Work Experience Our courses are vocational in nature and as you would expect with this sort of course, work experience is fully included and embedded. With a strong focus on employability and developing skills for work, these experiences are important to us and our students.

Maths & English

All students complete work experience with Rockley in the summer term and placements are predominantly in France at one of our three centres. There’s not many courses where you get to complete a placement abroad and this has proven to be one of the highlights of a student’s time with us.

If you achieve a Grade 3 or lower in English and Maths you are required to re sit these exams. Alongside your Sixth Form course, you will be taught by Rockley’s own qualified members of staff. 01202 677272

Trips Our courses are structured very differently at Rockley College as we can put what’s right for the learner at the heart of our decisions. As an example, we start the term off with a multi-activity trip to France. This is a great ice-breaker and the perfect opportunity to get to know your fellow students and staff in a more relaxed, outdoor environment. We are able to do this as we’re not restricted by other departments or a school’s agenda of no trips in term time. Likewise, every year we offer our students a ski trip and numerous other days out such as coasteering, water parks or expeditions.

“The Level 3 course is good fun; it is totally different to normal college. I can get bored easily so really wanted a course with a practical element. I’m not sure I could have coped with A-Levels! Yes, there is a lot of coursework but with time management you can get on and do it. I also loved the very first week in France in year 1 where we all got to know each other.”

“My advice would be to take every opportunity you get. Your RYA Windsurf and Dinghy Instructor qualifications are not just handed to you - you do have to work for them. Rockley will put on loads of extra sessions so that you can work on your skills development but they also give you the time and the space to achieve this.”

“Elements of the course really relates to what I plan to do at uni and obviously all the coaching to get my dinghy and windsurfing instructor qualifications helps massively which is amazing!”

“After a school trip with Rockley I knew what I wanted to do when I left school so I joined Rockley College. It was a great course! I worked my way up and became Activity Manager at Rockley’s Poole Park centre.”

“It’s been great making new friends – I literally know everyone. Everyone just gets to know everyone in college - it’s lovely.”

“I love watching young people improve, progress and develop new skills. It’s a very rewarding job!” 01202 677272

Jo Jo graduated from the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity (Outdoors) in 2019 with a triple distinction as well as her RYA Dinghy and Windsurf Instructor qualification. She then applied for the one-year Apprenticeship programme and was one of six successful candidates. ‘I’ve always loved being outdoors and A-Levels never really gave me the option for that - it was too much about sitting

in a classroom and doing your work, so I’ve really enjoyed being able to come here and do all the practical elements alongside all the coursework. I’ve learnt so many life skills that will help me in the future. Having worked with, and taught different age groups, I’ve also learnt to relate to people of all ages. The course has also boosted my confidence massively. Yes, you have to work hard but there is so much support and there are so many opportiunities. My advice for anyone wanting to do the course would be to just go for it!”
