A veterans day celebration like no other The 2022 edition of the Farmers Branch Veterans Day Celebration will inspire reverence and awe as the community comes together to show their love and support for its veterans. This year’s event will include a patriotic celebration to remember!

Festivities will include keynote speakers, a patriotic ceremony, live performances, recognition of the Mayor’s Veterans Day Art Challenge winners and...a laser light show that will illuminate the night sky.

The event is free and open to all. It will be held on Friday, November 11 from 4-7 p.m. at Liberty Plaza. Liberty Plaza is located just south of the Children’s Health StarCenter at 12700 N. Stemmons Fwy. For more details visit fbspecialevents.com.

November election dates This year’s November election will be held on Tuesday, November 8. The designated Election Day voting locations for Farmers Branch residents will be at the Manske Library and The Branch Connection. While there are no ballot issues specific to Farmers Branch, voters will be asked to decide on federal, state and county positions.

Farmers Branch residents can early vote at any Dallas County early voting location. For specific early voting days and times, and to view a sample ballot, visit dallascountyvotes.org.

In late summer and early fall, young coyotes leave their dens to explore the wider world. As a result, coyotes may be more visible and can often be spotted in urban areas where they have not previously been seen.

The Farmers Branch Animal Control team wants residents to be watchful for coyotes during the Fall season and to remember the following:

This is a seasonal trend and will abate eventually.

Keeping pets on-leash should eliminate negative encounters.

Feeding wildlife of any kind is strictly prohibited.

The City has several game cameras up to monitor coyote activity in known hot spots.

Residents can report sightings by using the FBTX Connect app.

The only inappropriate coyote behavior is when they approach people or dogs on leashes directly. All other activity is normal.

Household hazardous waste DISPOSAL event Dallas County, in partnership with the Farmers Branch Sustainability & Public Health Department, will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Saturday, November 12, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Farmers Branch Service Center, 13333 Senlac Drive.

Items accepted include chemical products for home use, paint and home repair products, lawn and garden chemicals, aerosols, pool chemicals, craft and hobby supplies, cleaners and polishes, and batteries of all kinds.

All you have to do is go to the above mentioned website and enter your home address to see a calendar view of the pick up days for your address. Residents can also sign up for text alerts so you’ll never miss a pick up day and will be notified of any service disruptions.

Recycle holiday grease into biodiesel Avoid the expense of clogged pipes, don’t pour Thanksgiving grease down the drain.

Fats, oils, and grease (FOG) come from meats, butters and margarine, lard, food scraps, sauces, salad dressings, dairy products, and cooking oil.

When FOG goes down the drain, it hardens and causes sewer pipes to clog. This can lead to a sanitary sewer overflow where raw sewage backs up into your home, lawn, neighborhood, and streets.

Avoid these problems by recycling holiday grease at the Citizen Collection Center. Located at 1300 Valley View Lane, the Citizen Collection Center will accept cooking oils and grease and, in partnership with North Central Texas Council of Governments, will recycle that grease into biodiesel or biogas for energy production.

Residents can drop off holiday grease and cooking oils from November 14 - January 9. The Citizen Collection Center is open Thursday - Saturday from 9 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. (closed 12 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.) For more information visit farmersbranchtx.gov.

parks & recreation projects aim to provide access for all It is the philosophy of the Farmers Branch Parks & Recreation Department that recreation should be available to everyone. With the 2022-23 fiscal year budget recently passed, the Parks and Recreation Department is moving full steam ahead with an exciting slate of projects that will include new or updated amenities for all types of people.

Nature enthusiasts will enjoy the updates underway at the John Burke Nature Preserve. Kids and families will be delighted with the glowing features of Joya at Oran Good Park, which will offer day and nighttime play. Families and health conscious folks will love the sleek and modern second phase updates to the Recreation Center. Teens will play their hearts out at the new outdoor synthetic turf soccer field. And our better than 50 crowd will relish the sophisticated interior renovation of The Branch Connection.

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of King Tut’s tomb at the Manske Library! View a unique exhibit of museum replicas created by local Egyptologist, Rollin Phipps. October 1 - November 30.

Special programs accompanying this exhibit include: The Boy Who Became King Wednesday, November 9 at 4 p.m.

Egyptian Jewelry in the times of King Tut Tuesday, November 15 at 6:30 p.m.
