Summer Funshine Carnival
COMMUNITY INVITED TO EVENT BENEFITTING PARKS PROGRAMS
August 9 will be the last day of summer camp; and to celebrate, the Parks & Recreation Department will host a fundraising carnival from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Recreation Center, 14050 Heartside Place. The event will feature carnival games and prizes, drawings, concessions and bounce houses. Admission is free and open to the public, and game tickets will range from 50 cents to $5. The event will benefit the Farmers Branch community by raising funds for Parks facilities and programming. For more information, visit fbreccenter.com.

The vacant lane or space behind your fence is either an alley or an easement. Alleys are public property that are paved and can be accessed by anyone; while easements are private property that is grassy and is restricted to the property owner, City personnel and utility workers.
If you have an easement, it should be maintained along with your front and back yards. In fact, City code requires that homeowners have a gate for easy access to maintain easements.

Christmas Tea Reservations
Christmas Tea is a long-standing holiday tradition at the Historical Park and features live harp music, delectable treats, Christmas decor and, of course, tea. This year, Christmas Tea will be hosted on December 7 and 14, with sittings at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Space is limited for this popular event, and reservations can be made beginning August 12. The cost is $40 per person or $30 for Friends of Farmers Branch Historical Park members. To make a reservation, call 972-406-0184.

Free Waste Disposal (with proof of residency)
During Bulk Pickup Week, August 5-9, the Green Grabber will pick up bulk items such as furniture, large appliances, and other items that cannot be placed in a garbage bag. Visit farmersbranchtx.gov/brushbulky for more information.
Nature Reserve Closure
The overlook at the John F. Burke Nature Preserve will be closed for the foreseeable future due to structural damage caused by excessive rains and riverbank erosion. All other areas are still open, but visitors should not attempt to use the overlook or stand close to the river’s edge.
