VENETO SOCIAL CLUB MELBOURNE

ASSEMBLEA GENERALE DEI SOCI

26 MAGGIO, 1971

RESONATO DELL'ANIO 19701971

Preparato a cura di G. V. Scornparin

Segreteria: 691 HIGH STREET, THORNBURY — Telephone: 44-0651

I soci harao raggiunto it limite massimo di 700.

CONCLUSIONE

E' evidente quanto sia grande e quanto lavoro it nostro sodalizio richieda.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT 1970-1971 It is with pleasure that. I present my report on the activities of the Veneto Social Club over the past year. Much credit has to be given to the personal sacrifice of the Committee for the work the Club has carried out so far. I have much pleasure in advising that the preliminary work on the land of the Club has been commenced: The land has been excavated, for weeks filling has been brought on the site and a cyclone fence has been erected. Groups of members, are attending each Sunday, with Lino Bettiol as acting Garden Director, to clean the land and preparing tree beds on what will be the garden of the Club. The Plans that were prepared by our Architect, Mr. Smrekar, are now in the hands of the Doncaster Council. Unfortunately we spent about one year in obtaining the finalization of the project in a form acceptable to the Board of Works. Now what remains to be done are minor details which will have to be finalized by the Council and the Architect. It is hoped that these details should be completed in a matter of a few days and then on the recommendation of the Committee, it is proposed to tender for the building. The next Financial Year will be a crucial year for the Veneto Social Club. Much finance will be needed for the building of the Club House. To achieve this our money must be spent wisely and competent people are required to budget and to handle our finances. I feel that a sub-committee of experts should specialize on this particular aspect but the work of this sub-committee alone will not be sufficient unless all members are prepared to co-operate with the Committee so that we may be able to perform and complete a satisfactory job. Undoubtedly, we have much hope and faith for the Club but the Club, to be successful, will need the charity of its members. Not so much the charity of giving, but the charity of supporting your management Committee by investing whatever money you might have lying idle in the imminent issuing of debentures. Only if we raise sufficient money with debentures can we be successful with the proposed building. As many of you already know, the social and sporting activities have grown in the past twelve months and are continuing to grow and sub-committees have been formed with our sportsmen. Again this year the Club has given much service for the benefit and advantage of our members with travel groups to Italy. Many members have saved hundreds of dollars in their trips overseas. The formation of the Veneto Youth Club and the enthusiasm with which its young members have worked for one year now is most commendable. It must not be forgotten that they will be the future members of our Club and we should support many of their ideas. The Ladies Auxiliary Committee have done, again, very much work for charity. In the past few years, the Club has been working for the Spastic Children's Society of Victoria but the Committee has decided that this year we shall work for another worthy organization -- The Royal Children's Hospital. Many firms and individuals have given their support to us during the year and I personally thank all of them including all Italian newspapers for advertising most of our functions. I have been your president for four years but whether I shall be re-elected or not you can be assured that in any case I have made provisions for the affairs of the Club to proceed smoothly and as planned. In conclusion, I would like to thank once more all executive members for the support they have given me over the past 12 months, for the effort they have put into their various activities, and the patience they have displayed in carrying out their duties. Thank you, David Barro, President

TREASURER'S REPORT

Fellow Members of the Veneto Club, I am again very pleased to report to you on the present financial position of our Club. We again have had another successful year with the Net Worth of the Club increasing from $40551.99 to $58596.83, through an operating profit of $18044.84.

Whilst this profit is less than the profit of the

previous year, it is to be noted that it rates as the second highest profit since the inception of the Club. The cause of the fall in profit has been threefold - (i) By falling attendances at the last few dinner dances and (ii) by increased administration costs due to an increasing membership and (iii) increased expenses re the Bulleen property (such as rates and caretaker). I ask therefore that you be conscious of the fact that the Club must have your support and patronage; that its main source of income is from the functions organised throughout the year and without your attendances profits will fall. Our Social Secretary and his assistants are to be sincerely thanked for their efforts in the organisation of the various social events over the past twelve months, which in total realised a profit of $9898.94.

You will note that our bank accounts show an increase of almost $16000.00 over the previous year after spending in excess of $4000.00 on preliminary works at the Club's Bulleen property, and that the Club has some $45500.00 deposited in its bank accounts. This amount of course is being accumulated towards a beginning of the Club's intended building programme.

Contributions from Foundation Members and other loan contributions for the past year amounted to $8500.00. Thisisan excellent effort and I trust that funds will be continually made available to the Club in this way as this type of contribution is essential towards the beginning of our Club building.

I wish to thank you all for your financial assistance to the Club over the past year be it by loan contributions, by your attendances at our social functions or by payment of your membership fees. M. BONIS Treasurer. 19th May 1971
