Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator
From 51 to 30 BC, Cleopatra VII Philopator served as the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt's last active monarch. She was a direct descendant of the kingdom's first ruler, Ptolemy I Soter, a Macedonian Greek general and friend of Alexander the Great. She darkened her eyebrows and lengthened her eyelashes with black kohl, a mixture of powdered lead sulphide and animal fat. She used a deep blue eye shadow with goldcolored pyrite flecks on her upper eyelids.
