What’s coming up? Once the Timonium Show has been successfully put to bed, FLBD will turn its focus to ROLLING THUNDER. It might seem far off but May, and one of the most important events in the motorcycle community, is right around the corner. If you are a member of a Rolling Thunder group, send your group’s photo (don’t forget to note which group you are and your city/state) for inclusion in the Rolling Thunder Tribute Issue. Everyday Heroes Jimmy Ray “Chainsaw” Epps Wilmington, DE Jimmy Ray “Chainsaw” Epps was an easy choice for Everyday Hero according to ABATE of Delaware’s Ed Berner who refers to Chainsaw as a friend, B.O.L.T. Brother, ABATE State and Chapter Assistant, Editor, and Like-Minded Freedom Fighter.

Chainsaw has been providing a thankless service for ABATE of Delaware by making the public face of State and Chapter Boards look as good as possible since 2000.

When he first arrived in Delaware, after retiring from a 35-year career as a welder, Chainsaw took off on his own teaching himself basic advertising and promotion skills. Although ABATE already had a state website, he voluntarily published a Chapter website of sorts using the old AOL EasyDesigner. He did more with that basic platform than the designated webmistress - and the State Board took notice. Due to some well-timed internal issues, he was given the role of State webmaster. As his skills and resources increased, he became more trusted by the Legislative Task Force to follow protocol and to publicly disseminate information as the State Legislative Coordinator permitted. Chainsaw would chase down other Organization and Club flyers that supported ABATE of Delaware to promote them, hoping for reciprocation by way of new members. Not only has Chainsaw been an asset on the State level but on the Chapter level as well. He was essential in building a rapport, professionally and personally, with the other Chapters and Officers during a time when there was a divisive cloud over the Organization and bringing them back together, closer than they had been in

a long time. Chainsaw has also been involved with the Legislative Task Force through the two Legislative Coordinators prior to Ed Berner until they retired.

He survived the onslaught of the last eight cycles of the Delaware General Assembly’s attack on motorcyclists’ freedom on the front lines, leading and assisting the membership in faxes, letters and emails for and against introduced legislation.

Chainsaw began as a member of ABATE of Florida in 1980 with the Hogtown Chapter in Gainesville, Florida until it folded up shop. As a career welder, he was able to travel and his next involvement was in ABATE of West Virginia, Hampshire County Chapter, in 1990, where he moved into the role of Coalition Representative, similar to the C.O.C., (Confederation of Clubs), hand-drawing flyers for Coalition events. When his three-year shut-down job ended, he was ready to relocate and found work in Georgia where in 1993, he became an active member in ABATE of Georgia, District 6, outside of Macon in a little crossroads of a town named Haddock, Georgia. Again, as a man who saw opportunity with the road, when the job in Georgia folded, he loaded up his old Shovelhead and moved to Central Florida and joined ABATE of Florida, Lake County Chapter, in 1996. Upon coming to Delaware, Chainsaw joined ABATE of Delaware, New Castle County Chapter, and simultaneously was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. He eventually became the Northern Delaware Assistant Ride Captain of the Delaware PGR, member of the Sons of Liberty Riders, Co-Founder of Delaware Freedom Riders, and then nominated and accepted to join B.O.L.T. (Bikers of Lesser Tolerance).

Currently, Chainsaw has limited his involvement to ABATE of Delaware, B.O.L.T., and promotions and advertising endeavors.

Steamed Lobster Tails with Citrus & Ginger Butter Sauce Need a romantic dinner recipe for Valentine’s Day? Lobster tails are not only seductively delicious but just as alluring to the eyes. The citrus and ginger sauce provides a fresh, tantalizing aroma while delivering the savory butter taste that allows the lobster to “melt in your mouth.” You can’t go wrong with this delectable main course.

Prep Time: 15 mins.

Cook Time: 10 mins.

Yield : 4 Lobster Tails & 1 Cup of Sauce Serving Size: Lobster Tail

INSTRUCTIONS 1. OPTIONAL: To prepare your lobster tails as pictured, place lobster tails ventral side up (the underneath of the tail showing). Using sharp kitchen sears, cut along the 5 pairs of appendages to remove the exterior abdomen carefully from the “meat” of the lobster tail. **If you choose not to do this you can place the whole lobster tail in the steamer and skip to the next step.** 2. Sprinkle lobster tails evenly with salt, pepper and ground ginger.

3. Prepare your steamer as necessary. If using an electric steamer like I do, follow the instructions manual. If you do not have a steamer, bring approx. 1.5 inches of water to a boil in the bottom of a large pot. Add a pinch of salt and place a steamer insert inside the pot so it is just at the water line.

4. For the sauce: Heat a small sauce pan with a drop of oil on medium heat. Add ginger, onions and a small pinch of granulated garlic. Reduce to medium heat, cooking until onions are tender (Approximately 4-5 mins.). Add wine and continue to cook for an additional 4 minutes. Add your lobster tails to the steamer. If you cut the centers out put them in the steamer meat side up. Cover and steam for approximately 8 minutes.

Remove from heat.

5. After sauce has cooked with the wine, remove from heat and add the butter and cream. Return to heat until it bubbles then remove, adding orange juice and basil. Add lemon zest. Reduce to a low simmer until lobster tails are done.

Garage Twenty-One Brings Custom Builds To 2017 Timonium Motorcycle Show Modern rides designed and custom built to honor the great machines of the teens, twenties and thirties.

American Recreational Promotions announced the addition of the Garage Twenty-One collection to its lineup of custom bike displays at the 2017 Timonium Motorcycle Show, February 10th thru 12th, Timonium, MD. Garage Twenty-One is located in central Ohio and it is not a bike builder’s garage. Garage Twenty-One is a mini museum housing antique cars, custom motorcycles and wall murals including a 10 ft. x 80 ft. wide pallet created by Matt Indrutz. Owners Andy Marks and Terri Levine take great pride in Garage Twenty-One which they built together and, just like the classics on display, their relationship is rich in history and crafted from awe.

Andy and Terri were high school sweethearts who dated for 4 or 5 years before breaking up and going each their own way. About 9 years ago, they happened upon each other at just the right moment and they’ve been inseparable since. Everything they do, they do together. That includes their love of antique cars and motorcycles.

Garage Twenty-One’s contributions to the show’s custom build exhibits includes: 2015 Custom Build – 1911 Indian Board Track Racer Bike The bikes of the board track era that started in the early 1910's and ran through 1931 were elegant in their simplicity and frightening in their power and lacked anything even resembling safety. In spite of the danger they presented and destruction they wrought, these bikes were designed for the sole and singular purpose of going fast. No brakes. No transmission. No accelerator. After a bit of research, there was only one person with enough experience and insight for this Garage Twenty-One build - Mike Tomas, owner of Kiwi Indian Motorcycles, inductee in the Sturgis Hall of Fame, 3-time World Championship Custom Bike Building winner, allaround nice guy and world's foremost authority on Indian motorcycles. Mike decided to build a tribute to Indian board track racers and selected 1911 as the model year to immortalize.

2009 Harley Davidson Arlen Ness Custom – Arlen Ness Custom, One-Off 1909 Model J Tribute Bike One hundred years after the introduction of the Harley-Davidson V-twin, in 2009, Arlen Ness introduced the Ness Antique. A trib-

ute to his own famed Nesstique, the Antique was a limited run of 51 bikes, each one custom made with no two alike. In 2012 I located #51 - the last bike in the run - being sold by the original owner in Rhode Island. After a few emails and some quick phone calls, the deal was done and Josephine ("JoJo") was on her way to Garage Twenty-One. 2007 Harley Davidson FLNSTI – 1936 Knucklehead Tribute Bike Betty started life as a 2007 H-D Softail Deluxe. Before she ever had a mile on her odometer she was completely disassembled and a 7-month process began by which she was turned into a Knucklehead. The transformation included custom paint, new exhaust, new engine fittings, new beach bars and a new light and nacelle up front with the final pieces being a set of custom-made heads fabricated by Lighthouse Harley-Davidson in upstate New York.

It is Andy’s hope that 100 years from now, someone who owns and displays a Garage Twenty-One bike will look back with the same excitement and admiration that he feels today. CLASS CLOWN Trina Maston’s Class Clown came to life in August of 2015 after an unfortunate wreck. The bike already had the flame job and some clowns. Trina asked her friend to repair the bike. ALLEN ‘BAKE’ BAKER, JR. LOCATION: WINCHESTER, VA 65 YEARS

Allen Baker, Jr. began riding mostly on Hondas as a teen. His first road bike was a Honda 350. Then came the bad news: Due to a back injury, Allen was not able to ride. It wasn’t until July, 2015, that he found the answer to his prayers and he purchased a 2015 Polaris Slingshot SL. Since then, Allen has logged over 50,000 miles.

Allen’s Slingshot is a testament to his patriotism and admiration for those who provide service. All of the Eagles painted on his Slingshot were painted by artist Sue Hopper in Iowa in honor of our service men and women.

Allen enjoys riding with Star Touring and Riding Association as well as the Legion Riders. He also rides to honor our troops, police, fire, EMS, EMT, etc. He has ridden in many parades to honor those who serve past and present including Rolling Thunder, 9/11 rides and Fallen Officer rides. He participated in the 9/11 ride from Pennsylvania to Washington, DC and on to New York. He also participated in the 9/11 ride from Dayton, Ohio to the Florida Keys. He rode the East Coast beaches from New Jersey south to the Florida Keys and on to the Gulf Coast. His longest ride was from his home in Virginia to Key West, Florida and on to South Dakota when he road 915 miles in a day over 16 hours (1,255 miles to Key West and then 1,590 miles to SD).

Allen’s and his wife, Donna Baker, have been married for 47 years. They met while Allen was selling raffle tickets to benefit a baseball team for which he played. Allen is retired after working 34 years for CSX Railroad and also served as a police officer for four years.

When asked what advice he would give new or inexperienced riders, Allen says, “Always be alert. You may like to ride the road but it can be very dangerous. Also, avoid distractions while driving. There is nothing as important as your safety and the safety of others sharing the road!”

ABATE OF DELAWARE Ed Berner, Legislative Coordinator The rumors were true, on December 14th Rep. Lynn (D) filed HB 14, another attempt at a mandatory helmet law in the State of Delaware. ABATE of Delaware has been busy getting out word to our membership and request that all members contact their Representatives and voice their concern over this bill. In addition to getting out the message, we have been planning our testimony so that we are prepared when this comes up in committee. A lot has changed in the last 2 years and there is a lot more information available. We will be asking that our friends from across the country assist us by writing the House Public Safety & Homeland Security Committee members. I can’t stress enough the importance of following our web page (http://www. abateofde.com/) or following us on Facebook for the most up-to-date information regarding any legislation that gets introduced.

I have contacted both Democratic and Republican campaigns and asked, “Would you support a Mandatory Helmet Law?”, and what are your views on motorcyclists’ rights?

I would like to report that I received a positive response from both of them. However, no one from the Democratic party has responded to my questions. Republican John Marino on the other hand responded with in hours. I spoke with him at length and he supports our right to choose what’s best for each of us and he’s also not a proponent of needless regulation.

Although the helmet law is the number one priority there are other legislative matters that everyone needs to be aware of.

Michelle Smith Celebrity & First Lady of Motorcycling Michele Smith is best known in the world of motorcycling from her 10 years as host on Speed Channels “American Thunder” followed by a season on Discovery HD Theater’s “Two Wheel Thunder.” Michele continues to make appearances at rallies, events and charity rides across the country and brings with her a collection of riding accessories such as her beautiful, eyecatching helmets that are adorned with crystals and her lingerie line called Jeweled G’s, gstrings with attached jewelry which can also be worn as a necklace! “I thought the female biker community could use something a little different than the usual items you see at events,” explains Michele, “And the Jeweled G’s are small enough to fit in your motorcycle bags!” FLBD recently sat down with Michele and learned a few interesting facts about this First Lady!

6. Who is your fictional hero? I don’t have one.

7. Who do you consider your real-life hero? My dad.

8. What is the most awesome thing you own? I used to have a BMW Z1 when I lived in Amsterdam that was pretty awesome, but now it’s my dog Lily!!!

1. Where were you born and where do you currently reside? I was born in Harrisburg, PA and I am currently based in South Florida.

2. What do you like/admire most about yourself? I love that I am my own best friend! I will jump on a plane and go anywhere in the world by myself. I know people who won’t even go to dinner on their own!

3. What is the one thing you would change about yourself? The fact that I’m always on turbo charge and don’t relax enough.

4. What would you consider your greatest extravagance? I don’t think I can say I have had one certain extravagance but many and most of them would have to do with travel.

5. Where would you most like to reside if you could? South of France.

9. What is the question you are most often asked (and what is the answer you give)? Who is my favorite bike builder. I never give an answer, better to play it safe and not have anyone mad at me.

10. If you could choose any other occupation, what would that be? I was always in the entertainment business which I loved and through that I ended up in the world of motorcycling. I have had the best of both of those worlds and I really couldn’t think of anything better than that.

11. If you could switch places with one person for a day, who would that person be? Liam Neeson’s girlfriend (but can I have more than one day... Please!!!).

12. How do you unwind? A glass of champagne by the pool.

13. What would you do if you were able to retire? Question #12 and #5 combined!

Suzanne Celebrating all women who ride regardless of age or their ride of choice.

Suzanne resides in Pasadena, MD and rides a 2007 Harley Sportster 883 XL Custom. Because she is 5’3” the bike has been lowered and customized to insure a perfect fit. Suzanne rode mini bikes with childhood neighbors and friends and always rode backseat with her husband. In 2007, she decided to ride her own.

Suzanne has been married for 30 years.

Suzanne also owns horses (the hooved variety) and her motto is “Horses and Harleys.” She enjoys participating in charitable rides and is a member of the Steel Cowgirls riding group. “There’s nothing in life that can compare to the feeling that comes from being in the saddle,” says Suzanne.

Suzanne is 52 years old.
