NEW PLAYGROUND OPENING DAILY IN JANUARY Join Mayor Terry Lynne and the Farmers Branch City Council for the Joya Playground Grand Opening on Saturday, January 20 at 6 p.m. We will have food trucks, giveaway souvenirs and lots of fun for kids of all ages, as we inaugurate the country’s only glow-in-the-dark park!
FILE NOW TO RUN FOR OFFICE: CITY COUNCIL DISTRICTS 3 & 5 The positions of City Council District 3 and District 5 will be on the May 4 General Election ballot. Candidate packets are now available online and at the City Secretary’s Office, and candidates must file between January 17 and February 16.

The City’s new Joya project is a one-of-a-kind, adaptive playground that promises to become the signature attraction for families in Farmers Branch. It is described as an inclusive play area that is fun during the day and ‘comes alive’ at night. Located in Oran Good Park on the north side of Valley View Lane at Josey Lane, Joya will be free and open to the public each and every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. It has been designed for children of all ages and abilities, featuring a 7,000-square-foot tot playground and an 18,000-square-foot main play area with the following amenities: • A 27-foot sphere with six climbing levels, swings and slides • An obstacle course • A zip line with interactive lights • A spin zone with LED lights • Plenty of seating, including benches, picnic tables and glowing stools • Shade structures • New restrooms For more information about the project, visit playatjoya.com.

DADDY DAUGHTER DANCE
Saturday, February 3 | 6 - 8 p.m. | Community Rec Center | All ages $12 per person for residents; $16 per person for non-residents Join us for a beautiful evening of music, dancing and refreshments. The event will also include a keepsake photo for attendees to remember the night. A VIP package is also available and includes admission for two, a priority-pass for the keepsake photo and a reserved table with a special dessert tray and a take-home centerpiece. Friendly Reminders How to Properly Dispose of Household Hazardous Waste Farmers Branch residents can responsibly dispose of household hazardous waste at the Dallas County Chemical Collection Center, located at 11234 Plano Rd. in Dallas. The center is open Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and every second and fourth Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 214-553-1765.
