Public Input Needed During the Comprehensive Plan Study

2022-23 Fiscal year budget process is underway

What should Farmers Branch look like in 20 years? You can help us answer that question by participating in the City’s Comprehensive Plan Study that is currently underway. What exactly is a comprehensive plan? Think of it as a guidebook for the city, looking 20 years into the future. The plan will serve as a navigational tool, to evaluate alternative decisions and determine which are best aligned with the community’s vision. The study process will start with an aspirational vision of what people want the city to be in the future. Then, the Plan will provide a pragmatic, step-by-step action plan intended to accomplish specific outcomes to further the vision. A good comprehensive plan is created by collecting as much public input as possible so that the plan reflects the vision and goals of the people who live and work in the community. With that in mind, city leaders invite all community members to participate during this process. The first public input opportunity was offered during the month of August where community members were invited to an in-person workshop. Residents who were unable to attend the workshop are encouraged to provide input online through the month of August by visiting www.farmersbranchtx.gov/cityvision. The next public input opportunity will be during the month of November. To learn more about the study and how to get involved visit farmersbranchtx.gov/cityvision.

The budget process for the 2022-23 fiscal year is currently underway. The City Manager’s proposed balanced budget was delivered to the City Council on July 29 for their consideration. As part of the budget process, a budget retreat will take place on August 9 and 10 at City Hall where Council and staff will come together to discuss the specifics of the proposed budget. Finalizing the budget process, a public hearing and adoption of the proposed budget is planned for September 20 at City Hall. All budget meetings are recorded and open to the public. The budget retreat will be broadcast at the conclusion of the retreat and the budget hearings and adoption will be broadcast live. Residents can view these meetings on FBTV which can be accessed on the City’s YouTube channel, Spectrum channel 16, and on the City’s website at farmersbranchtx.gov/fbtv. The 2022-23 proposed budget emphasizes investment in public safety, infrastructure and equipment needs to continually improve services to citizens. All interested businesses and residents are encouraged to attend or watch the recorded sessions to learn more about the 2022-23 budget. Residents can view the proposed budget at farmersbranchtx.gov/proposedbudget. For the most current information regarding budget meeting dates and times visit farmersbranchtx. gov.
