city’s bond rating improves to aaa For the first time in the history of Farmers Branch, S&P Global Ratings has issued a AAA bond rating for all of the City’s outstanding debt. This is the highest issuer credit rating assigned by the S&P Global Ratings. S&P has also assigned its ‘AAA’ long-term rating to the City’s anticipated $25.3 million taxable series COs, or certificates of obligation. Why does it matter? Bond Ratings are a method of evaluating relative credit risk and are issued before a city, state, or other public body can issue bonds to finance major Capital projects and neighborhood improvements. High ratings let the City borrow at lower interest rates, potentially saving the City millions of dollars in borrowing costs. S&P’s report on Farmers Branch also says “The outlook is stable. The upgrade reflects our view of the City’s improved income and property wealth metrics, benefiting from its participation in the dynamic Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, as well as its consistently strong budgetary performance and maintenance of very strong available reserves.... the City is in a strong position to meet its debt obligations.” This benchmark has been a milestone goal of the City’s administration, as well as Councils present and past.

Citizens police academy NOW accepting Registrations for fall Session The Farmers Branch Police Department Citizen Police Academy is a 33hour block of instruction designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Police Department’s personnel and policies. The Academy consists of a series of three-hour classes held at the Farmers Branch Justice Center once a week for eleven consecutive weeks on Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. The instruction is comprehensive and covers such diverse topics as training, communications, patrol, criminal investigations, crime scene search, crime prevention, and many more. The Academy is free and open to anyone who lives or works in Farmers Branch and is 18 years and older. The next session will begin September 1 and registrations will be accepted until the class is full. Register online at farmersbranchtx. gov/cpa
save the date for the hispanic heritage Celebration viva! Farmers Branch September is National Hispanic Heritage month and what better way to celebrate than Viva Farmers Branch! Scheduled for Saturday, September 24, at the Farmers Branch Historical Park, The Farmers Branch community is invited to celebrate the culture of Hispanic and Latino communities with live music from Lara Latin and Bidi Bidi Banda. tickets for Popular Christmas teas on sale august 8 The Farmers Branch Christmas Teas are a long standing Historical Park holiday tradition. Make a special tradition with friends and family and join us for an afternoon of live harp music, delectable treats, Christmas decor, and of course, tea. Reservations begin Monday, August 8. The Teas will be held on Saturday, December 3 & 10. Tea times are 1 p.m. & 3:30 p.m. Tickets are required and are $40 per person and $30 for Friends of Farmers Branch Historical Park members.
