National Pickleball Competition coming to Farmers Branch NOVEMBER 5-12 AT BROOKHAVEN COUNTRY CLUB The 2023 Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships is the largest tournament ever hosted for the sport and will feature the country’s best professional and amateur players, as well as “Pickleball Boulevard,” an entertainment hub for shopping, live music, kid-friendly activities and interactive games. The week-long event will also include a Guinness World Record attempt for the longest pickleball match.

This year’s patriotic ceremony will include a keynote address by Dr. Cleveland Brown, Navy Veteran and Assistant Special Agent in Charge for the Secret Services Presidential Security Division.

DIÁ DE LOS MUERTOS (DAY OF THE DEAD) CELEBRATION Thursday, November 2 | 6 - 9 p.m. | Free | All ages Diá de los Muertos is a celebration of life and death. Join us as we welcome back and honor the souls of our deceased loved ones.

The event will feature a beautiful community altar in the Old Church, where attendees can pay respect and celebrate beloved family and friends. Notecards, candles and flowers will be provided to place on the altar. Attendees are also invited to bring duplicate photos or mementos to lay at the community altar to honor their loved ones.

Event activities include musical and dance performances, lotería, kids’ crafts and an air brush artist. Festival food and beverages will be available for purchase.

TASTY TIME OUT: PUMPKIN PATCH, MINIATURE CAKE CLASS Thursday, November 9 | 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. | $60 per person | Ages 16+ Head to the pumpkin patch to learn several cake-decorating techniques using buttercream, sugar and fondant, plus take home a box of assorted miniature pumpkin cakes and recipes!

All supplies and materials will be provided, and we recommend you bring an apron. Each participating adult, age 21 and older with a valid ID, may bring one bottle of wine or two beers to enjoy.

Recycle Holiday GREase Farmers Branch residents can safely and responsibly dispose of used cooking oil and grease at the Citizen Collection Center from November 16 to January 12.

The Citizen Collection Center, 1399 Valley View Ln., is open Thursday-Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Used cooking oil and grease should be dropped off in a sealed plastic container. For more information, visit farmersbranchtx.gov.

Outdoor Ice Rink Closure 2023 Skating Under the Stars Canceled The Children’s Health StarCenter and the City of Farmers Branch regretfully announce that the outdoor ice rink will not open for the 2023 season and that this year’s Skating Under the Stars has been canceled.

The outdoor ice rink, which operates in partnership between the City and the Children’s Health Star Center, will be impacted by the upcoming road construction project on Denton Drive and in the surrounding area. The indoor ice rink will remain open during construction.

Thanksgiving Week Camp

Join us for a public exhibition of 19th-century fencing matches from members of the Victorian Fencing Society, using various fencing weapons to determine a champion. Visitors are invited to cheer for their champions, ask questions and take photos of the events.

CHARCUTERIE BOARD CLASS Thursday, November 16 | 6:30 - 8 p.m. | $40 per person | Ages 16+ Learn the basic skills of creating a beautiful charcuterie board and get hands-on, step-by-step instruction and guidance. The best part: you get to graze on food while you create!

Farmers Branch Rec Center | Ages 6-12 Holiday Craze is a recreational day camp program offered by the Parks and Recreation Department. The program includes on-site activities, entertainment, field trips and much more.

The cost per child for all four days is $104 for residents, $48 with financial aid, and $128 for non-residents.
