Solid rivets with value-added features

Solid rivet fasteners are ideally suited for highly-loaded constructions since they join load-bearing components in an optimal way. Despite its high mechanical strength this fastener type allows users to generate significant saving in terms of costs and weight as compared to threaded joints.

In cooperation with its customers, the solid riveting business unit develops the rivet design tailored to the respective application. This comprises not only the suitable material but also the required heat treatment and the joint strength values to be achieved. During development the special focus is on the ideal riveting process and respective corrosion protection which, of course, has to meet even the most demanding customer requirements with regard to the finished component. This means it has to last the entire component life.

Jubilee ® Clips expanding with banding

Jubilee® Clips, inventor of the worm drive hose clip, will be exhibiting its full range of clamping and banding solutions, both new and tried and tested, at Fastener Fair Stuttgart.

Products that Jubilee® has recently added to its range, and will be exhibiting at the Fastener Fair for the first time, are the Jubilee Multiband cut to length ‘snip and clip’ banding system – in marine grade, acid proof 316 stainless steel – and the Jubilee® Flexiband band and buckle system in 304 stainless steel in four different sizes: 9mm (3/8 inch, 13mm (1/2 inch), 16mm (5/8 inch) and 19mm (3/4 inch) band width with matching buckles and tool.

The ranges of high-quality hose clamps that Jubilee is renowned for include the original Jubilee® worm drive hose clip, its ranges of heavy-duty Superclamp barrel hardware clamps in mild steel, 304 and 316 stainless steel, Lloyds Register approved High Torque clips in all 304 stainless steel, Quick Release Straps, ‘P’ Clips, 2 ear ‘O’ Clips, Light Range worm drive hose clips, Jubilee® Junior nut and bolt clips (all available in mild steel, zinc protected and 304 stainless steel) and Wingspade® clips.

in diameter. Fully camera-aided checking of the fastener features agreed, as well as ISO/TS 16949 certification, mean the fasteners meet the highest quality standards.

Additional competence is provided by a thermal diffusion surface treatment facility that allows coating of fasteners to be used in the riveting process. The patented SheraBlack method developed by GESIPA provides long-term corrosion protection for rivets after the setting process and meets the demanding requirements of the commercial vehicle industry including required salt spray tests.

Precision cold forming solutions

GESIPA®’s solid riveting business unit based in Olpe, Germany, develops bespoke solutions for demanding solid rivet applications in the general, commercial vehicle, and automotive industries.

Next generation of smart rolling machines

EVIRT Italia Srl points out that its best seller of 2018 –the PLANAR 20 Synchro CNC thread rolling machine –will be previewed during Fastener Fair Stuttgart with further restyled features.

This new generation of EVIRT ITALIA smart rolling machines is mainly characterised by a brand new machine frame designed using CAD 3D systems and stresses simulators software (FEM) to ensure the absolute absence of vibrations in any operating condition. The highest level of stiffness is furthermore essential for every cold and hot rolling process, where the tolerances are more and more strict.

This seven axis CNC two dies machine has been designed to allow a high degree of automation and thus to facilitates the machine set-up through the available features, such as:

Automatic work-rest support blocking system.

Automatic dies match search without any operator intervention. Brushless motors on the two main spindles for a high accuracy motion and backlash absence.

High precise positioning of the two hydraulic slides due to a linear optical transducer and a feedback – all controlled by CNC through high frequency closed loop.

Automatic blocking system of head’s inclination. Magnetic blocking system of spindles’ inclination. Automatic head tilting – 0.001 degree backlash. New mechanical solutions for the head tapering system.

Dimac Srl states that once again its stand will be an essential visit for all visitors to Fastener Fair Stuttgart engaged in the pursuit of zero-defects.

Following the successes of 2018 and its investments in new technologies, the Italian company remains future focused, presenting exciting novelties whilst widening its ‘total quality’ horizons. At the show Dimac will focus on two special high-end models.

Restyled MCV5

Dimac is planning a massive product onslaught in the next few years, starting with the launch of the MCV5 new generation series. Complying with the latest IoT, automation, and safety standards, this model combines the top of electronics and mechanics with the best in class vision system.

“The new model of MCV5 features the latest eco-efficiency technology in all its electrical equipment. We renovated its design, further improving lights, amplifiers and controller. Even sound absorption has been implemented,” comments Andrea Cuttica, project manager at Dimac Srl. “The upgrade concerns the sensors too. We integrated the vision system with a new laser unit and high-res 5 Mpix ⅔ inch cameras with collimated telecentric lenses and illuminators. All that is integrated with the new MCVx vision software, providing improved quality control performance, both on standard and complex geometries.”

The latest release of MCV5 also includes new functions and tools for the dimensional inspection, as well as for surface analysis.

Plug & Play SPC-LAB 2019

The new SPC-LAB is the mobile unit that Dimac has conceived to support the fastener and fixing manufacturing process with a minimisation of the scatter in results, and an overall reduction in the cost and time, of testing.

True to the tenets of Lean production, SPC-LAB streamlines accurate data collection and Statistical Process Control, putting production shops on a virtuous cycle of better measurement, analysis, improvement and control.

Visitors to Fastener Fair Stuttgart will have the chance to experience the unique features of this new release, including: A working range for fasteners and special parts in diameters 2mm - 30mm and in 10mm - 7mm length; the possibility of 3D 360° inspection and optical auto-calibration pattern to improve the accuracy with nearly zero distortion. Plus, special tempered V-glasses with anti-scratch to support the part while measured; improved repeatability up to 5μm; USB ports for digital gauges and high-precision digital calipers; as well as barcode reading for immediate operator log-in and inspection plan activation.

Dimac points out that expectations are high for customers who already use the previous generation model, such as Italian fastener supplier T&T Srl. “We are interested in seeing how Dimac experts have renewed the SPC-LAB series. The original model currently running on our production lines is already a high performance device,” comments Mr Stefano Ronzoni, owner of T&T Srl.

Another important novelty concerns Dimac servicing. While connectivity is a cornerstone for the whole range of machines – for example remote connectivity is used by Dimac to provide upgrades, programming and set-up support, training conferences, etc. – Dimac has introduced Augmented Reality to further enhance the aftersales assistance.

Successfully presented in Paris at the recent Fastener Fair France show, Dimac Remote Assistance (DRA) –powered by Acty© – for use in mobile device Apps, has been specifically conceived to troubleshoot the Dimac machines remotely.

Prior to any intervention at a customer’s site, Dimac can activate a live camera chat within an augmented reality environment and support the operators to identify the origin of any problem and troubleshoot. That means cost-effectiveness – streamlining and abating any down time – whilst facilitating and speeding up the machine cycle restart.

Industrial Recense’s virtual reality

Industrial Recense is in the process of changing to an Industry 4.0 factory, so at the show, visitors will be able to try a VR experience, with a virtual reality software and glasses – making it possible for visitors to visit its manufacturing plant and see how production is organised.

The company will also exhibit all the U-bolts and wire parts of its product range in different sizes, diameters, materials, as well as different surface finishes, such as zinc plated, hot dip galvanised, zinc nickel, and GEOMET ®

A second important product line for Industrial Recense is its stamping parts, with the company recently improving its stamping tooling department so that it can offer a full tooling and stamping service.

Finally, the company will also exhibit some wire bended parts, from its new 3D bending machine.

Light and strong – the right solution

FAR Srl produces a diverse range of fastening technology through its strong workforce all over the world. In addition, its in-house research and development projects help contribute to the expansion of its product line, such as the recently developed FHU5000 – a pneumatic hydraulic tool designed specifically for the efficient setting of high powered structural rivets and pin and collar lockbolts.

FAR points out that the tool-head of the new FHU5000 fits a wide range of nose equipment (separately supplied) in different lengths, which means the tool can be adapted for setting all structural rivets and the most used lockbolts, such as Magna-Lok®, Monobolt®, Avdelok®, Magna-Grip® and Hucktainer®.

Hoenderdaal focuses on new exports

Hoenderdaal Fasteners, based in the Netherlands, will present screw brands Dynaplus® and Rotadrill® at Fastener Fair Stuttgart, and will be focusing on new export customers for these premium brands in quality wood screws.

To highlight the ease of use of its wood screws, Hoenderdaal will also bring its test equipment and a variety of wood pieces to the show. “We believe that the best way to convince somebody about the quality of our product, is for them to see it and test it themselves. That is why we are inviting visitors to bring the current screw they sell and make the comparisons themselves. We want the visitors to experience the difference in ease of use with Dynaplus® or Rotadrill® screws,” comments Hoenderdaal Fasteners.

The Dynaplus universal wood screw has been developed for the professional user to process quick, easy and safe in different building materials. Dynaplus is now the 3rd biggest premium brand in the wood screw segment in Holland, and Hoenderdaal is looking for expansion abroad – especially in the Nordic countries due to it’s products high-quality C4 coating.

Rotadrill is the famous screw with the red tip – a special lubricant leads to a remarkable low screw in resistance, which makes screwing very easy. With its red tip, Hoenderdaal says its Rotadrill screw is the most recognisable screw in the world –and it’s patented.

Second generation semi-automatic packaging machine at Stuttgart

SKAKO Vibration is excited to reveal the new generation of SKAKO semi-automatic packaging machine, with two combined displays and a higher display resolution, at the upcoming Fastener Fair Stuttgart.

Asemi-automatic packaging machine is a flexible system that can fill different sized carton boxes and plastic returnable boxes. It is easy to operate and reprogram, which makes it especially suitable for industries that operate with many different items and short and medium size batches. The compact, single floor, design, allows it to be placed in a limited floor space area with no need for extra ceiling height. An open construction also makes the machine easy to clean and the process both accessible and easily monitored – with low risk of mixing products when switching from one to another.

Since the launch in 2016, SKAKO’s packaging system has been well received by the market. Further developments also include a weight range increase to 5kg – 38kg. The two scales, operational and control weighing scales, also both communicate through one common Siemens PLC program, which secures the same tare weight (box weight) on both scales. This eliminates any discrepancies there may be between the two scales.

Lightweight blind rivet technology

GESIPA reports that its new lightweight blind rivet nut is the next stage of development in blind rivet nut technology – meeting all industry requirements such as weight reduction and the careful and responsible handling of resources, which are key focuses in the automotive sector.

In addition to the advantages of up to 50% less weight; reduced space needed for the closing head; as well as a larger grip range than standard nuts; GESIPA points out that these blind rivet nuts provide the same or even better stability of the joints than usual blind rivet nuts.

The lightweight nuts are used for all applications where weight reduction is of utmost importance, such as for car bodies (lightweight materials), add-on components (plastic material) and structural components (aluminium).

All in all, due to their compact design and low space requirement, the new lightweight blind rivet nuts provide high quality solutions in complex applications.
