anssimi Soci, sono lusingato per il vostro continuo sostegno e per la grande fiducia che ancora avete in me. Io continuer?) a fare il mio lavoro nell'assoluto interesse del Club e cercando di interpretare nel modo piu completo i desideri della maggioranza dei soci. Sono cosciente di lavorare per tutti i soci e cerco, come ho sempre fatto nel passato, di interpretare la volonta di tutti e di rendere contenti quanti mi sia possibile, sempre salvaguardando l'interesse finanziario del nostro Club.

Appena confermato it comitato per il nuovo anno finanziario, ci siamo messi immediatamente al lavoro per terminare i progetti iniziati fin dallo scorso anno. Infatti, it nuovo ascensore e lo "stand" per l'orchestra in Sala Venezia, verranno inaugurati in occasione della festa del 26.mo anniversario it prossimo 10 dicembre. La supervision e l'aiuto volontario di Leo Poli, Dino Belia e Ray Rostolis sono stati indispensabili per il buon successo del progetto.

I lavori per adeguare it campo sportivo allo standard richiesto per gli allenamenti per le olimpiadi del prossimo anno, sono tutt'ora in corso e procedono a ritmo serrato. Non ci saranno ritardi e tutto sara fatto nel migliore dei modi, cib anche grazie al costante interessamento di Vittorio Sist.

Inutile ripetere che il Club procede bene, sia finanziariamente che nelle diverse attivita sociali e sportive. Cia e it meritato compenso per la buona amministrazione e per l'attaccamento di tutti i soci al nostro sodalizio. Tutto continuera anche nel futuro e comunque questo a it nostro augurio e la nostra speranza. Infatti sia il personale del Club, sia tutti i volontari che per il Club non si risparmiano nel dare il loro appoggio e la loro cooperazione, continuano a lavorare come sempre ed io ne sono riconoscete e voglio ringraziare tutti di vero cuore.

Grazie quindi a tutti: Grazie ai soci, al mio comitato, alle "Ladies Auxiliary", a tutti i volontari e sottocomitati, al personale dipendente e a tutti gli amici del Veneto Club.

Dal Comitato "Ladies Auxiliary" Amici Soci Come si nota it tempo scorre veloce, un altro anno e passato in buona armonia incontrandoci nella nostra seconda casa, it "Veneto Club", per passare due ore in compagnia. Questo programma mira a sminuire i disagi dell'isolamento provvedendo ad un giorno di sostegno sociale in un ambiente confortevole e sicuro con assistenti sociali di lingua italiana. Gli anziani italiani che trovano difficile uscire da soli dal loro ambiente o dalla casa della loro famiglia, possono aderire a questo gruppo. Le persone con impedimenti per fragility fisica o saranno aiutate in maniera discreta e con cura. II programma si svolge di venerdi dalle 11 antimeridiane alle 4 pomeridiane. E disponibile un mezzo di trasporto dalla propria abitazione al centro e ritorno. Il costo e di $ 7 che include it pranzo (lunch), it trasporto e it to al mattino e al pomeriggio.

BOCCE NEWS The 1999-2000 season of Bocce has now started and with the new millennium all Bocce players and committee members will have to work hard for the sport to continue for future generations. Veneto Club Bocce player's have once again proved that they are a force to be reckoned with whether in participation or the administration of the sport.

Season 1998-1999 was an eventful year with the Crown competition held at the Palladium easily the highlight for most Bocce players.

Season 1998-1999 saw all Veneto Club Member's represent Victoria in the State Championships congratulations to E.Colla M. Velo, V Brecevic, F. Cardinale and team manager S. Gatto for representing Victoria.

M.Velo and V. Brecevic managed to worthy 2nd in the doubles for Victoria in a competition dominated by the Qld team. M. Velo finished behind F. Cardinale from Casa d' Abruzzo by only 3 points in the regular 1998-199 Victorian Bocce Federation seasons.

In the A-Grade competition saw Veneto Club Bocce players dominate the top position with all five players promoted to State league being Veneto. Congratulations to Rombo Brazzale for finishing the top of AWest.

In the Women's Category's, Mrs B. Martini won the trophy for the best in the B Grade and A. Giacomini A- Grade in the women's federation competition. Angese also finished on top in of the federation ladder.

Congratulation on representing the Veneto Club so well. . For season 1999-2000 we welcome two new ladies to represent the Veneto Club. Mrs. Pavan and Mrs. Michiletto and

two new men Mr. G Malerba and Mr. T Fae, They all enjoyed Bocce so much in the night competition that they decided to represent the Veneto Club in the federation competition. We wish all new and current player well for season 1999-2000 and I hope they continue to enjoy Bocce well into the next Millennium The Members Night

competition on Wednesday nights is still going strong and is managing to attract new and past players to the sport. With an average of 38 players per night I'm sure this will increase in the warmer months. Thank you to Rina Gatto and Silvio whose hard work and dedication to running this competition is appreciated by all involved. The successful

formula continues to instill the Veneto style of playing in a friendly and competitive nature.

The Castagna Cup a new competition this year wasn't the success that we had hoped for.

Involvement from other clubs was poor but I'm sure the news will spread next year and a bigger and better competition will be the result. Thank you to Mr. Alfonzo Pizzini for sponsoring this competition and his commitment to do the same next year.

Only just a few weeks ago the annual Presidents cup was run and won with 38 members enjoying the "Tippo Ministrone" competition. Thank you to Cay. A. Martini for being the perfect host to this competition.

We would like to thank the following persons individually for their contribution to Bocce at the Veneto Club. All involved have given their time voluntary and we all thank them. E & A. Bozzanello, G Perosin, B. Martini for serving hungry Bocce players and A. Pozzabon for looking after the dedicated women Bocce players. The Bocce courts maintenance staff G Gatto, M. Velo & G Dedominicis. All the persons who assisted in the Melbourne cup and Easter Monday Competition BBQs. Mr. P Montagna, Renzo Bordin and P. Bongiorno for assisting in the maintenance of the Bocce courts.

S & R Gatto for their dedicated work in making most of the competitions possible. E. Gatto S. Gatto, E. Colla G Gatto, M. Velo, R. Brazzale and G Agonoletto their work as committee member.

Members of the club dedicated to the sport like Mr. Tony Pegoraro have to be acknowledged for their dedication to the sport. As a sponsor and secretary of the Bocce federation of Australia his only wish is to see the sport succeed. Mr. & Mrs. P. Gusatto do their bit for the Bocce federation Of Victoria. Their iron fist approach should give the sport a firm base for the next generation

of Bocce players. Mr. A. Pozzer another Veneto Club Member is the chairman of the New Generation Bocce whom are an group of younger Bocce players keen to see the sport succeed. His uncompromising attitude and the will to see the sport succeed should see more new players to Bocce. We hope the New Generation Bocce group continues to use the Veneto Club Bocce courts.

New season will bring new challenges with it with the world championships in Lyon France.

The Veneto Club should have at least one representative with V. Brecevic tipped to be the favorite.

A lot of good performances are needed from now until then to impress the selectors. Good luck to all the Veneto Club players in this quest.

Thank you to the loyal sponsors who have donated generous resources to the sport of Bocce at the Veneto Club. Mr. Joe Belizzzia from Lalor Timber and Joinery has been a sponsor for a number of years now and has sponsored numerous competitions at the Veneto Club over the years.

the women's singles competition.

This year is held again in Early December. Thank you Pantalica Cheese for sponsoring the men's singles competition and the presentation Night Raffle. Their donation of products from their fine range for prizes has helped make competitions and the presentation night a success.

Thank you to Pantalica for their support and hope they continue to offer their support for season 1999-2000.

1999-2000 will sure be an interesting season with many events sure to make the season interesting Competition like the Lawn Bowls vs. Bocce should be an experience for our Bocce Players. The annual Trip this year is to Griffith in May and the return Visit of the Marconi Bocce players to the Veneto Club early next year, extend our friendship with Bocce.

Our Bocce players will this year visit the Mount Gambier ISC for the annual Gara raffa early next year. Also on the 30 January 2000 the Children's Cup which will be another successful year.

Thank you to all the players and workers for and excellent 1998-1999, and hope the new season brings like rewards to all. Good luck and see you on the Bocce court.

Federazione Australlana Bocce Nel mese di luglio scorso, a Casablanca (Marocco), l'Australia ha partecipato ai campionati mondiali di bocce "Under 18" e "Under 23". Dodici paesi hanno partecipato a questi Mondiali. Per la squadra "Under 23" non 6 stato un campionato dei migliori; infatti sono usciti subito alla prima eliminazione. Le gare di campionato erano per it titolo di campione mondiale di "Tiro di Precisione" e di "Tiro Progressivo". Nella prima speciality ha giocato per l'Australia Angelo Parisi del Victoria e nella seconda Robert Mikuletic del New South Wales.

Anche per la squadra "Under 18" le cose non sono andate molto meglio. Anche questa squadra stata eliminata alla prima partita.

Solo nelle gare di "Tiro di Precisione" it giovane Joe Pascuzzi a riuscito a passare le prime eliminatorie.

Nelle gare di Doppio e Singolo, Joseph Marinelli del North Queensland e Simon Topatig del Queensland, non sono riusciti a passare neppure le prime eliminatorie.

Nelle semifinali it Campionato si e fermato per la morte del Re del Marocco e la

Federazione Mondiale Bocce ha deciso di continuare e finire questi campionati mondiali a Lyon in Francia a novembre, due giorni prima che inizino i campionati mondiali di bocce per la categoria Senior.

Nel mese di ottobre ad Adelaide (South Australia) si sono svolte le "7th Master Games".

Ancora una volta i bocciofili hanno partecipato a questa grande manifestazione sportiva. Anche se la partecipazione dei bocciofili non sia stata molto numerosa, tutti coloro che vi hanno partecipato si sono detti soddisfatti per la qualita del gioco e per it clima di amicizia che si a creato. Hanno gareggiato in perfetta armonia uomini e donne dai 35 anni di eta in su.

Gli organizzatori delle "Master Games" hanno offerto come premio medaglie di riconoscimento per i classificati dal primo al terzo posto. La manifestazione bocciofila si svolta al Veneto Club di Adelaide.

Speriamo che anche in futuro it gioco delle bocce sia incluso in questa grande manifestazione sportiva e di amicizia.

Il prossimo campionato nazionale bocce giovanile si svolgera nel mese di aprile nel Western Australia. Durante le competizioni per questo campionato si giochera anche una competizione aperta a tutti gli "Under 35".

Il campionato bocce per le categoric Senior, Maschile e Femminile, si svolgera in South Australia ad Adelaide durante it "Queen's Birthday long week-end" del prossimo giugno.

II Campionato Mondiale di Bocce per la categoria Senior, si svolge in Francia a Lyon nel corso del mese di novembre. Mentre scriviamo questa relazione non siamo ancora a conoscenza dei risultati e pertanto possiamo darvi solo i nomi dei bocciofili che compongono la squadra australiana.

Bulleen Inter Kings Soccer Report The 1999 season has been rather disappointing as far as results go for our senior team. We had a lot of close games that unfortunately did not go our way.

On a brighter side our Under 21 team did very well especially when the National League competition finished because until then they had to play two and sometimes more games per week.

They finished near the top. We had quite a few young promising players that will be pushing for first team selection this coming season. I would like to congratulate all the players for the marvellous year. Also, a special mention for a job well done to Egon Schille and Tony Petta in charge of the Bulleen and Box Hill Juniors, they have done a great job, having most of the teams in every age groups on top or very near the top. I must say that we are proud to have two of the best junior set ups in Victoria.

A great achievement was having 5 teams from both juniors set up in the 7 VSF Cup Finals. We won 3 and 2 runner ups. A very good effort, a big thank you must go to all the coaches and team managers of all the juniors.

In the past three years as President, I have had a lot of help from a list of people. I would like to thank them all very much for their support, starting from the board members. A special thank you for the following kiosk helpers - Fiorenza Stocco, Diana Agnoletto, Antonietta Rigo, Margaret Marino. Ground staff DM. Giovanni Pizzato that kept our playing pitch in top conditions; all year (with a little help from the sky). Joe Catabile, Giovanni Ruffolo, Mario Ruffolo Tom Incerti, Joe Cinque and Frank Carbone for the help in running match days.

Mary Castelli for keeping the seniors gear spotless and all the other helpers for the reserves and seniors.

I would like to thank all our sponsors large and small for

their sponsorship in the past 12 months. It is greatly appreciated, without them it would be very difficult to survive. A special thank you to the Veneto Club for their continuous support.

For the near future there are some very exciting projects like the proposed second division of the National League with promotion and relegation.

Hopefully we will be invited to be a part of it.

I would like to conclude by saying that we have a great club with enormous potential, so we need all the support we can get to make it bigger and better.

To my successor I wish him all the very best and he can count on all support where and when required.

BULLEEN VENETO JUNIOR SOCCER What a season for the Junior Soccer Teams of the Veneto Club!!!

The Junior Soccer Teams (8 in total) have achieved a remarkable year, winning five (5) Championships and two (2), very prestigious, Victorian Soccer Federation Cups. This is the highest number of championships won by any Victorian club this year, as well as the highest number of cups.

U13 team has won the Championship with very high quality soccer, in a top class Super League competition. Eager for more success, they went on to win the prestigious Victorian Cup even

with a very difficult draw. The team is undefeated this year, scoring the most goals (114 goals in 28 games) against the lowest number allowed (11 only).

The U14A, in their first year of existence, won the Championship in a very exciting and tight season. Well done to the players, the coach and the team manager for this great achievement!

Tennis at Veneto Club Tennis Members, As the days grow longer it is giving us further opportunity to enjoy this great game of ours in daylight, during the evenings and at night with the warmer weather.

Our facilities at the Veneto Club are unmatched by any other tennis club in Victoria. Members should appreciate this and not take these amenities for granted. The more you put in to our club the more you will get out of it. Members should join in Tennis Club functions and events. Many people put in much effort to organise events and all they want in return is your participation.

Our Tennis Club Annual Dinner Dance has been booked for Saturday 20 May 2000 in the Sala San Marco. A fun night is guaranteed with fine food, dancing and good company. The committee urges all members to organise a table to help make our millennium dinner dance the best ever. Please mark this date in your diaries now and confirm your attendance with a committee member sooner rather than later.

District competition for the Spring season is coming to an end with many teams destined to make the finals. Best of luck to all those teams that make the finals and let's hope we can add more pennants to our collection.

Coming up to Christmas we will be holding a Mixed Round Robin and the regular Brutti & Belli competitions. The mid-year Belli e Brutti saw the introduction of the Ladies `Tutte Belle'. The ladies after seeing how much fun the blokes were having decided to run their own appropriately named tournament. The winners of the prestigious Belli competition Tony Gallicchio and Andrew Brest fought off a hard challenge.

Alfredo Costanzo and Umberto Masci took out the Brutti.

Inaugural winners of the l'utte Belle' Frances Bettiol and Jose Di Monte proved too powerful for Jill Cappellin and Rosita Giusti. Both competitions were very successful with no more than the usual complaints about handicapping than usual! These events are organised to add to the social dimension of sports participation.

It is a great opportunity to meet other members in a fun and healthy atmosphere.

Our junior numbers are growing and the standard improving. District winners in the

autumn season put confidence in our teams. The junior members formed a VTA Pennant team with the help of resident coaches Glenn Busby and Vince Datolli. Children are welcome to play competition for Veneto and teams are arranged to cater for all standards. Parents should encourage children to play competition sports in teams. What better sport than tennis. Tennis is a very safe sport; friends and family almost everywhere with the minimum of equipment and fuss can enjoy it.

Our VTA State Grade pennant team finished fifth for the 1999 season. This standard of tennis at our club gave members the chance to view top class tennis on our own courts. Hopefully will be entering another team in the 2000 competition.

Sponsorship signs have been placed on fences around our courts. This enables our tennis club to enter teams in the VTA State Grade Pennant. Without our sponsors this top quality tennis would not be available at the Veneto Club for our members to

Our committee is here to facilitate the smooth running of the Tennis Club for the benefit of its members. Setueb Premiership for Veneto The Club's top team, captained by Chris Apswoude, won a thrilling Grand Final in B2 Grade against a strong Maccabi Team in the VSRA Autumn Season. That win resulted in promotion to B1 Grade for the current Spring Season and as we go to press at the halfway mark, the team is well clear on top of the points ladder. We look forward to a second flag this year from that team and promotion to A Grade in 2000.

The Club's Second Team is also having a great spring season. It is currently well clear on top of C3 Grade.

SHOOTERS II tempo passa inesorabilmente e siamo nuovamente a Natale. Il nostro gruppo di tiratori al piattello appartenenti al Veneto Club non e molto numeroso ma molti altri tiratori di diversi club partecipano a questo sport assieme a noi.

Dobbiamo comunque dare merito ai nostri appassionati tiratori che con la loro abnegazione e la loro passione per questo sport riescono a tenere compatto e attivo questo gruppo.

Nell'ultima competizione della "South East Zone Shooters" it nostro Club si e distinto pregevolmente. Pur non avendo vinto la competizione, si ĂŞ piazzato al secondo posto con lo scarto di un solo punto. II merito di questo onorevole piazzamento deve essere

attribuito ai nostri validi tiratori: Ernesto Bertollo, Sergio Zotti, Achille Varrano, Mario Salvatore e Michele Rocca. Auguriamo a questi campioni di avere piu fortuna nel prossimo incontro e di poter quindi vincere la competizione.

Siamo ormai prossimi anche alla fine di questo anno e pertanto e tempo di auguri e di ringraziamenti.

di Bulleen e dintorni II Prosecco di Conegliano Fra non molto entreremo nel 2000. Quante cose sono avvenute in questo millennio. Non e da me a dirlo perche gia tutti lo sappiamo, cosa succedera nel 2000 sara una grande incognita.

Sara meglio tornare alle nostre cose. Il nostro circolo funziona bene e credo che sia fra i pia consistenti come membri. Qualcuno se ne andato ma purtroppo a legge di natura e altri hanno preso it loro posto.

Quest'inverno, anche perch& it tempo lo ha permesso, sono state fatte delle gite. Tutti sono rimasti contenti anche perche a un diversivo e, se it tempo lo permettera, ne faremo ancora.

Club

Il giorno 14 novembre it Comitato direttivo, per la'seconda volta consecutiva, dopo un'assenza di parecchi anni, ha reintrodotto e organizzato la giornata dello sport intitolata "Sport Spring Carnival".

Parecchie persone e atleti di diverse discipline sportive hanno preso parte a questa giornata dedicata allo sport alla quale hanno partecipato altri club italiani e anche un club tedesco.

Le competizioni sportive si sono svolte nelle bocce, calcio, tennis, palla a rete, squash, biliardi, palla canestro e taekwando. Vi erano anche alcune attrazioni per i bambini piu piccoli.

La giornata e stata bellissima con tanto sole e piena di attivita. Tuttavia la partecipazione dei soci del Veneto Club none ancora cosi numerosa come lo era nel passato. Speriamo che con it successo ottenuto quest'anno, come pure nello scorso anno, la giornata ritorni ad essere popolare come prima e magari con una partecipazione ancora maggiore.

Chi vi ha partecipato a rimasto contento per l'organizzazione e per it servizio offerto e vi e stato molto svago ed un'atmosfera familiare e amichevole.

A nome del Presidente, del Comitato e mio personale, desidero ringraziare tutti coloro che si sono prestati per aiutare nell'organizzazione e nello svolgimento di questa fantastica giornata.

Nessun'altra donna immigrata in Australia nel secondo dopoguerra ci ha mai detto tanto quanto Diana Ruzzene in questo suo libro, voce autentica di donna immigrata.

Scorrendo la seconda parte di questa mirabile storia ci si rende conto di cosa volesse veramente dire essere una donna italo-australiana negli anni Cinquanta e Sessanta. Avvilite dal sarcasmo razzista, represse dalla Chiesa, cottimiste sfruttate da imprenditori senza scrupoli, quelle donne dovettero anche sobbarcarsi, in terra straniera, it peso emotivo delle loro famiglie, portare avanti figli e gravidanze e quant'altro considerate di competenza femminile.

Dovunque si sia sviluppato, nell'Australia del

dopoguerra, un ambiente italiano, potete essere certi di trovarvi come protagoniste donne come quelle descritte in questo libro, it primo a narrare una tale storia, a spiegare contro quali forze si trovarono a lottare incluse quelle della Chiesa.

Per capire invece cosa abbia spinto queste donne ad attraversare tante avversita dovete leggere la prima parte del libro in cui viene descritta quella vita che fisicamente si erano lasciate alle spalle ma che portarono con se nel loro cuore attraverso gli oceani. Questo libro rappresenta una lettura indispensabile per chi voglia comprendere la realta femminile nel contesto dell'emigrazione.

Coffiunita Montana del 7 Comuni The "Comunita dei Sette Comuni" Club members have enjoyed a busy schedule of events in 1999.

In February there was the one day bus trip to Ballarat, with a visit to Sovereign Hill and the attendance at the spectacular Sound and Light Show in the evening.

In March the Club participated in the "Sagra Gastronomica", held at the Veneto Club, where friends and family were treated to "Salsicce e Crauti, Polenta e Formaggio".

Easter in April was a time for getting together for our Annual "Bicchierata di Pasquetta", and this month also saw another trip, this time for two days, to view the wonderful scenery and sights of the Grampians.

In August, it was decided to attack the winter weather with more than just the central heating. A most successful "Vin Brule", with "Pane e Soppressa", afternoon was organised and members, friends and family also enjoyed viewing a well produced video "L'Altopiano dai mille colori".

The Golf Club members have also had another successful year's tournaments, with wins to both young and not so young.

Another very popular evening was the Annual Dinner Dance, held on the 23rd October and we still have a further trip to Swan Hill and all the Christmas festivities to look forward to.

I membri della comunita dei Sette Comuni di Asiago hanno potuto partecipare a molti avvenimenti nel 1999.

A febbraio c'era it viggio di un giorno a Ballarat, per visitare Sovereign Hill e godere lo spettacolo meraviglioso dei "Suoni e Luci" durante la serata.

A marzo il Club ha provveduto Salsicce e Crauti, con Formaggio e Polenta, tutto mangiato e goduto da tanti alla Sagra Gastronomica al Veneto Club.

A Pasqua, in aprile, era il momento di radunarsi per la nostra "Bicchierata di Pasquetta" annuale e questo mese ha visto anche un'altra gita per i membri ed amici, questa volta di due giorni, per godere it panorama e luoghi turistici interno ai Grampians.

In agosto abbiamo deciso di combattere it tempo invernale non solo con il riscaldamento centrale, ma anche con l'organizzazione di un pomeriggio con "Vin Brule, Pane e Soppressa" un'idea di gran successo e tutti hanno potuto ammirare le vedute dei dintorni di Asiago nella presentazione di un bellissimo video intitolato "L'Altopiano dei mille colori".

I membri del gruppo Golf hanno anche partecipato a van tornei durante l'anno con vincite ai giovani e... non tanto giovani.

Recentemente abbiamo goduto la compagnia di molti membri ed amici al nostro Ballo Annuale e adesso abbiamo ancora davanti a not un'altra gita a Swan Hill per tre giorni ed anche tutte le Feste Natalizie. Veramente una bella fine del secolo.

Associazione Veronesi nel Mondo

Anche quest'anno tutti i soci con gli amici dell'associazione Veronesi nel Mondo si sono riuniti l'otto agosto per celebrare la festa della famiglia nella sala Venezia al Veneto Club. Per la prima volta, in seguito alla richiesta dei soci, si voluto celebrare all'ora di pranzo invece della sera; it pranzo a stato eccellente come pure il servizio, ma soprattutto tanta allegria veniva a crearsi fra i commensali. Ospiti della giornata erano il vice presidente Veronesi nel Mondo di Griffith Enzo Croce e Signora...

Tutto it Comitato era presente ed in piena azione, ognuno svolgendo it proprio incarico faceva si che tutto andasse per il meglio. Il quadro di Verona che viene offerto dall'Associazione, come di consueto si estrae non dalla lettera ma dal numero della medaglia che ogni socio in quel giorno dovra presentare se sorteggiato. Quest'anno it premio e andato al fortunato vincitore Sig. Pino Crocco di Geelong il quale a stato molto orgoglioso di aver vinto questo magnifico regalo.

L'associazione invita tutti i soci ed amici per il rituale raduno di S. Lucia il 12 dicembre prossimo, nel parco del Veneto Club. Un banchetto sara offerto dall'Associazione, B B Q vini e dolci saranno serviti. Da non dimenticare it rinnovo della tessera. La festa sara allietata da musiche popolari con it Trio Brancatella. Grazie al Comitato.

Melbourne 11 nostro club Cos'e questo nostro club di cui tutti parlano ? un edificio sempre pieno di gente. Per ben descriverlo bisogna pensare ai fondatori che per primi hanno messo i propri sudori.

Noi siamo in Australia, terra lontana, ma entrando qui si respira aria italiana. Da qui son passati ministri operai e dottori, lo staff del Veneto Club a tutti sa fare gli onori. Le persone piix anziane ricordano che un tempo giocare alle carte era l'unico divertimento.

Ora invece ci sono tante cose che si possono fare, la gente quando 6 qui non se ne vuole piu andare.

Nel nostro club si fa pure la serata culturale, che fa parte della nostra vita sociale. E tra uno sport, ballo e belle cenette i nostri soci finiscono le serate alle macchinette.

Chi e venuto prima di not ci ha lasciato in gestione questo patrimonio da consegnare alla nuova generazione.

II Veneto Club non ha mai fatto distinzioni fra veneti, lombardi o gente di altre nazioni.

Bisognerebbe fermarsi un attimo a ricordare tutte le persone che qui si sono date da fare. La loro testimonianza e lo spirito che hanno lasciato significa mantenere nel futuro it nostro passato.

ASSOCIAZIONE TREVISANI Nel Mondo Inc. Siamo ormai alla fine del 1999 e I'A.T.M. di Melbourne puo ritenersi soddisfatta delle attivita svolte durante l'anno. Ebbero un ottimo successo il picnic di febbraio nei locali del Veneto Club, la festa del Santo Protettore di Treviso, San Pio X, con una santa messa nella chiesa di St. Clement a Bulleen, seguita da un ottimo pranzo nella sala Venezia del Veneto Club. Verso la fine di giugno una quarantina di Trevisani partiva alla volta del Canada ove sostarono otto giorni visitando le pill belle citta dell'Est: Toronto, Guelph, Ottawa, Quebec, Montreal e incontrandosi con forti rappresentanze di Trevisani di quelle citta. Trovammo amici che da oltre 50 anni non vedevamo Trevisani con le stesse ambizioni, gli stessi ideali e la stessa grande nostalgia del paese che hanno lasciato.

Dopo it Canada ciascuno ando in famiglia per passarvi alcune settimane con i parenti.

Ogni mercoledi mattina, giorno di mercato, era bello incontrarsi sotto la Loggia di Montebelluna a scambiare idee per poi finire in un bar a consumare insieme "un bianchetto".

Il 2 settembre 26 Trevisani che erano stati insieme in Canada si rincontrarono a Montebelluna per partire in corriera verso la Puglia con.24 altri amici e parenti.

Fu una magnifica gita piena di gioia e di serenita. Visitammo Alberobello, Ostumii, il Gargano e ci fermammo tre notti a San Giovanni Rotondo, il paese reso famoso nel mondo da Padre Pio, che fu beatificato il 2 maggio di

quest'anno. Il numero di pellegrini che visitano questo luogo ha superato Lourdes e Fatima e i phu grandi santuari del mondo. Fu una bellissima esperienza per tutti toccare con mano quello che un povero frate, perseguitato per quasi tutta la sua vita da autorita religiose e civili, ha fatto in quello che anni fa era un povero villaggio di contadini. II Santuario della Madonna delle Grazie, la Casa della Sofferenza, it nuovo tempio che sta sorgendo e l'estendersi del paese sono la piu bella testimonianza della santita di quest'uomo. Da San Giovanni Rotondo si torna cambiati in meglio e con piu fiducia nella vita.

Nel mese di settembre un po' alla volta sono tornati tutti a Melbourne, dopo aver sperimentato it disagio che ha causato it fatto che l'Alitalia non venga piu in Australia. Partenze a

ore impensate, arrivi in piena notte e attese che non finiscono mai...

Dal 7 ottobre al 14 ottobre ben 95 Trevisani di Melbourne si trovarono con altri 500 venuti da tutta l'Australia e dall'Italia a Perth per il quinto Congresso dei Trevisani. Fu un incontro fraterno it cui tema era: I Trevigiani uniti entrano nel III millennio guidati dalla lute della candela alla ricerca di nuovi valori sociali.

Naturalmente l'accendere la candela 6 parte dell'inno dei Trevisani. Cosi, mentre la maggior parte dei 95 venuti da Melbourne visitavano Perth e dintorni, cinque rappresentanti, con a capo Bepi Crema,

parteciparono alla conferenza assieme ai dirigenti di tutte le altre sezioni d'Australia e ai rappresentanti venuti dall'Italia.

Sabato e domenica ci furono la cena e it pranzo ufficiale e gli altri giorni furono occupati con vari tours a nord, sud e est di Perth.

E per it futuro? L'ultima attivita di quest'anno sara it dinner dance nella sala Venezia del Veneto Club venerdi 19 novembre con la consegna di medaglie e pergamene a chi tra i Trevisani ha fatto piu di 30 anni di Australia.

Una parola di ringraziamento vada ai dirigenti del Veneto Club per l'ospitalita the ci hanno sempre dato e per la collaborazione nella riuscita delle nostre attivita.

ENTE VICENTINI NEL MONDO Sede di Melbourne Qualche mese fa ha fatto notizia la decisione della Monesh University di aprire la prima sede Europea a Prato, aprendo cosi un nuovo capitolo nelle relazioni tra 1'Italia e l'Australia. Mi augur° che un giorno siano pure dei giovani di origine vicentina a usurfruire di tale facility. Il 1999 che stiamo concludendo ha messo alla luce pia che nel passato che realmente tutto it mondo a paese perche sempre pia spesso vediamo i nostri giovani spostarsi da una parte all'altra del globo per lavoro. Ho avuto occasione di incontrarne un paio durante it quarto congresso dei Vicentini D'Australia. Abbiamo goduto tre giorni con i nostri compaesani di Sydney, Woolongong, Griffith, Myrtleford, Camberra, Adelaide. Insieme abbiamo festeggiato le nostre origini Vicentine. Ho visto nel volto di molti la gioia genuina di chi si incontra con amici, paesani o parenti che non vedeva da tempo.

Voglio sentitamente ringraziare it comitato dell'Ente Vicentini di Melbourne e tutti coloro che hanno contribuito con it loro aiuto al successo ottenuto. Net 2000 ci siamo dati appuntamento a Woolongong dove spero di rivederci tutti. .A1la fine di Settembre dopo anni di delusioni it senato della nostra madre patria ha voluto cancellare i 40 anni di indifferenza concedendo agli italiani all'estero it diritto di voto. L'Italia ha finalmente mantenuto it suo impegno sancendo cosi l'uguaglianza dei diritti nei nostri confronti. Ha dato prova di essere un paese democratico e maturo pronto ad affrontare it 2000 con l'alleanza di oltre 60.000.000 italiani che vivono it mondo. Ho dovuto fare accenno al voto perche sono convinto che sta per iniziare una nuova era nei rapporti tra noi e l'Italia. Voglio assicurarmi che noi Vicentini avremmo tutti la facolta di beneficiare di questa

nuova situazione accettando con i diritti anche i doveri.

Siamo prossimi alle Feste Natalizie e non perche a consueto ma perche io e it comitato sentiamo la necessity di augurarvi ogni gioia possibile, tanta buona salute, un santo Natale con la vostra famiglia ed un meraviglioso 2000, Nuovo Anno, Nuovo Secolo, Nuovo Millennio. (chi ben incomincia e a meta dell'opera) A Tutti Sentitamente Augurissimi.

E arrivato ancora il tempo di riflettere sugli eventi dell'anno passato. Posso rilevare che a stato un anno meraviglioso di festivity e di riunioni familiari. I nostri soci e amici hanno partecipato ad una serata di gala e a tante altre serate familiari e van B.B.Q. nelle cui occasion, persone di tutte le eta hanno potuto godere delle feste e della compagnia.

Una delle note pill rilevanti dell'anno a stata quella di aver ricevuto un "Grant" (sussidio) dalla Victoria Multicultural Commission che ci a stato presentato dall'on.David Perrin, (PM membro di Bulleen). Questo "Grant" e stato speso per acquistare dell'equipaggiamento per la cucina per la nostra Associazione. Inoltre, la Commissione Multi-culturale ci ha invitato a partecipare ad una serata di gala al Melbourne Exhibition Building, con la partecipazione dell'on Jeff Kennett. Circa 2000 invitati di tutte le comunita etniche di Melbourne erano presenti alla serata.

La nostra annuale festa di Sant'Antonio e stata un grandissimo successo, non solo per i nostri soci, ma anche per i loro amici. Come al solito, ogni persona che ha il nome di Antonio o Antonia, riceve una bottiglia di spumante in omaggio dalla nostra Associazione.

Attualmente i nostri soci si stanno preparando per una gita di due giorni a Warrnambool e ai monti Grampians.

Su questo evento, nella prossima edizione di questo periodico, fare la mia relazione.

Colgo l'occasione per ringraziare it Presidente del Veneto Club ed it suo Comitato per l'ospitalita e per il loro aiuto durante l'anno.

Porgiamo a tutti i soci ed amici i nostri pill sinceri auguri di un felice Santo Natale, con una visione grandissima per il 2000.
