 MAXIMISE FARM YIELDS

To increase crop yields our FarmMax Mulcher Air Seeder Combo is a solid choice. Those who mulch kikuyu in Autumn are seeing higher yielding grasses arrive by Spring. One of the unsung heroes for increasing milk production is the humble Peecon Feed Mixer Wagon. Peecon’s tub has a patented anti-belching shape renowned for reducing mixing time by half. Its superior performance means a lift in productivity by about 10% and costs are reduced because cheaper feeds can be used. Cell farming allows paddocks to be divided within minutes and is ideal for creating smaller grazing blocks or fencing off waterways. Our cell farming products are known to increase productivity by up to 60% because it allows for smarter grazing and maximum yield from pasture e.g., 1-day feed cycles. KDT Rear Belt Driven Mowers

KDT is the most frequently purchased from the SaMASZ range and used by thousands of customers around the world. Made of the best quality materials they are pefect for the most demanding mowing.

Mechanical safety breakaway device (with hardened inserts) In case of hitting an obstacle the breakaway device is pulled out of its housing and the mower folds back giving time to stop working and evade the obstacle. The force, at which, the device will operate is regulated by means of a coil spring. Support mechanism when taking turns on headlands. With this system the operator does not have to pay attention to

the height to which he lifts the machine. It also saves time! Swath guides as a standard equipment

The swath guides perfectly separate the swath from the field. They protect the forage against contamination.

Transport and operation

Lighter and stronger suspension as well as hydraulics facilitate manouvering and transport. Switching from working to transport position by means of hydraulic cylinder.

KT Rear Direct Drive Mowers

High operating speed, modern design, quick knife replacement system, central spring or hydropneumatic suspension, 3 transport positions - these are only a few advantages of KT disc mowers!

Hydraulic safety breakaway device

Central suspension system is integrated with hydraulic safety breakaway device, which protects the mower against hitting immovable obstacles. In the event of hitting an immovable obstacle the cutterbar folds back and at the same time rises about 50 cm (1’8’’). Afterwards, the cutterbar automatically comes back to its working position.

Central suspension

Main advantages of central suspension are even balance, perfect ground following and wide range of inclination (up to 24 degrees) enabling operation on uneven grounds and in every conditions. Ground pressure can be relieved by means of springs or hydraulic pressure relief system (hydropneumatic suspension).

Transport

A big advantage of KT disc mowers, is the ability to transport the machines in three different positions: A-upwards (at the side of the tractor), B-upwards (behind the tractor) and C-horizontally (behind the tractor). It is possible to drive through narrow roads in the woods or drive under a viaduct or underpass.

Transport

Another strong point of the XT 390 is its transportability in an inclined position, ensuring safer driving and making for easier manoeuvrability on both public roads and narrow dirt roads. A great advantage of this machine is its height, which does not exceed 4 m (13’2’’), so, according to the traffic law, it does not require any additional markings or permits. In addition, the XT 390 in the standard version allows the machine to be parked in a stable transport position on four feet.

Hydro-pneumatic suspension

With hydro-pneumatic suspension, the operator can use the tractor’s hydraulics to quickly adjust the pressure of the cutting bar on the ground, so that, regardless of the terrain, the pressure on the ground is always the same. A large and easily visible pressure gauge informs the operator of the pressure in the hydro-pneumatic system. Another advantage is the ability to adjust the pressure without leaving the tractor cab.

KDF front disc mowers could be a perfect alternative for rear mowers due to good visibility during operation and transport. Extended frame and coil springs of long travel enable very good ground following and proper ground pressure. Can be successfully combined, with rear unit, making a very economic set.

Tine or roller conditioner

Easy to equip with either tine conditioner or rollers. Also available are conditioner tines made of plastic. Particularly important when unit’s weight is of great importance. Weight reduction positively affects its working performance on soft and wet fields.

Our design of trailed mowers with central drawbar allows working on both sides of the tractor. It helps to save time when taking turns. KDC mowers can be additionally equipped with tine or roller conditioner and belt conveyor for swath transportation.

Mowing at both sides

Long and centre-mounted drawbar is ideal for up and down operation. Changing sides is easy and convenient from the tractor seat. Singleacting cylinders swing the mower over to the other side in up and down operation and swing it centrally behind the tractor in transport position. The centre-mounted pivoting drawbar allows mowing up and down the field in either direction.

Wide tyres

Mower is equipped with wide tyres ensuring excellent adhesion and stability. As the machine operates on soft grounds, slopes or water-soaked fields it runs on tyres that provide

light treading to protect the turf. Mounted at a 3° angle, the wheels effectively roll, in direction of travel without pulling to the side.

Belt conveyor merger

The merger conveys the material onto the existing windrow or next to it to form a double windrow which can be easily picked up by the following harvester. Feeding the crop onto the windrow without the material ever touching ground, the belt conveyor ensures clean forage without losses. Therefore save your time, increase your efficiency, reduce the number of passes and the risk of soil compaction.

MegaCUT

Belt conveyor

Strong beams suspend the belt conveyor for ultimate stability when operating in heavy crops, uneven fields and on slopes. They swing the unit up and out of the way when the mower is producing single or wide windrows. Single-acting cylinder raises the belt conveyor as a reversing valve shuts it off and back on when the unit goes down, back into work.

Belt conveyors are driven by their own hydraulic unit (hydraulic pump, radiator and two hydromotors). Turning the conveyors on is done via an electronic control panel mounted in tractor’s cabin. Mergers work independently with variable speed rates.

Belt conveyor is equipped with roller cleaning mechanism, to which the dirt can be easily removed without taking off the belt. In order to reduce dirt gathering and protect the belt, new types of cleaning brushes were applied.

Belt conveyor speed can be adjusted via electronic control panel (see p. 31) Ranging from 0 ÷ max.

Maximum windrow width of 2,8 m (9’ 1/5”) may be reached when cutting low and medium grass. When cutting heavy grass, conveyor speed has to be increased due to the wieght of the material. This automatically narrows windrow presentation. There is a possibility to move the conveyors left or right along the mowers frame +- 200 mm (7 7/8’’). However, an operation with the conveyors moved to an extreme point may cause unbalancing of the set. In that case of having 3,5 m (11’ 2/5’’) wide swath SaMASZ can manufacture shorter conveyors.

Manufacturer’s advice

Close distance between wheels and tines ensures clean swath regardless of the ground unevenness. This enables perfect ground following, owing to which the fodder is not soiled. There is a possiblity to set the wheel angle, which helps when taking turns on uneven fields. Setting the angle from steep to shallow is easy to carry out, on the brackets that hold the wheel arms (pin and hole system). Better results when working along boundaries can be achieved by turning the wheels left or right respectively.

Two dimmensional ground following

Each rotor uses three tandem chassis. Longitudinal and transverse ground following mechanism ensures perfect ground following and results in very clean fodder or hay harvest. Other advantages of Z2-780 rakes are the same as for Z 410 rakes.

Z2-780 rakes is a bright exception in the class of rakes with widths up to 7.6 m (25’) as compared with other manufacturers. Main features are not only transverse and longitudinal ground following, but also a triple tandem running gear per single rotor.

Northland farmer Mike Smales is a fan of the FarmMax Air Seeder. He bought one in 2021 and finds it excellent for sowing over and ripping out kikuyu, along with levelling out his paddocks. He can spray out and seed in very quickly.

Many farms are kikuyu dominant and supress the growth of higher-quality grass, but with a well-managed mulching and air-seeding programme, time savings on labour and reduced fuel costs can be achieved.

Mike’s farm is in Maungaturoto, Northland, with year-round milking of about 500 dairy cows along with a beef fattening operation across 400+ hectares. He first discovered the FarmMax Air Seeder from his neighbour who had made a similar investment.

In the past, Mike had tried seeding with various methods including over-sowing - spin on grass seed and then mulch behind it. While it worked, it was a laborious two-pass operation, and he was after something quicker and more effective for seed contact and grass growth.

Based on the labour savings Mike could achieve with a FarmMax Air Seeder / Mulcher Combo, FarmShop calculated his investment would have a payback of less than two seasons.

The FarmMax Air Seeder is a simple and accurate pneumatic seeder to meter and spread small seeds. It works very well and can mount onto a wide range of tractors. Customers appreciate the simplicity (and savings) of mulching old grass and reproducing new grass in just one pass, making it possible to re-graze cattle in the same paddock about three times faster, as opposed to traditional methods.

Mike found dealing with FarmShop great because they were willing to provide on-farm demos, show how to calibrate machinery and get the best from it – he said the team know their products well.

The implement will also successfully fit to various machines, from 3m power harrows up to 8m grass tine harrows, rigid and folding machines. It leaves no striping or lines in paddocks and the results are very even.

There are two control options, the Basic Line Control and Total Control with a GPS speed sensor for ground speed.

The FarmMax Air Seeder can sow fine seeds such as mustard and turnip from a rate as low as 1kg / hectare to sowing grass seeds at 80 kg per hectare. Green cover crops are a very popular low-cost establishment and the GPS based model provides the ultimate in accuracy rate for OSR establishment. The application of slug pellets and micro granular fertiliser is also an option.

A 12-volt 80nm motor drives fluted feed rollers through a 6-speed chain and sprocket arrangement, ensuring optimum rotor speed can be achieved. High-capacity twin electric impeller fans ensure a reliable spread (unlike automotive fans used by competitors).

The agitation system ensures no bridging of seeds and can be disengaged when not required.

In another example, the following paddock had been in maze last season and in April 2022 it was seeded and mulched using the FarmMax Air Seeder / Mulcher combo and ready for full-time grazing just 70 days later. The regrowth and quality are compelling.

Our Technician Jeff Cole likes the set up of the FarmMax Air Seeder on a mulcher because it’s very accurate and simple to calibrate, and because it is GPS monitored the flow of seed adjusts to the speed driven (great for maximising farm yields). A calibration tray is supplied with the seeder and stored on the side of the implement when not in use.

“Today we are sowing grass seed. First measure is width of implement, if its 2.5m wide –– as per the sowing rate recommendation from Dairy NZ of 18-20kg per hectare, we’ll set it to 18kg. The next measurement is the speed of which the tractor will be driven e.g. 8km per hour. Once these three measures are inputted, the target is calculated and today it will put down 600grams and the calibration (where we measure the seed coming out of it). The percentage on the screen shows how fast the seed roller is turning – today it’s travelling at 72.2% of its maximum speed. Good to go here!”

The vertical feed mixer Biga Eco Future has been provided with a patented Future mixing tub. This tub provides additional protection against boiling over, particularly in case of dry rations. The Biga Eco Future has, as a standard, been equipped with two hydraulically operated discharge doors. The position and the design of these discharge doors will ensure proper dosing of the rations.

By adjusting the position of the door, using the indicator, you can determine the quantity to be unloaded. The adjustable discharge chutes have been provided with stainless steel for even better conveyance of the feed.

A groundbreaking first for Kumara growers!

Straight off the production line in Italy

FarmShop’s Kumara Gear Day in November was a hit. A strong turnout of about 40 people gathered at Riverview Farms in Dargaville to witness the unveiling of a brand new Calotti Kumara Harvester – a first for New Zealand!

Straight off the production line in Italy and revealed to an enthusiastic audience – local growers had the opportunity to see, touch and provide feedback on this exciting new prototype.

The brain behind the new harvester is a collaboration between FarmShop and European machinery specialist, Carlotti. Conversations began in 2020 based on direct feedback from kumara growers about the ideal machine for local conditions. Unlike American sweet potato, our kumara has more sensitive skin and requires a unique set-up for best results.

Italian made, this harvester has excellent features, including a hydraulic draw bar and skeith wheels, adjustable cutting blade and adjustment valves for independent belt speed.

While it was too early in the season to use the machine, feedback was positive. There were a few modifications to make that FarmShop are now discussing with Carlotti, including adding a toe kick to the standing platform to pick of the belts without bending your back, along with more guards for health and safety reasons.

FarmShop’s key contact from Carlotti is looking forward to visiting NZ at the start of harvest in early February. That’s where the real test will take place!

Concentrated to the Kaipara District, the kumara growing industry is small, so it was wonderful to see a good percentage attend the FarmShop Gear Day. Sharing innovative ways to automate and reduce costs was met with keen interest, especially when cost of production and labour shortages continue to be a challenge.

Other implements were showcased too, including an AVR Top Chopper with 4 row top chop with the extra skeith wheels attached, then the FarmMax Inter-Row Cultivator with custom made kumara moulders, specially designed for the Kumara Capital. Being 5 rows (versus the traditional 2 rows) - growers can expect to get a whole lot more done in a day. Customised moulders can be removed to suit cultivating maize crops, ideal for strip-till crops, keeping weeds away and increasing planting yields.

We take this opportunity to thank Riverview Farms for being fantastic hosts. The harvester is safely parked in their shed and we’re all looking forward to trialling it in the new year. Look out for an invite closer to time.

The name Glutton means overeater, which is exactly what this topper is – it can never get enough! It was developed to kill the potato chaff (haulm). Topping the stems/tops helps prevent infections and viral diseases, reduces the use of chemicals and maximises your harvesting capacity.

The specially shaped flails accurately follow the contours of the ridge. This sophisticated shape also provides enormous suction power for better flailing results.

Twin Rotor

The VariX series creates the perfect seedbed for your sowed crops, where the ridge is not tilled too finely. Labour is reduced because the high capacity allows you to drive faster. Ultimately, this machine will promote faster germination of seed, better water management, uniform growth and maximum yields.

The VariX is the successor to the RF series and is a versatile rotary cultivator suited to all tillage and soil types. The VariX rotary cultivator is equipped with a spring-loaded top cover. It is the perfect flat-paddock cultivator for seedbed preparation for kumara and potatoes, and to form ridges for carrots, or other sowed crops.

The rotor of the VariX 3000 first tills the soil and accumulates enough loose soil to form the ridges in the special ridge formers. The Twin-Rotor then only tills the top layer of the ridge overtop with a depth of 1 to 5cm. The last step is the final shaping of the ridges to the desired dimensions using the hydraulic Super Ridger or a hydraulically driven diabolo roller.

The VariX can also be used as an inter-row rotary cultivator. With the stainless steel pressure units in the ridging hood producing voluminous, firm and uniform ridges.

The spring-loaded top hood above the rotary cultivator tines has no dead corners where soil can collect.
