuovi successi in futuro.

DAL "SOTTOCOMITATO BOCCIOFILO FEMMINILE" E' una soddisfazione morale veramente rara constatare con quanto entusiasmo e competenza le Signore del "Sottocomitato Bocciofilo Femminile" prestano la loro opera in occasione di tutte le competizioni boccistiche.

Mentre le ringrazio sentitamente, e' doveroso sottolineare anche che lo stesso entusiasmo, serieta' e disciplina della loro assistenza organizzativa viene dimostrato dalle partecipanti ai tornei a competizioni boccistiche femminili.

Un grazie di cuore, dunque, a tutte le Signore venete appartenenti alla Fedezarione Bocce che nell'anno 1977-78 si sono distinte per lo standard del loro gioco e per i lusinghieri risultati conseguiti.

VENETO YOUTH SUB-COMMITTEE The past twelve months have been yet another succesful, if not the best, year in the life of the "Veneto Youth Sub-Committee".

We have one again provided our annual outdoor functions as well as our regular dances and "discos", in order to enable our members to enjoy the Club and to meet people with the same background and interests as themselves.

The social highlight of the year Was the "Marcia Hines Concert" held in November 1977, when our members were entertained by one of Australia's top female artists.

However, on a more important although sour note, I am somewhat disturbed at the lack of enthusiasm and support shown not only by our members but also by the senior members of the Veneto Social Club, who have neglected to encourage their sons and daughters to become financial members and to support the Youth SubCommittee. The degree of support from our younger people will be critically relevant to the future survival of our Veneto Social Club.

I must now take time to personally thank all my Sub-Committee members. Without their support and hard work our functions could not have been so successful.

I hope that future Sub-Committees will try to maintain and uphold the high standard achieved by the present SubCommittee.

Our Youth Sub1Committee is not only engaged in providing social functions, but also in organizing activities relating to sports such as basketball, soccer, netball, and the latest addition to our list of sports (which is also a well known form of self-defence): — "Goju-Kai Karate".

RELAZIONE DEL "CORO DEL VENETO SOCIAL CLUB" L'anno sociale 1977/78, grazie alla perizia del nostro Maestro Nino Morandin e all'impegno generoso di tutti i componenti, si pub definire, senza falsa modestia, decisamente soddisfacente, sopratutto per il notevole miglioramento tecnico.

Anche per l'anno appena trascorso, it nostro Coro ha avuto un numero di richieste eccezionale e ci scusiamo se talvolta non e' stato possibile soddisfarle tutte.

Ci e' gradito pero' ricordare le partecipazioni piu' importanti, e cioe': il concerto in occasione dello spettaccolo "ARCOBALENO" alla Dallas Brooks Hall in rappresentanza del V.S.C. e dove la critica ci ha definito uno dei numeri principali di attrazione; il "FESTIVAL OF ALL NATIONS" al Meyer Music Bowl dove abbiamo rappresentato ('Italia; 'INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL di Bright dove abbiamo ancora rappresentato Abbiamo inoltre partecipato a numerosi "Festival Etnici". Messe cantate nella sede del V.S.C. ed in altre Chiese, fra le quali la pit) importante 6 stata la Messa in occasione della Festa della Reppubblica Italiana nella Cattedrale di Melbourne. Ci piace anche ricordare la Messa al Picnic di Orchard Park (in quell'occasione abbiamo anche contribuito allo svolgimento dei giochi).

Abbiamo dato diversi concerti nella sede del Club, come in occasione della festa degli Alpini, della festa pro Venezia, dell'anniversario del Club ed altre.

In occasione della vigilia del Santo Natale, it nostro gruppo ha allestito ii molto ammirato presepio vivente ed ha eseguito gli inni natalizi al lume di candela, con un successo di presenze senza precedenti.

Tutto questo e' stato possibile grazie all'appassionata dedizione del nostro Maestro Nino Morandin e di tutti i coristi, tra i quali numerosi sono i soci fondatori.

II "Coro del Veneto Social Club" che, sotto Is direzione del M.° A. Morandin, continua a conquistare simpatie e collezionare successi in tutto il Victoria.

Un ringranziamento all'infaticabile comitato organizzatore ed in particolare al sig. L. Cecchin, al sig. M. Toniolo, al sig. C. Polli ed al sig. 0. Biondo che con il loro disinteressato lavoro contribuiscono in modo determinants alla riuscita del nostro gruppo.

SPORTS REPORT The sporting activities at the Veneto Social Club have greatly increased during the year 1977-78.

This year has seen the introduction of two Junior Soccer teams - Under 12 and under 15. This has involved approximately 40-50 members' children. The enthusiasm shown by the children and the encouragement by their parents is very gratifying. My thanks to Mr. Sam Tarascio and Mr. Ricky Boscato for their relentless efforts in coaching the under 12 and under 15 teams respectively.

Although the Soccer season has only recently commenced and the achievements to date have not been great, as we are naturally having some teething problems with the Juniors, we are confident that next year will see a marked improvement and better results. A special mention to the Soccer Sub-Committee for the tremendous help and support they have given me, without whom, the formation of the two Junior teams would not have been possible.

This year has also been a difficult one for the Senior teams having lost their coach and also some key players.

The present coach Adrian Spadaro has had a difficult task trying to re-establish the teams but with a lot of hard work on his part, and determination by the players, the theam is once again starting to function and he is sure next season will be more successful.

The Veneto Basketball team has under the expert coaching of Terry Wallace had a verry successful year with the Mens "C" grade team taking out the premiership of the Bulleen—Templestowe Sunday competition. There are two teams playing in competitions at present and are doing very well.

Recently two womens teams have commenced playing and we are hoping they can continue their present good form and reach the finals.

Netball has been a prevalent Sport over the past twelve months with numerous teams representing the Club and two teams finished the season in furth and third place respectively. We hope this current season will also be a good one for our teams.

Our Squash teams have always been successful over the years and this year is no exception. Our top teams have presently reached the final series.

This year has seen the commencement of another sport at the Veneto Club — Tennis. We have four courts which are in great demand and this sport has prover very popular. At the Sports Carnival our representatives won both the Mens and Womens section.

Another relatively new activity at the Club is Karate, adding yet another Sport to our already varied list.

Our Annual Spring Sports Carnival was enjoyed by all who participated. Congratulations to all who contributed towards the success of the Carnival.

As it is impossible to name the many people who have helped me over the past twelve months without omitting anyone, I would like to take this opportunity of expressing my gratitude to everyone concerned, your help and support was very much appriciated.

Finally, credit must be given to the competitors of all the sports for their great achievements. I am sure they will continue to maintain the high standards they have all set, they are truly a credit and a great asset to our Club.

BASKETTBALL REPORT

The Basketball Clubs biggest stumbling block is the lack of training facilities. This is reflected in all the teams and although we are improving, the lack of training is 'making this a slow and difficult task. This fact is also making it hard for us to take on new recruits. We desperately need an indoor court for training Generally: since last year we have progressed admirably. The starting of two Womens teams, the influx of new players and Mens teams being entered in "A" grade competition at both Coburg and Jordanville. The general enthusiasm among players has never been so high.

We would like to thank the coach Terry Wallace, who has always done everything he can to gain the best possible results for the club,to date these speak for themselves. Thanks must also go to the clubs sports committee for its continual support throughout the year.

TENNIS REPORT

The Veneto Basketball Club has had an excellent year, with the Mens "C" grade Team becoming Premiers of Bulleen Templestowe Sunday Competition, thus earning a promotion into "B" grade for the next season. It was a hard fight to reach the finals, but once there, we dominated the opposition, a credit to both players and coach.

The B/C also started two Womens teams, one at Bulleen Templestowe on Sudays, the other at Jordanville on Tuesday nights. Both teams showed great determination. Considering it was the first time most of the girls had played basketball, their results were promising for the season to come.

On the Australia Day long weekend, thanks to the efforts of Paul Gianfriddo, the B/C went to Castlemaine to challenge the local Basketball Clubs. The Mens team managed to defeat a top local side, in a game thas was closely fought, up until the later stages when we broke away to a good win. The Womens team had a tough opposition and considering they had not even completed their first season together, gave an excellent display of determined basketball, not giving in until the final whistle.

At this stage I would like to mention the B/C held their first annual picnic at Portsea and a great time was had by all.

The new Basketball season has already begun and we have Mens teamsplaying in "B" grade at Bulleen Templestowe on Sundays, "A" grade at Jordanville on Monday nights. Our Womens teams are entered in grade on Sunday at Bulleen Templestowe and in "B" on Tuesday nights at Jordanville.

The Progress of our Mens teams at this stage of the season has shown that our players have the ability to beat any of our opposition as long as we can remain consistent from match to match. However, we are sell among the top five teams in all grades, which is a credit, considering the higher standard of opposition compared to last season.

The Womens teams have started their second season with the Sunday team having a good change of making the finals. The Tuesday nigth team have shown that they can play very well and if they keep th;s up, will retain their position in the top four.

Tennis is one of the most recently introduced of all the Veneto Club sporting activities, the courts being completed in late July 1976. A Sub-Committee was formed in early November 1976. Since then, membership has grown to 300, making tennis one of the most popular sports within the Club.

To date only inter-Club matches have been organized, but in the next Pennant Championship the V.S.C. Tennis Association will defenitely participate, thus providing a new dimension for both V.S.C. sporting and social activities.

I would like to take this opportunity to most sincerely thank the Tennis Sub-Committee members who have worked so hard to make tennis so successful. Special thanks are due to the chairman, Mr. M. Basso, whose diligence and efforts were the driving force behind every achievement.

NETBALL REPORT

Dear Members, On this, our 10th Anniversary, it is with pleasure and pride that we announce the continuing progress and success of the Veneto Squash.

The Squash started in 1974 with only one team, comprising 5 players. In the very first season it won a premiership Flag. In the following 3 consecutive seasons the Veneto team won Premiership Flags and won promotion into the higher grades. Success provoked increasing interest in squash and in within 3 seasons we increased our teams from one to six competitive teams. Originally organised and run by myself, alone, we now formed a formal committee to admnister the Squash. No season has passed in which a Veneto team has not won a premiership or Runners-up Flag and we now have teams ranging from F GRADE up to onr No. 1 team in B GRADE. Again this season our top 4 teams are into the final series.

For the continuing success of Squash at the Club we invite all interested members male and female to contact members of the committee for further information. We would especially like the female members to consider the formation of female competitive teams.

During this past year, eleven (11) teams have represented the Club in netball competitions. Four (4) of these teams are currently competing.

The most successful teams were the VCNA teams, North 2 ending the season in fourth place and North 4 in third.

Our most outstanding player was Sue McDonough who won four 'best and fairest' awards at our last presentation.

However all players who have supported netball through continous participation have contributed considerably to Veneto Club Sport.

AUDITORS REPORT TO THE MEMBERS OF VENETO SOCIAL CLUB (A Company Limited by Guarantee)

TO THE MEMBERS: The Club has not provided for depreciation of buildings which are included in the Balance Sheet at cost of $ 807,730.— — refer Note 1. This is a departure from a Statement of Accounting Standards issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Australian Society of Accountants. In our opinion depreciation should be charged to the Income and Expenditure Statement so as to absorb the cost of the buildings over their useful economic lives. The Club has not calculated the financial effect of this departure from the accounting standard and it is impracticable for us to estimate this.

TREASU RER'S REPORT I am pleased to report you on the financial results of the eleventh year of the Club's activities, being for the twelve months ended on 30th April 1978. In that period the Club earned a Net Surplus totalling $ 146,213.60 • after payment of interest amounting to $ 25,044.06, and after providing for depreciation of $ 14,399.48 and Bad and Doubtful Debts of $ 2,968.06. This represents a decrease of $ 47,299.— on the previous year's result which was bolstered by Membership Fees and in particular Admission Fees, of $ 83,270.—, as compared with $ 71,706.— for the period just ended. A decrease in Trading Surplus of $28,265.— for the current year brought about the remainder of the Net Surplus decrease. Total Trading Income increased by 9.0 % over the previous year; Wages unfortunately increased by 15.7 % and Overhead and Operating Expenses by 14.58 % causing the Trading Surplus to fall from $ 69,893.— last year to $ 41,6281— in the current year. The greater part of this decrease was caused by a very significant increase in Property Expenses which rose from $ 80,769.— for the 1976/77 year to $ 100,199.— for the 1977/78 year — an increase of 24.1 %.

Contributions to the Net Surplus by the Ladies Auxiliary and the various Sub-Committees were once again noteworthy, reaching $ 17,532.—. Our warmest thanks and appriciation go to these members and to the ladies of the Auxiliary for their continuous support for the Club and the promotion of its varied activities.

The Club's Accumulated Funds have now progressed to $ 668,824.50 with the $ 146,213.60 Net Surplus, indicating an increase of almost 28% over the figure of $522,610.90 at 30-4-1977.

The Net Surplus figure together with the Depreciation provision of $ vbgkqj cmfwyp shrdl etaoin shrdlu shs provision of $14,399, a reduction of $8,334.— for accounts Receivable and small increases in Trade Creditors and Accrued Expenses, have financed over the year a reduction in the Commenwealth Trading Bank and Carlton and United Breweries Loans amounting to $30,323.—, the elimination of a Building Creditors of $6,833.—, Capital Expenditure on the Club Building and additional Fixtures and Fittings of $34,747.—, increases of Stocks by $18,425.

— and increases in bank accounts of $77,437.—, Considering the prevailing economic climate over the past twelve months coupled with the nature of the Club's activities, the financial results for the 1977/78 year have been more than satisfactory. Members have continued to loyally support our Club and it has therefore weathered these existing difficult times quite successfully. The everincreasing costs of maintaining the Club are of constant concern to your Committee, and it is most encouraging to know that the members' patronage can be relied upon so that the Veneto Social Club will continue on its course strongly and securely.

I wish to also thank the Club's administrative staff for their excellent work over the past twelve months and for the dedicated manner in Which they have attended to their responsibilities. It is most reassuring for the members to have competent administrative personnel who can be relied upon to carry out their duties both accurately and efficiently.

I take this opportunity to thank all members for the interest you have shown in the Club, and for your participation in its activities, and I hope that interest and that participation, will continue for many more years.

THE COMMITTEE'S STATUTORY REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30TH APRIL, 1978.

The Committee of the Veneto Social Club submit herewith the Club's Balance Sheet as at 30th April, 1978 and Income and Expenditure Statement for the year ended on that date and report as follows:1. The Net Surplus of the Club for the year amounted to $146,214.—.

2. The Committee took reasonable steps, before the Income and Expenditure Statement and Balance Sheet of the Club were made out, to ascertain that all known bad debts were written off and adequate provision was made for doubtful debts.

3. At the date of this report, the Committee are not aware of any circumstances which could render the amount written off for bad debts, or the amount of the provisions for doubtful debts inadequate to any substantial extent.

4. At the date of this report the Committee are not aware of any circumstances which would render the values attributable to the current assets in the Club's Accounts misleading.

5. No charge on the assets of the Club has arisen since the end of the financial year to the date of this report to secure the liabilities of any other person.

6. No contingent liability has arisen since the end of the financial year to the date of this report.

7. No contingent liability or other liability has become enforceable or is likely to become enforceable within a period of twelve months after the end of the financial year which, in the opinion of the Committee, will or may effect the ability of the Club to meet its obligations as and when they fall due.

8. The results of the Club's operations during the financial year have not been substantially affected by any item, transaction or event of a material and unusual nature.

9. Since 30th April, 1978 and to the date of this report, in the opinion of the Committee, no item, transaction or event of a material and unusual nature which would affect substantially the results of the Club for the next succeeding financial year, has occurred.

10. Since the end of the previous financial year, no Committee Member has received or become entitled to receive a benefit not disclosed In the accounts, by reason of a contract between the Club and the Committee Member.

REPORT FROM THE "VSC SHOOTERS GROUP"

While thanking their supporters, the VSC shooters hope that they will leave a proud mark on the history of the Club.

This Sub-Committee has gone through a name change from "Gruppo Cacciatori Veneti" to "VSC Shooters".

This was done to identify the shooters with the Veneto Social Club.

This Sub-Committee is now participating in more inter-club activities and its strong following has resulted in the winnig of an interstate Tournament.

The aim of the "Shooters Group" is to participate in open competitions with other clubs, trying to identify the VSC with the rest of the sporting community.

With the ultimate goal of becoming members of the Australian Clay Target Association, the VSC shooters are currently seeking a practice area of their own. In doing so they hope to expand the Veneto Social Club activity in the clay shooting field.

A group of enthusiastic Karate followers at the Veneto Social Club.

Karate has started at the Veneto Social Club in April 1978 with a school of about 20 students. Training is taken

by Tino Ceberano, "6th Dan Black Belt".

The school has now increased to about 30 students and Karate certainly promises to become a very popular sport. If anyone is interested in taking up the "Martial Art", he can come on Monday nights at 7 p.m. Both girls and boys are welcome to learn this art of self defence.

REPORT FROM THE BILLIARDS SUB-COMMITTEE This Sub-Committee is thus made up: T. Pietrolungo (chairman), G. Peron, P. Nandapi, T. Bressolin, J. Pilot, A. Sasso.

Billiards have been a popular amusement within the Club in the past year.

The Sub-Committee was formed expressely with the aim of stimulating competition within the Club. Up' to date three very successful championships have been completed, with 120 members participating in each championship. In future it is hoped to enter in open competitions with other clubs.

Thanks to all members of the Sub-Committee for their magnificent effort.

Uno scorcio della Sala S. Marco in una normale sera domenicale, mentre viene servita la popolare "cena familiare" che, nonostante it rincaro di tutti i prezzi, pub essere ancora offerta a tariffe ridottissime, tali da indurre veramente le famiglie ad andare a cenare al Club.

Un colpo d'occhio sulla Sala Venezia (soltanto la sezione ovest) in occasione del pranzo pasquale che ha richiamato a mezzogiorno oltre 450 soci.

Le nostre candidate the hanno concorso al titolo di "Miss Veneto", insieme al presidente del VSC, cay. Torn Agnolettl, ed alla sig.ra L. Dal Bosco, presidente del "Ladies' Auxiliary Committee". Le prime due a sinistra sono Alba Rigoni e Barbara Bof, seconda da destra 6 Lucia Bettioi.

I premiati a conclusione della grande gara sportiva di primavera "Spring Carnival" alla quale, insieme al Veneto Social Club, hanno partecipato altri nove Clubs di tutto it Victoria.

Un aspetto della Sala San Marco durante l'Assemblea Generale dei Soci it 23 giugno 1977. Vi parteciparono oltre 700 soci.

S.E. Mona. Pangrazio, in visite a Melbourne, viene festeggiato da un folto stuolo di parenti ed asiaghesi nella Sala Venezia, dopo aver celebrato la Messa nella Sala S. Marco.

Un gruppo di Alpini di Melbourne, fra cut molti fondatori del Veneto Social Club, ad una delle loro tradizionali allegre riunioni nei locali del Club.
