New roles and a new face at Fendt
Fendt has promoted Sam Treadgold to retail manager for combines and sprayers, covering the south of England and Netherlands. Sam started at Fendt back in 2018 as a sales engineer covering sprayers, balers and grass equipment along with harvest support for combines.
With a gap in the sales engineering team, and to ensure it can support customers and dealers to the maximum level with its updated product portfolio, Fendt welcomed Darren Preedy to the sales engineering team.
Darren will be responsible for wheeled tractors, sprayers, and large square balers, along with o ering Ant Risdon support with combines during the summer harvest period. Darren previously spent six years in a sales
A sound product knowledge is required, although ongoing industry leading training at the CLAAS Academy together with a personal development plan will be put in place.

This gives customers and dealers the required level of expertise and support in this increasingly important area of the business, Fendt says.
Finally, Dan Woodward, sales engineer for Fendt Katana forage harvesters and Fendt Tigo forage wagons, will take over responsibility for Fendt round balers and grass harvest equipment. Dan is well known in the agricultural industry with many years of experience in the grass harvest sector.
Amazone CEO passes away aged 90
Heinz Dreyer, shareholder and longstanding CEO of the Amazone Group, passed away on 17th February 2023 at the age of 90.
Amazone said in a statement: “We have lost an unparalleled inventor from the agricultural machinery sector and a passionate family business owner.”
Dr Dreyer shaped sustainable development in the Amazone Group for many decades, joining company management in 1958 and demonstrating a commitment to research and product development.
He invented the rst ZA threepoint linkage mounted, twin disc fertiliser spreader, which later became the forerunner to almost every other fertiliser spreader used around the world. He set further milestones with the design of seed drills for larger working widths and invented the legendary Amazone D4 tractor-mounted seed drill, which soon enabled the company to become market leader in this eld as well.
Dr Dreyer transferred his management responsibilities to his son Dr Justus Dreyer in 2005 but remained responsible for the Amazone seeding systems and their optimum fertilisation and maintained strong links with universities.
Amazone concluded: “The death of Dr Heinz Dreyer has left a huge hole in our company. The family, the entire management team and all employees will respectfully continue his life’s work.”
Three new appointments at ProCam
Agronomy and crop production rm ProCam has appointed three new sta : Eilish Johnston and Stephen Acott join the Scottish team as trainee agronomists, while James Bromwich joins as trials assistant.
James grew up on his family’s farm in Leicestershire, has a business management degree and completed the MDS graduate scheme. In his new role he will assist with co-ordinating ProCam’s in-house research and knowledge exchange, enabling growers and agronomists to make better decisions to improve cropping performance.
New trainee agronomist
Stephen Acott will be based at ProCam’s Cuminestown depot in Aberdeenshire. Stephen will be working alongside colleagues to provide practical agronomic advice to growers throughout Aberdeenshire.
Eilish Johnston will be based at the Kildary o ce in Easter Ross. She has a degree in agriculture from Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), a BASIS foundation quali cation and is training for her BASIS IPM exams and FACTS quali cation.
Company mourns passing of Andrew Guest
Andrew Guest (Agricultural Engineers) Ltd is very sad to announce the sudden passing of company owner Andrew Guest, aged 63. The company says he passed away in the workshop, whilst doing what he loved, and the entire team send their sincere condolences to Andrew’s wife Wendy, all his family and to his very many good friends.
New UK MD for ADM Agriculture
Jonathan Lane has been named managing director UK for ADM Agriculture Ltd, taking over from Graham Atkinson who is retiring. Jonathan joined ADM in 2006 as an export grain trader. Prior to and after this date, he held various positions in the trading and commercial arena, including working at ADM Erith as a merchandiser.
Jonathan’s current role is head of grain trading, a position he has held since ADM acquired Gleadell and
The Scotch Butchers Club, run by Quality Meat Scotland (QMS), has unveiled four new ambassadors. The club comprises more than 250 independent UK butchers and approved stockists who are committed to sourcing quality assured, traceable and sustainable Scotch beef, lamb and specially selected pork.
Ambassadors raise awareness of the high welfare and sustainability standards of Scotch red meat, the craft inherent to the trade and will play a key role in encouraging the next generation to consider the profession.
The new ambassadors are:
Jordan McCaughan of Hugh Black and Sons, Armadale. Jordan has been working at the shop for almost seven years, completing his level 2 and level 3 butchery modern apprenticeship.
Ryan Gow from John M Munro Butcher, Dingwall.
Ryan started at John Munro’s in January 2019, moving up to the slaughterhouse in 2021 where he started in the products room before learning boning out. Ryan completed his apprenticeship in December 2022 and now predominately works the automated bone puller at the start of the line.
Ewan Saunderson of Saunderson’s Butchers, Tollcross, Edinburgh: Ewan joined his family business a decade ago and has been advancing his butchery and commercial skills to drive the business forward.
Grant Du y ofStrachan’s Craft Butchers, Blantyre: Grant has been in the butchery trade for 13 years, rst as an apprentice at James Ewart’s in Perthshire before moving to Lanarkshire as a fully quali ed butcher. He assumed the position of butchery manager in 2020.
Strutt & Parker has announced
Alex Brearley as its head of natural capital, leading the new natural capital team.
This new team will be responsible for advising and supporting rural estates, farmers and other landowners who are seeking to unlock opportunities arising from the drive to improve the natural and rural environment. It will be working with land managers looking to generate new income streams by delivering ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, enhancing biodiversity, ood mitigation and nutrient neutrality.
Alex joined Strutt & Parker in autumn 2022 as the head of forestry and is experienced in all aspects of woodland creation, including the opportunities for securing carbon nance. He has over 20 years’ specialist experience within the forestry sector and has been a director at Forestry England. formed ADM Agriculture in April 2019.
Alex will be supported by Jonty Rawcli e as the head of natural capital in England, and Joel Paterson as head of natural capital in Scotland. The markets in each region are quite distinct, so this will enable the team to provide tailored advice to clients.
Jonathan is a graduate of Harper Adams with a BSc (Hons) in Agri-Food Marketing and Business and is now studying for a Masters in Strategic Management and Leadership.
