Land of the Free? A 4th of July Reflection from the Heart of Cannabis Culture

The Fourth of July is supposed to mean something Freedom Independence A break from tyranny A celebration of rebellion But somewhere along the way, the fireworks got louder than the truth. The red, white, and blue became a costume for performative patriotism while actual liberty is being suffocated under the boot of right-wing fascism disguised as law and order from the people who should actually be in jail

In 1776, revolutionaries declared their unwillingness to be ruled by the corrupt elite Today, those same ideals are hijacked by political puppets who scream “freedom” while banning books, criminalizing abortion, stripping trans rights, and militarizing borders They wrap themselves in the flag, but they burn the Constitution from the inside out What’s independent about being told who to love, what to do with your body, or whether you can grow a healing plant in your backyard?

Let’s be real, cannabis was never just about getting high It’s always been a symbol of resistance Of community Of medicine for the people For decades, this plant was weaponized by the same government that now pretends to be “for the people” with its shiny new “legal” markets, while thousands of mostly Black and Brown folks still sit behind bars for the same flower that’s now filling corporate pockets

So yeah, we’ll light up on the 4th. Not in celebration of what this country is, but in honor of what it should be We’ll smoke one for those who never stopped fighting for reproductive rights, for trans rights, for the right to heal with cannabis without persecution, for the dream of a country that actually gives a damn about all its people

This isn’t your average flag-waving editorial. This is a call to remember that freedom isn't something handed down, it’s something we build, protect, and fight for every damn day Cannabis is part of that fight So pass the lighter We’ve got work to do

Let the fascists preach order while choking on their hypocrisy. We are the chaos they can’t contain. We don’t want seats at their table, we want to flip the whole damn thing and torch it in the street so we can light our joints off it. ~Dustin Hoxworth

THE FACES OF C

Acelebration of the people who make the cannabis industry special It's our living archive of the real ones; those who grind, grow, create, and advocate for the plant, the community, and the culture that surrounds it.

It’s about the unsung heroes; the budtender who remembers your name, the cultivator covered in resin, the artist sketching strains into the story. It highlights the growers, patients, advocates, artists, and everyday humans who live and breathe cannabis

Dustin Hoxworth

Through striking visuals that tell stories, the idea is to capture the soul of our community, one face at a time to feature a snapshot of authenticity, a movement, a mirror, and a love letter to those shaping the future of this space with passion, grit, and dirt under their nails.

Christine Bradley is a Production Manager at Cannabrands, based in Arizona Her journey in the cannabis industry began as one of the original 420Nurse interns in Southern California From there she dove into the industry becoming an associate at a dispensary, eventually taking lead as a manager However, her true passion was always with the plants This led Christine to transition into the cultivation side, starting with home grows and eventually moving into commercial cultivation After relocating back to Arizona, she worked with a local cannabis farm but soon realized she was not being fully utilized and felt driven to contribute more to the community. This realization led Christine to Cannabrands, where she proudly found her place as the Production Manager, continuing to deepen her expertise in cannabis cultivation

“My journey with cannabis has been transformative I’ve made it part of my daily routine, with Hash Rosin being my true love. While I’ve been exploring concentrates since 2011, it wasn’t until 3-4 years ago that I discovered the incredible benefits of solvent-less options Now, it’s hard to imagine using anything else. Through personal health challenges that once led me to rely on opioids, I’ve learned that nature offers powerful alternatives. The healing potential of this beautiful plant has shown me that we can achieve the same, if not better, results without turning to pharmaceuticals.”
