But again, this year, we are celebrating this day with tears in the eyes — because the part of the Eastern and Southern Ukraine is still under occupation.

REAL DIPLOMACY “Real Stories of a Career Diplomat” — thus named his book of memories and reflections Volodymyr Khandohiy.

THE AGRICULTURAL EXPANSION OF UKRAINE — In January-November 2017, in the EU, 2.3 tons of butter were imported, with annual deliveries increasing by almost a total of 2016.

— Similar tendencies are observed and at the global level. According to our colleagues from the USA, in JanuaryOctober 2017 Ukraine became the eighth largest oil exporter in the world, with a total volume of 20.8 thousand tons and an annual growth of three times, — Mykolska said.

Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Economic Development Natalia Mykolska informed Ukrainian media that our country got the second place after New Zealand in terms of deliveries of butter to the EU.

It should be noted that according to the results of 2017, Ukraine has traditionally ranked first in the supply of grain to the EU. In the period from January 1 to January 5, Ukraine fully closed quotas for the export of wheat and maize to the countries of the European Union in 2018.

THE SAD TRUTH ABOUT THE CRIMEA The Crimea SOS public organization has published a book named as The Encyclopedia of Repressions in the Crimea from the moment of annexation by Russia, in which the information of human rights organizations about the violation of human rights in the annexed peninsula has been systematized for the first time. According to co-founder of the organization Tamila Tasheva, the book will be transferred to libraries and government institutions.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

AT THE DAWN OF UKRAINIAN– JAPANESE RELATIONSHIP (1890–1900s) 2017 is the year of Japan in Ukraine. The Tokyo government became one of the first to recognize the independence of Ukraine in 1991. But the history of Ukrainian–Japanese communications has a much older history, reaching its roots back in the nineteenth century.

By the 1850s, Japan was in a state of complete self-isolation. Any contacts with the outside world were banned and severely punished. But after

its “discovery” by the Western countries (1853) and internal changes (the transition of factual power into the hands of the emperor, in 1868), the question of the need for an active study of the world, the establishment of equal political and economic relations with foreign states arose in Japan. To achieve this goal, the Tokyo government used various instruments, including diplomatic and consular institutions. The active

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND period of creating the first ones took place in the 1870s. By the 1890s, Japan had only about 20 consulates in foreign countries, including three of them to operate in the territory of the Russian Empire. One of them was in the city of Odessa. Its creation and its activity can be regarded as the first step towards the establishment of socioeconomic and cultural relationship between Japan and Ukrainian society (at that time — with the south of the Russian Empire).

The first evidence of these contacts dates back to 1885, when a Japanese mission arrived in Odessa to study the economic potential of the city. In 1889, the Foreign Minister of Japan approved an order to establish an Imperial Consulate in Odessa. But the first representative of Japanese interests in the region was not ethnic Japanese. It was the local businessman, O. V. Raksheyev, who, being in the status of honourary consul, defended the interests of the Far Eastern country during 1892–1897. His main achievement was the discovery of an exposition of samples of Japanese products at the consular institution.

In 1899, these things were transferred to the local Museum of Fine Arts, which demonstrated to the Ukrainian society the rapid pace of the Japanese economy development and the prospects of bilateral relationship.

Kametaro Iijima, ethnic Japanese and a career diplomat, became the next imperial consul in Odessa. His activity came in 1900–1904, 1906– the period of the escalation of Russian-Japanese relationship on the eve and after the war of 1904–1905. It is believed among the scholars that the official was actively engaged in intelligence

activities. The Consul has consistently reported to Tokyo on the social and economic life of the Ukrainian South, on merchant and military ships in the Odesa port, and so on. Japan was worried that Russia would use the Black Sea Fleet for combat operations, and therefore constantly monitored this issue. The official tried to avoid conflicts in relationship with the local administration. As a result, at the departure of Kametaro Iijita and other consular officers from Odessa in connection with the onset of war (1904), the reaction of local residents was not accompanied by aggression, but was limited to general interest.

Such attitude was a guarantee that after the end of the war, the Japanese Consulate in Odesa quickly resumed its activity in April 1906.

One of the topical problems for Japan at the end of the XIX and early XX centuries was the absence of a sufficient number of qualified diplomats and consuls, so their activity was often accompanied by the transfer to new places of service. In the summer of 1906, K. Iijima informed the local administration about returning to Japan on vacation, but the official did not return to Odessa, having received a new appointment.

Consulate was headed by his secretary — Naohiko Fukuda.

The activity of the new official had certain peculiarities, the Russian gendarmes set up secret surveillance over him to confirm that the Japanese was actively involved in espionage.

But the counterintelligence failed to prove their suspicions.

During 1900s, Japan substantially expanded the number of its consular offices, verifying the feasibility of their activities. But the problem of insufficient number of qualified personnel did not allow ensuring the full operation of all institutions. As a result, in 1909, the Consulate in Odessa temporarily suspended its functioning.

N. Fukuda was transferred to a newly established institution in Moscow. Nevertheless, Odessa did not turn out to be outside the zone of Japanese interests. The new stage of the Consulate’s activity began after 1925, and the previous experience of interaction between the local Ukrainian population and the representatives of Japan’s interests created a favourable climate for this, although new political realities left traces.

The UAE is one of the most developed and richest countries in the world that has recently abolished the visa regime with Ukraine. What do we know about the cooperation between our countries? What can we offer to the UAE and what the Emirates can offer to us? His Excellency Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates Salem Ahmed Al-Kaabi exclusively for FD. Please tell us about the history of bilateral relations between the UAE and Ukraine.

The diplomatic relations between the UAE and Ukraine were established on October 15, 1992. In 2017 our countries marked their 25th anniversary.

Without any doubt, a decisive contribution to the development of bilateral relations has been made by the Leadership of our countries. We are proud that the UAE had the honour to host almost all Presidents of Ukraine.

Recent visit of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to the UAE reaďŹƒrmed a strong partnership between our countries. There is an active political dialogue at all levels. So far, 24 bilateral agreements and memoranda have already been concluded.

Two states cooperate closely in international organizations supporting each other in the elections to international bodies and institutions.

What directions would you determine as a priority in relations between our two countries?

I would say without exaggeration that we consider the entire spectrum of bilateral relations as important and priority. We are not inclined to allocate something separately, since all: the economy, culture, humanitarian cooperation, ect. have the same high value for us and we strive to develop them all. #8, January–February 2018

Year 2017 in the UAE was declared the Year of Giving. What charitable events were held by the Embassy of the UAE in Ukraine?

The United Arab Emirates pays great attention to the development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation between our countries. The focus of the UAE foreign policy has always been on the issue of assistance to those in need. In 2017 this issue was given even more importance since the President of the UAE Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan proclaimed it as a “Year of Giving”. During the year we hosted about 12 humanitarian events, during which four specialized boarding schools for children with disabilities were provided with the necessary equipment for training and with about 800 school backpacks (with all equipment).

The 2018 in the UAE is declared as the year of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan alNahayan. How do you plan to celebrate this year in Ukraine?

Yes, indeed, 2018 marks 100 years since the birth of the father-founder of our country, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahayan. The Year of Zayed will highlight his role in establishing the Federation, and his local, regional and international achievements. The Year of Zayed reflected the unique standing that the late leader held in the hearts of every Emirati.

I would not like to run ahead, only to say that we plan to hold a lot of events dedicated to Sheikh Zayed.

What were your first impressions of our country?

I was pleasantly impressed by the scale and dynamics of Ukraine’s domestic and foreign policy and economic development. Despite all internal and external challenges, Ukraine confidently overcomes all difficulties and develops its economy implementing significant reforms.

My first impression was that Ukraine is an

extremely beautiful, interesting and promising country with rich natural resources and talented people who have a great future. Of course, every day I discover something new about Ukraine. It is my honour to work as an Ambassador of the UAE in Ukraine.

How much do you travel around Ukraine?

As Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, I arrived in Kyiv on February 1, 2017.

As you probably know, the Ambassador’s start in the country involves a number of protocol procedures and ceremonies that require time, and I had many meetings here in Kyiv, therefore, unfortunately, still did not have enough time to travel to other regions of Ukraine. I am sure that in the coming 2018 I will fill this gap and get acquainted more deeply with the regions of Ukraine.

What do you like most in our country?

There is no simple answer to this question.

Your country has a great history, rich cultural heritage, delicious cuisine, and so on. Ukraine is extremely interesting in all its respects.

In December 2017 agreements were reached between Ukraine and the UAE on a visa-free regime. What do you think will be the main consequences of this step?

We consider this step as opening of a new chapter in relations between our countries. The importance of abolishing the visa regime, and, as a consequence, the development of peopleto-people contacts, cannot be overemphasized.

We are convinced that visa-free travel between the UAE and Ukraine will have positive effects in virtually all spheres of life, from tourism development to intensification of business contacts, cultural, scientific exchanges, etc.

This is a crucial step that we have been able to accomplish thanks to the wise leadership of our states and whose positive results our countries will feel for a long time. #8, January–February 2018

BUSINESS IN UKRAINE The English word “startup” has been becoming more and more understandable in our country.

It means a daring and desperate attempt to create your own business. This word has gained popularityɄ— because many young and enterprising Ukrainians start their own business, in fact from scratch, making significant progress and occupying a certain niche at the Ukrainian market.

About how difficult it is to start a business, whether all young people are dreaming of leaving Ukraine and about whether it is possible to succeed in modern Ukraine, FD talks to the leaders and founders of the studio of video production “Mango Production” by Roman Vashkevych and Andriy Antypenko.

Please, tell, how your business was set up and what actually inspired you to create it?

Roman Vashkevych: I worked for a long time at one of the leading Ukrainian marketing companies, so I had studied the market of advertising services well enough and I got the knowledge in which way to create correctly my own business and how to bring it at the proper level. My second kind of activity, which was initially more perceived as a hobby that brought me good income, was the creation of a promotional video, which I did long before. I started working at the sphere of marketing. Thus the hobby has transformed into the main occupation and the desire for creation completely absorbed me, so I decided to launch my own project.

Having planned my own business, I had already known all the possible obstacles for doing business in Ukraine and abroad. Therefore, simply speaking, I decided to try my own powers at the sphere at which I had enough knowledge.

Andriy Antypenko: I am an actor. I have a considerable experience of filming. In particular, for such well-known brands as Bonjour, Calvin Klein, Voronin, Bosch, Snickers, Lenovo, YSL, etc. This is an interesting and very useful experience. You know, many actors in the theatre and cinema are directing because they understand it perfectly well! In addition, not every director can interpret as it should be, what exactly he wants from the actor and what the actor has to do on the set or stage. When we created our studio, we already knew not only the market of advertising services of Ukraine. We also knew how to make an advertisement, so to say from the inside.

Roman Vashkevych: We have been united by the common goal — to help develop to the modern business in Ukraine and to bring it at higher level and this had inspired us to create our own project.

What has your studio dealt with? Who are your main customers?

Roman Vashkevych: The main thing we do is the production of the creative video — I mean promotional videos for television and internet resources. We also make image clips and movies that tell about a particular company, service, or product that needs recognition among its target audience. This is a relatively new kind of business in Ukraine. I cannot say that this niche is not occupied by anybody except us, but we have already gained a reputation of reliable partners. And this is more than enough.

Andriy Antypenko: If to talk about the customers, according to the agreements we had signed, we cannot disclose the names of the companies we work with. However, our portfolio has already contained the collaboration with the leading companies of Ukraine and the CIS. Most often, we collaborate with the developers, with the representatives of brand clothing, with the distributors of the cars, with the software developers, with the representatives of products for everyday usage, with the financial institutions, etc.

How do the video production services affect business development in Ukraine and abroad?

Roman Vashkevych: Video has become a trend and the most effective marketing resource among the promotion of any business — in Ukraine and abroad.

Text, or banner ads... let’s admit it’s boring! And in 2018, it does not provoke curiosity any more with sophisticated customers, so it has been becoming less and less effective. #8, January–February 2018

BUSINESS IN UKRAINE In its turn, the correctly created video may remain in the memory of the viewer for a long period of time. It can be broadcasted by television, if the video appeals to the viewer on the Internet, people will share it, and our customers will consequently receive the new buyers that can increase sales and brand awareness for a time. We are pleased that modern businessmen understand this and invest in video advertising.

Andriy Antypenko: Before we started to write and to advertise video script, we had analyzed in detail the market and the target audience of our client, and then we create a script that, at the subconscious level, will provoke the interest to the target audience to the product or to the service that we advertise. That’s why our promotional video brings such an effect and helps business development!

Was it difficult to promote your project? What was the main difficulty?

Roman Vashkevych: To be honest, there were no particular difficulties in fact.

I have already mentioned this in the beginning. We were doing what we could and knew how to perform.

We had already had certain acquaintances and a certain level of communications in the advertising business. This is important in order to have a good start. The rest depends on skills and professionalism, as well as on the ability to be responsible for one’s own words and actions.

Andriy Antypenko: We were not freshmen at the market of advertising services.

We knew what we are wanted from and we knew what, in

turn, we want from our partners. If we talk about the complexity, then it was of purely technical feature. Imagine, if a person appeared in the advertisement of a particular product and if the contract specifies during which time period this advertisement will be shown on television or on the Internet, during this particular time, people can no longer be engaged in the advertising of similar products. However, such complexities are not critical, although actors that are good at advertising are not so common — at least, now.

Did you start your own project from scratch? I mean the financial component.

Roman Vashkevych: Of course, there was no starting capital in the strict sense of the word. However, we had something different.

We had people who knew us professionally and knew how we were able to work. I understand that this will sound somewhat outrageous, but sometimes such a start-up capital weighs more than financial one.

Andriy Antypenko: There is no doubt that Western standards are far from us, but even in our advertising business, confidence is beginning to play a role. We are proud of the fact that our

customers trust us and work with us constantly.

If we talk about “Startup”, then it foresees the search for an investor. We succeeded in this search.

What advice would you give for those people that complain on impossibility to start their own business in Ukraine?

Roman Vashkevych: Many young people leave Ukraine in search of money and selfrealization. They say, here and money does not exist and for implementation of any activity there is no space. Although, the money that can be earned abroad — in terms of hryvnia — can be earned in Kyiv either. In the province, the situation is more complicated, but there is also its own “window of opportunity”. Small but there is. I am from Rivne region, so — believe me — I know what I’m talking about.

Andriy Antypenko: In addition, I would like to say the following. Young people often fear of doing their own business because they are listening — sorry for the pathos — not to their own hearts, but to the advice of other people. Of course, these people may only want to do good, but it’s worth of understanding what your life and your destiny are and only you can cope with it. #8, January–February 2018

PAVLO SKOROPADSKY — HETMAN OF THE UKRAINIAN STATE 2017 witnessed the 100th anniversary since that moment when the stubborn and almost desperate struggle for the independent statehood broke out in Ukraine.

2018 will witness the 100th anniversary of one of the most controversial, tragic and crucially important periods of this struggle at the same time.

We mean the right-conservative coup d”etat in Ukraine initiated and headed by ex-general of the imperial Russian Army, landlord-tycoon and descendant of the old noble family Pavlo Skoropadsky.

This event is regarded to be as one of the most controversial ones in the Ukrainian history and keeps provoking the fierce discussions not only among politologists and historians.

We are not going to overload our readers with historical facts. We just want to try to analyze the causes and the after-effects of the 100-year-old event as well as the actuality of this coup d”etat in the modern Ukraine.

Kyiv, Catherininska street, August 27, 1918

General-Lieutenant of the imperial Russian Army proposed his knowledge and military experience for the newly formed Ukrainian state when the last Russian Emperor Nikolay the Second had abdicated and Russian Empire had broken down.

He was a commander of the one of the most powerful army corps of the Russian Armed Forces that started to fall apart in 1917. Nevertheless, in his corps the strict discipline and the high combat capability were preserved. His corps took active part in the disarmament of the proCommunist military units that were inclined to seize Kyiv already in October or November 1917.

Tsentralna Rada (Central Council — the Parliament) the only one legitimated state body of Ukraine then thanked to general in a rather odd way. From one side he was appointed as the commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Central Ukraine but from other side he faced the intrigues and artificial obstacles when he began to set up professional and combat capable Ukrainian Army.

Tsentralna Rada consisted mainly of the representatives of the socialist and populist political parties and owing to this their

attitude to the former imperial general, who was a commander of the horse guard regiment subunit of the last Russian Emperor and knew the Emperor personally (the Emperor was for the Tsentralna Rada politicians the enemy and the oppressor of the Ukrainians). could not be friendly anyway.

UKRAINIAN POLICY MAKERS The attempt of the general Skoropadsky to set up his own military formation that could protect Ukraine without any interference of Tsentralna Rada politicians was a successful one.

He proposed to create the so-called “Independent Cossakhood”, the mighty militia that could carry out the functions of the army and of the police.

Constituent congress of the “Independent Cossakhood” took place on 6th of October 2017 in the town of Chyhyryn and Pavlo Skoropadsky was elected as the Main Commander of the “Independent Cossakhood” at it. This election finally destroyed any possibility of his collaboration with Tsentralna Rada but at the same time his new position made him very popular and very respectful amidst the supporters of the Cossakhood renaissance in Ukraine.

Actually the election of Skoropadsky as the Cossacks chieftain was caused by the fact that has ancestor hetman Ivan Skoropadsky ruled Ukraine in the 18th century just after the exile of Ivan Mazepa another legendary ruler of Ukraine.

Since the election and up to seizure of the power in the April of the 1918, Skoropadsky was a witness of the tragic episodes for Ukraine — he could see the defeat of the Ukraine Peoples Republic (UPR) headed by Tsentralna Rada, the signing of the of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk with Germany, the entering of the German Army into Kyiv and total incapability of the Tsentralna Rada to set up just any similarity to the complete state apparatus.

Tsentralna Rada, not wanting to create the own armed forces, had to ask Germany for help.

The German Army liberated Ukraine from the Bolsheviks, demanding, in the form of a fee for dismissal, the supply of Ukrainian food to Germany. The Central Rada was unable to ensure the collection and supply of food, and therefore the German military in Ukraine and the Kaiser Wilhelm II in Berlin began to feel the need for other allies in Ukraine.

Such allies could be found among the representatives of the great Ukrainian bourgeoisie and large Ukrainian landowners and Skoropadsky was one of them. These people had a number of their own political parties that were not part of the Tsentralna Rada and their group had the

ideologist — Vyacheslav Lipinsky, a historian, philosopher and prominent academic opponent of Mykhailo Hrushevsky. In the beginning of April 1918, they began negotiations with the German command in Ukraine and created a kind of alternative to the Tsentralna Rada — the so-called “Ukrainian People’s Community”.

Skoropadsky was appointed as the political frontman of this movement — so to say. On April 28th 1918, the Central Rada was dissolved with the help of German armed units. This dissolution was preceded by the so-called “congress of farmers”, in fact — by large landowners, due to who Pavlo Skoropadsky was elected as the Hetman of All Ukraine. The Republican form of government was abolished, all power concentrated in the hands of Hetman, Ukraine became a monarchy and changed its official name. The Ukrainian People’s Republic was replaced by the Ukrainian State. #8, January–February 2018

UKRAINIAN POLICY MAKERS It had been lasting for nine incomplete months only, but during this time Hetman Skoropadsky, based on the Russian Empire state officials and managers of Ukrainian origin, formed a full-fledged state apparatus. Also, the following significant steps were taken in the revival of Ukrainian culture and education: •

the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences was created;

•

National Art Gallery was open;

•

two universities were opened — Katerynoslav (modern Dnipro) and Kamyanets-Podilsky;

•

in in

University of St. Volodymyr in Kyiv was obliged to instruct the students in Ukrainian language.

In addition to universities, the government of Skoropadsky actively opened Ukrainian colleges and at these colleges the compulsory academic

disciplines were Ukrainian language, Ukrainian history, geography of Ukraine, and Ukrainian folklore.

The diplomatic service of the Ukrainian State was also much more effective than the diplomatic service of the UPR. The Ukrainian state of Skoropadsky had been recognized by more than 30 countries in the world. At the diplomatic service people with the ties in the royal courts of Europe, that seriously facilitated and simplified the process of international recognition of the Hetman state, were involved.

In spite of some opposition from the German military command, the Ukrainian armed forces were actively developing. There were created 8 infantry corpses consisting of 54 infantry and cavalry regiments, 48 artillery and 38 heavy artillery regiments as well.

The cause for the death of the Ukrainian State was an unfavourable change in the geopolitical

situation — the fall of 1918 began the collapse of Austria-Hungary, and in November of that year the revolution in Germany broke out.

The German troops left the territory of Ukraine and the Hetmanate authorities faced the problem to find the new allies. Taking into consideration that the diplomatic corps of the Ukrainian state, where every second to third diplomat had either a Baronian title or studied in the United Kingdom, had good education and a high level of professionalism, there would not be a huge deal to establish normal relations with the Entente states that defeated Germany. However, Entente, especially France, had one condition: Ukraine would have to establish normal ties with anti-Bolshevik Russia.

The Hetman government agreed to this by issuing an appropriate document that by then opposition — the socialist parties from the dispersed Central Rada — was regarded as a document of a federation with the anti-Bolshevik Russia. Thus, this document became the reason for the anti-Hetman uprising and the capture of power by representatives of the left Ukrainian parties.

Hetman’s government and the system of state administration that were in a state of formation failed to suppress this uprising, moreover, many representatives of the Hetman administration turned to the side of the rebels. As we see, the tradition to hate the ruling power is quite old in our country.

Unfortunately, the Ukrainian “leftists“ that came to power after Skoropadsky proved to be unable to hold this power. They got a war on three fronts — against the Entente, against White Russia, against Red Russia and finally they lost this war. The Ukrainian state-building was postponed until 1991.

— Despite numerous mistakes and miscalculations, the time of the Ukrainian State was the period of the greatest detection of Ukrainian creativity in the sphere of political, economic, cultural and educational construction* Thus, a prominent Ukrainian historian Dmitry Doroshenko, who headed the Foreign Policy Department of the Ukrainian State from June to October 1918, wrote in his memoirs being in exile.

However, despite the bitter experience of numerous defeats in 1917–1921, despite the difficult formation of Ukrainian statehood, in the 1990s and 2000s, nowadays we can say that Ukraine has occupied its independent place under the sun. The successes of our state at the international arena and further progress on the path of European integration have shown that the abortive experience of our predecessors, including the founders of the Ukrainian state — 1918, has been taken into account.

WHO ARE YOU MR. MINGARELLI?

— I BELIEVE THAT UKRAINE HAS AN EXCEPTIONAL POTENTIAL. YOU HAVE THE BEST AGRICULTURAL LAND IN EUROPE, YOU HAVE AN UNBELIEVABLE TOURIST POTENTIAL, YOU HAVE A SEA, YOU HAVE MOUNTAINS AND YOU HAVE AN INCREDIBLE CIVIL SOCIETY. In 2017 a significant breakthrough in the European integration path took place, thus Ukraine received visa-free regime with the EU countries. What awaits Ukraine in 2018? Are we doing enough to become a part of the EU? Exclusively for “Fashion of Diplomacy”, Ambassador, Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli informs about all these things.

Last year, Ukraine got a visa-free regime with EU countries. What do you expect from Ukrainian-European cooperation this year?

— The most important thing that Ukraine and the EU can do together in the next few months is to ensure the implementation of the Association Agreement. Ukraine must accept all EU standards. If you succeed, the Ukrainian economy will become part of the EU common market, which means that your economy will be part of the largest trading bloc in the world. And at the moment, your country has a fantastic activity to make progress in all areas of the economy. In order to sign this agreement, we all are mobilized; everyone at our mission is working on this issue. This is our priority. In Ukraine, there are currently crucial issues to be resolved, I mean jobs creating, improving the living standards of the population, but all this is remedial. Everything has its own term to be completed.

If to talk about this agreement, what has already been implemented by the Ukrainian part?

— You have already been able to make significant progress in harmonizing of legislation in certain areas, such as state control over entrepreneurship, such as public procurement, sanitary and phytosanitary measures. In certain areas, you have made some progress in aligning your legislation with European standards. In other areas, such as infrastructure and transportation, taxes and customs, the situation is much more complicated. Therefore, from our part, we will do our best to support the reformist forces — those ones that have decided to use the EU standards in your country.

WHO ARE YOU MR. MINGARELLI?

You have mentioned that everyone in your mission is working for the result. Can you say the same about the Ukrainian part?

— Until now, not everyone is convinced of the importance of this Agreement. Of course, some of your ministries are quite mobilized and work on the outcome, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Health to name. In the Verkhovna Rada, at the Committee on European Integration, we work very well with the chairman of the committee, but in other committees the situation is somewhat more complicated.

One of the German government top officials said that he does not see Ukraine in the EU. Can you comment these words?

— I can just answer with the facts. First and foremost, Ukraine is a European country. It is one of the largest European countries in size, and it is located in the heart of the European continent.

This is a fact. Talking about relations with the EU, Ukraine is one of the most important partner countries for us. Ukraine has one of the most upto-date agreements with the EU and Ukraine is one of the most important beneficiaries of the

EU. And besides that, I can say that in the EU treaty there is Article 43 and this article states that any European country that fulfills a number of conditions related to the basic principles of personal freedom, to the governing of law, to the civil liberties, may file application for the EU membership. That’s my answer.

You have already solved the problem of refugees. How did you manage to do that?

— Well, first, the problem has not yet been completely resolved, and it is still a serious challenge for several states in the EU. The second point is that this problem can only be solved by having agreed it with Turkey. Turkey has decided to provide asylum to refugees from Syria because of a number of the EU preferences. Thanks to this agreement with Turkey, we stopped the flow from Syria through the Balkans. However, there is the so-called Central Mediterranean route, through which refugees are mostly coming from Libya to the Italian island of Lampeduza. Last year, we also managed to reduce this flow thanks to a series of diplomatic measures. Finally, there is the third refugee route, which is the most difficult to control — this is the route between Morocco and Spain. This is a serious problem that will not disappear tomorrow.

WHO ARE YOU MR. MINGARELLI? What are the main challenges for the EU except this problem?

— First of all, we must tackle the problem of terrorism, and this problem has already affected many EU countries. The second problem is the economic crisis that has not yet been overcome, for example, in such country like Greece. The third problem is Brexit that as you know, is under negotiations. And the fourth problem is the presence of populist political forces that are becoming more aggressive in some parts of the EU and casting doubt on the basic values of the EU.

Also, there is a problem of separatism, as in Catalonia. But Catalonia was denied admission to the EU. Do you think this is the best way to stop separatism?

— First of all, Catalonia was not denied.

Catalonia has been explained that it cannot automatically join the EU. Catalonia must first apply for membership. Catalonia must meet certain conditions. And the consensus on its accession must be among all the EU members and only in this case we would have accepted Catalonia. But at least one member country will never agree.

What were your first impressions about Ukraine?

— For the first time in my life I came to Ukraine in 1992. It was years ago, so I can say what impressions about Ukraine I have now.

I believe that this is a country w i t h exceptional potential.

You have t h e

best agricultural land in Europe, you have an unbelievable tourist potential, you have a sea, you have mountains, and you have an incredible civil society.

Do you travel a lot around Ukraine?

— I am trying to travel to all regions of Ukraine for a better understanding of social and economic realities in order to share information about the importance of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU.

What is your favourite city in Ukraine?

— I have many favourite places, but the most impressive are: Kyiv, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Mariupol. I’m sure that I love Ukraine.

Do you think we do a lot for promoting our culture in Europe?

— Unfortunately not. You have a lot of talented people in all spheres of culture, but they are not known in Europe. And we will as much as possible contribute to the promotion of Ukrainian culture in Europe.

At the end of last year you were recognized as the most influential foreign diplomat in Ukraine. What do you think about this?

— I believe that this fact testifies the importance of the EU for Ukraine, majority of the Ukrainians has been saying for the last 15 years that they want to join the EU. And most Ukrainian political elites say the same thing. That’s why the EU means a lot to you. And that is really good...

One of the main factors in the country’s full development and promotion of its interests abroad is the diplomatic service headed by the Ambassador, a plenipotentiary representative of the country. His area of responsibility includes contacts that cover politics and economy. At the same time, the Ambassadors’ wives are engaged in more delicate matters, in particular cultural cooperation and the promotion of their country through public and cultural diplomacy.

Today, at the rubric “Lady International Club”, we are talking about the activities of Iryna Reznik, the wife of the Ukrainian diplomat, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine, Honoured Economist of Ukraine Mykhailo Reznik.

Mrs. Reznik, please tell me what functions the Ambassador’s wife abroad?

The wife is the most important assistant for the Ambassador. One of the main tasks is to represent the state and to take care of its image. Exactly this point covers the representative functions of the ambassador’s wife at the highest level of society of the host country. The microclimate amidst the Embassy staff largely depends on the Ambassador’s wife. She is also helping to the families of young diplomats in arranging under difficult conditions during their activity abroad.

On behalf of the Ambassador, the meetings of the entire staff of the institution are held periodically, as well as meetings on specific issues with the families and wives of diplomats. These meetings include the protocol measures within the framework of the functions of the Embassy as well as the meetings in case of the emergence of the complicated issues caused by events in our countries the diplomats work at. As an example, I can take the situation in the People’s Republic of China during an outbreak of SARS, which has led to the sudden death of more than 5,000 Chinese citizens. Thanks to our friends in Ukraine, we have received medicines and remedies that increase the immunity of the humans that had been used by all employees and their families. After exacerbating this situation, I helped with the voluntary evacuation of the wives of diplomats with young children.

For example, there was a situation when the wife of a young diplomat broke her leg, and in her family there was a little child — therefore I organized an alternation of women of our institution so that the diplomat had the opportunity to fulfill her duties. Also, I trained staff members with the rules of diplomatic etiquette. I brought from Kyiv brocade fabrics for tailoring suits for children that participated in the play dedicated to the day of St. Nicholas.

We can mention a lot of events that can be recorded in advance as a function of the Ambassador’s wife. But, being on the «front line», sometimes I performed the function of a psychologist and a doctor, and a teacher and a mentor.

The wives of many Ambassadors arrange artistic events and promote the national cultural traditions. Do you have experience in organizing of such events?

Of course, this is also one of the most important aspects of the mission of the diplomats’ wives. While being in another country, we must demonstrate a high standard of Ukraine in educational and cultural spheres. #8, January–February 2018

LADY INTERNATIONAL СLUB Directly the activity of the Ambassadors’ wives in disseminating of the knowledge about the cultural, linguistic and historical values of our state largely depends upon the presence of Ukrainian communities in some countries.

Ukrainian American Women Union, etc.). Almost every week, cultural events were realized directly at the Embassy directly and at the exhibitions in different US cities (Chicago, Houston, New York, Philadelphia, etc.).

I had to work with my husband in countries where our compatriots are not numerous or absent, even (like in South Korea, Mongolia, China, Caribbean island countries). Also, we had two missions to the United States, where there is a powerful and cohesive Ukrainian community.

For example, as part of the first Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Seoul, I began my efforts to assist to the Ambassador in establishing of a Korean-Ukrainian Friendship Association.

With the Ambassador we paid a lot of attention for active cooperation with the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America together with Mr. Savkiv, especially on the issue of coverage of the tragedy of the Ukrainian people during the Holodomor of 1932–1933.

This tragedy is a very painful memory for many Ukrainian émigrés and also for the family of my husband.

For a short time, its activities have been actively pursued, with the assistance of the embassy, numerous cultural and artistic events (exhibitions of works by Ukrainian artists, sculptors, designers and so on).

Such an active activity of the association within the embassy attracted the interest of the intellectuals and artists of the Republic of Korea and thus had been contributed into further cultural cooperation and into the organization of joint projects.

Thanks to the assistance of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, just a year after of our stay in the Republic of Korea, the first Ukrainian cultural centre was opened. Now annually, with the participation of this centre, the creative teams of the Republic of Korea take part in the celebration of the day of Kyiv, and Ukrainian artists have the opportunity to demonstrate the best of what is in Ukraine that we are proud of.

There were also many cultural events in the People’s Republic of China. With the assistance of the Government of Ukraine and then Minister of Culture, Mr. Yuriy Bogutsky, we managed to organize the first bilateral, large-scale project of the international level, “The Week of Ukrainian Culture” that consisted of the exhibitions of Ukrainian artists in the best galleries of Beijing, including the works by Mrs. Yablonska, (and she is well-known in China, by the way), the huge exhibition of Ukrainian tapestries, and two gala concerts in Beijing and Shanghai with the participation of the best performers of the National Opera of Ukraine.

It was easier, but also much more interesting, to work in this direction in Washington. For six years, friendly relations have been established with Ukrainian-American non-governmental organizations (the Washington Group, The

To sum up, I can say that the wife of a diplomat should be the cultural ambassador of our state beyond its borders.

What activities did you realize during your stay in the United States?

The position of the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States is the most responsible and most important post for our state. Therefore, first and foremost, I participated at the work of powerful women’s organizations that are based in Washington DC and belong to various clubs. In the field of my activity there was cooperation with nine clubs and I was engaged on a permanent basis into their activity. One of the most influential clubs was named as “The Club of Congressmen Wives”. Thanks to the contacts and friendly relations within this public organization, I was able to assist for our Ukrainian delegations to visit Washington as well as to realize certain events.

Also I enjoyed working with another organization — “The Club of Happy Women”.

Therefore, after completing the long-term business trip of my husband, I began to inspire the creation of such public organization as «The Lady International Club» in Ukraine.

You have started and you have headed this club in Ukraine. What was the main mission of the “Lady International Club”?

Having the experience of cooperation with such clubs abroad, I decided to open Women’s «Lady International Club on Arrival in Ukraine».

Its goal is to popularize Ukraine abroad, that is, to introduce the wives of foreign ambassadors with our culture, with the outstanding personalities and talented people in different spheres of activity.

LADY INTERNATIONAL СLUB

Being proud of our country, I arranged meetings at the club with interesting and extraordinary people: with famous writers, artists and athletes. One of the brightest ones was the meeting with Vitali Klitschko, who had not yet started his political career at that time.

Among other bright meetings were those ones with opera singer Volodymyr Hryshko, with the well-known designer Diana Dorozhkina, with the Eurovision winner Ruslana Lyzhychko and with many other talented Ukrainians, whom our country can be proud of.

This club unites not only the wives of ambassadors, but also the wives of artists, singers and businessmen... And at every meeting there was something new, interesting and instructive.

Ladies attended with pleasure the club meetings that have been held every month during eight years. Unfortunately, I had to suspend The Club activities, though, when there is a war in your country, it is not a time for entertainment anyway.

But we are going to renovate the meeting of our club this year, approximately in the autumn.

Are the wives of the Ambassadors engaged in charity in the same way as, in particular, the wives of the leaders of the states do?

Sure, they do. While staying abroad and staying in my country, I always try to do charity.

This is an important matter. After all, when you help others — you get pleasant emotions, strengths and inspiration for future new ideas and projects.

Every year, the charity fairs are realized in different countries. At these fairs each country prepares something for sale from its part — either national food or national souvenirs and all the money raised at the fairs are directed to help for those that are in need.

Our «Lady International» Club was also involved in charity. We took care of an orphanage in the town of Ivankiv, in Kyiv region, that is

LADY INTERNATIONAL СLUB located in the Chernobyl zone. There are 46 orphans in it. One American company with my husband’s assistance gave 35 thousand dollars for these orphans.

These funds were used to renovate the building of the orphanage, to buy new furniture, computers and much more.

When the Ambassadors’ wives came to know about this event, they also joined to donations for this orphanage.

We organized excursions and trips to Kyiv for these children; we always gave presents and often visited the orphanage. Every year for St. Nicholas Day we invited artists and brought presents, creating a real holiday for these children. You would see the brightness of their eyes when we came to them.

We also tried to bring children to the cultural events — they were arranged to visit the exhibitions and theatres, because after the orphanage they should be ready for the new life.

I sincerely hope that our help will be useful for them and they will enter the adult life well.

I can give more examples of charity.

While being in the Republic of Korea, with the support of our Korean friends, we managed to arrange the treatment of 60 Ukrainian children from the Chernobyl Zone in Seoul clinics. In the United States, our diplomats collected funds personally for treatment in Boston’s burn centre of the “Ukrainian heroine”, a Ukrainian girl that got terribly burned, saving her younger sister in the fire.

In general, charity is a feature that is common for the Ukrainian people. And as for me, as for many Ukrainian women that are mothers, charity and its convincing testimony is the everyday dedicated activities of our volunteers and the joint support of Ukrainian citizens that help our defenders in the East.

We live in the best country in the world — in Ukraine — with a beautiful, kind and hard-working people. From my family and from me personally, let me sincerely wish a new year of peace, prosperity and harmony for every Ukrainian family. #8, January–February 2018

Tell us, please, why, after all, had you chosen Kyiv for the career?

— When I was still in college, we went to a competition named after Serge Lifar, and this was my first encounter with this city and this theatre. It so happened that I liked this city and this theatre. It was twelve years ago. The theatre at that time was very strong. There were great soloists. I looked at all these, and I wanted to become a part of this theatre.

And you know what, in fact, I was fortunate in? Many people from Ukraine, involved in ballet, are going to the West — to perform in theatres or to teach. In our specialized school, a woman from Ukraine, Liubov Danchenko, taught as well. She used to dance at the Kyiv theatre. Thanks to her assistance I got in this theatre for internship after the competition. Besides, I am married to the Ukrainian. Her name is Natalia.

You perform a lot in Kyiv and, of course, you are often at home in the Czech Republic.

What is the main difference between the Kyiv and Prague audience, between Kyiv and Prague fans of ballet art?

— The audience is wonderful in both countries.

After all, we — the Ukrainians and the Czechs — are Slavs, and therefore we have much in common.

I would say, instead, there is a difference between ballet schools in our countries. I have also noticed the difference between the theatres in Kyiv and Prague. #8, January–February 2018

Mainly, the difference is in their repertoires.

There were many contemporary performances in Prague, a lot of modern dance, a lot of things related to avant-garde and modernist style — there was extremely little of the classical one.

Instead, the repertoire of the Kyiv theatre reposed on the classical dance at that time. I always wanted to dance the classical repertoire.

That is why I chose Kyiv.

One of your best roles is the role of Woland at the performance “Master and Margarita”. You have repeatedly said that this role inspires you, but agree, this role is not simple.

Playing the devil is, let’s say, a remarkable event in life of an actor.

— However much strange it will sound, but such negative parties, when you are playing not a prince charming, but a representative of dark evil forces, are given to the actor much easier. And this role was very meaningful and interesting. Of course, I read the book of Bulgakov, and in this performance everything that was present in the book, was shown. The performance is very logical, it can be understood. As for Woland’s party itself, I was preparing it carefully, together with the producer of play. The producer of play, David

Avdysh, came to us. I was helped to work on this party by my Kyiv pedagogue Mykola Priadchenko, as well. It may be said that we carefully analyzed and not less carefully prepared every movement, every gesture.

Do you see your future career exclusively in Ukraine? Or do you plan to perform in the West, too?

— As for my future plans, I can say with certainty that I will keep my loyalty to our theatre, as I have been working here for twelve years, that is, I almost have the twelfth season here. This is very and very much for an artist.

But, of course, I really like giving performance on a tour. Thanks God, I have some offers, so I can go on tour and try myself in other performances.

Here, in Kyiv, I have a stable repertoire. I have already participated in all the performances, so it is very interesting to go abroad, to dance and to develop creatively there as well.

What would you like to wish the Ukrainians?

— I would like to wish peace, prosperity and happiness. I live and work here in Ukraine. I love this country. Look after it...

On December 13, 2017, the International Charitable Evening “Parade of Nations” was held in honour of the 100th anniversary of Ukrainian diplomacy and the Day of Diplomat of Ukraine.

The event on this scale, involving more than 20 countries, was held in independent Ukraine for the first time.

The purpose of the event is to unite nations for the sake of peace and prosperity through knowledge of culture, history and traditions of different countries. Each country had the opportunity to demonstrate a national flag, a national dress and performance, thanks to which the participants had the opportunity to plunge into the traditions of different countries.

The charitable event was attended by the representatives of the domestic political and diplomatic elite, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in our state, representatives of business and art circles.

The event was attended by 21 countries, namely: Azerbaijan, Argentina, Greece, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Cyprus, China, Lithuania, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Palestine, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Japan and Ukraine.

Despite, in fact, conducting the festivities on the occasion of the Ukrainian diplomatic service establishment, the charitable evening followed

several goals, in particular: to introduce the Ukrainians to the culture of other states, and foreigners — to the culture of Ukraine, and also raise funds for those in need of assistance.

The event was started by People’s Artist of Ukraine Oksana Bilozir, who performed the song “Ukrainian Woman”, creating a charming and festive atmosphere in the hall.

Then Anna Avramenko, the Editor-in-Chief of our publication, made a welcome speech and congratulated all in attendance on the centenary of the domestic foreign policy service and emphasized that such charity events take place in many countries of the world and that by

— We were inspired to conduct this event by Iryna Rafailivna Reznyk.

She told us how similar “Parades of Nations” are being held in other countries. We decided Ukraine should join such a beautiful tradition. Today we are holding the “Parade of Nations” for the first time in independent Ukraine and we hope this project will become a nice tradition and more than a hundred countries will take part in the “Parade of Nations” next year.

The congratulatory speeches on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Ukrainian diplomacy and the Day of Diplomat of Ukraine were made

by Volodymyr Ohryzko, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine 2008–2010, and Konstyantyn Hryshchenko, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine 2003–2005, 2010–2012.

In his speech, Mr. Ohryzko thanked the Ukrainian civil society, noting that it is the main stimulus to positive changes in our country. He also reminded that this year not only Ukraine celebrates the hundredth anniversary of its diplomatic service, but also Finland celebrates the centenary of its independence:

— If a hundred years ago, the Ukrainians had not been separated, then we could have celebrated one hundred years of our independence in 2017.

However, the ex-Minister noted that we should not regret, emphasizing that Ukraine is confidently wending the way of European integration, despite economic problems and the war.

Konstyantyn Hryshchenko noted:

— Diplomacy, as the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, said, is on an equal footing with the armed forces, while defending Ukraine. #8, January–February 2018

Also, Mr. Hryshchenko emphasized that for a hundred years the Ukrainian diplomacy has undertaken a difficult but glorious way and is currently defending the interests of Ukraine on the international arena in a decent and effective way.

After these important and touching speeches, the show presenter of the “Parade of Nations”, the famous Ukrainian actor and showman, Yurii Horbunov invited the representatives of each country to the stage in the alphabetical order.

Each country revealed its culture, history and traditions, displaying a national flag, a national dress, video presentations about their countries and performances. All these reminded us of how diverse and wonderful the world in which we all live is.

The “Parade of Nations” was started by so interesting and not alien to us country — Argentina, since more than one percent of the inhabitants of this distant land have a Ukrainian origin. Argentina was represented by the “Two Violins Band” and the young, but already well-

known in the world. Ukrainian violinist, Ilya Bondarenko. Together, they performed the most famous Argentinean tango “El Chokala”, which as fully as possible transmits simultaneously a gloomy and passionate Argentinean soul.

The next participant of our “Parade” was an ancient and always young Greece. It is the homeland of the modern theatre and the system of governance, which we call democracy, which, in turn, is considered the best in the world. Greece presented one of the most famous ensembles “Zorbas”, which had won its supporters’ hearts not only in its own country, Greece, but also in Ukraine and European countries. The Greek dance ensemble “Zorbas” performed the fervent folk dance “Maleviziotis”, thanks to which everybody seemed to feel the splash of the waves of the Aegean Sea. The next country was Georgia, our longtime friend and proven ally. The ensemble of folk dances at the Georgian Diaspora “Iberieli” presented the dance “Mtiruli”, which allowed all the guests to feel the rigorous and courageous rhythm in which the heart of this beautiful ancient land is beating.

EVENTS present on the coast of the warm ocean for a while.

The next participant of the “Parade of Nations”, Kazakhstan, represented its culture with a magnificent performance carried out on the national instrument — dombra. Musician Azbergen RasulKonil Tolkini, performing the “Kyu” melody, brilliantly conveyed the temper of his nation — slow, prudent and wise.

Cyprus represented its country with a video, thanks to which the beauty and luxury of this paradisiacal island were demonstrated.

The People’s Republic of China, the heir to a large, ancient and complex culture, reminded the audience of their imperial past, which should not astonish — because the PRC is gradually but persistently trying to occupy leading positions in all sectors in the modern world.

The “Hua Zhi Yun” band performed the “Tai Dzi” dance, translated into Ukrainian as “Vialo” (a fan), which reminded us of the exquisite culture of the Chinese Imperial Court.

Korea, a country of ancient traditions and fastidious mythology, reminded us that, in addition to the reverence of antiquity, it is also open for modernity. This is evidenced by the fact that the inhabitants of this country perceive the culture of other peoples happily and warmly.

The musical band “Level Up” superbly performed the cover for the composition “Red Velvet — Red Flavor”.

India gladdened those present with the treasures of its rich and bright culture. The folk band “School of Oriental Dance” Silky Way” reminded us of the heat and beauty of India, presenting us a dance in a Bollywood style “Let’s Dance”.

Indonesia, the largest island state in the world, surprised all the participants of the “Parade of Nations” with its exotic Indonesian dance “Sintren Dance”, which was performed by the Dance Synopsis ensemble. Such astonishing plasticity and sincere exoticism carried those

Lithuania, a longtime and sincere ally of Ukraine, gladdened those present with a reminder of their ancient roots. Lithuanian folk ensemble “Sesules”, which in translation means “The Sisters”, performed a dance called “Let’s Go Sisters”. In this calm dance, the noble and leisurely nature of the whole Lithuanian people seemed to be reflected.

The United Arab Emirates impressed by their mood video, which showed the history of this amazing country, which, through the wise use of subsoil resources, turned the desert into a real paradise.

EVENTS

Another Arab country — Palestine — reminded of its remarkable historical and cultural heritage, showing in the mood video not only picturesque landscapes, but also those architectural monuments and cities that were mentioned in biblical plots.

Our south-western neighbour Romania, with which we have the Carpathians and the Black Sea in common, gladdened us with a mood video, which literally dazzled with the glorious beauty of the Romanian mountains.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia — the “country of two mosques,” the country of two sacred cities for all the Muslims — presented a mood video, in which, besides these sacred places, the picturesque landscapes of the Arabian Peninsula were shown.

Turkey, its culture and the vulnerable nature were represented by the students of the international school “Meridian” who performed the Turkish song, the name of which can be translated into Ukrainian as the “Song of Respect”.

This melodic creation reminded of Turkey being not only a country of the beaches and memories of the brilliant days of the Ottoman Empire, but also a country of an ancient and wise tradition.

Uzbekistan, in its mood video, acquainted not only with landscapes, mountains and rivers in arid plains, but also with a centuries-old cultural heritage, in particular with the old and always young Samarkand.

represented all the beauty of its untouched nature and its modern cities, which have already reached the twenty-second century of high technology.

Ukraine was represented by several performances at the “Parade of Nations”, in particular: •

demonstration of Ukrainian national clothes

from the ethno-gallery “Heritage”. Ancient vyshyvankas (embroidered shirts) from the collection of the famous patron and collector, Taras Demkura, were presented by “Miss Ukraine-2017”, Polina Tkachenko, and the models from the Lotos Agency; •

the “Freedom Music Band” performed the song of Haitana’s “Children of the Light”;

Susanna Chakhoian, a well-known Ukrainian opera singer, who actively promotes Ukrainian culture in Austria and other European countries, performed the song “LE VOIX”;

Lots for the auction were provided by our Ukrainian manufacturers and designers, namely:

Folklore and Ethnographic Ensemble “Vesnianka” named after Volodymyr Nerodenko presented in its performance the Transcarpathian wedding, thanks to which all the participants had the opportunity to plunge into a unique, colourful and charming atmosphere of authentic Ukrainian traditions.

The final performance from Ukraine was the children’s choir of the producer centre “Paradiz”.

Children that are the finalists and winners of popular TV projects and international contests “Voice. Children”, “JUNIOR EUROVISION”, “SANREMO JUNIOR”, “Ukraine Has Talent“, performed the song “I Will Draw My Dream”.

a pair of wrist watches “KLEYNOD”, from the exclusive series “Kleynods of Independence of Ukraine” from the Kyiv Watch Factory;

an exclusive handmade black table of black walnut shear cut and an elegant vase with a stand made of a round slab of nutwood were provided by the Living Edge carpentry shop;

tailoring of an exclusive men’s suit from Ukrainian tailor Roman Demidov.

The money that had been raised at the auction funds were directed to purchase the necessary things for children of the Shchastia boarding school of the I-II levels in the city of Shchastia in Luhansk Region, which is taken care of by the Charitable Fund “Dar”.

In the final of this performance, all the participants of the concert came out on the stage with the flags of their states, demonstrating the TRUE INTERNATIONAL PARADE OF NATIONS.

The event made a great impression on the representatives of the diplomatic corps, the representatives of domestic diplomacy, business and artistic circles, and we hope and have confidence that it will turn into a good tradition.

A charitable auction was held within the event.

On February 8, 2018, the conference “Generation of Changes: the Results of Twenty-Five-Year Cooperation between Ukraine and the USA with the Participation of IVLP Graduates” will be held in the hall of the Kyiv City State Administration. It will be attended by over 200 leading politicians, statesmen, diplomats, businessmen, journalists and analysts of the country.

The official friendship between Ukraine and the United States lasts for more than a quarter of a century. During this time, not only the close friendly relationship between the two states were established, but the whole generation of young leaders of Ukraine, who shared knowledge and best practices with Western partners, appeared.

The “Generation of Changes” conference is being held for the purpose of consolidating the leaders of public opinion who, in different years of independence, became graduates of the American Governmental International Visitor Leadership Program - the IVLP. As well as strengthening business contacts, establishing a productive dialogue on global challenges and the internal situation in Ukraine, a retrospective analysis of Ukraine’s reforms in the framework of 25 years of cooperation between the two states and discussing further economic and social changes.

Key topics of panel discussions: reforms of economic development, entrepreneurship and public administration; reforms of education, science and culture; reforms of the human rights sector and human rights.

Among the invited guests are: President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, City Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko, heads of diplomatic missions, embassies, the graduates of the American Governmental International Visitor Leadership Program, among them: First President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, Second President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Liliya Hrynevych, People’s Deputies of Ukraine.

The purpose of the event is to unite nations and states with the help of sports. To create the informal space for free communication, to strengthen and to promote the positive image of Ukraine in the world.

Golf is a holiday not only for the players — the guests of the event will have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful landscapes of the golf club, they will enjoy great experiences from the training of the game with the club’s professionals, they will enjoy the freedom of communication, delicious food and beverages and will have great time and relax in the fresh air.

Organizer:

Golf is a 21st century bonus sport. The organization of the “DIPLOMATIC GOLF CUP” tournament gives the opportunity to create a unique environment for fruitful communication between representatives of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Ukrainian Diaspora from different countries, representatives of political and business communities aimed for further strengthening and promotion of the positive image of Ukraine in the world.

The tournament will be attended by the international and Ukrainian diplomatic corps, representatives of the state bodies, representatives of the business elite, representatives of the Ukrainian Diaspora from different countries.

The tournament will be distributed to the game for professionals and the game for non-professional players.

The tournament for professionals will last from 9:00 to 15:00 on the route to the 18-hole championship golf course.

The tournament for non-professional players will last from 13:00 to 15:00. In this tournament, the players will be divided into groups of 15 people, headed by professional trainers.

The winners of the competition will be awarded at 16:00.
