Farmers Branch & the dallas Stars partner to propose a multi-sports Complex more than just books The City has recently partnered with the Dallas Stars to create a proposal to build a multi-sports complex in Farmers Branch near the current StarsCenter on Stemmons Freeway. The proposed state-of-the-art facility would be operated by the Dallas Stars and available for use by local and regional sports teams. The project would cost an estimated $20 million and would be funded by City debt paid for by the Dallas Stars. If approved, City officials expect the project could break ground in fall of 2022.
In addition to a wealth of books, the Farmers Branch Mankse Library has recently added several amenities that set it apart from its peers. Since its recent renovation, the City has strategically added new attractions not typically seen in Libraries including a new pickle ball court, a bee hive observation, a new Innovation Zone area and the much anticipated book art sculpture by worldrenowned artist Mike Stilkey. With these new amenities City officials hope to entice residents who haven’t frequented the Library in recent years while also offering loyal patrons new resources. Book Art Sculpture The one-of-a-kind book sculpture is three panels with one more than 20 feet tall and made out of seven thousand old and used books secured to the wall surrounding the library’s elevator. Bee Hive Observation Installed in the Children’s section, visitors are able to safely view through plexiglass the amazing hive building work of over 5,000 bees. Pickle Ball Court Expected to be open by early June, the Library Pickle Ball Court is located outdoors on the west side of the library. Innovation Zone This collaborative area is dedicated space for makers and creators. STEM kits, sewing machines and Gardening kits are available for check-out for Farmers Branch residents.
