comincio proprio col ringraziarvi per la fiducia che mi avete nuovamente riconfennato.

Io, come sempre continuer6 a dare it mio contributo al Club senza risparmio di tempo e di energia.

Questanrio siamo giunti alla conclusione molto sospirata di quel progetto che stava andando avanti da ormai oltre tre anni. Il nuovo "Centro Sportivo" e stato inaugurato il 17 ottobre scorso. La massiccia presenza di soci alla cerimonia di inaugurazione ha dimostrato l'apprezzamento per tale opera. Il "Coro Veneto" ha dato la sua contribuzione esibendosi durante la cerimonia.

Io credo che questa nuova struttura del club apra ai giovani, figli dei nostri soci, e a tutti quelli della comunita della zona, una nuva prospettiva di attivita sportive che costituira l'avvenire della nostra organizzazione. II nuovo centro infatti pu6 provvedere a diverse discipline sportive fra le quali possiamo menzionare la palla-canestro, la palla-rete, it calcetto (indoorsoccer), e molti altri. Inoltre offre ai giovani una modema palestra (gymnasium) per i loro allenamenti.

Fra le maggiori attrezzature compresa anche una tavola calda (Bistro) dove tutti i visitatori possono trovare ristoro. Nel retro c'e un attrezzatissimo cortile di

Pietro Ferronato, dopo un lungo periodo di contribuzione nel comitato del club, ha deciso di ritirasi per ragione di eta. Gli siamo infinitamente grati per tutta la sua collaborazione e gli auguriamo una lunga presenza fra not per godere di cio che, anche col suo lavoro, abbiamo costruito.

Come 6 stato reso noto con il rapporto finanziario di fine anno it club e sempre in ottime condizioni.

Molto lavoro volontario e stato donato per la costruzione di questo centro ma si deve evidenziare l'opera gratuita di Dino Belia, Leo Poli e Ray Rostolis che assieme al sottoscritto, hanno preso la responsabilita di costruttori (Builders).

uando a fine anno, avendo un po' di tempo a disposizione, ci si mate a ricapitolare i mesi scorsi, si trova sempre qualcosa che si 6 fatto bene e qualcosa che si sarebbe potuto fare meglio.

lo trovo che per il Club in generale la maggior parte delle situazioni, feste e progetti, sono stati completati con soddisfazione di tutti.

L'aver potuto finalmente inaugurare il Centro Sportivo, it parco giochi per i bambini e it nuovo "Bistro" -dimostrano chiaramente le direzioni che it Club ha preso per continuare le attivity ben di lungo nel 21.mo secolo. Tutto quanto sopra dovuto alla grande adesione e supporto che voi soci continuate a darci. Ma ne ho avuto concreta dimostrazione e voglio ringraziare tutti coloro che mi hanno dimostrato stima ed amicizia. Mi

rande festa venerdi 17 ottobre al Veneto Club. Era il coronamento di un ulteriore successo che ha premiato la costanza e la laboriosita dei veneti di Melbourne. II presidente Agostino Martini era, a dir poco, euforico. La gioia e l'orgoglio gli si leggevano negli occhi. Lui ha voluto cosi tanto questo centro sportivo, fino al punto di ripresentarsi nuovamente ai soci per essere rieletto ancora una volta alla carica di presidente per poter inaugurare questo suo prediletto progetto. La sua dedizione al Veneto Club 6 nota a tutti, ma la volonta e l'impegno che ha riposto in questo Centro Sportivo 6 encomiabile. Egli crede che questo nuovo "Palazzetto dello Sport", come lo chiamano scherzosamente al club, induca i giovani a ritornare in famiglia e not speriamo che abbia effettivamente ragione. In questo club, infatti, c'e tutto ci6 che un giovane possa desiderare per il suo tempo libero. I soci, giovani e anziani, hanno partecipato numerosi all'inaugurazione, condividendo assieme al loro presidente, la loro soddisfazione e il loro orgoglio per l'opera compiuta. In mezzo a loro, cosi

gioiosi e ospitali, mi sono sentito come uno di casa ed ero contento anch'io per il loro successo. Applausi, discorsi ufficiali e benedizione, sono cose che accadono sempre in queste circostanze, ma, dopo che l'on Phill Honeywood ha gettato la prima palla nel canestro ed e venuta la volta di Agostino Martini a dover fare lo stesso gesto inaugurale, due giovani atleti veneti l'hanno sollevato da terra avvicinandolo al canestro per aiutarlo. E stata quella un'elevazione di trionfo che certamente ha commosso l'animo di tutti i presenti. Complimenti Agostino, e complimenti anche agli altri membri del comitato direttivo che certamente hanno dato tutto it loro appoggio perche

Tennis Report I

t is with great pleasure that I present this, my first report, as Chairman of the Veneto Tennis SubCommittee. At the Veneto Tennis Annual General Meeting held in July a new committee was formed comprising Maurice Poloni (Vice Chairman), Dino Bettiol (Treasurer), Jill Cappellin (Secretary), Alma Zanatta, Phillip Price, Vince DeGrazia and myself.

I take this opportunity to thank Paul Bisiani and Winners "Belli Section" Maurice Poloni and the previous committee Nick Longo. for their efforts during the prior year. This is the Tennis Club's premier social event, so be sure to make a reservation for next year.

The Autumn competition saw mixed results with Veneto Tennis claiming two pennants in the NENTG. Congratulations to the Women's Section 10, and Men's Section 14 on their successes.

The midseason men's handicap which was once again over subscribed with entrants (we need more courts!) proved a huge success.

by Maurice Poloni and Nick Longo in front of a huge crowd supporting underdogs Michael Sangiorgio and Marino "Bait" Bovo. The Brutti section saw newcomer Philip McCrone and yours truly take the glory over Romeo Crema and Val Di Felice. Such a successful event would not have been possible without the help of our BBQ'er Armando Zanatta.

The Spring '97 season is coming to an end and many of our teams are set to take their place in the finals.

The 1997 Club Championships will be taking

place in November.

The Veneto tennis Club wins the Section One Mens Veterans Tennis Final for the first time.

This is the fifth season that the Veneto Club has fielded a team in the mens fifty and over mens veteran tennis competition as part of the Eastern Region MidWeek Tennis Association; achieving only moderate success until now.

After a very slow start to the season, and with the team in second last position mid way through the competition, the players finally found some much

needed form and confidence to finish the season off with six straight wins.

This enabled the team to finish in second place on the ladder, and set up a clash in the finals with the teams arch rival Diamond Creek.

The grand final was played at the Ringwood Tennis Club on a warm sunny afternoon, and much to the delight of the six players in

the Veneto team, they managed to win all six sets, to finally take out the coveted Mens Veterans Section One summer competition for 1997.

Captain of the team was Mario Basso., and he was ably supported

by Laurie, Garry, Oriano, Rino and Graham.

Dal Comitato Bocce â&#x20AC;˘ BOCCEDROME RENOVATIONS We would like to thank Mr Agostino Martini and his Committee for the Sports Centre which will attract the youth back to our Club and hopefully increase the number of Bocce player's at the Veneto Club. The renovations to

representing the Veneto Club and again this year our players are on top of their respective categories, proving that at the Veneto Club we have a very strong base that make all the other Clubs strive to emulate our performances.

Congratulations to F.Noal for leading the A-west Category and

outstanding performances in the 1997 Australian Seniors Championships, for their 1st Placing.

MELBOURNE CUP COMPETITION 1997 On Tuesday 4th November 1997, the Veneto Club Bocce Sub Committee organised a competition for its Bocce players at the Veneto Club Bocce Courts. The day started at 7am with 49 players enjoying the days shortened competition, followed by a B.B.Q. lunch. The Bocce Sub Committee would like to thank all who participated to make the day the success that it was. It was also good to see many new and old faces once again enjoying Bocce at the

Veneto Club. Congratulations to all who won prizes.

CARCIOFI NIGHT 29TH OCTOBER 1997 Thank you all who attended the Veneto Club Bocce Carciofi Night and a special thanks to Vittorio Prociutto (Guitar) and Santo Bevilaqua (Piano Accordion) who made the night a success with their performance. Thank you to the

ladies Auxiliary Committee for their dedicated service to the Bocce Committee, without them the night would not have possible. Also, lets not forget Bianca Martini who provided Crostoli for everyone's enjoyment. Thank you to Mr Martini and his Committee for their continual support of the Carciofi Night. For those who missed out this year be sure to attend next year as we try to make it bigger and better.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT COMPETITION This Bocce Competition is open to anyone who wants to play Bocce and enjoy good company and on the 5th night enjoy a Spaghetti & Presentation night.

The introduction of youth into the Committee should take the sport well into the new Century. Kings raise the standard of Premier League

T

he amalgamation that formed the Bulleen Inter Kings for the 1997 season had many people associated with the clubs involved in the merger wandering just how successful this initiative was going to be.

Following the merger the new board embarked on the very hard road of making the whole concept work not only for the benefit of the new club but also for soccer in Victoria generally.

The hard work offthe park paid off, the formation of the Bulleen Inter Kings proved to be an outstanding success culminating in the club playing off in the 1997 Premier League Grand Final against Altona Magic.

Unfortunately the "Kings" went down in extra time in what was and still is being described as the best Grand Final ever witnessed in the Premier League.

The success achieved by our players must be congratulated particularly when every other club used the "Kings" as their measurement standard.

Every team in the Premier League had to beat Bulleen if they were going to be considered successful in 1997, for twelve out ofthe fourteen teams this proved to be an impossible mission. The commitment, loyalty and dedication our players demonstrated, particularly in the latter half of the season, made everyone associated with the club

Overall crowd attendance's were considerably more than any other year in the Premier League.

Once again this can be attributed to the Bulleen Inter Kings, the amount of people that supported the club this year was unprecedented in the Premier League's recent history. Coupled with opposing teams' supporters urging their teams to beat the "Kings" it is no coincidence that our home matches attracted an average of over 1,000 spectators per match.

The Soccer Main Committee

The threat of the Bulleen Inter Kings being successful forced many of the other Premier League clubs to go out and buy quality players to compete against what many people in soccer circles saw as the birth of a dynasty. The influx of these players at other clubs saw the standard of the Premier League reach heights never before experienced. Senior Team

Of course the superb facilities at the Veneto Club also worked in attracting the many thousands of people that witnessed a truly outstanding Premier League season.

In addition to the success of the senior squad, the reserves also had a rewarding year finishing in the top four of their league.

Throughout the year we saw many

of the young reserve grade players make the step up to senior soccer, a testament to the enormous pool of talent and depth that exists at our club. These resources will ensure future growth and success of the Bulleen Inter Kings.

A special mention should also be made to the Junior clubs of Box Hill Inter and Bulleen Lions. As every one knows they are affiliated

with the "Kings" but have been left alone to run their respective junior setups to produce future stars for the senior club. We take great pride in knowing that both Box Hill Inter and the Bulleen Lions dominated the Eastern Region's junior league competitions in 1997. In fact this year both clubs produced an inordinate amount of players that represented Victoria in the State Championships.

Box Hill Inter had 7 Victorian representatives in the state's under 15's whilst Bulleen boasted 5 in the state's under 16's. Of these, a number of them were awarded scholarships to the Victorian Institute of Sport. Rather than name these players individually we would like to congratulate all the juniors that participated this year and both junior setups for a job well done. We hope to see many of these young boys wearing the club's senior strip in the not too distant future. Dreams can come true!

We have a tremendous wealth of talent at the club, the Kings' job now is to ensure the boys and girls remain at the club and help us achieve our long term goals and objectives. It is our intention to resign the players we had last year for the 1998 season with perhaps two or three new signings to blend in with our youngsters that will be coming up through the ranks to play senior soccer. has recently been sold to Melbourne Knights continuing the trend of young Bulleen players moving to National League clubs.

Len Catalano was awarded a scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra and joins fellow "Kings" player Marco Bresciano in representing the club in the nation's capital. We wish these players all the very best for the future and hope to see them in our club's colours very soon.

he 1997 Soccer Season at Bulleen has ended in great success. All teams are to be proud of what they have achieved this year. We would like to thank the coaches for all the hard work that they put into training and

rules and learning to play in the spirit of the game. The two under 10 teams are now preparing themselves for the official competition in 1998, as they take the step from being subjuniors to juniors. We wish them luck.

The two women's teams also enjoyed success this year. The Lions team coached by Renato

Six teams were entered into the league competition. All were premiers, except the under 14s who faced tough competition in the super league, finishing fourth, and the under 12s who came equal first. These are very satisfying results for all involved.

The Sub Juniors also had a rewarding season as they had an enjoyable season, learning the

What a Season for

Under 11 Nobody could have expected more from the youngest Bulleen Veneto Juniors this year. The Under 11 team took out top honours in their league in style, winning all eighteen (18) matches of the regular season and scoring 75 goals while giving only 2 away. The 2 goals against were both penalties.

In the Victorian Junior Cup (VSF) the boys reached the

semifinals and played one of the best matches ever seen at this level only to lose on penalties.

The team has yet to play the semifinals of the Italian Cup and is certainly looking forward to winning this prestigious tournament.

Overall, the season was an excellent team performance, of a very well coached team (coach Lou Tona and assistant coach Tony Castiello), a well organised team (Team Manager France Bourdon) and mostly, a well

With results like these, we are confident of playing off in the Grand Final of each grade.

We were fortunate to introduce some new players into the current teams. We say welcome to Jim Bristow, Frank Chiodo and Eldo Maggiori.

Furthermore, with the new Sports Centre completed, more youth will come to the Club; Hopefully some ofthem will play squash.

Per l'apertura del nostro "Sports Centre" non potevamo mancare, anche li ci siamo esibiti come potete constatare dalla foto, nel miglior modo possibile, con la partecipazione del tenore Luigi Campeotto abbiamo cantato "Funiculi Funicula".

I1 1 8 ottobre abbiamo fatto un concerto nella chiesa di San Clemente a Bulleen assieme ad altri due

cori, Coro Furlan e Coro Adriatico, organizzato dalla Federazione Cattolica Italiana. E stato un grande spettacolo, questo lo possono testimoniare quelli che hanno partecipato.

Come di consueto siamo andati a Bulla a cantare una Santa Messa per i Calabresi di San Rocco. Venerdi scorso, it 24 ottobre siamo stati a East Doncaster, "The Pines Shopping Centre" per un'attivita multiculturale. Verso la fine di questo mese dovremo andare a cantare alla "Government House" per it nostro Govematore, Sir James Gobbo.

Come vedete le attivita sono molte e cerchiamo di partecipare nel miglior modo possibile.

Ente Vicentini nel Mondo Melbourne

T

utti i vicentini, siano essi vicentini di Vicenza o vicentini che vivono it mondo, quest'anno hanno avuto ancora pia orgoglio delle loro origini. Un grande "Vicenza" ha vinto la "Coppa Italia" dandoci un'emozione del tutto nuova ed indimenticabile.

Per not vicentini di Melbourne 6 stato un anno con i soliti problemi e anche di grandi successi. Certamente e

comprensibile in una comunita come la nostra si presentino di tanto in tanto degli ostacoli da superare.

Sto parlando della situazione che si e venuta a creare nel comitato quando ben due dei consiglieri hanno dovuto essere ricoverati in ospedale. Ora grazie al Cielo tutto si a nonnalizzato e siamo tutti pronti a dare it nostro contributo all'Associazione.

Le attivita tutte si sono svolte puntuali e bene organizzate come sempre.

Quest'anno sono stati organizzati viaggi per visitare i tesori di San Marco alla Galleria Nazionale; la "Castagnata" nelle campagne e vigneti della valle dello Yarra. Abbiamo anche visitato Adelaide e Mildura, la Tasmania e l'Italia. Ad Adelaide abbiamo partecipato al congresso nazionale del nostro Ente che ha

un po' fatto le somme del passato e dato uno sguardo lungimirante al futuro. Si e anche determinato che it prossimo congresso nazionale sara ospitato dalla nostra sezione nel 1999.

La Camera di Commercio ed Agricoltura di Vicenza ha premiato con medaglie d'oro due nostri soci: Walter Rebescini e Domenico Spagnolo.

Questo riconoscere l'operato dei vicentini all'estero e certamente un grande onore per chi lo riceve ma deve essere anche visto come un plauso a tutta la comunita vicentina di Melbourne in quanto viene a testimoniare it grande talento e la laboriosita della nostra gente nel continente Australiano.

Ho avuto anche l'onore di consegnare una targa ricordo alla Signora Chiminello, anche lei vicentina residente da tempo nella

casa di riposo San Carlo. Nel giorno del suo 100.mo compleanno abbiamo voluto farle gli augur da parte dei vicentini di Melbourne.

Mi auguro di poterne consegnare molte di queste targhe ai nostri soci.

Tutte le nostre feste hanno riscontrato l'usuale numerosa partecipazione ed un ben meritato

successo. Se si pensa che nella nostra provincia vivono 750.000 persone che danno vita a ben 85.000 imprese con manifatturato esportato di 15.226 miliardi, si capisce subito che gente siamo perche it fare le cose per bene a nel nostro sangue.

Il merito certamente vostro carissimi soci e ye ne ringrazio sentitamente da

parte del comitato e mia. Un grazie riconoscente e spontaneo lo porgo a tutti i membri del comitato che, chi pin chi meno, hanno contribuito con molto spirito di units e progressivita a svolgere i compiti onerosi che si susseguono nella organizzazione degli eventi.

A tutti con grande cordiality auguro che le festivity Natalizie siano piene della gioia che viene dagli affetti della famiglia e della gente che ci e amica. Per it nuovo anno 1998 basterebbe salute, prosperita e tutto it bene del mondo, ye lo auguro di cuore.
