Advent at Father Ryan Throughout the season of Advent, we were able to celebrate the coming of the Lord in several ways across campus. From observing the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception during the first week of Advent with AllSchool Mass to participating in Penance Service and a walking rosary, we are grateful to be able to prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ. During the morning announcements, a faculty or staff member shared a personal
2023 Willie Brown '65 Memorial Basketball Tournament On the opening night of the 2023 Willie Brown ’65 Memorial Basketball Tournament, Father Ryan Boys Basketball players, coaches, President Paul Davis ’81, and Director of Athletics Ann Mullins ’03 welcomed alumni and faculty to campus to talk about Willie Brown’s legacy at Father Ryan. Willie was the first African-American student to integrate sports in Tennessee, the first to sign a grant-in-aid at MTSU, and competed briefly in the NBA before becoming a motorcycle policeman in Connecticut. He passed away in a motorcycle accident in 1975. Inspired by the discussion of Willie’s legacy, the Irish Boys Basketball team went on to finish Runner-Up in the three-day tournament!
reflection on the day's reading with everyone on campus, allowing our students, faculty, and staff to start each day with a moment of peace. To end the Advent season, Father Ryan hosted Room in the Inn on Christmas Eve -- welcoming those who needed shelter for a warm meal and dry night of rest. It is heartwarming to see how our campus came together during the season of Advent to prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ, and we are grateful for these experiences and look forward to continuing to celebrate the joy of our Lord.
